Miller Blueprint on 6th Street is a fun and useful local business best suited for engineers, surveyors, architects and artists. They say it best, so I'll let them - "Miller Blueprint has everything you need to design, duplicate, sketch, survey, paint, print and produce." It's true. I like Miller because it's small, it's personal, it's around the corner (6th St.; Metric Blvd.; and an office in San Antonio), and it smells good like new paper and art supplies. My boss tells me that they've built quite a reputation in Austin for being a reliable business with a quality product. Based on my visits, I would agree. I am not an artist, an engineer, or a designer. But I love to browse this store and every time I enter, I wish I had a more legitimate reason to buy their colorful markers, cool design tools, and interesting art supplies. Miller also has TOGO maps (for builders/developers/real estate pros), surveying tools, and reproduction and color printing. Strangely enough, they also offer Saturday art classes for beginners. Niiice. Park in their private lot or at a street meter. Kind, patient, helpful staff. Miller Blueprint Co. is definitely worth a visit. read more

To start I had a garbage experience overall at this establishment. I have seen better customer service at McDonald's for sure. I would never recommend anyone go here and I will personally never use their services again. This revolves around the scanning and printing of 6 pencil drawings. There is a longer story of course but ultimately I was charged over $50 for prints that were not done correctly. There was a terrible lack of communication between the staff and therefore there were multiple problems with my prints (which had taken two weeks to have done). When I addressed the issue at checkout Miller instead of accepting responsibility Miller then tried to blamed me. This was insulting and ridiculous as there were colors in my pencil drawings (yellows, pinks, and reds) They also seemed to have no idea what they were doing in general as these were simple mistakes. I personally could have done better had I had the same equipment. In fact the only reason I was using them is that they had multi thousand dollar printers. They begrudgingly agreed to redo the prints (6 pencil drawings). I was never notified that the prints had been completed. Two weeks later I showed up and they tried charging me another $80 (which I refused and had to show my receipt). Lastly they never sent me the scans of my images to my email address which they said they would do. **Please save yourself the headache. read more

So if you are in the market for tube watercolors and watercolor papers, colored pencils, prestretched canvas, brushes, calligraphy supplies, fabric paints, and pastels. I visited last week and bought 12 new watercolors for the cost of 2 lunches at Firebowl whereas in the past they would have cost the equivalent of a dinner at Flemings. Drawings into t-shirts, yes. Today I took small India ink life drawing nudes to Miller Blueprint to make into transfers. They copied the drawings onto transfers, I arranged several on their T-shirts and they pressed the images onto the t-shirts for $15 per shirt. So, I got the transfers, the processing, and the shirts for $15.00 each. This is a proof of concept idea to be developed later. I was very pleased with the professional and individual service from Karla in the large copying department. Now I'm a walking art show of myself. read more

This is a really great place to get art supplies from. They also stock things for engineers and cartographers. It is a very unique place and you can have a bit of fun in here just window shopping. Really nice people! I live within walking distance of a national chain that does printing and shipping, and they've never done me any favors. "Fed" up with the impersonal service there, I went searching for a local printer, and came across gleaming reviews of Miller Blueprint right here on yelp. I phoned, expecting to spend the majority of the afternoon on hold, being juggled by a robot phone system, explaining myself over and over to each unsuspecting soul who picked up my call in turn. I was happily surprised to speak to a real, live person in downtown Austin. In fact, I spoke to three, and since they all actually communicate with one another, I never had to repeat myself! I was shocked when Lucy Miller herself took my call, considered my job, and helped me out. Wow. Mr. Kinko never made me feel that important. read more

