Stress and grinding my teeth at night found me with an unexpectedly loose tooth and an infection. When my dentist told me I needed to have the tooth extracted, I made a mental list of things that would give me less anxiety to include sky diving and bungee jumping. Despite the anxiety, I called Oral Surgery Hawai'i and took their first available appointment. I got stuck in a bit of traffic and got lost looking for their office and despite it all, the staff was super nice and helpful when I called. I'm a terrible dental patient, with extreme anxiety and definitely not someone that any dental professional looks forward to seeing in their office. I explained to the dental assistant my fears and she was super supportive and validated me sharing that even she was a nervous patient. Dr. Kitamura came in and introduced himself, explained the procedure and asked if I had any questions. I told him that I'm a terrible patient, explained how to best work on me without me running from the office (iPods in, sunglasses on with eyes closed and no play by play). Dr. Kitamura did exactly what I asked, only instructing me when to breathe and take deep breaths. The dental assistant was absolutely amazing and provided comfort and assurance throughout the procedure. The extraction took what felt like less than 10 minutes and i walked out in zero pain and feeling a sense of total relief. I'll be going back in a few months to start the process of getting an implant, and although I'll continue to be a terrified patient, I know I'll receive nothing but superior gentle care. Given that I haven't taken to Yelp in forever to share a review, that should speak volumes of my experience here today. First of all I made an error on her appointment date going to Alamoana SC Building instead they asked if another location alright which is as closer to our home. I came here awhile ago to remove a fractured tooth and Service was quick. I arrived here the second time, for a dental implant and due to the pandemic, everything is all scheduled. The entrance door was locked and i was let in by a dental technician. When i got seated, she went over all the procedures and what they'll be doing. She made me feel relax, and before you know it, i was under the knife. It took about roughly 25 mins or so, and i was done. Throughout the whole procedure, Dr Kevin M, also made me feel comfortable. When i could feel pain, he have me more shots...At the end, i am glad i came here. If you ever need dental oral surgery, i highly rexommend this place. Inside the exam room honestly looked old and ran down, made me feel unsure. The doctor was nice and pretty quick consultation. I did my follow up with OSH and choked up right before I left. Why? Because this surgeon and the staff here are simply wonderful! I had no idea that this entire experience would be so positive and basically painless. This last appointment was so quick and the dental assistant was so nice. I also love that they're so up to date in their practice. I was dreading the awful gag producing impression, but they use digital impressions so it was a mere minutes of waving a wand in your mouth. I am amazed by how well everything went during my encounter with Oral Surgery Hawaii. I was able to schedule an appointment in a reasonable time frame after cracking my tooth. All of the dental staff that I encountered were pleasant, professional and very efficient. The front desk kept me informed by regular text messages. Dr. Michael Hironaka was very pleasant and proffesional. From past experince wiyh two prior dental extractions, I expected a long painfull process. However, after recieving local anestesia, Dr. Hironaka removed my entire tooth within 5 minutes. He reported that he got lucky, but I suspect a lot of this luck was due to his exception oral surgery skills. The only thing I experienced during the procedure was surprise when my tooth came out so quickly, no pain. I was recommended to go here by my orthodontist. I came in for impacted lower wisdom extractions that had risk of permanent nerve failure. But Dr. Kitamura said the nerves were in tact after finishing. It has been a week post op. Last week was pretty rough for me I was swollen and had a splitting headache. I couldn't keep the pain meds down so I ended up not using them. But one week after I feel my normal self. I am so glad I finally got it done so I don't have to worry about it anymore and no permanent nerve damage. Yay. The Dr and staff were super nice and accommodating. read more

We were referred to Oral Surgery Hawaii for my teen to get her wisdom teeth removed. It sounded like a big job and came with some stress for us and not knowing the unknown. Luckily, I yelped this place and I was relieved to see so many 5 starts reviews. So, I booked a consultation. A lady who helped me sounded friendly and professional and asked me some basic information/question and sent me a link to registered which I forgot to do but when we arrived on the appointment day they were very forgiving of me not filling out the application ahead of time. Shame on me! See, taking care of teen can be stressful for me. Anyhow, this office is very techy which I find it helpful. They sent me some helpful link where you can watch a video of the doctor explaining what you can expect. I find it the most helpful because you can kind of get the feel of what the doctor's personality will be like. You want to be mentally prepared. Anyhow, when we met Dr. Yamamoto in person he was personable, professional, and knowledgeable especially to my teen. He's also musical so if you're concerned about how this may affect your patient he can answer you. Dr. Yamamoto's assistants are very knowledgeable so they can answer any questions you have. We were able to schedule our surgery on a Saturday morning which was great. The whole process took about an hour and they gave lots of information on how to take care after the surgery. Importantly, we were provided with pain killer prescription before the surgery so that we were all prepared. So helpful and one less thing to do! This office is located on the opposite side of Macy's on the rooftop of Pearlridge. They do have a town location as well. read more

