I explained his situation and asked if he could be seen at this office. OVER THE PHONE, I WAS TOLD, "YES, WE CAN." The reason why we did this emergency visit was because my son was scheduled next week with his doctor but he was sensitive to it this whole day. When we arrived, we AGAIN explained that he is autistic and nonverbal, and we were told that he could be seen. We went through the exam for ONLY his two front teeth and then waited ABOUT 15-20 minutes in the room for the doctor. Only AFTER all of that, Dr. Manon Bersier comes in and says, "Awww, we can't service him because we don't have straps. Is it hurting?" I explained that YES, it is bothering him and that because he is autistic and sensitive to things like this, he was clearly distressed. She then asked AGAIN, "But does it hurt?" MY SON IS NONVERBAL. He cannot verbally tell you, "Yes, my tooth hurts." He was crying, visibly uncomfortable, and showing signs that he was in pain. Those are the signs I have to rely on as his mother to understand what he is communicating. After all of this, we were told that they could not treat him and were essentially denied service -- BUT THEY STILL TOOK THE $79 CHARGE. So let me understand this: I called ahead, explained his disability and his needs, was told that YES, he could be seen, brought him in, explained it AGAIN when we arrived, waited, had him examined, and THEN we were told that his autism was the very reason you could not provide the service? WHY WAS THIS NOT EXPLAINED TO ME WHEN I CALLED? This was an unnecessary waste of our time and, more importantly, an extremely frustrating and upsetting experience for my son. I did my part as his mother by calling ahead and making sure you were able to accommodate him. I was given the wrong information and then still charged $79 after you were unable to provide the service. DO BETTER. Families with autistic and nonverbal children should not have to go through this after specifically calling ahead and explaining their child's needs. This felt incredibly unfair and misleading. SCAMMERS.

You really are family here. Diane has been cleaning my teeth since before she had kids, and now she's got a handful. It's great coming here every 6 months for a cleaning and catching up like we saw each other just last week -- quite the memory. Luckily, I haven't had too many issues with my teeth. Doc did have to perform a procedure one time, and I was impressed how efficient and directive he was. He runs a tight ship -- gives great neck massages too (I suppose he's looking for any swelling). Let me…read morestart by saying I've been seeing Dr. Okihiro for almost 20 years, that should give you an idea about how I feel about his level of service and expertise as a dentist. That being said I would hate to have to find another dentist because the office fails to communicate proactively and productively. Prior to my last visit I was given a quote for a crown, which would have been a two part visit, one visit to prep, the next visit to solidify the crown. Upon the completion of my first visit I made a payment which was higher than I expected it to be. Curious, I asked what would my final payment be after my second visit and I was told an amount which was about 4 times more than what I was expecting. It was explained to me that my insurance wouldn't be covering the service so I would be responsible for the full amount. To say I was shocked was an understatement, I wanted to cancel my next appointment. The office admin encouraged me to keep the next appointment and maybe work out a payment plan with the office manager. I waited for a call from the office manager that never came, instead a received a text message that reads as follows: "Hi XXX, due to circumstances, we are unable to keep your appointment on (insert date here), if you were planning on going through with the crown. We will be cancelling that appointment until you are ready to reschedule it or if you ever want to reschedule it. Thank you and have a great day!" I called the office twice and received their voicemail. I did not leave a message. I replied to the text asking to have their office manager call me. I have not received a call back. A simple phone call to let me know the price had changed, when they found out my insurance wouldn't cover the appointment, would have been extremely helpful. Instead they wait until my first appointment was completed to tell me the price had changed and they didn't volunteer the information, I had to ask. Very poor communication on their part and no accountability. I'm very disappointed.

I don't remember the Dental Hygienist's name who cleaned my teeth but she kept me entertained while she cleaned my teeth. I didn't feel a thing and it was a completely relaxing experience. I can remember the days of dreading to have my teeth cleaned. I actually had a hygienist who said "No pain. No gain." That couldn't be farther from the truth at Dr Lum's office!

