The catfish on the buffet was really good. The employees are really friendly and keep the ice tea coming. I'll definitely be a return customer. read more

This place has some of the best BBQ around! The food is delicious and the price is decent. Can't beat the service either!

The buffet looks fresh and yummy! It looked like was created and put together with love! The service was friendly and quick .. Thanks Laura ... With her beautiful smile, face and spirit!!! I had a cheese burger with fried okra on the side, instead of FF. Best fried okra I have ever head! Simple. Crispy. Fresh tasting. Perfectly seasoned! The burger was good. They missed my toppings. Is what it is. But the large* bun (as they call it) most definitely had to be removed. Too thick and dense!! The ice tea could use a bit more brewing time. I would give them another try. Maybe the buffet next time! read more

Breakfast is Served! Have enjoyed many delicious meals , and amazing pie,at Mikes. Met a good friend for breakfast last week, and we enjoyed made to order, perfectly cooked breakfasts. The eggs are cooked to order, and the bacon is so good! Good coffee, and Miss Brenda took care of us so we could enjoy a tasty, relaxing breakfast here. Everyone is so friendly, and now, you can come to Mike's for any meal! read more

Wife and I got the senior catch catfish. Three large crispy boneless pieces that were breaded and cooked to perfection. No soggy inside like some places. French fries appeared to have been blanched and then fried. They were crisp and well done in the middle. Friday is steak night and will give it a try next time. Great service and they even gave us a to go cup of sweet tea. BBQ smelled so good that I got a pound of sliced brisket to go. Can you say Saturday lunch!! Will write review of brisket on Saturday. read more

Good food but makes it a 10/10 is the service and Mike. It's common for him to sit down with customers and chat. I go there about three times a month. The buffet is very good but the steaks are noteworthy!!! read more

The bbq was good but not the best. I would recommend different flavors bbq sauces to choose from. The salad dressing (ranch) was not all that great. The Buffett didn't look to good so I ordered a regular bbq meal. I think the bbq sauce could use improvement. Not bad for Dayton, Texas. Service was great by Christine. read more

Mike's Barbeque Catfish & Steaks - Sliced Brisket Platter - Barbeque Near Me - Dayton, Texas

Off the beaten path...Nice, quaint little cafe. Burger special was really good. $10.95 for burger, fries, and drink! Burger was juicy and fries were perfect!! I love the crinkled cut, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a perfect seasoning! Hubby had the buffet and loved the salad bar, tomato relish, and broccoli cheese soup!! He went back for green beans and sautéed mushrooms!! And he said the fried chicken was "on point!" Good-juicy & spicy just like he likes it! Tea was good! Service was great! Everyone was friendly and helpful. They even joked with my injured husband about speeding on his knee scooter! Lol! Bonus: They serve blue bell ice cream! read more

What impresses me the most about Mike's is their commitment to community. They are incredible people who care about their customers and employees. They care about how people experience their food and prioritize quality. They aren't just a restaurant; they are a family and treat everyone with that same love. read more

It's ok. The service is not good. Very clique-ish clientele. Not inviting or friendly. Food is mediocre to poor. Not worth your time unless you're part of the regular customers I'm guessing? read more

The food is not that bad. just a little small buffet area other ways it ok I guess

This was a good buffer lunch for working folks. It was "All You Can Eat", the food was good, and it was easy to get in and out in a short amount of time! read more

Steak Night was disappointing due to the boot leather texture. Both steaks. Keep it simple and stick with buffet is my advice. Waitstaff was on point. read more

I came here about 2 months ago, wasn't impressed. Thought maybe it was me, or an off day for them. It wasn't. Some of the worst food i have ever had to choke down. If I was not on my lunch break and had time to go elsewhere I would have. And the price point for a lunch buffet... They are really proud of the vomit inducing crap. DO NOT GO HERE read more

Wonderful food wonderful service wonderful place it was a 10 out of 10 experience staff was very friendly and inviting and was able to help me out to pick what I want to eat because my first time there and they gave me the best choice on the menu read more

We have been to Mike's many times and it is usually OK. Yesterday afternoon around 4:30PM... not so much. Food from the steam table was cold. Not just lukewarm, but room temperature. Pork chops, mashed potatoes, as well as other things were way off temperature. The last time we were there was about a month ago and same thing, but not quite as bad as it was yesterday. THE FOOD NEEDS TO BE HOT!. If it were hot, then it would be pretty good and I probably would give it 4 stars. read more

Bbq had no smoke ring, beans and potato salad nothing special. Way too much h money for subpar food.

