They removed several trash trees from my yard and cleaned up a pin oak that had been neglected for years. Their prices are reasonable too.

I've had the company out 3 times across 2 homes. Would recommend. The first job they removed and ground the stump on a 40-60' poplar that was dying. It was in an area of my yard where heavy equipment wouldn't get back there and they had no issues climbing it and removing the tree. Second time they came out and consulted with me on issues I was having with two trees, talked through how to save and whether to cut down. Open about their minimum price. I elected to do some of that work myself and defer the rest. Third time they came out to my second property and removed about 20 small to medium sized trees and bushes. Ground the stumps down and cleaned up afterwards. We have a lot of underground wiring for lighting and most of it seems to have survived the grinding. Bamboo removal and eradication was the work I needed done. Many companies just flat out decline to do this work and the only other company which sent someone out to give an estimate was priced far outside of budget and tried to upsell by adding on unnecessary extras to further Jack up the cost. The proposal by Big Steve's was not cheap by any means but it was fair for this huge and daunting task. Work was completed as promised despite the record breaking heat. Only time will tell if it is truly gone for good but the backyard looks amazing. What had been a bamboo forest is now back to being open space to garden, entertain, or for the kids and dogs to play. Update: just over a month later there are new bamboo shoots popping up in multiple spots in the backyard. I will try to dig them out myself and treat the new growth with an herbicide. I was really hopeful that the bamboo had been truly eradicated but at least it isn't the jungle it had been. I still recommend Big Steve's, I realize that running bamboo is just a nightmare to get rid of. read more

We had a positive experience with Big Steve's and would hire them again. In particular, we were impressed with the professionalism and responsiveness of the office staff (Will) and the removal crew. We needed a professional opinion about what to do with a maple tree that had outgrown its space and was infringing on our neighbor's property. I was pleasantly surprised that even in the busy spring season Steve was able to come out and do a review and estimate right away--the same week. It was clear that Steve, as a certified arborist, is an expert in his field. He could tell right away that our tree had been "topped" and that information was helpful to us in determining whether to prune or cut down the tree. However, as a new homeowner and novice in tree care, I had trouble understanding some of Steve's answers to some of my questions and I could sense his frustration. It made me feel small, and I was really just trying to understand his recommendation. Perhaps he was in a rush, but the entire visit took only about 10-15 minutes. He provided a quote for the maple tree and another tree we were considering cutting down ($750 to prune the maple, $900 to cut it down, and $200 to grind the stump). I asked that he include certain specific information on the quote as tree removal must be approved by our HOA, and he did not initially include it, but a follow up call with Will cleared it up and we got a revised quote. Once our HOA approved the removal, we called to schedule and lucky us they had a cancellation and would be able to schedule us for the next day! The grounds crew were extremely efficient and courteous of our property. They really went above and beyond to ensure that all the debris was tidied--even going so far as to offer to carry away some hydrangea stems I'd pruned and left on the ground. I will say I would have preferred a heads up call that they were on their way, especially because they really weren't able to give me an arrival window. I would hesitate, however, in hiring them again for tree pruning. I have had two large branches break in the past few weeks with heavy rains and storms. The owner likes to "thin out" trees vs substantially trim them, as he explained to me. In the end, I have been going a lot of trimming these past few weeks myself. I will start by saying I should have asked for a more detailed price breakdown before signing the contract. I had Big Steve's Tree Care come out to trim back a tree in my backyard and remove a boxwood from the front yard. The tree in the back was done quickly and well, and all debris was removed. The boxwood was cut down in under 5 minutes. When the stump grinder showed up, it didn't look possible to get the machine up the hill, and suggested that I call the office for a refund. I was told that I would only receive $10 back for not being able to grind the stump. I was confused because that seemed like the bulk of the work and inquired why it was only a $10 refund. The person I spoke to was extremely rude as I was trying to find out why it was now $115 (later $90 after we re-discussed the size of the stump) to cut down a bush. I understand that I should have asked for clarification on the task breakdown before signing the contract. But I also don't think I deserved the attitude and accusations. I was told to contact another company from now on, and gladly will. read more

