JL cut a large tree down that hit my home. They piled the tree on the street in front of my house and some on my front yard. A MASSIVE pile of tree. Sitting here over two weeks from when they cut it down and they will not come and get the tree. I called to complain and they gave me an appointment date. That day came and went and they still did not clean it up. Every time I call they seem to not know anything about it and we have to start the conversation all over again about the issue. They did fine cutting the tree down but zero professionalism and follow through. read more

I've used them in the past but never again. On the night of the recent Microburst, we lost a major tree limb and it blocked the sidewalk and part of the road. After I called that evening they got back to me later that night and said a crew would be out first thing the next morning. The next morning only an estimator arrived, and said the crew would be out no later than 1:30. Late in the afternoon, after nobody showed, I called and was told there was no indication that it was an emergency and it would be a couple of days before anyone could come out. I have used JL Tree twice now for two larger tree removals. One leaning 35" dbh red oak and a codominant (two trunks, same base) 51" dbh tulip poplar that was towering over our house and at risk of splitting. The whole experience from the first free and very informative consultation, to scheduling, to the day-long removal was seamless. The crew completed the very difficult job with the crane being placed in the front yard and towering over the house into the back yard. They were very careful with the crane stabilizers and clean-up, and very committed to making the job as easy for us as possible. Regarding price, they were very competitive and came in at the lowest "per tree" range out of 3-4 other quotes we received, especially with the winter discount. Highly recommend! read more

JL Tree Service was a great experience and I would use them again. First of all, their customer service and prompt response to calls and emails was excellent. In fact, they had multiple team members reach out to myself and my neighbor, whom we did a project together (tree removal). The project walk-through was excellent and the quote came the same day. I liked when the customer representative walked through with me, asked if I was a veteran (and I am), and provided me a veteran discount. The quote was obviously the best, as we went with them, but even if another vendor came in at the same price, I would probably go with JL Tree bc of their responsiveness. I had one vendor who didn't call me back for over 30 days! The day of the project was excellent. The foreman and I walked through the project (three tree removals). J&L Tree company is my go to tree removal company. Why then is my rating only a 2 star rating? Their stump removal service scheduling sucks. We had two trees removed last fall - the tree cutting service is wonderful - but the stump removal people scheduled on a day i had planned to leave on vacation, several weeks after the actual trees came down. This spring, I had them remove two more trees - wonderful removal crew. It has now been 4 weeks since the trees came down, and still no call from the stump people. I imagine they will try to schedule on the day i need to leave for two funerals. read more

I hired JL Tree Service to trim large branches from a giant oak tree next to my house that was endangering my roof to the extent that my homeowners insurance would be cancelled. I had only a short period of time to get this done. They gave me an estimate, presented me with a proposal and price that was very reasonable and got all the work completed in less than a week. JL Tree accidentally knocked down my mailbox, and yet they still earn 5 stars in my book. That might seem odd at first, but it was all in the way they handled the situation. First, their work was excellent. I was impressed with the person who came out to give me an estimate and liked the fact that he used a laser pointer to show me exactly where the branches in my very tall tree would be cut back. Then, the team showed up on time on the day of the trimming and did excellent work, then cleaned up so well that you wouldn't have even known they were there. When I came out to inspect their work, they apologized and let me know that they accidentally knocked down my mailbox when backing the cherry-picker out of the driveway. Honestly, I never would have noticed it (at first) if they hadn't mentioned it. They had managed to get it upright again and easily could have left without telling me, but they owned up to it. They wrote up a damage ticket, then came back two days later to install a brand new mailbox and post, paint it, and fix the stone border around the base. I would have had major damage to my roof if it had fallen due to the size of limb and the height it was precariously hanging. First, let me say, it was easy to make an appointment with the company and they came out promptly and right on time. Unfortunately, my problem has to do with a neighbors group of 20 foot spruce trees that are growing over my property in the back of my yard. I am sure that everyone has had a pesky neighbor that won't take care of their property. Well, John advised me to wait a little while, before starting work on the trees. He told me that they were healthy trees and they would only be able to take off three feet of branches. On a 20 foot tree, that is not a lot. I am so appreciative of his advise and his honesty. I had this company remove a tree two and a half years ago. No issues. I called them back this year to remove two more. Guy came out, gave me a quote. Very nice. I accepted the quote in less than an hour, got the automated email saying someone would be in contact to schedule. Radio silence. After not hearing from anyone for three whole business days I called. The person i spoke with said the scheduler wasn't answering their phone. (Surprise, surprise.) Said they would give me a call. As of writing this review, I still have not heard. I since found another company to do the work for a good bit less. So sad that people can't even do simple work tasks like calling and scheduling nowadays. Ridiculous. read more

Great service and actually lowest estimate as well, highly recommended. They came out and gave a free estimate, also I didnt have to pay until after the work was completed. They also don't charge an extra 3% fee like other tree services companies which makes a big difference as well. I had my 3+ story tree removed and had the stump / roots removed as well. They also back filled and leveled the area which i needed for my HOA. I didn't realize at the time but this project was 3 separate appointments which was not clear from the beginning (1 - tree removal; 2 - stump grind; 3 - stump debris removal and leveling). When I first contacted them, they were very prompt in sending an arborist/estimator to survey the job. Before he left, I knew how the trees would be cut down and removed, and was given a written estimate. The price quoted for the work was very competitive. The crew that took down the trees was skilled, very professional and worked very efficiently. They used a crane and wood chipper and were able to arrange them so that traffic on our small road could get by. Upon completion they removed all timber pieces, big and small. My neighbor had a tree removed, the trunk piece hit the ground so hard it broke a branch off from my tree and landed on my car which left a substantial dent in it. When I spoke with them about it, they said it was my branch so my problem. Completely unprofessional and unhelpful since my new car is damaged and there is no recourse. I am furious. read more
