This is a nice diner. Clean and modern. Nice people at the counter and good service. In two visits I've had the moussaka for lunch and the hash and eggs at breakfast. The moussaka was good. A nice portion and well seasoned. The hash is another story. I'm always looking for good homemade hash and this was promised to be that. Expensive at $13 but should be worth it. I even confirmed "homemade" with the waitress. There's no way it's homemade! How do I know? Because it looks and tastes EXACTLY like the stuff I get out of a can. Minuscule pieces of meat and superfine diced potatoes with a mushy consistency. The canned stuff I make at home is actually better because I grill it to a nice crust. read more

Avoid this one like the plague. Iceberg lettuce the primary green in my Cobb salad. No vinaigrette offered or available, only a blue cheese dressing goop (attached picture here) Rubbery chicken inedible (cheapest chicken at BJ's no doubt), no avocado, no bacon, not a Cobb salad, more like a blob salad. Over ripe cherry tomatoes. Yuck! Wifey had a wrap with fries. Classic brand ketchup (picture attached). To cheap for Heinz, thenketchup gold standard, even at diners. Tea without side tim hot water, just a little cup. Had to ask for more hot water when the server, who spoke only a little English, stopped in the table area. Last, when you pay, the guy at the counter asks if you want to leave the tip on your credit card which of course most people do. Then he ask how much and you have to verbally tell him. This is a classic diner with a great menu. I got a chicken fajita health bowl with riced cauliflower, quinoa and edamame which was delicious. There's also the option to have this with brown rice so be sure to ask for the riced cauliflower, quinoa and edamame. The staff was very friendly, always made sure our water glasses were full and checking on our meals. The seating was very comfortable and there was background music playing. My friends got seafood platter (fish Friday special) and meatloaf dinner which they were very happy with. read more

Haven't been here for a while. This used to be my go-to, tried and true Diner, and I'm saddened to say my experience today was awful! First, I will say my waitress was lovely and attentive. The food however was simply bad. Ordered a Greek omelette....the serving was small (only used 2 eggs?) the feta cheese was lacking, spinach tasted like it was barely thawed frozen and tomatoe pieces were way under-ripe. Side of hash browns were barely warm and the toast was cold. My friend had French toast with a sunny side egg, which he labeled as being just eh! I have been a regular at the Mill Plain Diner for some time. Until today, I have always been pleased with the service. Today I forgot my wallet. I apologized profusely and offered to call with a credit card number as soon as I got home in approximately twenty minutes. Imagine my surprise when the default reaction was to threaten me with the police. I made an honest mistake, I offered to rectify it immediately, and that's how I'm treated. The manager (I believe her name was Camilla) refused to take the card over the phone. I explained that I need to leave for JFK shortly and did not intend to miss my flight. How many restaurants can't accept a credit card over the phone? What a way to treat a regular customer. I will never set foot in that place again after being treated so poorly. read more

My First Time At This Diner and so far everything is great. My husband and I decided to stop here for breakfast. I was greeted with warm and friendly Hello's when we walked through the door. My daughter and I went to the Mill Plain Diner for the first time yesterday, before heading to the nearby Danbury Fair Mall. It was such a pleasant and tasty experience I had to write this review. Mill Plain Diner (formally known as Windmill Diner I guess) has solid diner food. The service was good and the food was good. I had the meatloaf and my wife had the gyro. The gyro was actually very tasty, and they put it on some of the softest pita bread. The meat was so-so but the tzatziki sauce was good. The meatloaf came with a multiple choices for options. I had the French fries and the butternut squash, and both were good.... not GREAT but good. Bottom line, this place had a home cooked feel to it and the service was given to us with a smile. It may not be 5 star cuisine, but this place is a-ok in my book. If you're looking for a place to go for dinner, and you're reading this review. I would tell you to give it a try, support a local business, and go with the expectation of getting some solid diner food and fair prices. read more

