Please PLEASE do NOT do business with this company!!! I was disgustingly price gouged by them and taken advantage of, then talked down to by their reps. On 12/29, my furnace (that I had bought from them 3 years prior) stopped working on one of the coldest nights of the year. It was about 11pm so I called and asked what I needed to do since I assumed I was still under warranty with them. The girl on the phone confirmed that my furnace had a 5 year warranty but that since it was after 10pm, I'd have to pay a $350 service call fee. I could not afford that so I asked what my options were. She told me if I waited until after 8am the next day (Saturday) that I wouldn't have to pay more than $50. So I waited and called and was told I'd have to pay $149 for a visit. I agreed since the temp in my house was quickly dropping and I needed the fix. The tech (Bill)came out and was incredibly kind and professional. He then told me I was under warranty and that I'd have to pay the $149 service fee. Then he pointed to a larger number for "pressure switch and off stock part" written higher up the page of $595 saying that it was still under warranty so the number wasn't as high as it could've been and that it was just high for the service fee because of the weekend. Since I had seen online it was a $24 part, that seemed strange. It was also strange that it was an "off-stock" part because he called the warehouse that's in Jacksonville to get one (even though he didn't even go out to his truck to check), who told him they didn't have one, so he said he'd get one off his truck, which he did. But, since it said "$149" in the total at the bottom and the way he explained it made it seem as if the $595 wasn't included because of my warranty, I signed. After the work was completed, he asked for my credit card for payment and I told him I'd already given it over the phone for the service fee. He then told me that I owed the additional fee. I asked what that was and he added the $595 to the $149 and wrote the $749.95 at the bottom of the page I had already signed. I asked what that exactly was for and he said he didn't know, it was just the price in the book. I told him that was outrageous and asked for a breakdown. He told me I'd have to call the office to find out. I thought that was insane but he left. I called the office and spoke with a very rude rep who I first asked if my 20% off from having their service agreement could be applied since I didn't see it on the form. She said it already had been. I told her that part of the form was blank and asked how she could know that if I hadn't even explained my charges to her if I was still under warranty. She said to me "well that's because you had a 1 year warranty". I asked why both the previous customer service rep and the tech told me that I had my warranty. She became very rude and combative with me and copped a huge attitude. I then asked if she could explain the charges and she told me she could not because they come from a book. I told her the tech wasn't able to explain and instructed me to contact them. She said that she had no idea why because he should know. Basically, she argued with every single thing I said so I told her I was ending the call. I then contacted several other local places about the same repair I had and was quoted $85-$150, and nowhere near $750!!!! I am disgusted by the obvious price gouging and how I was taken advantage of because I was in a desperate situation. I would've never ever called them if I had known my warranty had expired, but I was lied to by the first customer service rep I spoke to and the tech doing the work. I will never ever give my service to this company and will warn all of my friends. Do yourself a favor and do not make the same mistake I did. read more

We are "members" in the priority club at Mike Williams. I had called them out to look at and exposed pipe leak. All the pipes are visible. The repair would only require 4" of pipe and the faucet replaced and of course time. The tech looked at me with a straight face and said $577. I had used them before and was charged almost $700 to replace a valve control that listed for $261 on the manufacturer's website. I called to ask about the breakdown of charges. I was told they have a flat rate price structure. This is a scam... DO NOT become a member. Find a honest, trustworthy plumber that charge flat rates and is confident enough to give a free estimate. When we hired MW to help with a total home remodel, our only shower trim option was generic and was told that is the product they use. I told them no. I went to local hardware, picked out something very modern and stylish, loved it! Cost was $650. MW knocked $1000 off our bill since we did not use their cheap item. That is when we cancelled them to finish the remodel along with the annual maintenance club. 5 years later, they still call at least 6 times a year. I don't answer the phone when they call. Beware! Mike Williams quoted my wife over $660 to fix a single burst pipe in our garage (not to mention various other questionable "up sell" tactics). I called to have the quote explained to me (how much for parts, labor, etc.) and was told it's their policy not to explain quotes over the phone??? Needless to say, we had someone come out for a second opinion and, in less than an hour, the entire job was done for $135. I paid $15/mo. for them to service my a/c, they came by a month ago and serviced a/c. My a/c wasn't working yesterday, they came by today and said a piece of insulation was blocking the filter and charges me $226. Definitely over priced and i have since cancelled my "membership". Comlete rip-off. will never use again. Just called them because they were spreading flyers in champaign. Should never have called. They charged over $300 for a quick look without any mentioning how much it would be. Then charged $1400 for motor blower replacement. I did not want to pay, but then the guy demanded $300 for the drop-by (it took less than 15 minutes). Then they further charged monthly $15 for membership, otherwise he said the cost will be $1700. Two sump pumps in two years. Not a good track record. New house with new sump pump that lasedt 6 years, which is about normal. When this went out I called these clowns and they charged me 800.00 and the pump lasted two years. They replaced this pump on warranty and it went out a year later. never again......... read more

