I asked for eggshell color paint and spoke to a rep who was working in the paint dept kept asking me what color as if there was millions of different colors of eggshell & I said white and he continued to act as if he still didn't know what I was talking about as if I am the paint expert ,than one of coworker said satin eggshell and he continue to give me a hard time as if he was purposely doing this without any cause. They end up selling me white paint without the eggshell color for $24.99. The service department took advantage of my son. They said there was water in the tank but I drained the tank and bowl refilled with gas in a can that your store recommended and sold me before dropping it of for a 75 dollar check in fee. Then you charged my son for 2 hours of labor to get the non existent water out. You should be ashamed of taking advantage of a young man who doesn't know better. read more

I understand he was away from the shop for a week or two; but I have been patiently waiting to speak with him. I finally get a hold of him and it seems like he couldn't care less about the customers. Miller Hardware-ACE in Stephen's City also doubles as a gun store. That was the purpose for my visit. Outstanding customer service, extensive inventory, very competitive pricing. I was there for a specific item, which they had in stock, but did look around at their large selection of ammunition, hunting, and shooting gear. Really impressed. All the staff I interacted with were polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. Will make this my one stop shop for future purchases. read more

Gun department is a real cluster $%#! I drop off a handgun on 9/30/23 to have a complete spring set installed and test fired afterwards. I was given a quote of $100 plus $15 more to test fire the weapon. This is for a half hour job that I can personally do. When can I expect to get the gun back I ask? I am told from a week and a half to two weeks but no definite ready date. I say, OK and leave the gun while getting a receipt. During the drop off process a few bells went off which I ignored to my chagrin: Bell#1 When I asked the sales associate filling out the work order to make sure the gun is test fired before I get it back, he was befuddled. I told him I assume your gunsmith will test fire the gun to ensure his work is correct? The sales associate replied no, but he will do it for a fee I guess. I tell the sales associate if he had ever heard of the hard fast rule; never trust a weapon you haven't personally test fired? He replied no. I then ask why would I then trust your gunsmith's work if he doesn't test fire the weapon before he gives it back to me? Sales Associate's answer, I don't know. With that answer, Bell #2 goes off; what kind of gunsmith are they dealing with? Its now 10/17/23 and I haven't heard a thing from the gun shop or the gunsmith that my gun is ready. I decide an in-person visit is necessary to find out the status of my gun. No one knows what the status is except to say the gun is not in the store. I explain my displeasure as to the lack of knowledge regarding the status of my gun and the legal repercussions if my gun is lost. I made it clear I wanted their gunsmith contacted that day to find out the status of my gun and to call me before COB 10/17/23, to let me know what they found out. While I was conversing with the sales associate, another customer got behind me taking this all in. Bell#3: When the store associate goes away to find someone to help him answer my questions, the customer asks me if I had pawned my gun and wanted it back. I replied no, I left it for modification work. The customer replied "you could have fooled me, you sure this isn't a pawn shop?" No call back on 10/17/23 as requested. I call the shop the morning of 10/18/23 to pursue the matter further. I find out that the gunsmith was in the shop earlier that morning. My gun is not in the shop. When I press for a more informative status, I am told the gunsmith will try to get to it when he can. Nobody can tell me when that day will be. Okay, 19 days later, no gun and no work done on it with only a lackadaisical promise of '' he'll get to it when he can" to perform a 30-minute job and test firing? Bell #4 goes off. They simply do not care about my business!!! I clearly tell the store associate to get my gun, case, and parts back to his shop for pick up for the morning of 10/19/23. I picked up my gun before 12 noon on 10/19/23. One sales associate disappears while another just sits behind the register on his cell phone ignoring me. I announce I am there to pick up my gun. Again, sales associate doesn't know what or where my gun is. He has to go find out. I can see my property on the shelf in the back room. Its not tagged, its just sitting on the shelf. No one knows why the gun wasn't worked on, no one cares to find out why the gun wasn't worked on, and no one offer's even an apology. Nobody in the place cares period. For anyone who is thinking about buying, trading, or having gunsmithing done on their weapon(s) at this establishment, take into consideration the following; - Sales/job knowledge and professionalism is lacking. - No communication. - You cannot get a firm commitment as to when the work you need done will get done. This says a lot about a business. In short, NO ACCOUNTABILITY. With guns, you better always be accountable! - But most of all it says they don't care about your business. In summary, ask yourself reader; is this the place you want to leave your high dollar piece, a family heirloom, a collectable, or the gun your life may depend on in a split second? read more

