Great service! Originally we were going to have 2 large limbs removed that hung over our house. Then we had an Ailanthus tree fall from our yard onto our neighbors fence. So THAT needed to go, as well as the remaining 2 ailanthus trees. Then as we looked at the tree with the large limbs, of course then we see it was rotten at the top. So that huge tree also needed to go. Bottom line was we spent way more that we had initially hoped, but once the crew was working it was easy to see why it cost what it did. They had an amazing piece of equipment that fit into the backyard and was able to reach way up to the tree top. The crew did a fantastic job of removing the trees without hitting our roof, the fence, the neighbors house and fence, etc. They also did a wonderful job of cleaning up after the removal, and it at our request left us some oak firewood, nicely stacked. I would not hesitate to hire them again. I had gotten several other quotes before going with Mills. It was hard to compare quotes because we ended up doing more work that initially planned, but we are glad we did the additional work. read more

I had Mills back for another round of dead tree removal, but this time I was not as pleased with the service. The team was in a hurry and did not do as quality a job as the first time I worked with them. Things were a bit sloppy, with some of the dead trees striking and scarring living trees on the way down, and a miscommunication about a line wrap which dropped a large branch on a living tree and damaged it. I know these guys are really good at what they do, so I think this was probably just a bad day for them, but I think they should schedule jobs so they are not in a rush, and always operate with the same quality of service they used the first time I worked with them, where they went above and beyond to clean up the yard and worked very carefully to protect the living trees. I'll probably give them another try sometime, but I did want to post this constructive feedback for their team. Thanks! read more

Burgess and team were great. They displayed unparalleled understanding of their work and were a pleasure to work with. Burgess is also quite fearless! Just take a look at the attached photos. He climbed the tree like he was born to do it, and then he expertly "took it apart" one limb at a time using a highly coordinated rope-based pulley system to pass the limbs down one at a time to the team below to take to the wood chipper or to haul. Mills Tree Service did GREAT work for me, and I can't say enough good things. I requested quotes from several tree services here on Yelp to have a tree removed. Burgess responded quickly, gave me a rough quote based on photos, then a definite quote within the next few days. He was patient with us while we worked with the District to get a hazardous tree removal permit, and once we had permit in hand, he was ready to come remove the tree within five days! He does not mess around. So on the morning of our tree removal, Burgess and crew arrived with three guys, a chipper, and a stump grinder, which (thankfully) fit down our alley, getting pretty close to the back gate. Removing the ENTIRE tree, and grinding the stump, took a total of about two hours. Again, no messing around. The tree removal itself was a model of efficiency and safety. Burgess was up the tree with the chain saw, and the rest of the crew wrangled branches on the ground. I hereby declare Burgess "Master of the Fulcrum" -- he would sling a rope over a higher branch and tie it to the branch being removed. A few cuts with the chainsaw, and the branch would swing free, reliably clearing fence posts and a light pole. The crew removed the rope and drag the branch off to the chipper. Repeat for two solid hours. Then a few minutes of stump grinding, and a few more minutes of clean-up in our yard, in the adjacent playground, and in the alley. Conclusion: Mills is just plain good at tree removal. And judging by Burgess' attitude, they are probably good at everything else they do too. From this experience, they are an honest, efficient, reliable, and hard-working company. I would call them again in a heartbeat. If I had any more trees :( read more

Needed a stump removed and I tried so many companies, most of whom never even responded. The ones that did respond were either extremely expensive, or they didn't have the proper machine that would come down my incline to get to the stump. Plus one other company who couldn't get me on the schedule anytime soon. Mills was very quick to respond and scheduled me in sooner than I was hoping. The price was the lowest quote I had gotten, and when the day came they were on time, if not a few minutes early, and did a great job. They cleaned up after themselves as well which was unexpected. These guys came through in the clutch. I had a dead cherry tree fall in my backyard in a Saturday afternoon. I was shook and wanted to get it resolved immediately. After speaking with my insurance company, they said I could get a quote and proceed. Mills was the only company that I called and someone picked up on a Saturday. Burgess gave me his number and told me to text him some pictures and he would give me a quote based on those. He quoted me a price to remove the fallen tree and the damaged play set. We scheduled him to come on Thursday. He stopped by on Monday to look at things and then after someone changed schedules he brought a crew to do the work on Wednesday. The entire crew was friendly, easy to talk to and just really helpful. They took the time to point out some dead branches that I might want to get removed as well as a recommendation for taking down some smaller trees that would help keep the bigger trees healthier. I bought the extra services and Mills worked with me on the price. I'd recommend these guys again! read more