This did happen 9 years ago, but it's apparent that things haven't changed. My basement flooded a month after purchasing my house the morning of my daughter's first birthday. Seemed like a big enough emergency, so I looked up a plumber and Mike Williams was the first name on the list. I knew an emergency call would be more expensive and I was okay with that. I knew unclogging this floor drain would cost money and I was also okay with that. An employee came and tried to unclog the floor drain and said that it wasn't going to work and I would have to replace the drain tile up to the street and they would send someone out later for an estimate. I was told it would be $7000 to fix the issue. I called my mom because at this point I'm a 23 year old panicking, new homeowner who doesn't have $7000 laying around for an issue like this. My mom ends up calling my cousin, who called a friend who is a plumber, who came out and somehow managed to unclog my floor drain for $130. I paid Mike Williams somewhere around $300 dollars for their non-fix and attempted con. I live in an area with a lot of tree root problems and in the years since, I have still only paid $130 for an emergency call from a not shady competitor. I am 100% sure that this Mike Williams employee realized that he had a sucker on the line as soon as I called. I fully believe that he lied in order to screw me out of $7000. In the years since I have seen yards dug up with Mike Williams trucks parked outside and I always shutter thinking about my experience and wondering if these people were conned like I nearly was. Make sure to get several estimates if you need a new furnace/ac. These guys cost three times more than the other companies, for off-brand equipment! Yes, they respond quickly if you have an emergency, but you'll pay top dollar for that response. I don't know how they stay in business when they are so much more expensive than other companies. I have never seen such an awful cause of price gouging. I had the service contract where they come to your home and do a tune-up for heat in the fall then A/C in the Spring. While the service contract is reasonable and a good thing to have, it's supposed to give you a discount on any parts/labor needed. I had two components that needed replaced, a flame sensor and an igniter. My bill (after discount) was $694 and the technician was only at my home for 30 minutes. I didn't have much choice but to pay the bill. I called later and did manage to get a partial refund. Then I went and did my own investigation. The two parts could have been purchased OEM (original) for $50. SO if you do the math, I was charged over $600 for a 30 minute job. I continued my investigation by calling other service companies in my area. One company, if they did the same work, told me my cost would have been under $200 ! Also, the owner of the company I talked to during my investigation told me that in 15 years since he's owned his company, he's only replaced 1 flame sensor !! However, I have no issues with their technicians - they don't set the prices and are very knowledgable and thorough. I am terminating their service contract and signing up with another servicing company. I called yesterday to do this and I actually have to write them a signed letter to get this terminated. But guess what ? Their address/fax number/e-mail is nowhere to be found on their website. SO I am going to have to call them again to get that information. Central IL Air, my previous company, was so much better, but MIke Williams bought them out. If you value your dollar, STAY AWAY from Mike Williams. Oh, and in closing, I would like to add that since my furnace is getting older (approaching 10 years), I inquired about replacing the unit. That would have cost me $3500, and the original furnace I paid a mere $1500 for the furnace and labor. read more

This is the last time I use them for any repair, called them out 2 months ago on a "no call for heat" the service tech did not replace anything cleaned a drain line the bill was over $200, call again Feb 27th 2014, 13 degrees out side, they serviced my Trane XE90 furnace for a no call for heat. $1100 for cleaning and trouble shooting, another $800 for switches and a blower assembly. We have been trying to cancel our contract with Mike Williams for the last two weeks. Every time I call (and I have called at least 7 times) they put me through to the Administrator's voicemail. I have never been called back, nor emailed, despite leaving numerous messages with our contact details. And each time I call back to say I want to cancel, I am told that the Administrator is the ONLY person who can do this. Yet she has NEVER answered the phone and has NEVER called us back. This is ridiculous and extremely bad practice. I cannot express how angry, disappointed and fed up we are with this company. read more

so i am new to the area have not lived here a year yet. so when it got hot recently i went to turn on my AC it did not come on. so i called mike williams because i did not know who else to call. i made the appointment for 8am but because i missed the phone call to see if i was home they bumped me. first a reminder call the day before works just fine. if someone makes an 8 am appointment its a good chance they will be home. so when someone finally showed up around 2pm. all they did was look around and tell me it would cost around $3300 to fix and that was on top of the $90 it cost just to get them out here. of course the technician tells me i could save money by purchasing a plan which does not deduct that much from the cost. in short these people just want your money not your satisfaction. i am currently in the process of getting a second opinion i'll post if they are better read more

Gave them one star because I can't go lower. Mike Williams should be ashamed to put his name on these trucks. They ripped off my 75 year old mother. Charged her $290. To charge her central air unit. Then put her in a $9 program with out telling her after she said she didn't want it. Dennis heating and air. Found the leak fixed the leak and recharged her system for $150. We are still having issues with the rip off company (mike Williams) and tell all of our friends about them. Oh they gave her a $900. Estimate to do the job that Dennis heating and air did. Stay clear they are awful. I don't know how anyone working for them sleeps at night. read more

