If you show up at the right time you can take over the jukebox and play David Bowie and R. Kelly all night.

The tables were clean and well kept, and the use of "half umbrellas" against the side of a building was a thoughtful touch. We were seated right away, and our drink orders taken right away. Our server did an excellent job, although he apologized for not coming back in time to bring me another Black Butte Porter (which I didn't plan to refill, anyway; even though it was excellent on tap). We placed an order for the "Bavarian Pretzel" appetizer, which was advertised to have a "mustard sauce" with it, and we also paid extra for their "Queso Cheese Dip". The bread itself was quite delicious, but the mustard sauce was just honey mustard salad dressing (disappointing), and the cheese appeared to be melted processed pepper jack cheese. The cheese dip was good with the bread, but we had a lot of dip leftover after the 3 pieces of bread. For a main course, I went with the Spicy Jalapeno Burger, but opted for Crispy Chicken, instead of a hamburger patty. The burger was massive, and consisted of multiple crispy chicken tenders, instead of one large chicken patty -- which is all good, but did make it tricky to eat, as the multiple pieces wanted to slide around. It was very good, but I think I would try the actual burger next time. I chose French fries for my side, and was disappointed that they were "battered" fries, which are not my favorite. The portion was also a little on the skimpy side. I would definitely come back again, even if there are a few small things that keep me from giving top marks.

The bar workers, when get a break come into dining room to take order, deliver food, deliver ticket (only when asked). Original waitress was pleasant, friendly and very nice to work with. Bartender who took payment was rude and inadequate. Asked for to go boxes, and a to go cup. She said no problem. Never received to go cup. Was dining with another person and both our tickets were over charged! I left small 10% tip which I hoped would go to my original waitress but I doubted it thus why small. Ambiance: nice neighborhood bar. If the servie would of been better would return. After over charges and attitude, we will not be back.

This last Friday, we came in early evening with a reservation, and were seated in less than 5 minutes. I had the Top Sirloin and my wife had the Filet Mignon, and both were great. I said yes my husband's 81 birthday and asked what would I like special. I said a piece of cake with one candle. When we arrived, our waitress did not ask me if we were celebrating a special event, but I heard her ask another table and they sang happy birthday, etc. Why does the online reservation platform ask that question if my response is not relayed to staff at the restaurant? I mentioned this to the hostess on the way out and she said did you mention this to your server? I said I should not have to since I was asked this question when I filled out the on line reservation. Also, the last time we were there at happy hour, it was extended to our table. This waitress said it only applied to the bar area, not the sit down dinner restaurant. Who is correct? We will not be going back to this restaurant chain. Improve staff communication and on line reservation requests.

We have always been fans of the McMenamins family of restaurants, hotels, and bars. After living in…read morethe Pacific Northwest for many years, we had the chance to visit quite a few of their locations and have always admired their unique approach to hospitality. One of the things we appreciate most is how McMenamins thoughtfully rehabilitates historic properties, preserving their character while giving them new life as welcoming places to gather. Each location seems to have its own personality and story, which makes visiting them feel special. Today, we had the opportunity to stop by this location, which we had not visited before. We were only planning to grab a quick lunch/dinner and get back on the road, so we didn't explore the property or dive into its history on this visit, but it's clearly a place worth spending more time at in the future. For our meal, my wife ordered a salad, I ordered a pizza, and we shared a side of Cajun tots with their housemade Ranch. Everything was enjoyable and hit the spot for a casual, satisfying stop. We'd happily return when we have more time to take in the full experience. A few things we've noticed over the years from our experiences with McMenamins: Many of their establishments introduce you to pieces of history you never really knew existed. There's often a surprising depth to the stories behind the properties, and even a quick visit can leave you wanting to learn more. Their beer can be very tasty and original, with a variety of offerings that feel thoughtfully crafted and true to their brand. As for the food, it generally lands in the realm of upscale bar fare, or perhaps bar food that wants to be upscale. Most menus are fairly similar from location to location. Don't get me wrong, the food is good and enjoyable; it just sometimes feels like it's presenting itself as something a bit more elevated than it actually is. The pricing tends to follow that same pattern, occasionally feeling a bit ambitious for what's being served. Service can be great, but it can also be hit or miss, and it's wise to be prepared to wait a little longer than expected at times. That said, the atmosphere and grounds at many of their locations are truly outstanding. You can wander the properties for quite a while at many of their locations and still not see everything. The level of detail throughout, both inside and out, is often absolutely amazing and is what really sets McMenamins apart.