Great food! Ample amounts served! Superb service! Very reasonable prices! Don't miss any opportunity to eat at Mike's!!!

Great relaxed Family atmosphere. Mike's has a wonderful buffet "fit for a King." Always the best fried fish (not greasy and tastes wonderful), fried steak (so tender), other meat choices, a lot of different vegetable choices, beans, corn on cob, etc., great salad bar, wonderful rolls/corn bread, and their desserts (coconut pie, my favorite) is mouth watering - a bit of heaven in the mouth. One can always order from the menu too - their great bar-B-Que sandwiches and platters, plus a lot of other choices. Always great service from friendly, helpful employees, and Mike & his wife are awesome people. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Consistently great food and service! The building could use some major renovations and maybe some new dining tables but overall we enjoy everything we try from here. read more

Their catfish is really good. If you are a power eater this is the place for you. Check facebook for the nightly menu. Friday's buffet is pretty good with the shrimp on it. If you just want a burger it's a great place too. read more

I may have given it 4 stars if the owner wasn't such a jerk to the staff. That is a huge turnoff to the customer.

Was working in the Houston area for 2 whole weeks and I found this little hidden gem the night before I had to leave. God, I wish that I had found it BEFORE then! Don't even bother going to any other restaurant in Dayton! They have all you could want and/or need at Mike's! Sweet tea was perfect and the buffet was "Yahoo!". Catfish was outstanding. Chicken fried steak was pretty good too. Sawmill gravy was smooth and tasty. Green beans tasted just like my momma made 'em. Mashed potatoes couldn't have been creamier or better tasting! Creamed corn was m-m-m! The staff is as sweet as their Sweet tea! This was just what is was hankerin' for some good ol' southern food! I'll miss you Mike's! read more

Mike's Barbeque Catfish & Steaks - Buffet fixins! - Barbeque Near Me - Dayton, Texas

Left a yelp review a year or two ago, that seems to have disappeared. Still suffers the same Achilles heel. Great service, polite waitstaff, clean restaurant with good presentation. All of the vegetables are from #10 cans, potatoes are from powder and gravy is packaged mix. The ranch is from a bucket instead of made fresh.. the bacon bits are fake (baco's). The catfish is pre-battered flash frozen import. Salad boat of iceberg salad mix.. where's the good stuff? The chicken fried steak isn't bad, it's really not. But who wants a chicken fried steak by itself? read more

Mike's burgers are classic and delicious. The buffet has lots to offer including a salad bar. Their steaks are perfect! Definitely a spot for the whole crew to fill up. The only reason I have 4 stars is because the buffet food isn't the greatest quality but there's bound to be something on there to satisfy. Also, if you're going for one of their holiday buffets, go early. We went about 1 pm for Thanksgiving dinner and they were already out of some staples like stuffing/dressing. read more

Very friendly service/tasty buffet/always delicious --that Mike knows his way around a kitchen!!!

The buffet and salad bar are always stocked with fresh food and the BBQ is delicious. Servers are friendly and the owner has been on site every time we have visited. Always a great dining experience. read more

Judy was our server and she was very pleasant. Food was absolutely delicious. We had the burgers and I had the onion rings and my wife had the onion petals. My daughter had the ribeye steak and grilled veggies. Awesome ppl and a Great place. read more

Another great Bacon Cheeseburger with tots! Hot and hand made patty. Tots are piping hot.

It is definitely a mom and pop restaurant. Staff was friendly. I liked that they provided and asked people to wear a glove for the buffet. Food was good, some looked homemade, some packaged. Today it was catfish and chicken fried steak. The catfish was good and clean. Some sausages, beans and rice, mashed potatoes and gravy. Salad bar was decent. A little high for a lunch buffet at $15/pp. read more

This is handmade country food always good don't miss the pie it's a favorite of ours all the time and the staff is very polite and friendly

Chicken fried Steak and chicken friend chicken with gravy is awesome! Ribeye is dang good for way out here. Not as big on their barbecue, but some folks love it. I won't judge. Really great country food, though and amazing pies! read more

They have a buffet if you are in a hurry and need a quick bite to eat. But, the food generally is kind of plain and low quality. They of course offer BBQ among other things on the menu but BBQ is below average for Texas. Very mundane. Not exactly a place that you "crave" if you know what I mean. Parking can be crowded at times but there is additional parking across the street. Staff is the best part, always friendly. read more

Ribs were hard and not much meat on the bones, potato salad was like mashed potatoes with Mayo mixed in. Chopped beef baked potato was very soggy. Our first visit to Mikes so we will try once more just different dishes, the young lady at the counter didn't know the menu for any help ordering and was not friendly, we never even got a smile. read more

