Very professional, clean office, & caring staff. Be prepared to book well in advance, it's a busy office with many longtime clients.

Despite the anxiety, I called Oral Surgery Hawai'i and took their first available appointment. I got stuck in a bit of traffic and got lost looking for their office and despite it all, the staff was super nice and helpful when I called. I'm a terrible dental patient, with extreme anxiety and definitely not someone that any dental professional looks forward to seeing in their office. I explained to the dental assistant my fears and she was super supportive and validated me sharing that even she was a nervous patient. Dr. Kitamura came in and introduced himself, explained the procedure and asked if I had any questions. I told him that I'm a terrible patient, explained how to best work on me without me running from the office (iPods in, sunglasses on with eyes closed and no play by play). Dr. Kitamura did exactly what I asked, only instructing me when to breathe and take deep breaths. The dental assistant was absolutely amazing and provided comfort and assurance throughout the procedure. The extraction took what felt like less than 10 minutes and i walked out in zero pain and feeling a sense of total relief. I'll be going back in a few months to start the process of getting an implant, and although I'll continue to be a terrified patient, I know I'll receive nothing but superior gentle care. Given that I haven't taken to Yelp in forever to share a review, that should speak volumes of my experience here today. If you're terrified of oral surgery, this office may just be the place for you.

My 19- year old daughter went to Dr. Pamaplon on a referral from her pediatric dentist. She needed all 4 wisdom to be removed. Trying to make an appointment was difficult. Took one full day for someone to call me back and schedule an appointment. Nevertheless I brushed it off. No biggie. Day came for the procedure and the receptionist/front girl was a little sassy but that was also fine and we were unbothered. Gave us 4 pages, front and back, to fill out. 10 minutes later after filling everything out, we went in. Doctor gave us the breakdown of the procedure. Asked us what type of numbing we wanted, laughing gas or anesthesia. We opted for laughing gas. She did not fast for 8 hours. My daughter stayed in the room and I left to the waiting room which is about the size of a 12x12 room. Nurse peeked in and whispered something to the front girl. The front girl made a comment "we can always change our minds..." then called me over and said since I changed the type of numbing the cost is more for the procedure. That's not a problem. But she still felt the need to make a comment about "us changing our minds". Procedure was quick, that was great. The worst part was the numbing she said. Everything was fine after that. About a week later, my daughter was having pain on one side. Tried calling all morning 8-12 and no response. I told her to walk in and talk to the front girl to make an appointment since no one was answering the phone. They told her she had to wait as a "walk in". They ended up getting her an appointment for the following day at 2pm. 2pm comes the following day, Dr.Pampalon did the numbing (injections) and pain which was expected. Then he proceeded to dig into her gums, scraping gum tissue. She could feel ALL of it. He didn't care, didn't ask if she was ok, didn't ask if it hurt. She was kicking her feet while tears ran down her face. She made every indication she was in pain and he SAID NOTHING TO HER. When he was done he walked out, rushed out the door as though he was late for his next victim. His assistant looked at my daughter and asked if the pain was from the numbing. My daughter replied "no! It was from him scraping my gums! I could feel all of it!" She calmly said "oh ya we had to get all the tissue in case it was infected". NO APOLOGIES, NO CONSIDERATION! She had tears running down her face! Bawling. Dr. Pampalon was so unprofessional and insensitive and didn't have any human dignity. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. I'm ashamed and feel like a terrible mother for sending her there and not being there when this happened. Think twice before booking your oral procedures here.

Unfortunately with work, I had to ask for a later date in order to give my boss a heads up. Once I was taken in, the whole staff was very friendly, which helped because I was suuuper nervous! I believe the surgeon's name was Dr. Michael Pampalon and he calmly went through the procedure, what to expect afterwards, and answered any questions I had. I asked to be put under for the procedure and I have very difficult veins to locate for the IV but even still they were very patient and calming me down. The doctor said that if the IV didn't take (which luckily it finally did) he said that if I wanted to go without the anesthesia or just come back on another day, that would be fine either way. They all took great care of me from whether it was asking if I wanted a blanket during the procedure because their office is very cold, to making sure I was okay with being poked with IVs multiple times and waiting patiently with my fear of needles! Just a heads up though, if you go under, make sure your ride brings a jacket because that entire office is very cold!
