Ordered a custom red velvet birthday cake and it was gorgeous and large. I was only really disappointed because it didn't taste like red velvet at all and looked pale red on the inside. The good: When they have what you want available in store to purchase, it's generally excellent. They will bake almost anything to order even in small quantities including gluten-free bread. The frustrating: Because they bake only small quantities for walk-in purchase, you need to get there first thing in the morning and even that is not reliable. If they have too many advance orders, much of the in store bakery goods aren't available. You also never know how long it will take for an advance order because if they receive too many, they can be quite delayed for new orders. If you have zero expectations when you walk into the store regarding product availability or if you call well in advance for orders, you will be happy. Additionally, if there is a problem with something that you ordered, my experience has been the response is simply, oh I'm sorry and no offer of recompense. So finally, now that I understand what to expect in terms of consistency and reliability, I should be quite happy moving forward. read more

I really like this lovely & quality bakery. I found this place on Yelp & was pleased to know how close it was to my Airbnb house! My FAVORITE desserts were lemon delight cake & chocolate chip brownie. During a stressful trip for a family member's medical/surgical journey, I needed something sweet to soothe my emotional distress (this was after I prayed multiple times; meditated with Buddhist mantra, chatted with close friends, and read a self-help book that a gf brought me, etc.). They also have a wonderful breakfast and lunch menu and seating area that makes it perfect to meet up with friends for some dessert and coffee. I looked trough all the reviews for different bakeries and wanted to try this one for a birthday cake. Online it said 48 hour notice for signature cakes, so I went up there 4 days prior to needed date, and was told we're booked 2 weeks out ( they should mention that online, 48 hours, unless we're booked). A friend and I stumbled upon Millstone Bakery since it is near a yoga studio we've been visiting. Overall, the experience was okay. The staff seemed a little distracted and were a little slow for something that seems like it should be a "grab and go" type eatery. I ordered an iced coffee, but they brought me a hot coffee. They corrected this issue, so not a big deal. I wanted something light since I had another workout class after lunch, so I had a soup in mind. They had "soup of the day" on their menu as well as soup combos, but no soups were available at 11 on a Saturday. My friend ordered and paid for something, then afterwards they came by to tell her they didn't have it - so she had to pick something else on the fly. Maybe it was just an off day for them, but all of these small things added up and lowered the overall experience. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant. It would have been nice if they'd given the option to heat it up. It was served cold, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was warm. The bread of the croissant was delicious and airy, but I would have liked a little something else on the inside. It was mainly just bread with itty bitty slivers of ham and cheese. Made for a good snack. My friend and I shared a brownie ball dessert. It was very, very sweet. We enjoyed it, but we were glad that we shared it. For clarity, I'm a savory over sweet person. It looks like they have some amazing options if you have more of a sweet tooth. Their coffee was not bad and the other bread options looked amazing! I've been here a few times. I love their croissants. You have a few options to choose from: plain, almond, chocolate. I tried their almond croissant. It was flaky, buttery, and toasty. They also have scones, which come in different flavors: blueberry and maple pecan. I've tried them all. The most I like is the maple glazed pecan scone, which is buttery, nutty, and not too sweet. One thing I have to say is they have savory scones - bacon and cheddar, which you don't find very often around. They have a variety of breads made from scratch, like French baguette, sourdough, and brioche. I bought a loaf of the multi-grain bread home among other items. It was as fresh and aromatic as you could get. Ask for a freshly baked loaf of bread of your choice. If available, they can grab one from the kitchen for you. Their drink menu is not too extensive, but you can still get a hand-crafted latte, espresso, or cappuccino, or just a house coffee. They also have some delicious sandwiches and soup for lunch. As you can tell from our photos, we GREATLY enjoyed the cake as well. We met with Francesca before the wedding to taste cake and icing options (it was an incredibly tough decision thanks to how delicious it all was), and let her know about our wedding theme and vision. She absolutely nailed the champagne gold coloring and 3D fern effect on the cake. I was so sorry to not get to see her again on the day of the wedding, but she perfectly took the flowers provided by our florist to transfer our vision onto the cake as well! I was so impressed that I didn't even need to give her direction with the florals on the cake, she just immediately nailed it. Hit-and-miss. Haven't dropped by in a few months because the bakery items on weekends can be already sold out and coffee drink quality is low. My wife and I dropped by numerous times and often found the bakery items we wanted were no longer available. Half of the cupcakes were vanilla with vanilla frosting and the other half lemon-blueberry with vanilla frosting. The macarons were strawberry.
