I have going to Dr Lum's practice for a number of years. The office is immaculate with a friendly staff and tropical fish tank. Today I had X-rays and cleaning. I don't remember the Dental Hygienist's name who cleaned my teeth but she kept me entertained while she cleaned my teeth. I didn't feel a thing and it was a completely relaxing experience. I can remember the days of dreading to have my teeth cleaned. I actually had a hygienist who said "No pain. No gain." That couldn't be farther from the truth at Dr Lum's office! read more

Let me start off by saying David Lum himself is so kind and great! His staff however make me never want to go back... To preface this, I have been going to them for years and have put up with a lot of crap from the workers but today, wow, made me never want to go back.... About a year ago the older receptionist gave me a lot of attitude and I don't even think she's a dental hygienist but she told the hygienist she'd handle my cleaning.... And of course, wouldn't you guess it? She claimed to have found 3 cavities.... I had eaten a protein bar earlier in the day and when Dr. Lum came in to see me I told him that and he said the "give" in the tooth the lady claimed she found could have been that. Seriously.... How dishonest.... Felt like she was just trying to create something wrong so I would have to spend more money to take care of it... Ever since then I have been so skeptical going back... I don't know the older receptionist's credentials so I didn't report it when it happened... Today, I got to my appointment early and they took me 8 minutes late. The dental hygienist I had felt like she was new... she had no spatial awareness whatsoever and as soon as she leaned me back she shoved the plaque scraper in my mouth and made me tongue bleed... She did my x-rays and kept pushing the machine against my face... Then as we were going through the cleaning she kept jabbing me with her tools and there was a point where she stuck the water sucker to the inside of my cheek to make it stay.... I move it off because it was uncomfortable... When she flossed my teeth she let the used floss drag across my face as she tried to get my other teeth... Then at the end after Dr. Lum had seen me and left, she apologized for stabbing my tongue and blamed it on me saying that my tongue moved and that's why I got stabbed.... Since when is that an apology? She basically told me "I'm sorry it's your fault"... I wasn't speaking or even moving for that matter... My teeth weren't problematic before my visit and it took an hour after my visit for my gums to stop throbbing ... She said she found my plaque on my top teeth yet my bottom teeth/ gums were in a lot of pain after the appointment... I thought back to my appointment before this one when the receptionists gave me a little calendar and they asked me why I go to them and not somewhere closer the where I live... Both the younger and older receptionists made me feel unwelcomed with that comment so I guess moving forward, I'll be looking for a new dentist... In the years I've went here, I have had one dental hygienist I liked and the Dr himself is great.... That's why they get 2 stars... For them.... They are the real MVP's/ stars... The rest of the staff there though, no thank you... I do not recommend this place! Unless you like waiting past your appointment time, getting bogus claims you have cavities that the doctor confirms really might not even be one, dental hygienists that make you bleed and your gums throb, and unfriendly receptionists ... read more

After 36 years of loyalty to my dentist it was time to move on after his unfortunate passing. It took me almost a year to find someone worth trying. I searched Google and Yelp reviews and called around to a bunch of different places before settling on Dr. Lums office. I was impressed with the young lady that took my call. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the insurance and benefits. She informed me that my insurance allowed my family a cleaning every 4 months instead of the customary 2x a year. This was never told to me before from my long time dentist. I was unable to schedule an appointment for all 4 of us the same day because of the availability of dental hygienist but we were able to get us scheduled 2 at a time a couple weeks apart initially. Unfortunately a couple weeks after scheduling I got a call that my daughter and I would have to have our appointments pushed back to a couple weeks after my husband and son because one of their hygienist wouldn't be in. I was annoyed at first but because we were able to be scheduled a week and a half after my husband and son I didn't mind. Come appointment day I was very pleased with the office space and staff. Everyone was very nice and the office was clean and comfortable. Dr. Lum took all of 5 minutes with me after the hygienist cleaned my teeth but I didn't mind because I didn't have any questions or concerns. I look forward to continuing my family's care here and am grateful I found this office. read more