Me.We had a cherry tree that was infested with Carpenter ants and termites and was in our townhomes back yard. The space wss small and the tree was big. I put out for about 5 different quotes. Mills and other quotes were along the same amount, but some thing set Mills apart that made me choose Mills over the others was the flexibility of the staff in communicating with me ( sometimes on the phone, over text etc) and the fact they sent out someone to give me an estimate on Saturday. Tommy came out, was able to explain to me what exactly was going to happen and how much it would cost. He was honest about some things I asked but it was an easy process. The actual tree removal happened quick. We scheduled a date, my wife was home, she said they were quick, picked up any mess they made. The tree forked in to my neighbors backyard and they were great about being careful in their property too. Removal of a 20+ ft cherry tree was about 2 hours. So, I initially gave this service a bad review because they told me they couldn't come out to my area, when I could clearly see online that they had serviced areas at least as far out as mine. I honestly thought that they were avoiding my zipcode for socio-economic/racial reasons. However, right after I posted my initial review, a representative contacted me and told me that they would love to get to my house, but they couldn't manage it at the moment because they were swamped with fallen trees from a recent storm. She apologized for any misunderstanding, and said that she'd be happy to add me to the list of non-essential jobs. Once she explained, I understood immediately what was going on, in a way that wasn't expressed by the initial email. I want to give this business kudos for responding immediately to potential customers who felt slighted and didn't understand why. I can't offer any review as to their work, but their customer service is spot on! I have given "disappointing" reviews before, and this is the first time anyone has called me to sort something out. I hired them to finish cutting the oak down, and two other trees. The crew arrived right on time, and were efficient and professional. While they were here, I talked about two other trees that had limbs leaning on my house and asked what they thought. They were very knowledgeable and told me the trees were white oaks and completely healthy and walked me through what could be trimmed from house and we negotiated a good price. After contacting Mills Tree Service - we setup an appointment for an estimate to have 10-12 huge and decaying Leyland Cypress trees removed. They explained the process, including stump grinding and debris removal. The price was reasonable so I texted them to confirm and they promptly followed up and provided the written proposal, with all of the details that were discussed - which was comforting. We signed & returned the contract, and were added to the the schedule. They arrived promptly this morning - with a crew, wood chipper, ladders, tree climbing equipment, chainsaws, grinders, blowers and who knows what :) - They were prepared!! We had about seven large trees hanging over our house that needed trimming and a bunch of poplar trees that had taken over some of our landscaping. I don't think Mills Tree Service has a receptionist or scheduler, so the scheduling part was a little off - I called, didn't get a response, forgot about it, five days later as I was leaving for a trip got a call that they were on their way to our house. Once we were able to coordinate our schedules, Tommy came out and I was very impressed with how knowledgeable he was and his recommendations. The quote was very competitive and specifically the quote to remove the poplars and fix the landscaping was half the price of our normal landscaping service. I was not home while they did the work; I arrived home as they were just finishing up and was blown away at how great it looked. They went above and beyond. I could not believe how good it looked and how neat everything was. It was the best our yard has looked in years. There is no question that I would give them five stars, despite the slightly unorganized scheduling, their level of service, attention to detail, and knowledge of trees far exceeded my expectations. read more

I recently bought a property in Warrenton that had entirely too many 100 foot plus poplar trees within 20 feet of the house. Burgess and the guys were truly artists in removal quickly and without any damage. They were easy to work with and reasonable with small extra requests. They were at this place 4 days total and took down 23 trees as well as pruned up one tree with some "tree sized" limbs of its own. They work well together and don't take specific breaks, so the work is more or less continuous. They have the right equipment to navigate tight spaces for minimal yard damage as well as removal of large amounts of wood. If you call, you are likely to get a voice mail but they do call back pretty quickly and keep you informed. I thought the price was quite reasonable for the work done (I have a lot of experience with hiring tree services). These days it is hard to find honest and hard working folks like Mills. Within 3 days of our accepting the estimate (there was a weekend involved), they scheduled the work. I interviewed six tree services for an estimate and the gave me one I was comfortable with. They had the right equipment, the right amount of crew, and didn't even take a break until it was done! They came out the next morning because we had a tree come down in a wind strom. They were meticulous in cleanup and haul away. Their equipment was very efficient and took less than 4 hours to take down a 60-foot pine tree that had fallen on our house. The horrible storm last Thursday ripped through trees in my back yard. I had to go through homeowners insurance, and Mills Tree Service came out the same day I contacted them to give an estimate. They followed up with me the next day. The insurance questioned the estimate and contacted my insurance; and I received the full payment. Mills came out early Monday morning and took care of it.