Way overpriced. Have used them before for simple things, but this time needed work on a water heater. Thought it would be simple too, but for a water heater that was only 7 years old and $500 new, they were going to charge $1600 for the repair and we would have to wait 3-4 weeks for the part. Horrible!! Buyer beware!! They will ask you to join and become a "member" or pay a HUGE amount more as a "non-member". As a member they will start charging your credit card $9.95/month for minimum of six months. Then when the six months are up you have a real difficult time canceling your membership. Was charged over $900 to install a dishwasher. All hook ups were already in place from old dishwasher. Was told it would be that much just because they had to go through one cabinet to hook up the new hoses. The installer used ONE single screw to keep the dishwasher in place instead of the two it required and that one screw came out in a month. The dishwasher pulls out from under the counter every time I open the dishwasher and have to push it back in after loading it. WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING EVER AGAIN! read more

CROOKS. They "fixed" our water heater for a very high price and sold us a 12 month subscription to their 24-hour priority service agreement. We woke up the next morning with no hot water and called them, only to find out that 24-hour service means they'd get to us some time in the NEXT 24 HOURS! Run fast from these guys. read more

I used them once and will never use them again!! Two summers ago, I needed a recharge on my air conditioner. They came out charged it and added a dye in so if I wanted they could come back out and look for the leak. They charged me close to $500. RIdiculous! This past summer I needed a charge again and it was now lower than the last time so I needed more refrigerant, another place came out and charged it for me and also spent time putting in new switches and some other small parts. The total bill was $275 for more work, more parts, and more refrigerant and a more expensive economy! I have since heard stories from friends who used them once had to pay ridiculous prices and told me they would also never use them again. Had our AC checked/serviced on March 27th, on June 24th the AC froze up because of low coolant, The plumber we called the find out what was wrong with the AC said that we had 4 leaks and 2 valves with O-ring damage because of low coolant. He believes that the leaks are "installation" leaks and it has been slowly leaking since the unit was installed in 2006. Exactly what did the 2 people from Mike Williams check!!!! I used Mike Williams for a sewer clean out issue. In order for them to even begin I had to agree to enroll in a Priority Maintenance Membership (6 month requirement) at $7.50 a month. They came in with a camera and said my entire line from the house to the street needed replaced and quoted me a price of $10,000. When I said no, they wanted to haggle, dropping it to $9,500. When I still said no the agent acted personally offended. Went to cancel the membership at 6 months and was told I was wrong that it wasn't up and would have to call back the next month and the agent would cancel the membership. Called back next month and had to leave a voice mail at 10am. Was call back the next day and was told I would have to submit a letter to Springfield corporate offices and would take at least 10 days - another $7.50 in the meantime. I could have been told the prior month what the process was and had the letter ready to send. Called corporate offices and was told that I could fax or e-mail the letter. Umm, REALLY?? I think it horrible business practices to not inform someone of all methods of cancellation. Actually had fun reporting them to the BBB!!! read more

wish i could leave a lower review than 1 star!!! when we bought our furnace years ago (Carrier brand) we had no idea that mike williams (the most expensive service in town) was the only ones licensed to work on our brand furnace. so, we were stuck when our furnace broke. saturday morning our furnace quit running. we called mike williams & they were going to call right back. hours later after not hearing from them we called again, they'd call us "right back" and it would be $189. service call on top of parts & labor. it's freezing temps & they're the only ones that can work on it, so we agreed we'd pay. 2 days later we have heard nothing!! NO CALLS back!!! we have spent $300. buying electric heaters to keep warm and our house literally was 34 degrees this morning, now 42 degrees! we've decided to dump this furnace this summer & buy ANYTHING but carrier so we WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS with mike williams again!!! i will actively speak out against them at any opportunity. if they're going to corner the market being the only ones who can service your furnace than with that comes the responsibility to show up & not gouge!! read more

We called to have our toilet put back on the flange after it was taken off for toy removal. Not only were we charged a $79.00 "travelling fee" for the salesman just showing up, we were subjected to a lengthy upsell of what amounted to an insurance policy on our furnace and air conditioning unit. The rep told us our flange needed replaced as it was broken and they could do the work for $800.00 which would include the new flange, labor and the plan we'd just refused twice. His alternative offer when told that wasn't what we wanted was to offer to replace the flange for 500.00, order us a new toilet and charge us $295.00 for it and an additional 260.00 for labor over and above the 79.00 they charge to come to your door. We showed him the door. As it turned out, our flange did not need replaced, the final cost for the work our son did on the now perfectly functioning toilet was the cost of a new wax ring. This company makes it's money 79.00 at a time. The unlucky few who succumb to the hard sell are out a lot of money for simple tasks that can be done by individual plumbers and HVAC techs for much less. read more
