friends, family and myself have used mb heating and cooling . big mistake!!! you will end up in a money pit when they break your units more! then they tell you that you need a whole new unit so you spend 10k plus on a new unit thinking everything will work fine from here on out only to find out that they can't install it properly. So they charge you even more money to fix what should have been installed properly the first time . Absolutely do not use unless you want to go broke!!!! read more

Had them come out and replace a warrantied part. Charged over 800 dollars for "labor". Took them less than 15 minutes to replace said part. Communication is also terrible. They never call back when they said they would. Didn't tell is the final price until after we signed and gave them our card. Came out because the water heater leaked, turned off. Drain valve not working. Drained tank. My bill was $538. Offered me an estimate for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom house to remove tank and install new. Tankless heater way too big for the house. Estimated $5000+. First of all, 500+ to drain, never told me the cost upfront. Does it seem high to drain and nothing else, I hope this not normal or Noone could aford them fir this service? read more

My furnace began making a loud noise when it ran. I called the number of the company that installed it and found out that the business had been bought by MB. They came and diagnosed the problem as a bad induction motor. They said the motor would be around $900. I had them repair it and later did some research on the part they replaced and found out that it's available on the internet for between $250 and &400. I was totally ripped off on the price of this part! read more

For plumbing check with other providers. We asked for an estimate on 2 very simple plumbing operations l(replace existing faucet and toilet) and the estimate was outrageous 1600 dollars.. Called the main office to verify and talked to a person who was going to check about it but never received a response. I called another plumber and they did them both for 300 dollars. read more

We used Sweeney in Rochester for years, but they had been sold to MB Heating & Cooling. A/C capacitor went out and Curtis came to fix it. I understand the after hours fee, but the part was over $300.00. Since he replaced it before telling us the part was $280.00 mark up, we had to pay. I tried to schedule a service appointment for my A/C installed by MB a few years ago, but I wasn't able to. I called twice, and was put on hold twice with each time ending in a disconnection after several minutes of holding each time. I genuinely felt that they either don't want this kind of business, or that they are overwhelmed and don't have enough people to do the job. I'm going to find another professional for my service and I'm upset that the ones who installed my A/C don't or won't service it when it needed service. read more

MB was used by our general contractor (GC) for gas, water, and electrical work for a kitchen renovation. All work was done by unsupervised techs. We don't expect perfection, but expect a reasonable level of competency, honesty, and professionalism. GAS: As the MB tech was finishing up his last work day he announced we would be w/o hot water because the copper line from the steel main to the hot water tank "broke" and he was not allowed to install or reattach copper. He then told us of a home where the gas company "condemned" it because they were using copper. The gas company is responsible only for the lines up to, and the meter itself, and has no power to inspect or dictate what's inside your home. And the state-licensed home inspector we hired before purchase saw no issue with copper, which is fairly common in older homes for appliance connections, though not the first choice. The MB tech indicated it broke while installing a valve because it was bad and not anything he did, so the "repair" was not part of the renovation. Copper can deteriorate over time, but usually as a pinhole leak, and breaks occur due to extreme or repeated bending, and does not rip or shear apart under normal handling as he indicated. The integrity of the line where it "broke" appeared solid, and we noticed fresh tool marks all around it. He stated he didn't have the "proper" line MB uses (I believe flex CSST). Apparently, his office suggested he go to the local hardware store for it, as I overheard him on the phone state they didn't have it, although he made no call other than to his office. He also quoted $588, which was "worst case" whatever that means. The same tech was here twice before, to include inspecting the system to determine what was needed, and could have brought the copper subject up any time, allowing us time to research and make an informed decision. The wife wanted hot water ASAP and due to few plumbers in our area, the 20 ft line was replaced the next day by MB in about an hour. So on top of being inconvenienced we were charged $588 to replace a 20 ft line, including a trip charge that was unnecessary. WATER: The MB tech installed a water line from under the kitchen sink to the refrigerator, running it under the floor. The holes were notably larger than the line itself, and he filled in the gaps with plumbers' putty, leaving them as "finished," including a putty-filled hole in our new floor in plain sight, on the outside back corner of our 36"-wide fridge, vs. behind it. Later we realized the kitchen faucet lines were crossed so that hot water runs with the handle in the position labeled "Cold," and vice-versa. And despite plenty of room under the double sink, he installed the water lines in a way that left no free room for the up and down movement of the weight used to "auto" retract the pull-out sprayer for the faucet. ELECTRIC: After the 2 MB techs stated they were done and left, they were called back due to no power to the garbage disposal. Later we discovered a puck light over the sink didn't work. About 12 days later the senior of the 2 techs returned to get it working, stating it was due to the "Newbie" although it doesn't explain why neither checked their work before leaving. A couple days later we noticed that particular puck and the attached ribbon LEDs over the left side of the counter flicker. Also, they installed a box for a ceiling light, but did not leave the screws to attach a light. These particular machine screws come with the electrical boxes, not the light fixtures. An MB rep did respond after our review, but the message he left sounded tailored more for a difficult customer with unreasonable expectations, rather than one taking ownership, as also reflected in his online response to our review that we indicated to the GC that we were "happy" with the work. But that conversation encompassed the cabinets, carpentry, counter, and backsplash completed by others, not the bulk of utility-related work completed later on by MB. And frankly, we don't want anyone from MB inside our home again. read more