I've used this company a couple of times and they have always done a great job while also being nice and professional! But todays experience took them to another level! This may be no big deal to some, but showed the great customer service of Donald and his team! Bottom line..my job was scheduled for early morning but to be respectful of me and my neighbors, they did all of the "quiet" work first and stacked all the limbs/branches by the chipper. They intentionally paid attention to the time and didn't turn on the loud chipper until 9am! Also the cleanup afterwards was spotless! We had one tree to take down and two needed dead branches removed. We originally wanted a large branch removed on one of our trees, but Steve, being an arborist, informed us that it is an Ash tree, they are endangered, and he would only remove the dead growth. His guys showed up on time, worked hard and did an amazing job cleaning up after they were done. We opted to keep some of the wood from the felled tree and they even stacked it neatly along our fence. The added bonus was that Steve's rates were extremely reasonable. I am very impressed with Big Steve's Tree Service. We have used several different tree services, and at every turn, I felt like I was getting swindled because they were there on the spot and could charge us the premium fee. Big Steve's on the other hand was fair, easy to work with, not high pressure, and did an exception job. Not only did Steve give me the best price, he was the only one who took my job seriously and their service is outstanding. I had 2 stumps to grind, one tree to trim and large (6 feet) shrub to remove. Not going to post prices but he was easily the lowest. Everyone but Kenny Jenkins was almost double. Big Steve's crew took care of deforesting our back yard last Thursday and I couldn't be happier with the results. House sits on about 1/3 of an acre and had been overgrown with brush and poorly placed trees that crowded each other out to create a foresty mess. I got quotes from several vendors and Steve was courteous and knowledgeable, walking me through the process and answering any questions I had. His price was also the most competitive one we received (seriously some of the quotes we got were just insulting for the exact same scope of work). I had them leave the tree for me to use for firewood, they cut them all down to 16-20 inches for me to chop later. Had an awesome experience with Big Steve's for a tree removal. I requested an estimate through their website after a tree in our yard became unstable during the recent wind-storm, and Nora promptly responded. My husband and I both have busy work schedules, and they graciously agreed to provide an estimate while we were away from home and left the estimate under our door. Nora and team were super-accommodating and accomplished the job without us every meeting in person. We signed the estimate, scanned and emailed it, and they came by to remove the tree two business days later. They came back to grind the stump down the next day and sent us an invoice through the mail, which I paid by mailing a check. I had a Pyracantha shrub in my front yard that started to die. I found out that it had Deadman's finger and was a lose. I called around to find an arborist that would give me a few options. I found Big Steve's Tree Care in a google search of top 10 tree care in our area. I called them up. He was out in just a few days, confirmed my worst suspicions and gave me an extremely reasonable quote to complete remove the shrub. After the HOA approved the removal, Big Steve's crew showed up on time, removed the scrub, cleaned up, and departed. I didn't have to do anything after they left. no raking, no cutting up the scrub for Wednesday pickup. Big Steve's was one of six assessments I got of two trees in the yard. I prefer to save trees if possible, and Steve explained that one was definitely dead, and the other could maybe get 2-3 more years, but showed me what the issues were. After all the estimates were in, only 2 were clear on why both trees must come down. One company recommended a "light pruning" on the tree Steve said was failing fast. Big Steve's was just over half the price of the other firm I considered after hearing what all had to say. The crew showed up exactly on time, with four guys who seemed to know what they were doing. They were polite, professional, and cheerful (and it was hot and muggy). Perhaps the jug of iced tea I set out for them helped. They all understood English! When all was said and done, both trees were gone, near grade as I had requested. The guys cut and left some of the dead wood, as I asked, for my fire pit, and completely cleared everything else. They asked before running equipment over my lawn, and put everything back to rights. They raked twigs and blew leaves and sawdust, removing it all. Two things kept them from getting a 5-star. First, the guys did not wear eye protection, dust masks, or hard hats. I realize I'm not the one paying workers comp on them, but as a military retiree who often ended up as safety officer, I cringed. When I asked one of the chainsaw wielders why he wasn't wearing goggles, he said he didn't have them. Second, when they were finished, the team lead asked me to make my check payable to an individual rather than to the business. I've been burned before doing that, and I expect a professional firm to operate in the name of the business. Big Steve runs a good, honest business. Came out to evaluate removal of three Bradford Pear trees. They were "junk" trees in his opinion, and after living through the droppings they produced, I can't say I disagreed. They were also dangerously close to the house and destroying the roof. Crew came out and knocked out two trees the first day and the third on the second. All stumps ground down. As tidy as it could have been, but be prepared, tree removal is serious, messy business. Your lawn will be messed up, especially by their stump remover, but they did as good a job as I think possible. One year later, and I'm happy with how things look. read more

Great job! Steve's team took down a 30' tree in my back yard. While it wasn't a very large tree, it was very close to a fence and surrounded by other vegetation that I wanted to keep. They did a great job of taking down the tree without touching anything around it. They also ground down the stump, which given the proximity to the fence was a little tricky. As promised, the crew showed up at 9:00am. Julio was the foreman and very nice, very professional. I spoke to a few of the other crew members who were also very nice. There was a lot of wood to remove due to the large pine trees. They had all of the trees down by early afternoon. All of the grinding was done by about 4:00 pm. After they left, the only evidence you could see of the old trees, or that they had been in the yard, was small piles of mulch around the old tree bases. I was informed that this would be the case when I signed the contract. They even ran their leaf blowers to get all of the pine needles and cones out of the yard. Steve showed up the next morning, introduced himself, and worked with me to figure out exactly how to cut it. He recommended a different level and degree of cutting than I was asking, but gave me a satisfactory explanation of why. I called the office to schedule the cutting because the estimate was WAY below what we expected to pay for this, and Nora said she could only schedule us for two weeks out, but she would keep us on the waiting list in case something opened up. We had an 80 foot tree hit into our addition that has 18 big windows and two sky lights. Thankfully the tree missed all our glass but I was concerned that while removing the tree some windows would be broken. I called Big Steves and within 30 minutes Julio came over to give us an estimate. They were willing to come out that afternoon to remove the tree but I wanted it down first thing the next morning. My husband was concerned about his grass so they laid plywood down and a tarp over the plywood. They took their time getting the tree tied up and supported by wood so it would not hit the house when it was cut. The crew did an awesome job for the three hours they were at our home.