Very disappointed after 26 years of being a patient. My gold filling fell off during the North Shore disasters. I live in Waialua so I was already stressed out and am a disabled person. I called and asked to have the gold piece put back on for now. The last time it fell off dr lum put it back on and it lasted years. DRLum refused to do it. Said my tooth should be pulled out. Said won't take my insurance. I offered to pay cash. Explained I couldn't take any more pain right now and possible Infection because our water was contaminated in waialua due to the floods. NO. they refused me care. I found a wonderful old school knowledgeable dentist in Haleiwa that had no problem refilling my tooth properly. Never even mentioned pulling it.which would have led to a plethora of other problems and expense. I am so disappointed and appalled at the way I was treated at Dr. Lums. Refused me proper medical dental care. Shame on you. read more

They Waited until the last day of six month appointment to cancel my appointment at the last minute. So many patients that they dont need your business. If you complain about staff, they may cancel you. They got more people lined up. Doesn't care if staff is too rough. The staff comes before this patients concerns, or discomfort. read more

Atmosphere is so comfortable due to a highly professional, super friendly and very efficient. Last but not least they are exceptional at communicating with their clients. They really care! Five stars for a dentist office? I know, right? Who loves to go to the dentist? But you gotta go, and this office makes the experience as pleasant as possible. I've been going to this office for cleanings for years, plus I had my wisdom teeth taken out, too. Kristy is my favorite hygienist, but everyone I've had here has been great - chatty and friendly, and they take it easy with the iron hook. They also don't snap the floss down on your gums which is the worst part of the whole procedure. The office runs on schedule - I've never waited long beyond my appointment time. If I still feel a little roughness on the surface of my teeth, they're happy to polish until it feels right. My extraction experience was also... well, I'll not say GOOD because it was 4 teeth being removed from my head after all! - but it was a positive experience. I had it done under local anesthesia, and it was only slightly uncomfortable, as uncomfortable as shots in the jaw are going to be! The procedure was pretty quick, and they followed up with me the next day to check on how I was doing. I wouldn't hesitate to do further procedures with this office, however, I'll keep up the regular cleanings and hopefully avoid them! The office is very clean and modern. There's just enough seating in the front with magazines and some kids activities, but again, I don't usually wait there very long. Loads of easy parking in the lot, and the office is easy to spot from Meheula Pkwy. They take HDS, and they were helpful with suggesting an extra cleaning benefit I didn't even know I had during pregnancy (3x per year, instead of just 2x). read more

I have major major medical anxiety to where I'm crying outside and I had a lot of cavities I've neglected and they helped me for all my appointments to make me feel comfortable and encouraged. A few weeks ago, I had a dental appointment at Dr. William Lum's office. However, because Dr. Lum was not available on the day I requested, I agreed to see Dr. Yuree instead. I was greeted by Liz, the dental assistant who walked me into Dr. Yuree's office. Liz prepared me for Dr. Yuree in a very professional, yet caring manner. She made small talk with me and I found her to be quite friendly and caring. Throughout the somewhat complicated work on my teeth, Dr. Yuree was so pleasant and quite informative as to what she was doing. At the same time, Liz took good care of me and responded to all my requests. Both Dr. Yuree and Liz were so gentle with their movements that I dozed off a few times and I was reminded to keep my mouth open. I definitely recommend this establishment to my friends and family or to anyone looking for a great dental staff. read more

Located directly off of the Mililani Mauka exit. Across the intersection from McDonald's and between the big Rec Center and Wayland Baptist University. This office is very clean and spacious. A definite upgrade from the last dentist I went to (great guy, but the office was a little bit more "old school" for sure). Loved the decor and aquarium. Each patient chair was separated by dividers and gave a sense of privacy. My hygienist did a very thorough job. I'm used to getting my teeth cleaned and not getting specific explanations of what they see or how my teeth are doing. Here I got very specific explanations of the condition of my teeth and gums, and specifically which teeth and areas to "watch out" for. Very good patient education... Co-pay for a cleaning was very reasonable with my HDS insurance ($50 something). My brother's co-pay was only $11 for a cleaning covered by HMSA. Overall, I felt it was a very good value. New patients will have to come in a half hour prior to their appointment to fill out the paper work. Also, they do seem to have a very well thought-out and strict appointment cancellation policy--so be sure to be aware of this and cancel with enough advance notice to avoid hefty fees. Overall, I was very impressed with this dentist office and would definitely come back. I got a free tooth brush, tooth paste, and floss sample. I like free stuff. read more

