130 lb watermelon on display grown by the owner's son

Food quality / price (value) 10. The atmosphere is typical Connecticut diner, clean, modern, with well trained staff, and an owner that's usually present and obviously cares about his business. Consistency is king in the restaurant business, and this past year (and about 10 visits) have proven consistent. This is a new owner since 2024, and there is definitely improvement. Diners have had it tough since Covid, and several are still just "getting by", while this place continues to gain market share. Ignore the rare one star review, as they're typically old reviews written by people that give more one atar reviews than the sum of all their other reviews, a real telltale sign of "ax grinding" due to their own biases. I've had nothing but great experiences here for the past year!

Great little diner located close to our hotel. Large portions and very friendly service...Linda was TERRIFIC! We may never be back this way again as we're just passing through the area, but would recommend Stony Hill Diner to anyone!

Praline French Toast, at Stony Hill Diner in Danbury, CT.

Ate breakfast at Stony Hill Diner early this morning. I ordered the full stack of the Praline French Toast w/ a side of sausage. Meal came out very quickly. Was decent French Toast, not as good as my wife's at home, but for a diner, I was satisfied. Not much more to say other than I'd stop in again to Stony Hill Diner if I was in the area. A solid 4 Star Rating.

Burger to go. Which made me have breakfast there the next morning.

Sad to see another place has closed its doors…read more The Dagwood Burger was definitely a great burger and the Sycamore Drive-In had a cool vibe and a friendly staff. I wish all involved the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Seating is tight: 75 patrons is just about right. Selections include good specials like the BBQ Grilled Cheese with chicken strips topped with bacon, with onion rings on the side. They are also known for their famous Dagwood Burger & classic Steakburger. Service was good on a packed Saturday. The place certainly has character, and maybe a tad more hip than your local burger joint. The real draw is a classic car show on Saturdays, where you will see classically restored collector automobiles in near pristine, showroom condition, while Bobby Darin or The Champs' "Tequila" plays over the loudspeakers. The advertising says it's 5p-8p, but I saw some people driving out their antique cars as early as 7:15p. The only issue I had was that our check had no prices, and we had to bring a copy of the original order to the front register. If you don't have a rough idea of how much your order was, you can easily get overcharged before leaving.

No more. I've given up on this place. I went a few times in the past and it was "good enough."…read moreUnfortunately, the two most recent times I walked out very frustrated. Today, I ordered Crab Cakes Benedict and as they were being brought to the table I smelled a strong fishy smell and I have a weak sense of smell. I took one bite and lo and behold, it tasted off. I let them know and asked for just regular Eggs Benedict. She asked if I wanted Canadian Bacon and I asked for other options, and decided on regular bacon. I waited a little bit and they brought it out with Canadian Bacon, not regular bacon, I was about to just take it off and eat it but the girl realized her mistake and said she would fix it. By the time they brought out the "third" version we barely had any time left. It comes time to pay and the bill has Crab Cakes Benedict $20. I mentioned it to the server because what I ate was cheaper and she said "the kitchen told me to charge you that." Excuse me?! You mean the fishy, old crabcakes that could have gotten me sick? Not to mention the inconvenience of waiting. I honestly couldn't believe the audacity. Also, SHAME ON THEM for trying to get away with that--what about someone else that doesn't notice or just acquiesces to not be a bother. Also, two weeks prior when we went, we were about 50% done with our meal and my young daughter suddenly had to use the restroom--I left my keys on the table and smiled at the servers on our way to the bathroom. I come back and our food was thrown out and my keys were at the hostess stand. Really?? They offered to remake the food after the fact but I had to get my daughter to school and we didn't have time. Never again Edit to add my response to the owner's reply: Ron, I'm happy for you and your crab cake business. I love crab cakes which is why I ordered them--there's absolutely no reason for me to not eat them after ordering. To reiterate, within the first bite, I noticed they tasted off, smelled off too--I didn't care to chance food poisoning. In your reply to my review, your accusation that I'm "trying to hurt a small business" is an interesting, if not telling choice of language and one that's quite incendiary. I posted my review on Google & Yelp, the two places that I use for reference. It's curious that you view this as an attempt to essentially dismantle your business. Review systems were put in place so that people can share their experiences and that is exactly what I have done.
