We really wanted to love Butterfly Cakery (especially since its so close to our house), but it was awful. From the moment we stepped in, the vibe was ... nonexistent. With such a prime location, you'd think they'd play up the indoor/ outdoor seating areas, make it cozy, charming music, a place to chill with friends over a cupcake. Instead, the inside felt like a doctors waiting room and the outside was damaged run down patio furniture and occupied with the local homeless. Four bucks per cupcake isn't outrageous, when its worth it. Ours, sadly, tasted like they were thawing out, still partially frozen. The frosting was sweet but didn't deliver a strong delicious flavor, no zip. We normally start saying "mmmmm" when something is divine but this was more like "oh no!" For $4 a pop, you'd expect a little magic and forks. Instead they disappeared into the trash, poof, $8.00 gone! We would have given our feedback to anyone who would listen, but honestly no one cared enough to check on us. I would have asked for a refund ...and we regret the 10 minutes of our time to stop by. read more

First time customer. I picked up a cake I ordered last week for my parent's 50th anniversary party. The ordering process was super easy. Very nice bakery! They have relocated since I first found them to a much more noticeable storefront. That's a good thing because they have a wonderful selection of cupcakes for grab and go. I stopped in 5 minutes before closing and had several flavor options to choose from. We opted for devil's food chocolate, Oreo, birthday cake and s'mores. I did not do a mousse injection but wish I had. The cakes were tasty but not mid-blowing flavors - the story was in the frosting. I should note the Oreo had chunks of cookie throughout which was delightful. I plan to try out more cupcakes but with the mousse center because I suspect that will elevate good cake into amazing cake. They clearly specialize in custom cakes. I keep driving by this place and meaning to stop and today I did. I was greeted warmly when I entered. I couldn't help but take in all the talent that filled the little bakery. A wall of wedding cakes on display to one side, a spacious space with tables to sit and enjoy a cupcake and straight ahead was a pastry case filled with delicious looking treats. It was clear this is more of a specialty cake bakery BUT the cupcakes they offered were decorated with precision and skill and each had a generous amount of yummy looking frosting on top. The flavors were all different, but nothing too crazy that it was a turn-off. I decided to choose a chocolate cupcake injected with chocolate mousse and chocolate frosting. Four dollars ($4) is pretty average for cupcakes these days and the cupcake was average size. I enjoyed my cupcake, but wish I'd have waited for it to be room temperature, rather than chilled before eating so it would have been softer and fluffier instead of so dense. It was still yummy and I would definitely reach out should I ever need a cake or cupcakes for a special event. read more

I got a wedding cake from here for my son's wedding. The experience and the cake were terrible! The cake had multiple hairs (or something non edible that was long and hair like) in the icing and instead of being apologetic the owner/manager just wanted to reinforce that no one in the kitchen had hair that color. And this was while she was staring at the hair-like substance. They put the entire burden on us - we had to bring the cake back to the bakery (instead of them making another one) that night so they could refrost. My other son had to pick up the cake the morning of the wedding and a wedding guest decorated the cake the way the bride intended to do the night before. No consideration; no apologies; no 'here is a discount/some cupcakes/anything' for the stress and aggravation. And we were all extremely nice the entire time. The cake tasted very good but I steer everyone away from this bakery due to everything else as there are so many other options. read more

Flavor was snickerdoodle with a whipped cream inside. It was absolutely delicious. Light and fluffy! My son is a die hard Steph Curry, Golden State fan and Bri made his birthday cake wishes come true! Flavor was strawberry with of course the whipped inside. I read the reviews others have written here and decided to order a fault line cake for my birthday. I love cake and have tried many cakes in my lifetime, but unfortunately Butterfly Cakery fell below expectations, and in all honesty, quite far below a reasonable standard of quality for a $50 cake. I got a 6" white raspberry cake with lemon buttercream icing, and when I picked it up it looked great from the outside, just like the pictures online. After my birthday dinner and candles and singing and much happiness, I cut into the cake - and shock and disappointment set in. The cake was literally more than half icing. The outer coating of icing was an inch thick so the 6" cake was more like 4" of actual cake, and the layers of icing in between the cake layers were also inch-thick, while the pieces of cake were sad and thin. Taste-wise, it was okay - the cake (what little of it was there) was fine, while the lemon buttercream icing had no hint of lemon and was overly sweet, especially given the sheer volume of it. I'd also note that this buttercream tasted like grocery store frosting - it is definitely not European buttercream. We had to eat around it. Please see the pictures attached and judge for yourself. Now compare with some of the pictures that Butterfly Cakery has posted on Instagram, like this one (https://www.instagram.com/p/Btelz8nnZ23/) or this one (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bop15fWB_uP/). They clearly know how to bake a great cake with the proper ratio of cake to icing. The one I received was very, very far from that. I contacted Butterfly Cakery via email to let them know that the cake had come out wrong. I make a genuine effort to give small businesses the benefit of the doubt and not complain, but in this case they clearly messed up the bake on the cake layers and made up the difference by slathering on icing. Instead of offering a partial refund or some other way to make it right, they responded by doubling down saying that what I received was perfectly normal, and they needed the thick layer of icing on the exterior to create the fault line texture. I understand that, but that doesn't explain the inch-thick layers of icing in between thin cake layers. And no matter the reasoning, in the end the result is a cake that is 30% inedible unless you enjoy spooning globs of pure icing in your mouth. They also told me that next time I should order a "semi-naked" cake that comes with less icing, which isn't an option listed anywhere on the website. Not sure how their wedding cakes turn out, but would not recommend this place for a birthday cake or smaller personal cake - they don't put in as much effort and don't offer to fix mistakes. read more

It's a good thing I don't live closer! I could seriously get addicted to the Cake Bowls. They are such a great idea. Cake, mousse filling and buttercream frosting in a disposable bowl with lid. It was reasonably priced at $5. I picked the Almond and it was delicious. I also want to mention how beautiful and bright the bakery itself is. The owner did a great job with decor. We chose them because of their Beautiful, tasty cakes. But if you use them, make certain to get every SINGLE, teeny tiny, minute detail IN WRITING. Better yet, record every word of every single contact you have with any one associated with this bakery. Do not email, do not call, do not stop in to make changes unless you get it in writing. Every single time. And be prepared that if they make a mistake, and you contact them about it, it is YOUR fault. Brittany will blame YOU for their mistakes. Know that what you taste will be really good, but the actual cake will have 1/2"-3/4" frosting between the layers, making it cloyingly sweet. It overpowered the cake... Also make sure there is no hot glue on your cake as there was on my daughters' wedding cake. Yes, hot glue. On the cake. There were other issues including a lost custom cake topper we took in to her less than two weeks before the wedding, but I'll end it here. All of the other vendors we used were a dream to work with and executed their parts beautifully without any drama and only the tiniest of glitches. read more

A bit condescending in their communication so we decided to either use our caterer or continue looking as there are plenty of reputable bakeries in the area. If you do not meet their minimum order to have an in-house tasting, it is hard to build rapport since you are just a name behind an email and I assume it makes it easier to lose a client due to customer service issues (with the owner). I've read other reviews about the lack of detail, so it is probably better that we parted ways prior to my daughter's wedding because I am extremely detailed so this partnership would have struggled in the future. Competition is steep in this area, what sets you apart besides taste, is customer service and they certainly dropped the ball. The owner stated she will refund the Bridal Luncheon cake we ordered so that is a positive. The cake itself, most are way too sweet for our family and very light on the filling. My daughter does like the lightly lemon and that is what we were going to choose for all three tiers for her wedding cake because she wasn't fond of the other flavors. read more