Read good reviews from other internet sites, decided to try this restaurant of all restaurants in Liberty n Dayton. It's located behind McDonald's, but entrance on other side. Sign in window shows all-you-can-eat BBQ on Saturdays. Walk inside, and its a treat to look at the numerous posters n signs, many look like real antiques, peanut shells on the floor, and the neat buffets. One buffet is of a boat, for salads, with a tackle box in the bow. The other buffet is of entrees. Great staff there, all friendly and smiling and putting fresh food in the buffet trays. Mike, himself, was there, and his wife, who makes all the pies except for the pecan pies. We think many of his staff are of family. Tables each had basket of peanuts in the shell, a paper towel roll on a Texas-shaped base, and condiments, including their terrific BBQ sauce. We each had the salad boat n buffet for $9 each. Main entrees on buffet were battered catfish, delicious w their great tartar sauce, country fried steak, n battered pork. I had seconds on the fish n pork, after taking off the breading. Mashed potatoes were reconstituted, not good. Green beans not good. All else great. The salad boat had a nice selection. Diners next to us had meals, and they looked very delicious. Seems like diners have been eating there for years and years. Everyone in diner friendly, and all like one big happy family. The homemade pie selection was coconut, chocolate, buttermilk, peach cobbler, and another one, all made by Valerie, Mike's wife. They looked spectacular. The pecan pie was the only one not made by Valerie. Service was excellent. We ordered a coconut pie to go. But it looked so delicious, I started in on it before we left the table, and ate about half of it, even tho I didn't think I could fit another bite into my stomach. Even the meringue had toasted coconut in it. It was THE best pie I can remember ever having! I dream of having another piece again. Maybe I can have one shipped to me. Huh... I'm gonna check on that! Price adds up fast... Two buffets, two drinks, one dessert came to $28, plus tax n tips. I would certainly eat there again. and again. and again with an order to go! By the time we left, about six o'clock, the place was half full. read more

Mike's Barbeque Catfish & Steaks - Barbeque Near Me - Dayton, Texas

This place offers a buffet that you can always count on some fresh and clean fried catfish and a variety of steamed or fried veggies, legumes of some sort, breads, other protein options depending on the day or time, I have often found chicken fried steak but have seen other proteins at other times. They have a salad "boat" bar to visit that is always fresh and has those homemade "canned" green tomato relish I think some have called chow-chow. Their smoked bbq smell alone will bring you in to see what's cooking on that grill! Their homemade bbq sauce is excellent on the fried catfish! (Found this out by accident when it accidentally got on some, and low and behold a new favorite was born! No more tarter for me with that stuff around! So much better! Who'd of ever thought?!!! (Bbq sauce on fish! If you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend it! (Especially there with their bbq sauce) Amazingly scrumptious! Really!) If you ate in the area, planning to visit or just passing through Tuesday-Saturday you should stop in (take the road behind McDonald's to the other road behind Pizza Hut and it will be around the corner on the end of a little strip center before the flower shop) you won't be disappointed if you like bbq, home-cooked feeling/style of food, salad bars & aren't looking for something fancy like snails! read more

No complaints at all!!! My kids and I checked this place out last night and my son told me he couldn't wait to go back before he went to bed. My son is picky as heck when it comes to eating at restaurants, so I had to ask him to repeat himself just to make sure. From the staff to the other patrons, everyone is so friendly. It's family-friendly, so my kids can be loud like they normally are without anyone giving me the good ol' "Can you calm your children down" look. I think I tried everything on the buffet and it was yummy. If I didn't eat it, my daughter did. Buffets make me nervous because I always wonder how long food sits there before it gets rotated, but I watched them constantly bring fresh food out while we were there. My son wasn't a huge fan of the buffet, so I ordered him a cheeseburger and he scarfed it down so quickly that you would have thought I had never fed my child before that exact moment. Being the fatty I am, I tasted it and realized why he ate it so quickly. I tried the pecan pie after my 47th round at the buffet and man oh mannnnn... To die for!!!! After I ate that piece of pie, I felt like my soul had drifted away from me and gone to Heaven. Yes, it was that good. I had someone nearby tell me the German chocolate pecan pie is even better. As soon as she told me that, I started planning our next trip. Right next to the cashier, there's a little ice cream stand. Of course I couldn't deny my babies the privilege of topping their meals off with Blue Bell, so I got them some ice cream cones to eat on the way home. We left stuffed and happy and will definitely be regulars from now on. read more
