Just a typical morning for breakfast- my wife gets biscuit and homemade gravy as advertised (which obviously comes from a can) and I get the pork tenderloin (hard fried jerky) 2 eggs over medium (which by the picture is no less than OVER done) home fries mediocre at best and 2 of the 4 slices of toast that I got (because the waitress dropped 2 after slinging them at us because she was flustered at the yelling coming from the kitchen- but at least the cook had the nerve to take all the waitresses back to the kitchen after gathering them all up on the floor in front of us before the battle took place back of house. Whatever the problem was they didn't mind trying to explain how mad they were and continued the vocal exchange each time they came in and out of the kitchen, the manager 'I assume' was none the wiser to all the commotion going on and kept his head down and continued to seat customers while on his phone. I won't even bring up the obvious mold all over the ceiling. I don't know if I was in an episode of Hell's Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares, but either way Gordon Ramsey would have been pissed and shut the restaurant down. We have given y'all 3 chances (3 too many) so I guess we are back to looking for a place for local breakfast on weekends. PS- with the price of everything now a day you should be honored the people want to spend their hard earned money with you and not take it for granted. read more

I've passed here when going or coming from Brevard to the Asheville airport and never had a chance to eat here. The parking lots always crowded when I drive by. The place is huge inside. It even has a banquet room. We were early and had breakfast. Everything was great. Their breads are made fresh daily . My cornbread was made that morning. Nice! Staff very friendly and our waitress had a playful comical attitude. Salad bar looked amazing and a lot of choices. Very fresh. Clean. Lots of dressing choices and toppings. I am in town for a work meeting and I was peeking around for something that was unique and homemade. Staying near the airport- there's a few places but I chose this spot because the menu was large and the offerings was attractive. I walked in and was greeted by Laura, who let me know that I had all the time to o choose what I wanted to go with. I asked a few questions, got honest answers. I decided that I was going to have the Pastitsio (kind of like a Greek lasagna), with two veggies (corn and green beans), and I can't say no to hush puppies, so I ordered them as an "app" or more like bread service. Checked out their dessert case. Lots of offerings, including baklava. Laura told me the strawberry cheesecake was excellent so I chose that over plain. The berries looked enormous! The order was quick, and I went on my way to my hotel to unpack this bag. Having a late dinner tonight was helpful with the food. The pastitsio was rich but still has good flavor with the balance of pasta, ground beef, bechamel sauce, and marinara. Hefty square and it was delicious. My veggies were the first to go. Corn was fresh and the beans were tasty but they were canned. No biggie, that's not a problem for me. The hush puppies were fried so they look like onion rings. Really delicious and also flavorful, the negative was that the side of tartar I ordered did not make it into the bag. That being said- they probably did me a big favor since that's just extra calories and not really needed with the hush puppies. For showing up around 7 PM and then getting to eat in my hotel about 30 minutes later is impressive. Great food, great service, and I will be back the next time I have work meetings in town! Been about 15 years since we last wrote about the Mills River restaurant. Not a whole lot has changed, though we don't remember the full, fresh salad bar that we enjoyed on our most recent visit. It's all pretty basic, but their menu is enormous: favorites ranging from liver to ham, meatloaf to chicken tenders; steaks, dozens of appetizers, fried seafood platters, wraps, sandwiches, Greek and Italian specialities. You get the idea. It's not pricey (a dinner entree with sides runs around $14 to $17), and you can get a breakfast any time of day. And to go. The breakfast menu is just about as large: everything from waffles to Mexican omelettes, country steak and eggs to French toast. Prices mostly under about $12. The servers are friendly and quick. It's not fancy at all, but it's pretty good and will leave you feeling full, we're sure. read more