Dr. Kitamura is the best!!! His ability to make you feel so comfortable and he provides you with all the information you need to help you make informed decisions about your individual dental care. The dental assistants are always friendly and helpful. The clerks at the front are sweet too, they assisted me in re-scheduling twice. I was able to call in a few days in advance and they were extremely accommodating. The implant procedure and product will cost about 3-4,000 as it is a multi step process which includes my regular dentist doing the last step. read more

I came in for a wisdom removal at the Pearl Ridge location. I was assigned to Dr. Kiezik and am very pleased with my experience as well as results. I got my two bottom wisdom teeth removed and on the first appointment they did an x-ray and gave me was able to give me an estimate of what my insurance was able to cover and what was left for me to pay on the day of surgery. I opted for having my mouth numbed and being awake for the process. It took about 20 minutes for the whole thing to be finished. I didn't feel a thing besides to typical stretching of my mouth. I asked for more numbing as I was able to feel some of what was happening and they numbed me up real quick! Dr. Kiezik was constantly making sure I wasn't in pain and explained everything while it was happening so I was neve run the dark about what they were doing. I came for a check up a week later and am happy to say that I didn't swell at all! I numbed my face for 48 hours, 20 minutes here and there. They give you directions and a link to a video that explains everything you'd need to know about the healing process. They also give you ice packs for after surgery as well as a syringe to use for flushing out food that may get stuck. I was eating regular food, besides popcorn, the very next day! One of my holes left from the removal of the tooth, since it was impacted, got inflamed and when I mentioned this to Dr. Kiezik during the check-up visit, she told me this is nothing to worry about and put a medicine strip over my gum area and the pain immediately went away. I returned 4 days later to have that medicine strip removed and every thing was perfect! No more sore wisdoms, no more sore gums! I am planning to go back within the next couple of months to have my top wisdoms removed once my insurance can cover more of the cost. HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kiezik as she is informative and makes you feel comfortable. The staff is so friendly and very fast and professional. Dr. Blake Did my 4 wisdoms removal 2 weeks ago.. from the appointment set-up, to my consult it was so smooth.. the techs and med assistants are very professionals, friendly and hella smart! I asked them so much questions and provided me peace of mind.. the day of surgery,, it went perfect, Dr. Blake was always checking how my pain level was and very thorough with my f/u since i developed some dry sockets and placed me on ABX and refilled my pain meds.. He doesn't have the time to listen to or understand his patients. I would not recommend this office as the staff as well as the doctor are not involved with their patients. Yesterday I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Kitamura and his team. I felt so nervous but they made me feel as comfortable as possible aside from the laughing gas and the numbing. My teeth were really "stubborn" as Dr. Kitamura mentioned but I am very glad and thankful everything went well, my teeth gave them a workout. Tldr: Dr Blake Kitamura and staff are the best. I was referred to Dr Blake Kitamura to have my top wisdoms removed a little over two years ago but I put it off because getting my bottom ones removed a decade ago in college was so traumatic. Finally got around to going in for a consult last week, and went in yesterday to have the procedure done. It was incredibly fast. They put topical anesthetic, waited 5-10 min, got my numbing shots (3 on each side) which was wayyyyy less painful than I remember it being (Dr Blake has a nice touch), waited another 5-10 min, then he started. I kept my eyes tightly shut the entire time and was borderline hyperventilating but Dr Blake was amazing. There was zero pain, just lots of tugging and some terrifying drilling noises but he kept me as calm as could be by letting me know what he was doing at each step and before I knew it, we were done. I swear the actual process took only maybe 5-6 minutes. Obviously there was a little discomfort yesterday and I took Tylenol and advil around the clock but decided today to see what the pain level was without meds so I went off them for 12 hours and surprisingly there's no pain. Considering it's only been a little over 24 hours I don't know how that's possible, guess he's a magician. Another note, not sure who does the hiring for that office but they are doing something right. The entire staff was comprised of caring, reassuring and friendly team members and it seems like a great place to work. Keep it up! read more