This place is verY convenient: it is right off the Mauka off ramp from H2 and ample parking. The office is very clean and inviting. The front desk is very friendly and courteous. The hygienists are very personable and friendly: it's nice to hear conversations and laughter in a dentist office. And last but certainly not the least, both doctors are very nice and knows what they are doing: the amount of time and quality of work is very good. I would totally recommend anyone to come here!! I went to this dentist for a normal check up. He decided I need work done on 4 spots on my teeth. Everything was perfect before I went there. He did my front teeth at first and I had to go back because the filling was basically see through so my (front) tooth looked really spotty. After fixing it he made my tooth wider then it was before. He damaged also a nerve in one of my molars, I've been in constant pain for months. I've been on antibiotics twice and as of right now I probably need to get this molar extracted. The front teeth he worked on also started hurting. I didn't go to the other 2 appointment to get more "fixed" because I was scared he is going to mess up all my teeth. Great experience. The staff were all very kind and knowledgeable. I was brought back right away. Though going to the dentist can be a painful experience for most, it was super easy and pleasant. My children have been seen by Dr. Lum for 11 years now. I have always been greeted by name and with a smile. Both Doctors Lum are outstanding professionals. Every time my boys are seen, they thank me for bringing them in. I'm writing this now because my oldest has just had an extraction 3 hours ago (braces... small mouth... poor kid). The office called to check up on him just now and see how he was doing. I was just very impressed that they don't feel as if their responsibility ends as soon as you walk out of the door. I hate to be negative about this place because all the dental hygienist that I saw when I went in for cleanings were all very nice and personable. They did a great job and only have the highest praise for them. However whenever I used to call and speak to the receptionist they always had such a bad attitude. I had 2 family members that choose to leave this office because of bad experiences but I gave it a chance for a couple years only to end up leaving myself. Wonderful, professional office! Tanya/Tasha (sorry, I cannot recall since it has been a week) was the dental hygienist that did my dental cleaning. She is very sweet and easy to talk to! Dr. Lum was brief and straight to the point but very friendly. I feel much more confident in their operations compared to my previous dentist office in mililani that continued to reflect terrible reviews after my visit back in May this year. Five stars from me! I've been going to Doctor Lum for almost five years. Dr. Lum (Uncle and Nephew) are by far the friendliest doctors you can have working on your teeth/gums. They're both caring doctors, always making sure that your comfort comes first. Went the other day and confused the Uncle for the Nephew.....just saying LOL! The staff is AWESOME, very friendly and caring too! Parking is great. Never had to wait more than ten minutes for my appointment. If your bill is high, they're willing to help and assist you by accepting monthly payments. I so love the text reminder of appointment on my phone.....too cool. I've been coming to Dr. Lum's office for about 5 years now. I love the staff that work there - from the receptionists, to the hygeniests, to the Doctors - all very friendly. We all know how uncomfortable it can be to have someone working inside your mouth, but they make it as comfortable as it could be. I've had cleanings done, x-rays taken, chipped teeth repaired and even cavities filled (shame on me!) so I've sampled quite a few of their services here haha! The Doctors are very gentle with the anesthetic shots (we all know how important that is!!) My daughter is a patient here as well and always comes home smiling. What was even most impressive was the fact that they recognized my review on Yelp. I guess people really do read these things. Thus far, I would say this is the only place where I can honestly give a 100%. Everything is perfect, I even went as far as refer my co-worker here and they knew of it too! I left in a happier state to know that I still do not have any cavities after 24 years! Environment: Talk about perfect. The floor, ceilings, walls, everything is perfect. The upkeep has no blemishes. The hallways and lobby area are very spacious. Not only that, but the seats you sit on for cleaning is very comfortable. What is impressive to hear is that they are making room to transition to computer charting! YES! Employees: 5-stars! I have been with them for six years and make the best accommodations ever! After greeting me with my name and smile, they greeted my dad as well! Wow! Now, I call that service. Beyond that, my usual, April was impressed that I keep my "coffee stains" at bay. She informed me as to how the treatment will go today and answered all my questions regarding recommendations for brushing, flossing, pH levels for teeth, and fluoride. Upon leaving, I mentioned that I may leave indefinitely to the mainland and may need to have my records come with me. They smiled and said they will make my cleaning earlier than usual. YES! Talk about feeling special! On the last note about this, they give you reminder phone calls! Cost: The whole thing that day was supposed to be 700 bucks, I think, but I ended up only paying $28.00! Look how cheap no cavities are? My dad mentioned to me that his crown was about $280 after all the co-payments. He stated that it would have been well over a thousand dollars. Yikes! Cleaning: April knows her job and she does it very well! As someone who is in the medical field as well, I am aware as the procedures of treatment plans etc. She informed me of what the future treatments will look like, making me at ease. I am so proud of her! Areas where it was sensitive on my teeth, she was very careful. This literally IS as GOOD as it GETS. I am so, so grateful I found this office on Yelp this month. I utilize Yelp because it cuts down on wasting time (which we're all strapped for) in taking a chance on business and having bad first time experiences. From the women at the front desk, to the hygienists, to Dr. Lum. You'de think they all take classes on genuinely making patients feel welcomed and cared for. I dont think I've ever received information (they are very in-depth and thorough) on my dental health AND...... they called me the evening of my appointment to check on me and see how I was doing! Also, I was a bit shocked with how clean and beautiful this office is. Aside from all of that, I had been with another dental office in Mililani prior to finding Dr. Lum and was unhappy with the service there for a few years. Outstanding place with outstanding people.... When it comes to teeth, lets just say thats not my strong suit. I really dread going to the dentist! Got many quotes to glue a crown back in, this place was the most competitive I found. Yeah there was a lot of paper work in the beginning, but that would be anywhere. The staff was very friendly and explained everything. They told me when I'd be called in, and they were right on time. My doctor was Dr David Lum. The process was quick and pretty straight forward, I was eased by the calmness of Dr Lum and He really understood my dismay. I must say, a very happy experience...really felt a genuine care for their patients. My teeth haven't been this clean in ages. Location: Easy to find, free parking. Appointments: Very accommodating. I am going to give a poor review on this, not because of the staff but because of the information provided at my appointment. I went in for my teeth cleaning and was told that I needed to have my old silver filling removed. I scheduled that procedure but was strongly urged by a friend to GOOGLE the removal of silver fillings. If you haven't googled that, DO IT. I asked the dentist about it and he rolled his eyes, saying that there was no proof of it being a concern. I went with my best judgement and got a 2nd opinion. The 2nd dentist I saw said that my filling was completely in tact and not to worry about removing it right now since I am a nursing mother- but did say that going to a holistic doctor to have it removed would be the ideal scenario as it can be dangerous. read more

