Once upon a time, this was the Wind Mill Diner. I visited there almost daily for many years. When the family found their children weren't interested in taking over, they sold it to owners of another Greek diner in Newtown CT. Most of the employees stayed, and new ones were added. It was made clear to the new owners that this was not a transient diner, easy off easy on, but instead a restaurant where the majority of patrons were regulars. The menu stayed mainly the same. Then they began to redo the place and make it into an obviously "DINER" look - steel, lots of red lights, half the counter cut away, mural of Italy on the wall demolished to make room for many, many windows. I didn't like it but oh well. The people were nice, the food was still the same. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter, who lives in Branford, told me that the place had been sold again to the owners of a couple of Greek diners down near the coast. I had been to one of them and I wasn't impressed. I asked a manager if it was true and he said it was. I asked if there would be many changes - he said not for a while. But last week there was suddenly a new menu, and tonight I found that a staple fish sandwich I ALWAYS ate is no longer available. The menu is not easy to follow - hard to find things you knew you liked. Prices are higher. Service has degenerated - spilled coffee on the floor not wiped up, tables not cleaned off, wait staff (many new) unable to get the order right. Transients can come if they want to. I hope regulars stay away from now on. read more

We have come here many times and have never experienced something like this. Disgusted beyond belief. The staff here is so kind and the owner is BEYOND rude. He just yelled at a waitress for helping an elderly lady try to find her 1955 class ring. When I told him he was out of line, he yelled at me. I reminded him that I was the customer and he was being disrespectful. My son didn't like that he was yelling at the waitress. I asked if he was the owner and he said yes. I told him he shouldn't speak to his employees this way, when all she was trying to do was help and he told me he didn't care. I told him he should, I am a customer and I care, and my 11 year old was hearing and seeing him yell at her. He didn't care what I thought. Unreal! The staff was super nice. Hey owner (I think John)... My husband works for a huge company up the street... You just lost their business and 1600 friends on Facebook (700 local), all know how rude you are now. When I was leaving and paying my check, he said thank you. I said don't thank me, you were rude. He told me that I didn't know the whole story. I told him that it didn't matter, he made it our business when yelling and my son was bothered by it. I told him he was acting like a shmuck... guess what, he told me I was a shmuck. Then I used a word that I am not proud of, but I Was SOOOO upset. He never once felt the need to just apologize. read more

A complete 360 change from the diner in New Milford. Fast efficient service. Friendly servers and check out register people. Food is better, service is MUCH better... and they are always happy to see you, seat you, and serve you right away! Avoid New Milford Windmill and take the extra trip. Nice little diner. Went in for a bit of breakfast after some mall shopping. I know it's hard to mess up breakfast, and it's not a great barometer of a place, but they did a good, fast job with it. The waitress was great. Everything was wonderful. Nice place for a good, quick meal. read more

My husband and I were passing through town on a New England road trip and felt like some diner food. This place is conveniently located right off a main road with designated entrance/exit zones. Plenty of parking and a handicap ramp entrance as well. It was a Sunday around 4:30-5:00 and there were maybe 5 or 6 tables filled. We were seated immediately and greeted by our waitress within a few minutes. We both ordered burgers-med. rare, and gravy fries. The burgers come with the usual toppings plus a split roasted green pepper, cole slaw and a pickle. Pretty good deal for the money. It took less than 10 minutes for us to receive our orders and they were cooked as requested. The food was good. The waitress was nice and attentive without hovering. Mill Plain Diner - Greek omelet with home fries and English muffin - New American Near Me - Danbury, Connecticut

This was probably the worst dining experience I've had since I've moved to Danbury. 1. Waiter refused to substitute ham for bacon which were offered for the same price in the sides (not a huge problem) 2. Waiter didn't know the windmill breakfast which is essentially their breakfast special every diner has. Had to read it off the menu to know what was in it. 3. Waiter brought pancakes and eggs with a hair laying right on top 4. Waiter did not include sausage on the plate and asked me that's included in the meal?? 5. Waiter brought cold potatoes that didn't taste good either 6. The sausage though small, tasted pretty good 7. The owner or managers collecting money at the front were told it was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in the 2 years I've lived here. They seemed disinterested while asking why and said sorry. Very clear they didn't care. read more

I write fair reviews. If you question that, go back and read my other ones. One star, Period. This is the worst place I've eaten in at least 5 years. The food was awful, and when it got there, it was barely edible. The worst Turkey Club I've ever had and that's my go-to quick diner order. The bar b que sauce was gross. The food took forever to come and the waitress had to constantly be signaled for..... and there was barely anyone there. The guy sitting at the table next to us was mid-argument about how bad his dinner was. All the fried stuff was too dark, which means the oil is dirty. Here is the clincher though.... The owner has decided to do this weird thing with the bill. If you pay on a debit/credit card, the manager comes back to the table, asks you if you are going to tip on the card, then wants you to figure out the tip and adjust the bill before he swipes. Rather than swipe then they come back and you add the tip on, total and sign. He then cashed out my overage and tipped the waitress right in front of me. That is embarrassing and is not supposed to happen. I just wanted to get out of there or I would have refused to do it. Do not eat here. Well I went to wind mill today and was very disappointed with not only the service but also the food. We ordered an appetizer which finally came with our lunch. The waitress screwed up the order. I got a Ruben with 4 pieces of corn beef all the sauerkraut was on one side. The meat was extremely tough. The fries were cold. The cheesy tater tots were good but not to cheesy. The waitress never came back to check on us. Was more wore about making it on time to a birthday. Might be time to find a new place to eat. read more

