Exactly as all the reviews say prior to this one. The associates here are clearly misguided, not trained, unorganized, inexperienced, and have no apparent training. That right there is a reflection of the management that does not exist for what is supposed to be a Christian establishment. The store is good for getting essentials that you can find yourself. However, good luck finding an associate that can be useful and knowledgeable. I will not review the associates as it is not their fault. It is no one else's fault but the invisible managers here who should be disgusted with themselves for setting the associates up for failure and placing them in hazardous situations that can kill these young kids trying to be responsible and actually maintain a job in today's fallen world. No one picks up the phone. Associates do not help you on the floor. Employees are not knowledgeable of any merchandise of all categories. When we thought Lowe's in the bad parts of the state was the worst. Terrible that Rural King in the Front Royal area is beyond a disappointment. read more

Rural King is the best place to buy chicken food. We had to make the 50 mile trek to Front Royal because this location is the closest. I don't understand the low Yelp ratings because the store is neat and organized, the staff friendly and they have what I need. After picking up a bag of the complimentary fresh popcorn, we grabbed 10 bags of feed and some spray for the fruit trees. Then, I got the wild idea to make some pickles because I saw the huge display of canning supplies and we have cucumbers in the garden. I picked up the canning supplies I needed for the pickles. Check out is quick, easy and friendly. Prices are reasonable. My brother had to return a fitting that was the wrong size and they cheerfully refunded his money. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. I'm sure we'll be back when the chickens need more food. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with my experience. I was charged twice on 11/28/25, refunded for only one of those charges on 11/29/25, and then charged again on 12/2/25 without authorization. My bank is now disputing the charges and has flagged this activity as potential fraud. On top of that, I still have not received a return label, even though I need to return the item by mail. The lack of communication and accountability has been unacceptable. Because of these issues, I will be filing complaints with the BBB and my State Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. I hope this helps others be aware before ordering. read more

I live near the store and decided to visit on a whim, and because i wanted some popcorn. ;-) unfortunately, the popcorn was cold and nearly empty, but i'm not going to bitch when it is free. I was impressed with the brands and selection of both work, western and casual country core (is that a thing?) clothing. It wasn't cheap, but the quality was good. I would have gladly bought several items if my budget allowed. I discovered that my phone was missing when i got home and went back to find some honest person had turned it in to customer service. I'll join the 1 star crowd. Last night, 12/2/24, I filled an online cart with various items, then tried unsuccessfully for an hour to complete the purchase. I chose PayPal which wouldn't work, then my Visa card which didn't work either. I use both for years, never a problem anywhere...except Rural (King???). A chat box appeared so I tried that only to get a message I would receive an email and call which I never got. So this morning, 12/3/24, I tried their customer service number. What a joke! I was on hold 38 minutes before giving up. I had the same experience others had which is why their reviews are so bad. I called or closest store, 90 miles away, no manager but after 12 minutes got to speak to an assistant manager who said she "cringes with calls about online ordering" from so many problems. I tried corporate in Illinois which was lots of dead ends, never getting to speak to anyone. Out of exasperation I emailed RK asking to close my account and remove me from mailing list. RK has a good variety of merchandise and good prices. If they fixed their online site and ordering problems as well as answering their customer service phone calls we would consider returning. All RK corporate needs to do is check out Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply or any retailer to see how well their customer service is. RK is the absolute WORST!!!!! read more

RK is a southern retailer that has an eclectic basic merchandise offering. Everything from live chicks to firearms are available. They also have a decent Skill tools department. Friendly support staff who are accessible and responsive. And free popcorn!! read more