First off, the location is great! Right when you enter Mililani Mauka and there's lots of parking. The building itself is new so this office is clean, spacious, and well-lit. Be sure to make your appointment early because times fill up fast! And not to miss your appointment time because there is a nominal fee if you do so. Before I review, a little background. I haven't seen a dentist in years and my teeth have issues. I've never been fond of going to the dentist but I made a decision that I had to. I researched dentists on the island and found Dr. David as rated well. When I called to make the appointment I spoke to Emma and explained my situation and she was great.. she even said... don't worry, this is a judgement free zone... i really appreciated that and made me feel so good. She was professional and friendly the whole time. I arrived and she greeted me and she was equally friendly, accommodating and professional in person. I met many people that evening and everyone was great. Christy did the majority of the cleaning and other items. She was amazing.. i can't say enough about her personality and how welcoming she made me feel. She truly helped make my experience way above what I expected. Dr. David also was extremely nice and was able to explain to me what they could do and did it in a way I completely understand. Thank you for the great dental experience.. I find nothing about this dental practice that diminishes a 5-star rating. The front desk is smart, efficient and friendly; the hygenists, too, are capable and friendly to the point of remembering little details and conversations from previous visits months later; and Dr. Lum has got to be the most painless dentist I've ever met, from administering the initial shots to drilling to replacing old fillings. Plus, the office is very conveniently located near the Mililani offramps of the H2 in an uncrowded business park, across from the much busier center with the Longs, McDs, etc. I haven't issued many 5-star ratings, but this is now one of 'em. read more

My daughter used to hate the dentist. She would cry and have to be held down for a cleaning. Since coming here she loves the dentist! She even reminds me when it's time for a cleaning. She's gotten cavities filled, teeth pulled, and she has no issues. I wish they did orthodontics as well so we could just keep coming here. read more

I will be finding a new dentist, I am very unhappy with my filling. I went back and they smoothed it out, but it is still rough and feels like part of the tooth is missing even after 6 months. I worried what in the world I would do if I got another cavity... I don't want them near me with a drill again. The other day I missed my appointment and I just received a $75 bill, that was the deciding factor. I will not be back there. The hygienists are great though. read more

I didn't even have a wait time & the appointment itself was fast & pain free.
