This place is incredible. They have tons of cameras, all in really great shape, and one of the best film selections I've ever seen. The staff are super helpful and really know their stuff. Photo bugs of greater years that grew up with local camera stores like this which gave some good memories. This is a niche, specialist store for film (analog) cameras which, thanks to all manner of computational AI fakery of late, are about to boom again. That "gee whiz" initial interest of AI will likely yield for many to running as far from it (or even digital) and back to the roots and physicality of feeling true satisfaction from the user experience and knowledge of craft from directing the technicalities yourself to make an image that's a gem. At least for some, perhaps many and to each their own. There is true, trustworthy expertise here and a camera for every goal and budget - from a simple Pentax to the most-desirable Leicas (hint: if starting out, you can shoot satisfying photos with most any camera while learning the craft as economically as possible. Simple beginnings are often the best memories. And definitely don't underestimate the deep knowledge of the terrific, younger staff (who likely know a whole lot more than you). There is a nice inventory of cameras and lenses (and niche, rare older parts) of all manner here. Prices are what they, either it works or look elsewhere. As for selling used equipment, I would not expect 'top dollar' from this or any vintage shop. Everyone gets disappointed in the gap between what they invision vs. what can be realistically had for any secondary market resale. Get what you can or turn to private sale on eBay, Craigslist or whatever with a little more effort. read more

I was at the Boulder location today hoping to find a new lens for my camera and ask about a repair. I was told the repair team wasn't in and to come back another time, which I understand. However, when I asked about lenses, the staff member with orange hair told me to look on the website and didn't offer to look anything up themself. They mentioned they had a box of lenses in the back for my camera, but would only pull one if I found it online first. I find it odd and unhelpful to be told to check the website while already in the store. For future customers, just know that you're expected to do the searching yourself. If that's the direction the store is going, I suggest listing repair availability online for each store so customers who drive long distances, like I did, don't waste a trip. This isn't personal and I'm sure the staff member is a nice person, but the customer service was lacking. Unfortunately, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I am learning a getting into film. I had someone who works in the store personally load two cameras for me. I finished and dropped 2 rolls of film off. I get a email back saying they are blank because they were not loaded properly. Someone who works in a camera shop and can't load a camera properly probably should not be working there. read more

Yikes, seller beware. I brought in a camera that is selling used in similar condition for around $1500 on eBay, and Victory only offered me $350 claiming the camera needed 'extensive work', despite having just used it last week without issue. I ended up selling through KEH.com for $1400, which was easy and fair. The interaction at Victory started with asking me what I wanted for the camera, and I really didn't have a set price. Then only after their lowball offer, I thanked them but told them I'd be going elsewhere to sell, and they again asked me what I wanted for it and said they could go back to the owner with a counteroffer, but kept pushing for a price which I wouldn't give them. I declined again and the guy just walked away without so much as a 'thanks' for stopping by?! I'm all about supporting local shops but for selling gear I'd go elsewhere. read more

I really want to like this store, especially since it has so much potential, however every time I go in to find deals on expired film or other fun cameras and gear, the owner gives me less and less reason to return. The last several times I have been into Victory Camera the owner, Joshua, has been less pleasant than the last time. The degrading level of customer service has removed almost all the incentive to visit the store to begin with, after all Mike's Camera is just down the road and the staff are always very friendly to me and almost always have what I'm looking for, eBay will have a greater selection on cameras and gear that are often cheaper anyway, Freestyle.biz has everything I need for my darkroom and has fast shipping, and B&H Photo will have anything else I am looking for and has amazing customer service. With all this in mind I left to wonder what it is that this shop WILL offer if service is not in the cards. While it is fun to occasionally find a good deal on something random by popping into the shop because it is nearby, I begin to wonder if it will be worth it at all to put up with the owner's increasingly consistent snappy temper and lack of respect to me as a customer. With an increasing online presence of retailers gaining leverage over local stores, one of the only things a small shop has left to offer is great personal service, which this store in my experience, has failed to provide. Perhaps I will give it one more try and see what happens. After all, I want the place to succeed, but am left feeling angry and frustrated every time I leave, making me wonder why I bother? read more

In the midst of this pandemic, I really wanted to take my new available time and solitude and get out (and back) with photography. Lucky me, even though Victory Camera closed their storefront to be sure to be part of the safe measures, they offered free local shipping. It was fast, easy, and I got exactly what I wanted. Not only that, but I have to wonder at the less positive reviews because this is the time you expect stress to get to owners of businesses and Josh took his time to talk and make sure I got the right items for my interest, experience, budget, and needs. (This was despite the fact that he must have been busy getting ready for the anticipated then and now definite City of Boulder shutdown.) Josh has always been a great resource! I have lots of cool gear that I bought from him. I noticed one negative review after someone called to speak with the owner or manager and was hung up on. I have a retail business myself and in 8 years I've never had a legit customer ask that question, but about twice a day I get a telemarketer who does say that. Its to the point that we often don't even pick up our phone much of the time as we're mostly mail order by internet and we get so many junk calls we can't get our work done. read more

Vacationing in co. Heard great things about this store, decided to upgrade my DSLR while in town, called yesterday and asked to speak to the owner or manager, was told simply "well they don't want to talk to you" and hung up on... Still shocked and confused as to why they would treat a potential customer this way.. So disrespectful and down right bad for business.. Rude nasty people... Will never spend money here and will advise my MANY photofanatic friends who frequent this beautiful area not to as well. Disgusting. read more