Over the past 5 years that I have lived in Austin, I've had a lot of printing done for me at Miller Blueprint, from wedding invitations to art prints to lookbook pages. I always come back to this place regardless of whether or not there are better prices elsewhere because the customer service is excellent, and the products are quality. Ian (in the downstairs printing department) is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and responsible. He's gone above and beyond numerous times for me when I've brought in all kinds of crazy things for him to copy and print, including layers of fabric and tracing paper taped together. I never had a hint of a bad attitude from him no matter what I asked him to do. Something I found really funny is that for a while another guy worked with him who was, sadly, pretty terrible at his job, and Ian would rush in any time the other guy started helping me to save my project from doom. I don't think the other guy is there anymore. I would say I've only ever gotten good quality products from Miller. I was always shown proofs before approving a big printing order so I could request any changes to the colors if needed. A couple people had negative reviews here, and I would just like to say that though Miller has perhaps made some mistakes over the years, I'm pretty certain that if you brought up your problem with them, they would make it right. read more

shout out to Dana Burton and Larry Miller! these two employees in particular need a raise! :) first of all I drive all the way across town in austin traffic haha to get my work done here. that says a lot! why? because of the insanely cool interesting people who work here and because of the stellar quality of work they produce. Dana Burton is by far the best at fine art print production artist I have ever seen.  We have done so much work together, she is so client centered, AND LISTENS to whatever crazy idea I have, that she can actually anticipate what I will want.  it's appreciated, super cool and I cant thank her enough.   also Larry Miller at the front desk is the master people person/concierge. he could charm a cobra and makes everyone feel welcome in a very sincere way. the dude is like a poet or something amazing in his free time. :) everyone I have ever interacted with there is also super nice. ignore the doofus who left one star review after a single trip to miller. We had a wonderful experience with Ryan Bruce and staff of Miller. Our offices moved a few weeks ago, and we needed to replace all of the vinyl art on the walls, which was a pretty big project as we also wanted to use original artwork & photos, and our turnaround time was fairly fast. Ryan Bruce was very responsive and knowledgeable, and came by to do walks of the space in a timely manner - his commitment to quality and attention to detail made the process a breeze. They were incredible! I had a last minute print job because the place I originally ordered my prints had to cancel since all their color printers were down. Miller ID was Awesome! They helped me over the phone and even comped me my prints since I had to wait 2 minutes for them when I got there. I would have gladly paid for them. I've done some printing and binding here, and my experiences have been less than stellar. While the service is good, with friendly, helpful people throughout, the actual final products have been sub-par. My prints have turned out darker than they should be, which is frustrating since you lose many essential details. Furthermore, their prices are inconsistent. Unless they recently changed their policies, I got charged for a new "set-up" fee for a job that I had done before. On top of that, the actual job was a different price also. Distrustful may be the wrong word here, but something's off. read more

First off, we're an established architecture firm that has moved our office to Austin. We were looking for a new printer. The first two jobs were both poor quality, poorly organized, and VERY late delivery. The staff (for the most part) was friendly except for Barbara & Ramona at the downtown location. I was in a situation where I needed some images printed and a friend of mine (thankfully) suggested that I shop local and, in particular, at Miller Blueprint. I am very glad I did because my overall experience was great. There were some minor technical difficulties but Tim was very polite and helpful the entire time. I appreciated his creative opinions when it came to printing/cropping/cutting the images that I had printed. Larry and Lisa (I think those were their names) were very sweet and helpful as well. It is tragic to see that good customer service is a thing of the past . . . except at Miller Blueprint!!! I couldn't believe it today when I went in there looking for a display boar which they did not have, and the person I asked AND another person who was just walking by both went to GREAT lengths to help me find what I needed at OTHER businesses in Austin! They went out of their way to help me get what I needed. They called another business for me and even printed out a map to that business once we confirmed they had what I was looking for. I know these two employees were busy because I'd seen them taking care of other business when I walked in. Most places would hVe blown me off once I asked for something they didn't have. I was blown away by the level of customer service provided by Miller Blueprint. Their downtown location has free parking on the side of the building. I keep going back to Miller because of the great customer service. Yes, I could have uploaded my recent print job to an online service but I wasn't sure about the trim size and whether I'd left enough room for a border. Try finding that out with an online service. It was well worth the short drive to Miller's new location to have Caleb look it over and make a couple of suggestions. I left knowing that I'd get what I wanted at a fair price. I've been doing business with Miller for more than 20 years. I've dealt with several different printers and sales people and can honestly say every single one of them has been a pleasure to work with. I have NEVER been disappointed with a job from Miller. It says something about the quality of the ownership when I see the same employees there for five years or more, and those employees are good at their jobs and great with customers.