This was never told to me before from my long time dentist. I was unable to schedule an appointment for all 4 of us the same day because of the availability of dental hygienist but we were able to get us scheduled 2 at a time a couple weeks apart initially. Unfortunately a couple weeks after scheduling I got a call that my daughter and I would have to have our appointments pushed back to a couple weeks after my husband and son because one of their hygienist wouldn't be in. I was annoyed at first but because we were able to be scheduled a week and a half after my husband and son I didn't mind. Come appointment day I was very pleased with the office space and staff. Everyone was very nice and the office was clean and comfortable. Dr. Lum took all of 5 minutes with me after the hygienist cleaned my teeth but I didn't mind because I didn't have any questions or concerns. This place is amazing!…read more I found Gentle Dental after having a horrible experience with another dental office (I left in tears), so I was a little anxious about coming in. First off the front desk staff were so helpful and kind, even when talking to them on the phone. You can tell they have genuine care for their patients. I also was running late to my appointment and they still told me to just come in and they can see what they can do. Most places arent so accomodating. When I arrived they were so friendly and really helpful whem it came out to figuring out insurance. While waiting in the office I was fortunate enough to witness them interacting with a few other patients. They were very friendly and personable with each of their patients, and even when there was a patient who was expressing their frustration pretty sternly, the staff remained very kind, understanding, and respectful. This immediately eased a lot of my nerves because I could tell I was somewhere where they really care about helping their patients. I was taken in by Jermaine and she did my xrays. Another big difference I noticed is they really know their machines. At the previous dentist I visited I felt like Id always run into delays of them trying to figure out the machine or not using it correctly on me and then having to restart. This was not the case here. She adjusted it to me and ran everything in one smooth swoop and even offered to take breaks if I needed because the process takes a little while. She was awesome. I was seen by Dr Ching. He started off by introducing himself and shaking my hand. I know it was a small gesture but it really set the tone for the rest of the appointment. It was just a small sign of respect that I really appreciated. He asked me what was going on and really listened to issues and concerns I was having, He explained a lot to me about the process of fixing my smile. He made me feel so much better about fixing my teeth and being proactive with my oral health. It made me feel so much better because you can really tell hes knows what hes doing. I also had my gums checked out. I didnt catch her name but I wish I did. She was very gentle and was able to give me a lot of info and confidence that I havent completely ruined my gums. Again, very kind and compassionate, while also keeping professional and honest about what is going on and what my next steps are. I am so thankful to have found this place. I usually don't write reviews at all but I would not recommend this dental office due to the…read moreconsistent pattern of unprofessionalism and poor patient care I have experienced over the years. One of the biggest issues has been the constant rescheduling and cancellation of appointments. I have had appointments booked for weeks or even months in advance, only to receive a call shortly before the appointment informing me that it needed to be canceled. While I was in college, I would fly home specifically for dental appointments, and on multiple occasions they canceled just days beforehand because there was "no hygienist available." I was also told that appointments had to be canceled because a hygienist had scheduled something for themselves during my appointment time and needed to leave. Most recently, I received a call asking if I could come in earlier because the dentist wanted to leave early that day. Despite accommodating their request and arriving early, my six-month cleaning and checkup felt rushed. The cleaning lasted approximately ten minutes, and afterward I was told, "Since nothing is bothering you, the doctor doesn't need to see you." A routine dental checkup should not depend solely on whether a patient is actively experiencing symptoms. I was also extremely disappointed by a breach of patient confidentiality during this visit. A hygienist disclosed that someone I know was also a patient at the office and even acknowledged, "I'm not supposed to be telling you this." Regardless of intent, sharing another patient's information is highly inappropriate and unprofessional. Additionally, the office attempted to bill both me and my insurance for a filling that failed less than a week after it was placed. A filling should not fall out from normal flossing within days of treatment, and I do not believe patients should be charged for correcting work that was clearly unsuccessful. Unfortunately, these issues are not isolated incidents but part of a recurring pattern that has made me lose confidence in this practice. Between the frequent cancellations, scheduling problems, rushed appointments, breach of confidentiality, and questionable handling of dental work, I can no longer recommend this office to others.