I was in Winchester for business and had to pick up some Ammo. I asked the guy I was working with at the time. He sent me to an Ace Hardware. I was skeptical, but he lives there so... This place is great. The gun section is better than some dedicated gun shops I have visited lately. The guys I spoke to were great. Very polite and informed. Great Ammo selection at the time. The selection in the other departments is great, clean and very organized. If I lived in Winchester this would be my first choice for the items they carry. I wish we had this store closer to Ashburn! Giving one star because there's no option to give zero. I've contacted this store 5 times to talk about having a pellet stove installed in my home. I even drove a 60 mile round trip to go there to look at options. l left my phone number and email address and was told "someone would be in touch". I submitted all the required measurements and pictures I was asked for, never got a response. I followed up several days later, again, never got a response. I like the store but they do not adhere to Covid policies. I saw at least 9 employees and 5 were not wearing masks or social distancing. I had to walk past 4 of them , who were just standing shoulder to shoulder and talking to each other. I spoke to a manager ( by phone) and was told they follow the health guidelines but cannot enforce for some who may have health issues and cannot wear a mask. I find this implausible that practically 50 % of employees ( most looking to be maybe 18) have valid reasons for not wearing a mask. This is a crowded store with tight aisles and masks are more important than ever. read more

Normally a very helpful, but small hardware store. I went in today and not a single employee and all but one customer was masked. There is a statewide mandate from the governor, folks. Obviously this business doesn't give a shot about the welfare if their employees or their customers. I came into the store twice with issues with my chainsaw and even though they had a waiting period for most problems my comments made them realize that the issues I had would be a quick fix. They took care of it right then. They also took the time to install a new chain and sharpened my old chain so I would have a backup chain to use later. They were very friendly and professional. They have increased the store significantly to a gun store. I'm ok with that part as long as they keep their hardware side stocked and reasonably priced. Twice in the last month, I needed a specific type of ammo and was also looking for a rifle. The young salesman (two of them) at the gun counter are rude, arrogant and simply abrasive. I am a very experienced shooter and skilled hunter. I expect to be treated with respect as that is what I portray at the start of every customer service type scenario. Perhaps they were having a bad day. I don't think so. One was more interested in scrolling on his phone and the other had a personality of a conceited owners son. Use to be a good hardware store, did not mind paying extra to shop here. However, now it's a gun store that sells some overprice junk hardware. Prices are extremely marked up when they actually have stuff in stock, since their main business is selling guns not hardware. The owner should remove hardware from the sign and replace it with gun store. I used to love this store. I bought a pellet stove from here 6 years ago and have been having it maintained and serviced by the store every year since. This year they did the yearly maintenance in July and everything was fine. Fast forward to November and the first time we try to use it, it won't start. We had them out on Monday November 8 to fix it. They left and and when we tried to use it again on Thursday, November 11 it would not start again and a piece fell off. We called back and were told the earliest they could come out is sometime in December. We are really stressed as this our main source of heat. We called again and asked again if they could come out and we were informed we were on their "Do Not Service" list. I tried to call the owner and left a message asking to understand what happened (we were not rude or even upset jut stressed) and I have not received any call back. I am really sad because I used to love this store and now I feel like they don't care about their loyal customers. Very, very disappointing. read more

It is outrageous that at the time when doctors and nurses are risking their lives to save patients from deadly COVID and when 5 Americans die every few minutes at this peak of the pandemic (with two of my friends having lost their elderly parents to the disease within the last few months) that the management is callous enough to allow employees and customers mill about without any masks at all. Folks, I am not talking nosers or very ineffective neck gaters or bandanas, or a regular mask pulled down for some reason (none of which are good but at least show an effort to care for others' health), I am talking NO MASKS IN SIGHT. This store is normally a place I enjoy going but after today I will not be going until after COVID is over. I needed something for my stove today. I went in and three of the four employees I came in contact with were not wearing masks. Two of the three were young adults. I challenged them as to why and one of them pointed to a sign that said they weren't enforcing it if the customer wasn't wearing one, the other employee simply said she didn't like wearing them. WELL WHO DOES. That's not the point. I am all for small businesses however the owner and management of the store need to take more responsibility and take this situation seriously. I went in and purchased 4 bolts, 4 nuts and 8 washers to attach a foot board to a metal bed frame. Left the store, (mind you I can see the shopping center from my house) came home to get to work. Immediately noticed the bolts were to long. Placed every thing back in the bag, along with the receipt, and headed back to the store. Couldn't have been more then 10 to 15 minutes. Upon entering the store and seeing the same rude lady cashier (Tammy, I think her name is), I showed her my bag and said, I just need to exchange for shorter screws, she demanded the bag I was holding and I said ok.. I'm just gonna get the right size. Once I got back, she called for a manager, and made me feel as though I was trying to pull one over on them. Started to inspect each item, even the washers and nuts, that I didn't want to exchange or return. Then they proceeded to tell me that one of the screws was stripped and I wouldn't be able to exchange it... I didn't break the screw, I didn't even use the items. So if the screw was damaged, they handed it to me that way. Moral of the story, you got to keep your .89 cents in sales, but have lost 100's from me in the future. I will never support your local business, if you don't have the customer service to warrant it. I'm more than willing to pay a little more to support the community I live in, but not when you're that petty and rude. read more