He called 20 minutes before to let me know he was on the way. After doing some diagnostics, Jim gave me three options for a solution. I asked his recommendation based on what he saw. My furnace went out on a Saturday morning. It's been unseasonably cold and I am selling the home soon, so I wanted this fixed sooner rather than later. After troubleshooting for 2 hours, I gave up and called. Tommy G was professional and well-versed. He fixed the problem essentially with the diagnostic service, $120 for a weekend service. He appropriately offered long term solutions and maintenance plans, but given my situation, I declined. Tech came out on a Saturday night to figure out why my furnace wasn't working. Curtis figured out was was wrong in 10 min. He had the part on hand and had me up and going 45 minutes later. I had a great experience with MB Heating and Cooling! I had gotten home Sunday night and it was 51 degrees in my house! The next morning at 730 I called and was told they would be there around lunch time. I was called around 830 and told they'd be there around 10!! I was sooo happy they could come sooner because by then it was 47 degrees in my house!! Cale got there and determined the problem and fixed it. He was great! He figured out the problem right away and was able to fix it all before 1130 that morning!! I would highly recommend MB Heating and Cooling and Cale!!! My house is now toasty warm! read more

First, I am puzzled as to why none of the 27 other reviews, most of which were positive, were not shown here. This is the first time for using this company. The furnace at my rental quit on a Sunday night when it was 30 degrees. Tommy came out and gave me the info on what needed to be done. It needed a new motor, which was what we figured, and the wheel needed cleaning. They carry universal motors so no one ever has to go a night with no heat - a big plus in my book. He advised me up front that doing the same repair the next day would save me almost $500. When he did the repair, he took pictures of the before and after of the cleaned parts. He wore booties to prevent tracking of snow inside. He was very polite and informative and the furnace worked very well. I inquired as to the overall condition of the furnace as it is 14 years old. Where many other repairmen would have told me it needed to be replaced, he said it looks to be in good condition. I was very impressed with him and the company. They arrived in a very reasonable time considering the weather. I will definitely use them again. read more

I have used this company twice, both with good results. The first time was for my furnace that was not operating properly. They diagnosed and repaired the problem. Although the company did do a good job at replacing the part, I have a huge issue with the billing. After paying a $75 dollar diagnostic fee, I was told I had a bad capacitor and that it would be $185.31 to replace it, bringing my bill to a total of $260.31. The actual cost of the part is less than $15 and many YouTube videos show that it takes about 10 min or less to replace and this is with the person explaining what they are doing. I get the companies hourly rate is what it is and I don't have a problem with that. But if the company is sending me a level whatever they explained tech to replace it why do they bill me 35 min of labor (@ $150) for something that I know takes 10 min to replace. When I asked for details on my bill they explained that they markup the product because they stock the item, which I have no problem with if it is reasonable. All in all they were physically at my house for about 40 min with about 20 min of drive time from what I was told. Giving them the benefit of doubt of time and money stocking the part even if they had $30 into the part I paid them $230 in labor maybe I am crazy but I think that is absurd and will never use this company again, and urge all my friends and family to stay away also. read more

My air conditioner quit cooling during the recent hot spell. I didn't know who to call, so I called the company I have done business with out of Rochester. However, I found out they sold their company to MB Heating & Cooling in Springfield IL, so I ended up calling them to diagnose my problem. Part of the problem was due to low refrigerant. They also informed me that I probably should replace the capacitor. Upon receiving the bill for replacement of the capacitor, I was shocked! They charged me $232 to replace a part that costs less than $40 and can be installed in less than 15 minutes. I don't have a problem with MB Heating & Cooling marking up the price of the capacitor, as long as the amount of the markup is reasonable. However, in this case, I believe it was very excessive. I complained to the Office Manager about the excessive charge, but got nowhere. Needless to say, I am looking for another company to take care of my heating and cooling needs in the future! read more

Needed A/C service at my parents house in Springfield the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Darren Patrick was courteous and very competent, and after less than 10 minutes he discovered that a wire had been disconnected from the thermostat to the system. He connected the wire and the system was functioning once again. I understand paying the premium "Diagnostic Fee" of $115 for a Sunday of a Holiday weekend. I still cannot, however, wrap my head around how I was charged another $194.15 coded as a "LOCATE SHORT/OPEN LOW VOLTAGE WIRE" for a total of $309.15. I am totally cool paying a premium on a holiday weekend (even up to $200 for the service he provided on a Sunday of a holiday weekend), but I really felt like I was taken advantage of paying $309.15 for that service call which required no parts and 10 minutes of troubleshooting. But of course the work was done, and I had very little recourse at the moment I found out the charge. I did ask but was told that's how the charges get coded. read more