I was referred to Oral Surgery Hawaii by my primary dentist because I needed a tooth extracted and an implant. Upon entering the examination room, the dental assistant did an awesome job explaining the entire process. (Extraction to healing time to implant). She was able to answer any questions I had. Dr. Kitamura then entered the room and explained the extraction process in more detail. His bedside manner was very professional. I then switched rooms for the actual extraction. It's always unsettling to go through a procedure "not knowing" what the doctor is doing and/or when a slight pinch or a small bit of pain/pressure will surface. Dr. Kitamura did a great job explaining step by step what he was doing -- as he was doing it. He made me aware of any pinches or pressure and at no time was I in pain. I truly appreciated this and it made my experience more comfortable and reduced my anxiety. After the procedure I was given specific instructions and I was on my way. Originally went in with the intention of getting sedated while i got my wisdoms pulled. Since i had a slight cold, the staff informed me that i wasn't able to be put under due to health risks. At this point i had 2 options: 1) reschedule or 2) Keep the appointment and use nitrous to keep me calm during the surgery. Being that i had to take 3 out, i was pretty nervous. Mind you, i am absolutely terrified of the dentist! Long story short, Dr. Blake helped keep my nerves cool whilst talking me into keeping my appointment. Referred to Dr. Kitamura to extract 2 lower wisdom teeth. Consultation was quick, informative and throughly explained. I had the option to either go with local anesthetic, laughing gas or being put to sleep during the procedure. Originally I scheduled my appointment with laughing gas, but changed my mind the day of to just go with the local anesthetic. Although I was VERY nervous, Dr. Kitamura kept reassuring me that everything was ok and he made sure I was comfortable and not experiencing any pain (even the slightest). The entire experience from walking in to walking out was less than 45 minutes and PAINLESS! Despite all the horror stories I was told by everyone about their own experience (elsewhere) I can honestly say mines was very pleasant and I would definitely recommend Dr. Kitamura and his staff. Even my recovery went well, no swelling. There was pain, but that's because I had food debris caught in the socket. But the follow up appointment Dr. Kitamura's assistant did help with clearing that up for me and instantly the pain was gone. I was referred to Dr Yamamoto by my general dentist Dr Tenjoma from Gentle Dental in Waianae as I needed implants for my upper mouth as the crowns from several years ago had cavities that could not be fixed. In addition to that issue I also had partial dentures that really didn't allow me to eat most things and it was recommended that I go the implant procedures. I had my initial visit and was extremely pleased with both the staff and Dr Yamamoto as they took the time to explain everything that was happening at the visit and what the plan was for us to proceed including the costs. While it was costly for the work that was to be done I'm happy to say that it was all worth it and am looking forward to being able to eat as though I had my real teeth. I would highly recommend Oral Surgery and Dr Yamamoto. I was also very pleased when I was surprised by a flower arrangement that I received the day after my procedure from Dr Yamamoto and Dr Tenjoma. I have had a total of 8 teeth pulled in my short lifetime but I have to say the experience of having all 4 wisdoms pulled by Dr. Kitamura was the best. I chose to just numb the area instead of being KO'd, but he made sure it was pain free and very efficient. I was out of the office very quickly. Dr. Kitamura is very professional and sociable, he makes sure you know what is coming before he does things. So there were never any surprises. Ultimately he made what would have been a tense operation, feel normal, which is great since you don't get test pulled everyday. The after care was great as well. The PA or Nurse was very knowledgeable and their tips and tricks worked as I didn't have massive swelling in the days after. Of course, everyone reacts differently. Overall great experience, if you want professionalism and efficiency for any of your oral operations this is the place to go! read more

I had to see Dr. Kiezik for an emergency tooth extraction a few days ago. I was really surprised on how great of an experience it was because you would think taking out a sensitive infected tooth would be sore. She was very professional and made me feel at ease by explaining everything every step of the way so I knew what to expect. She kept checking in with me during the surgery to ask how I was doing and to make sure I was comfortable. Next thing you know my tooth was out, was fast and painless. She went over some instructions with me personally and prescibed me medication, antiobotics to help with the infection I had and pain medicine. I have to get two more teeth taken out and I'm not even nervous about it because my experience was that great. Her staff was friendly and was ontop of everything which made this a smooth process. Another thing I appreciated was that her and her staff took extra precaution and sanitary measures due to the Covid-19 outbreak, which showed me that they're doing their part to minimize the spread of the virus and also that they care about my health/health of others and not only on just taking out my tooth. Dr. Blake did four wisdoms removal few weeks back. The initial appointment was very informative and he was so nice. The assistants were so professional and so friendly. The office is very clean and welcoming. On the day of extraction I was really nervous.. I opted in getting the extraction with nitrous oxide and I didn't feel or hear a thing. I'm so glad I did! He did an amazing job, the extraction was so quick. The assistants took good care of me after the procedure! After one week check up, everything was back to normal.