I've been going here for years, always a loyal customer. This is the first time I've ever tried to return anything though. I had purchased a firearm part that I decided not to use. I had lost the receipt which I have discovered is like committing a felony to these people. So right off the bat they are looking at me like I'm up to something. I'm simply asking for an exchange not even a refund since I'm trying to meet them half way on this. They had to call the guy from the firearm counter to come inspect the part, who also acted like I was trying to get one over on them... after inspecting the part I was asked more questions about my purchase method and how long ago and why I didn't have a receipt. After he went to the back and was clearly disgusted by me trying to make this return they discovered I had apparently paid for the item with cash and that it was over 30 days ago. I don't understand how my method of payment had anything to do with being able to return the item. Further more, understanding the 30 day return policy, being as strange as it is, the part is still something they offer currently and was in perfect condition. Why they couldn't make any type of attempt to allow me to exchange it for something else is beyond me. None the less, even though I don't get their strict adherence to the crazy return policy, the part that bothers me the most is that they acted like I was wronging them deeply and that they had no intention of making this insane request happen even if they could. I'll happily take my purchases elsewhere but whatever you do, don't try to return anything without a receipt, especially a firearm part.... read more

Horrible customer service and not at all willing to work with customers. We try to shop locally and a few of the folks working there are nice and know what they're doing. However the store items were disorganized in sections. Cashiers were squabbling at each other. We purchased an item that was apparently on sale (hanging on wrong mislabeled hanger) and they refused to take it back. Even when I showed them where it was hanging and was not marked on sale / and that we did not know it was on sale, the manager refused to allow us to return it. He stated "the owner's policy is not to allow returns on sale items because we are cleaning out and remodeling." Then he walked away. I understand the service industry- have worked in it almost half my life. This is not the way to treat your customers or the folks in your neighborhood. Rethink your policies and how to treat folks if you want us to shop locally and not at the big home improvement stores. read more

We filed a case with Quadra-Fire and we are also in the process to get legal representation. This hardware store and it's service manager (Kyle) committed fraud. They replaced a part in our Pellet stove that did not need to be replaced (almost $600) and the stove is still broken. And then they said they would only come back to replace the most expensive part in the stove even two other Quadra-Fire dealers and Quadra-Fire itself said to not replace this part and to have the stove cleaned instead. Kyle then suggested to find somebody else and hung up the phone. I hope to get this vendor removed from the authorized dealer list since they clearly don't care about maintenance only about replacing parts unnecessarily. The also charge almost 30% more per part than QuadraFire themselves charge people. Don't do any business with this store. A fairly good hardware store with one irritating procedure. Providing a cashier with a credit card for your purchases is not sufficient, you must also hand over a drivers license for examination. This is the only store that I can recall doing this. Perhaps they once got ripped off and initiated this annoying policy. Its bothersome enough for me to generally shop elsewhere. read more

I went by store to ask about a chimney sweep, Miller Hardware said that hey did chimney sweep, and that their service dept would handle, after waiting 20 minutes for someone to help me was told next apt was 3-4 weeks out, I set up an apt with was for 12/26, call on 12/22 and confirmed my apt on 12/26. No one arrived I call and was told they stopped doing chimney and that they left me a message on 12/ 23, I found message @ 11:56am on 12/23 was a Saturday before Christmas store service closed on 12/24 and 12/25. Seem like this is the only help this shop can provide. while you are in the store you can not take 2 step without someone asking to help you and then when you tell them what you need, they drop the ball.. read more

I called and asked if they sharpened lawn mower blades and was told yes. I asked what the turn around time would be if I brought the mower in that day. I was told if I got the mower there early that they could have it back before 5 pm that day. I loaded the mower and took it right to the store. Three days later when I went to see if it was finished, I was told they had not looked at it yet but would probably get to it the next day. It was one week after I dropped the mower off that they called to say it was ready--and that a host of other things needed to be replaced on the mower. My wife approved the repairs since I was not home at the time. I picked the mower up and started it twice before the frayed cord snapped and rendered the mower useless. I did not take the mower back there, choosing instead to take it to a repair shop in Boyce. read more