I drive 60 miles to get to this store. Customer service has never been an issue. Buying a fire arm takes time at any store in Virginia and these sales people are very helpful in the process. I especially appreciate when the customer service counter helps ring up customers waiting at the check out lines. If I could change one thing at Rural King is the bathrooms. Awesome store and good prices however half the people working the register are extremely slow. They always have one register open which should be manned so it doesn't back up the customer service counter who is constantly picking up the slack .... saying "I'll take the next". The gun section is horrific and so slow. The last gun I bought I had 1 person in front of me and his paperwork was already completed and after waiting in line for 30 minutes he said it will be 45 minutes before I get to you and if you want to buy the gun would be another 20 minutes on top of that. I learned my lesson to buy it on-line and have it shipped. I referred a friend their because the gun prices are very reasonable and they would not help him. They said go to Ace Hardware in Stephens City because they have similar inventory and close to the same prices. So I printed out the gun they have; and the price and they told him they couldn't get it. So I ordered it for him on Ruralking.com and it was in the store in 4 days. My latest experience at the gun counter I purchased 8 boxes of ammo and set them on the counter, he said they can ring you up, up front. I said what is this cash register here for and he said I could ring you up but I had a rough night and don't know what I'm doing yet. I said well I am only buying ammo so can you ring me up so I don't have to wait in the long lines? He said I guess. Love the inventory of the store and the prices but people working the gun counter are extremely lazy and the main checkouts is slow. The slow checkout isn't so much the fault of the cashier but they can open the other unmanned register. Plus if the people in the gun section didn't pawn the purchases to the up front cashiers would help as well. read more

My husband and I drive an hour to come to this store. Which may be a good thing; if it was closer I'd be there way too much, haha! They consistently come through in a clutch when NO WHERE else has certain parts or tools. The prices on chicken feed and supplies always beat any store closer to us. Customer service at the store is terrible...I brought my parents who were visiting from out of state and my dad wanted to check the belt buckles that were in a locked display...they did not want to help him...finally an employee comes to help and indicates that the buckle is too expensive for us to buy, so disrespectful and racist!!!! Went to buy a gun for Christmas the guy working was working his butt off with no help. Has to shut fire arms off for a hour while he gets his lunch break that the company demands them to take. This was a Sunday evening about 5pm. We was asked to come back another day because he had 2 in front of us to do paperwork for a gun then they was closing the department for lunch for a hour and they shut that department down at 730pm for the night. Should be at least 2 or 3 in that department this time a year. When we was leaving there was 4 employees standing around at check outs talking and doing nothing. Sale ads are usually misleading on items on sale, drove 50 miles for a Carhart jacket advertised only to find discounts only on T shirts and Beanies??? I have never seen so many bad reviews by a bunch of cry babies. There is a labor shortage if you haven't noticed and not just at Rural King. I wish their Front Royal store weas closer but I make the drive. Start a business people and hire your elite staff. It 's not happening. I own 3 businesses' and it is the same in farming,construction and restaurants. My neighbor owns a veterinary business and can't get vets, to the point that he has had to limit his practice to horses only. I get sick of seeing these reviews that bash businesses that work hard at trying to provide jobs and services. If you can do it better---Try it ! They are a sold 2 1/2 in my opinion. Reasons: Good: lots of stuff from cereal to clothing to guns and ammo, tools and more. Bad: quality on every single thing I have bought is super low! I bought 4 pair pants and all tip in exactly the same place, bought live chicks they die for no reasons (compared to other place with the same care that didn't die), boots just fall apart, onions didn't even grow. I'm not usually one to complain, even about bad service, but this went beyond my limits and then some. I visited this location with a friend the other day, looking for supplies for my hunting trip. The selection was fine, but I asked a salesperson for some help finding something and she blew me off! She said she was busy, and that I should be able to find it myself. I thought it was disgusting that an employee would treat customers like this. It got a whole lot worse. I've had bad service before, but this was on another level. I overheard her telling another employee that "n****ers are so dumb they can't find the door to leave." THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. This is 2019, racist comments like that ARE NOT OK. I have to assume since she still works there Rural King is fine with this. WELL I'M NOT. My friend has worked hard to overcome racism and THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I bought 6 chicks from them just last Saturday and one died within 2 days of getting them along with the another 2 3 days later. I have bought several chicks through the years from other places and never had this issue. I have heard people complain about buying chicks there, but I didn't listen and I'm learning the hard way. If I could give less stars, I would. We used to shop there all the time. Then in 2021, someone stole one of our chainsaws. I had to report it as stolen through the system and I went there to do that, and to see if they had a copy of the receipt. I'm sure I have it somewhere, but I thought they had it in the computer. The people who sold me the saw were still there and very helpful, but customer service was awful. They changed the computer system and so when Holly was looking through the limited records they had, she had the nerve to suggest we stole the saw we had purchased years prior. Those in the back where the saws are immediately said she does that, she's known to be nasty and that she's trying to get a manager spot, and she's difficult to work with. They told her I did not steal anything years prior or anytime. You can't get the warranty registered without proving you bought it. And I had a warranty card registered. Anyway, we started shopping there less because she's awful, but today, we went back. She literally gave my son a nasty look and she was just watching someone else work, not doing anything herself. I had complained about her after that accusation she made. Everyone agreed she was ridiculous. Because she was wearing a black shirt, my son thought she is a manager, something I was told she was aiming for and would treat people badly to get. I asked. Yep, she's an assistant manager, I was told. We won't shop there. We think she's just the worst. I spent thousands there and everyone working there knew it. We are told she treats employees badly too and they gave her a management job. Oh no. Last time I ever shop there. Better stores to get my business. Do better Rural King. She was awful at customer service and was known by the employees to be awful, but you promote her? Wow. We literally will not shop at Rural King again in Front Royal. By the looks of it, not many are. Not many customers were there today while we were there and what we went to look at was priced higher there anyway than it is everywhere else. Yesterday hubby and I made our annual trip to Rural King for our (usually) last big Christmas shopping adventure. This is store is over an hour drive for us but it was our destination fun shopping trip. We have absolutely LOVED this store ever since it arrived in Front Royal.... After tonight we have ZERO desire to return.... The store was FILTHY, there was boxed merchandise blocking everywhere marked for black Friday that had not been put out and in multiple ways making it virtually unshopable, empty shelves no staff working the freight (so no excuse for all the boxes) This isn't something that happened overnight or in a one case incident. The level of Filth and neglect in the store accumulates over time. There were ZERO women's clothing... Yes there were the usual young ladies clothes and sizes but nothing to appeal to or fit women, and almost no children's clothes, but a nice selection of men's and a TON of scrubs... there were no children's toy, (usually at least 4-5 aisles), and just was unpleasant, staff whining as well... That doesn't even get to check out.... We get to check out and the cashier was obviously miserable so we tried to make pleasant small talk... But lordy.... It rolled into her ranting and whining and focusing more on that than her job... So much so that I literally had to bag my own purchases.... This is normally one of our favorite date night outings. Just kind of bummed. I hope they are able to bring it around, we definitely need a good store like that. read more