We' ve eaten here several times in the past few years and the food is always good. Just had lunch there and was disappointed. Not in the quality of the food, or the service, which was good, but in the manager/ owner. My chicken salad wrap was 90% lettuce and tomato and 10% chicken salad. Came here for a Thursday lunch after picking up my daughter from the Asheville airport. This restaurant is very clean and comfortable. Staff greeted us right away and we were seated right away. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We opted for the salad bar and great choice! Lettuce was fresh and crispy, cucumbers were crispy and the potato salad was so creamy. Ok service. Food ok at best. Took about ten minutes after I was seated for the waiter to come up to the table. Get my check, went to the counter to pay, and ran into one of the guys seating people. Looks like he just got off a 3-day bender, and smelled like it as well. Waiting at the counter to pay, the older gentleman was snatching and throwing the receipts back at the lady in front of me. The salad bar is not very well kept up. Some foods have been sitting there way too long, and there were spills that needed to be cleaned up. The servers are generally friendly. The food was just OK. My fish was cooked too fast. The outside was a golden brown, but the inside was raw. My husband's prime rib was served rare when he ordered medium. The older owner of the restaurant was very rude. I got to the register before my husband to pay as he is assisted by crutches. The owner asked me if I wanted to add a tip to the card. I said the tip was on the table, he then charged my card and tossed the receipt and card to me. He came from around the counter and went to the door, opened it to look out like he was looking for someone. I assumed he was going to hold the door for my husband but he didn't. He shut the door and walked back around to the register as if my husband wasn't there. I open the door for my husband and we then left. I didn't say anything because I did not want to make a scene but he acted like he could care less about us or our business. He is a very rude man. You are the owner of a restaurant yet you are rude and crude to your customers that makes no sense to me. This is our most favorite restaurant in the area! We visit Mills River once/year and eat here every single day for breakfast and/or lunch while we're there. There is plenty of variety on the menu to please all. Awesome salad bar. I recommend the biscuits and gravy, the farmers omelette, any of the wraps, and of course any of the homemade desserts!! Being young 40 somethings., often times we are the youngest people in there bye 1/2 off and we love it This is a Greek island old fashioned deli and 1/2 ny/nj style dinner, the 1/2 is because some of the foods are Southern and because they only offer breakfast until 11, the one thing I'd like to see them change Daily specials range from pork chops , turkey dinners, prime ribs, and all the standard Greek fair made from scratch, spanakopita, gyros, Patsitsio, moussaka, and souvlakis our favorite, part of all the is the boomer salad bar as I like to call it, 1/2 old fashion salad, but also Greek salads there on the weekend for unlimited Greek salad and every baby boomer pasta and potato salad including the carrot salad, pickled beets and onions, and three choices of pudding for dessert. Save room for some delicious desserts as well though. Service is good , more importantly, you can actually go here on a Sunday without a wait, which is a rare in this area. I live in Mills River for 30 years and never interested in visiting the restaurant after going once. Oh, I did not get a good vibe from the interaction of the old owner with his staff and that was a turn off. New owners are 99 percent rocking the place out of the park when it comes to quality of good ole southern food with a few wonderful authentic Greek dish choices. food and staffing I believe I would have given them a five star pad atmosphere, and the outside of the building have some kind of facelift... I don't normally post things like this but today I was absolutely appalled with the response I received from one of the owners at Mills River Restaurant. As I was standing in the lobby waiting to be seated, I looked straight ahead through the window into the kitchen and the employees were literally picking their nose and rubbing their faces as they were making folks food. I tell the owner and his response was, "What you want me to do about it." I was dumbfounded. So next time you're waiting to be seated take a look through the window directly in front of you and let me know if you wanna continue eating and supporting this establishment. This is a local eatery with American fare. The food is good, but very basic. It's not spicy or unpredictable. It's just kind of down home food that you don't need to guess about. Good variety, too. What I thought was extraordinary was that when we took my 96 yr old mother here for Easter, my husband drove right up next to the door. Two employees immediately came out and one held the door while the other told me she was a CNA and would help to get my mother out of the car. I was impressed and it was such a nice gesture! We have always loved eating here, breakfast, lunch or dinner. They are family owned and do so much to support our community. Hubby and I went to breakfast the other day and he had a huge omelette and I went with their Eggs Benedict. Their EB is always done to perfection, eggs are set enough but still runny enough to have egg to mop up with your home fries. They have a salad bar that includes banana pudding, y'all know you're in the South, right? In their veggie sides is usually fried squash and fried okra, both would do my Nanny proud. There is a dessert case when you walk in, so save some room or get it to go. Their homemade Challah Bread is available by the loaf, definitely pick one up and make some French Toast. read more

This is a country restaurant with great country cooking. There's actually a lot of choices on a huge dinner menu, including seafood and Italian. But I go here for the country meals. There are daily specials, a great salad bar, and you can get turkey & dressing on Thursdays! Everything I've ordered from here is good.
