He had valuable insights based upon my goals, the paper colors (warm, neutral, cool), textures and outcomes in black and white. Printing shops generally do not understand true black and white . Back in the days when we walked uphill both ways to and from school, and lived in a shoebox in the middle of the road with one black rotary phone in the house, there was this weird stuff called 35mm film. We used it in "cameras" and it helped us "take pictures". The Slideprinter (aka The Denver Digital Imaging Center) is great for anyone from amateurs to the most demanding professional. Custom development, scanning, retouching, printing - you name it. If you still use Ektachrome or FujiChrome color slide film, this is the place - regardless of you you feel about the alleged obsolescence of non-digital cameras. Where else can you get a custom Giclee print made? --- Note: Cool story mostly useful to photographers and happy endings... --- I had a unique experience towards the end of the standard C-41 process color film print era (pretty much the last film everyone reading this probably used). I had purchased a relatively uncommon C-41 B&W film, and left it in one of my old Nikons for 8 years. The film broke when I was trying to rewind it, and I gave the canister to a standard lame processor (Sam's). Alas, since I removed the canister in the dark of my closet, I had no idea how much was in the metal roll. Turned out it was about an inch - the rest was stuck on my camera spindle, undeveloped, with no proof of film type, other than my word. I didn't know if anyone in town would be able to trust me and process the undeveloped film still stuck in the camera since it did not have any appropriate labeling indicating the chemical development process. I gave The Slideprinter my closed camera and they used a special test to verify the film type, because if we were wrong it could have ruined very some expensive equipment of theirs. The especially LOVELY gift amongst this whole crazy experience is that I was able to convince my 9 year old my Nikon FG was indeed a "time travel" machine. Before I tried to process anything, I had half a roll left, and I used the remainder of the film under the guise that I had a magic secret box. Thus, in the same roll, she could see time zoom by! To see that look in a 9-year old's eyes! It was MAGICAL. Film can still be magical, just like a classic car. I recently submitted my photos to be printed just as their server went down. My time frame was tight and it seemed like I wouldn't be able to get my project done in time but thanks to Rick and Marion and their absolutely outstanding customer service, it got done. I was to bring the photos with me to Boulder the next day to give to my son, but as there wasn't time to mail them to me in Massachusetts, they managed somehow to get them printed and to send them to my son's address and the photos got there before I did. I have used Denver Digital Imaging Center for a number of projects. Initially I was pleased with the work however after a number of projects I have determined that the work isn't up to the quality I expect for the prices they charge. An example would be taking a number of slides into be scanned to CD. When I reviewed the returned scans on the CD all the scans had been saved backwards. This is not something I would expect from a professional imaging location. This required a return trip to pick up another CD. read more

It's very hard to get good scans from E-6, or any type of 35mm film. The Slideprinter meets my expectations, and then some! For what it is worth, I shoot film casually, but outside of the camera on my phone, a 35mm SLR is still my only means of photography. I love the darkroom, but don't have a light sealed room with running water. So even though I can process films, I can't make prints. I have extensive time with a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED, and Lightroom. I ended up selling the Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED, because I grew very tired of the digital darkroom. I hate trying to match the color of a slide when seen on a light table, versus what I have to manipulate on the computer screen. Each image takes time. And out of a roll of 36 exposures, I shoot consistently enough with a Nikon FM2N that the majority of my exposures are going to come out well-exposed. Which means more images to scan! Pfft...I value my time;-) But now I have a place I can trust with my scans. The Slideprinter matches the colors of slides accurately. The sharpness of their Level II scans is not noticeably better than what I acheived my Nikon scanner, but the colors are spot on. And that's what I care about. As for black and white, I will continue to process black and white myself. I'm not sure if I want to pay someone to scan black and white, but if I did not have time to scan the images myself, The Slideprinter would get my business without hesitation. read more

AKA: Denver Digital Imaging Center These guys are great! They do excellent work at a better price than their competition. I am by no means a professional photographer, but I am treated as one here. I was tired of paying for photo developing at larger chains that ended up wrong, photos cut incorrectly, or orders lost for weeks on end. Was treated extremely rudely by who I believe was the manager of this store. Was kept waiting for an extremely long time when I could tell no one was very busy. When he finally managed to spare a second to talk with me he was short and spoke with open contempt and hostility. I felt uncomfortable and left. I do not it if it was because of my race, but I suspect it. I would suggest everyone to avoid here like the plague, you can get prints places that don't treat people like dirt. read more

The people here are fantastic. I currently live abroad and wanted to have some scanned negatives from the library of congress' photo archive printed as gifts for my dad's 60th birthday. They graciously assisted me through the process of getting the files to them, leveled, cleaned up, cropped, printed, and sent off, with unbelievable time and attention paid at each step.
