Great place we have used for years, over various ownerships and managements. Today we just needed some simple services as my husband had a photo to print as a gift and I needed a frame for print I had already made, also for gift. We happened to run into their spring sale and supplier demos. It was really fun to see all the vendors, still setting up as we arrived just after opening there was plenty of staff to help with routine purchases as well as tech help with the upload for my husband's project. I went and had a passport photo taken there. I am not beauty, but I can honestly say it was the worst photo I have ever had taken in my life. The man who took it said it was the first time he had done it and struggled to get the lights etc. to work. somehow the way he angled the light he expertly created very dark shadows under every line and crevice on my face rather than an even all around light. Customer service: the best place Ive gone to that has staff that actually helps you improve your skills. Hands down Rachel C on the staff has been my go to person. She has taken the time to explained to me the pros and cons of of each Canon cameras that I was interested in. She has never pressured me into buying gear--but instead listened to what I was wanting to achieve with my camera, and made suggestions. We have gotten two artworks framed here and the final product was excellent. Their prices are pretty competitive and they will do whatever it takes to ensure that you are happy with the service. So 5 stars for customer service. I love working with Krystal in framing, she gives her two cents when requested, is confident and experienced (which is much needed if you don't have much knowledge on framing. Her work hours are limited from Monday to Friday (10am to 5:00pm) so you do need to work around your work schedule but it's time well spent. Your art work will always be ready for pick-up the day they say it will be available. Note: some of their more ornate frames might be even cheaper than the plain ones (it just depends on the vendor and the material quality). Also make sure you pay extra attention to detail when picking your art, things might be a bit unaligned/uncentered (there can be human error) and it's best to catch it and have them fix it. My one high definition art print looked scratched which they printed and framed 3 times. It turned out that the recommended paper was not a good choice for a metal frame. they were even willing to throw in an alternative wood frame for free. Thankfully the issue was resolved and Krystal found a way to frame it. In summary they will make sure you are happy which speaks heaps of the business and their ethics that "customer comes first". read more

If I could give 6 stars I would. I've been coming to Mike's Camera since moving to Boulder years ago. I've always have good experiences. Two weeks ago, I came in a little distraught. My kids and I moved across town as the result of a highly contentious (and expensive) divorce. I wanted to have some of their artwork framed to make our new place feel like home. I had been to Michael's and was quoted $200+ per picture. I couldn't afford or justify spending $600+. I brought the artwork to Mike's with little hope that they would be less expensive. I was sent upstairs to work with Krystal. She went above and beyond. She is an empath and problem solver, found returned frames on clearance, and was able to beautifully frame the artwork quickly and beautifully. I should mention that one piece is three dimensional and Krystal had no problem figuring out what was best. It looks like a museum piece. Krystal was super communicative, understood my goals and my budget. She understood the emotional distress I was under. Krystal over delivered on her promise, and I'm tearing up just writing this. I appreciate the service and kindness I received at Mike's from Chay! I am not sure how/why but my original order was messed up. I take responsibility for perhaps not understanding the online ordering system, which is a separate issue itself. When I came into Mike's to correct my order, the service I received was above and beyond and a great customer experience. Chay, Alexis, Ally, and Riely at Mike's Camera in Boulder are the BEST! We worked with Salesperson Chay to print a metal 12X18 skiing picture and wanted it to color match an existing metal picture that was printed in 2013. Chay worked with us to tweak the colors which looked perfect. When we picked up the print we noticed that the colors changed when printed on the metal plate. We went back to Mike's with both the old and new prints and showed Chay who immediately took the old picture along with the digital copy of the new picture to the lab where Alexis, Ally, and Riely quickly did their magic and after only a couple of tries perfectly matched the old picture! My experience at Mike's Camera at the Boulder location has been fantastic. A small shop like this can get very busy but we are very fortunate to have such a great shop in town to both browse gear and also buy gear. I went in with the goal of wanting to upgrade my Nikon D7500 to a mirrorless camera next. Rachel and others at the shop generously spent their time with me, allowing me to get my hands on multiple lens at the shop to play and test, educate and answer my hundreds of questions. I would not recommend this place for international passport services. They charge extra for work that is essentially the same--for example, both Indian and U.S. passport photos require the same image size, with the only difference being that Indian photos require the head to cover around 80% of the image. When I asked why they charged more, their only explanation was "because it's for a different country." They did not explain any actual difference in the service provided. This lack of transparency and justification for the extra charge was disappointing. read more

I used their online software to create two calendars in early November. After a week of silence I went into their Boulder chat room and they said contact my pick up store in Denver, Colo Blvd. I get an email from Colo Blvd store saying the whole process takes three weeks. OK. Now into week 4 and still nothing. I call up the Colo Blvd store and talk to some rude dude who says I should call Boulder, the usual run around. I said perhaps I should have used Shutterfly instead, and he called me a "dick" and hung up. Way to go, Mike's Camera. Previous to this I went into Colo Blvd store to get some prints done that a beach photographer took of us in Mexico. There was a lengthy discussion from three sales associates saying they were not sure they could do this for copyright reasons. Finally, after about 15 minutes of back and forth, a voice bellows from the back room saying they would do it. I left my USB and went home, only then to receive a phone call from them that they had changed their mind and now would not do it. I went elsewhere and had them printed overnight. Today at Mike's, I had the worst retail experience that I can remember in maybe --- years? An employee, Flynn, demanded to look through the items that I had picked out, and then took a lot of them from me... ** in order to buy them for himself **. Yeah, I realize this sounds off-the-wall crazy, but there it is. Eventually, he even wanted to examine every single thing I'd picked out so he could decide whether to take it. But at some point, I got myself together, and refused to let him keep going. I'm still mad -- at him, but also myself for letting this happen. Like, WTF? I was going to talk to him, but then a manager showed up. I let him know what happened. He attempted to make up for it by giving me a $35-ish discount on a couple SD cards I was also buying. Now, though, I wish I'd just walked out and not spent any more money there. I wish I'd just put my hand up to Flynn and said, "Dude, I've decided to buy these. Back off. You're an employee. What the hell are you doing???" - - - - For context, in case anyone wants more details: I was wrapping up a two day shopping spree at Mike's -- a new Nikon mirrorless, a lens, two "rugged" $90 SD cards, an extra Nikon battery, a Peak Design bag, a Peak Design strap, and a second PD bag on order. And maybe another thing or two I've forgotten. It wasn't the biggest sum of money, but it was a lot to me. To be fair, up until Flynn pulled this on me, the service had been great from everyone. Now the items that Flynn got aggressive with me over were these tent sale used filters -- that had been sitting around the store for years -- and were out on a table. I had been in a good mood, and so I got a lens cloth and wrench and was cleaning them (!) and choosing the ones I wanted into a hand-picked pile. The manager and I then made a deal (nice guy!) for me to buy all of them. I liked the ones I'd already picked out, and decided to take a chance, and see if I could keep some, and sell the rest on Ebay or somewhere. ** I told Flynn that I accepted the manager's deal.** And that's when Flynn came over, telling me essentially, that he had dibs on a bunch of them (the nicest ones). (!) And he starting going over my hand-picked short-pile. He was weirdly kind of hostile, looking at me suspiciously, like I was hiding more "good ones" from him. w/e. read more

Good shop in Boulder for buying camera stuff and printing pictures. They also take passport photos and stuff as well which is a super easy process. They sell a ton of equipment and really great accessories. Ordering to get printed pictures is super easy, but their service for that isn't always the quickest and I think they might be understaffed which isn't their fault and I get it. Overall good customer service and I can tell they are trying. I will continue to go here for ordering pictures and other camera needs. read more