This store is unbelievable. The bathrooms were gross. Probably hadn't been clean for a week. No hand soap, and hand sanitizer didn't work. Stood on line for 15 mins and got to cashier and she said she was only helping customer that was in front of me. read more

No one ever answers the phone and in store pick up orders take forever. Not blaming the employees, I'm sure they're over worked and short staffed. This even goes higher than store management. They can only work with what they have. The company needs to address these things and allow more employees or create more positions to handle things. Cashiers can't be trying to take care of the long lines of people and be expected to answer the phones, get the call to the appropriate person and handle everything in between. I actually feel really sorry for them. The result is a complete breakdown of efficiency and poor customer experiences. The higher management in this company are expecting too much out their employees and it is just bad business practice all the way around. I love the store but honestly hate the chaos that is always on the sidelines. read more

Today I went to rural king to get wood pellets for the stove and it was extremely busy. I only saw 3 bags so I decided to grab what was left. I was struggling a bit because I had my pup with me when the employee Tim came over and asked if I would like more of the pellet bags. He had more brought up and helped me load them in the truck. He also got tape to reinforce the bags that had holes. All the while many of the customers stop to say hi to him. He was also very friendly with my dog, which is unusual because my dog doesn't like most people but really loved Tim. I'm looking forward to going back knowing they have people like Tim that are around the help you. read more