We ordered 40 wraps and sandwiches to feed a team after their game. Dwain was AWESOME to work with. He handled our dietary restrictions, and preferences, without a blink. I have an experience worth sharing. It happened tonight here at Mill Plain Diner. You'll enjoy this, and my story will prepare you for a one-of-a-kind rudeness that may befall you if you visit this place. First, a quick comment about the food. All we had were omelets, but they were nothing special. Priced decently though. Tasteless home fries. (They were closing on a Sunday night at 11 and we got there around 10:15.) My whole wheat toast was pretty awful and had what seemed like tasteless fake butter on it. The waitress was friendly and kind, but there was some older female manager (or host) that asked me to pay so she could close out the register. No problem. I gave her my card and she asked if I wanted to leave a tip on it. The bill was about $17, so I told her $4, which is about a 25% tip. Because I literally hadn't slept in two days, I was delirious and used the phrase, "a nice four dollars," when asked how much. When I said the word "nice" I was just trying to say that the waitress was great and nice, but it came out a little funny, I admit. SO, here's what happened next: the older manager woman, who spoke Spanish mostly, suddenly starts making fun of me to the waitress a few feet away, mockingly repeating the phrase "nice four dollars." She went on and on with it, probably wanting my friend and me to hear it. I just remained quiet and allowed this crazy woman to rudely make fun of me and my 25% tip. THEN, as if that weren't bad enough, she decided to really make sure her rude behavior hit its mark. She returned to our table, gave me back my card and said DIRECTLY to my face, "I added your NICE four dollar tip" in a mocking tone while smiling. She then immediately spoke Spanish over her shoulder to her associate at the bar. The English was just for me, and she wanted to really mock me to my face, even though I gave a 25% tip. Granted, $4 is nothing much, considering the bill was small, but it was still a good tip, and we were easy customers who were really pleasant throughout our time there. Even after she mocked us jeeringly, we were quiet in return. I just didn't understand why she insisted on being so rude, and directly to us no less. Who does this? I cannot possibly return after this experience, because this woman appears unstable, and I don't know if she or her staff would spit in our food. And it says something about the owner and management. So, if you want to be openly derided for giving a 25% tip and saying something a little silly because you're sleep deprived, this is the place for you. My God, never again. read more

I have been going to the windmill diner since the early 2000's miss the old owners the staff was great, granted I haven't experienced anything from the new owners yet. Today I got a whole new experience from a member of wait staff who used to serve us all the time. She said "Oh no!" Clear as day the two men don't say a thing just stand there looking for a place for us to sit. We get seated but just couldn't believe it we've been going there for over 15 years. I have a friend visiting from out of town and I brought them here for a nice breakfast on a Sunday for a terrible dining experience. The diner is wide open we were seated in the way back and sat there for 15 minutes and not one person came over to bring us water ask us what we wanted. Food was bad, my husband had pulled pork and it was pure fat. The place was dirty and was in desperate need of a paint job and some bleach. Where we were seated they had stained glass dividers and the rail under them has about A half inch of dirt. The breakfast omelets are great, the thing I liked was that they were loaded, I mean the Farmer omelette was full of meat, every bite had cheese. The coffee was OK, the cookies were not what I expected they were more like scones then cookies. I did not have the waffles but they looked GREAT. It's just a grilled American cheese with chips n a pickle. Just what you wanted and expected. Listen, you want cruelty-free Curried Masala meatballs slathered in Korean/Moroccan BBQ sauce on a bed of wild-foraged Pan-Asian quinoa and sprinkled with toasted antique barn door slivers, go down to the City for that crap. $39.95. Silverware extra. And I would remind you, this place is LOCAVORE folks!! LOCAVORE!!! We have missed the classic diners that reside mostly in the Northeast. Our breakfast was excellent. The veggie omelet had just enough veggies and the homefries had the right amount of crunch. The pancakes were perfectly cooked and scramble eggs were cooked as requested. Our coffee was exceptional because it was not burnt or bitter! My wife and I had breakfast here on Wednesday, 12/26/12. I had 2 eggs over easy, ham, English muffin, home fries and coffee. My wife had scrambled eggs, toast, home fries, and coffee. Our orders were easy and should be perfect. Unfortunately, my wife had a large egg shell in her eggs and the home fries tasted like they were sitting in the grill for hours. FOOD POISONING! My Fiance and I went here last night. We've been there quite a few times, food has always been sub par but its cheap and portions are good. Last night was a different story. My fiancé got VIOLENTLY sick last night after eating a chicken wrap from here. She was up all night throwing up and with Diarrhea. We almost ended up going to the emergency room. A relative took me to their favorite after church breakfast place. I shared some of the poor reviews but off we go. Our group of four was seated in about ten minutes as they were very busy. Probably another ten for a waitress and almost 30 minutes for food. Even a busy breakfast place should be able to pump food out quicker than this. House made corned beef hash was lacking in flavor.