We were there this past Sunday am for breakfast. The staff were friendly and professional. We were pretty early so the place was less than 1/2 full. The food came out pretty quickly- the hot items were hot and the cold ones were cold. Everything was perfectly as expected. I had an egg white omelette with veggies and sausage. It was absolutely fine. No problems. My wheat toast was crispy and buttery. I also ordered some corn beef hash that was average at best. My file ordered oatmeal with berries and brown sugar. The bowl was huge. - she liked it, it was very good and the fruit was fresh. We also split another bowl of fresh berries that were great. I didn't try one but all the baked goodies looked great. This was a pleasant breakfast at a local diner. I wasn't expecting white tablecloth service and. Prices and didn't get them either. I read through many of the negative reviews and wondered if people are expecting more than what can be offered. If I'm in the area again I would definitely stop in. read more

First of all, the owner of this place needs to get his priorities in order. I was working an overnight, and had stopped at Starbucks to get a venti iced vanilla latte to keep me going for the next shift. The young girl at the front notified me that they have a no outside drinks policy. I said should I leave? She said "for next time" as anyone with a paying customer would logically reply. She sat me, and I ordered. I asked the owner for hot sauce, which they do not have. They only offer Tabasco, which I don't prefer but had to accept. He looked at me and my Starbucks drink, like I had committed a mortal sin. With disgust and pity, he reiterated that there are no outside drinks allowed. I again replied, "should I leave?" With my food that just arrived on the table. He looked with distaste and again emphasized robotically "no outside drinks" "I will get you a cup to put it in," which he never did. He then scolded the young woman working for him for apparently letting me in. As a paying customer, this is really not normal behavior. I think the owner of this establishment needs to work things out and ask himself "why are you really so scared of outside drinks and what did they ever do to you?" Also, please offer your customers real hot sauce (franks red hot or cholula) won't be going back here anytime soon. read more

We've been going to this diner for many years. Recently the owners changed and it's clearly gone down hill. The last three times we've been there the orders are completely wrong. We specifically ask for no tomatoes due to allergies and yet they seem to make it on to every order. Take out is no better. They rarely pick up the phone and when they do, it is answered with an attitude. Clearly not the level of customer service that would make you want to buy there. We stopped in on Dec 27th while traveling north on I-84. We lived in the Danbury area a few years ago and the Diner has been renovated and updated. The place is much brighter. I could also appreciate new management who - despite being understaffed and with a very steady stream of customers - chipped in to bus and set tables and manage the waiting customers. We had a very nice lunch with soup and sandwiches - BLT, Tuna Melt and Chicken Salad. The sandwiches were huge. The Sourdough bread was fresh and sliced thick. Everyone enjoyed their meal. It did take a little while to get our food but the place was packed with holiday groups and travelers getting off of I-84. Our server was very friendly, explained the kitchen was slammed and thanked us for our patience. I thought the staff handled the crowd very well. Managers at the front really help. A good place to stop if I-84 N is heavy. Take Exit 2 to Mill Plain Rd. You can get back on I-84 further up at Exit 4 by going right out of the parking lot - Mill Plain turns into Lake Ave Ext to Exit 4. read more

So normally me and my friends, as well as family come here, but today the service sucked, the waitress forgot about us, and she messed up the order, she brought all the food out at once. We had ordered an appetizer and it came with the food! My omelette was not what i ordered and my father ordered a rueben and it sucked, the meat was as stiff as a board, there was only 3 pieces of meat, the sour kraut was on one side instead of spread out.. Slow service, inattentive staff, average food. And, the biggest travesty: they use WHITE American cheese. EVERYONE, and I do mean EVERYONE, knows that the proper color for American cheese is YELLOW. So I was in the area I live in Bethel I decided to go to Mill plain Road and try the wonderful food that I had years ago with my wife so we walk in and we get stared down with out no one saying hi good morning or any nice introduction just straight up you cannot bring any drinks in here me and my wife were in the works of thinking what to eat so we had gotten Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee's and didn't finish them and walked in the diner with them I believe that's not right when I had asked the lady any specific reason why she tells me that's just our policy I respect it and I understand but at least be nice about it!!!You guys will definitely not be seeing my money ! read more
