They advertise same-day service with licensed technicians that arrive in a "fully stocked" truck ready to complete the job. What a lie that is. I scheduled service Thursday. They called me back later in the day and moved the appointment to Friday morning. Friday morning a tech arrived regarding a water heater and sump install. Quote was 6k. Which not only is that an astronomical quote, but it wasn't even including all of the parts needed. The tech told me I'd need to purchase a bunch of things from Lowe's. The things I'd have to provide were: Powervent Water Heater $1.2k, sump pump $300, sump basin $50, 4 bags of rock $30, 2 50lb bags of concrete mix $8, and a pvc pipe $12. All for an extra $1,600 on to the original $6k quote but now I'm being put to work when I am trying to pay for a professional to do the job. They told me once I get those supplies they would come back out to do the job. Which would be Monday or later. So to recap, I called a "same-day" advertising service on Thursday, was rescheduled to Friday, and then pushed again to Monday with the stipulation of me supplying the parts. So, not only is their claim to arrive ready to do the job a massive lie, but expect astronomical quotes and to do half the job yourself when you call Mike Williams. read more

Absolutely do not trust this business. I was one of their "members". They were supposed to check my AC in spring, I took the day off work, they never showed and called the next day saying "Hey sorry we didn't get around to it we are coming today". I had to work and couldn't do that. They were supposed to call and reschedule and didn't. Then, in fall, they called again to do a furnace inspection, condemned my furnace, then tried to convince me I needed a new AC unit. I had them fix the AC two years ago and the unit is from 2012. I told them I didn't want or need an AC unit but they quoted me for one anyway. They were going to charge $10,060 for just the furnace or $15,260 for the AC and furnace. This was with their "member discount" and they said I had to say yes right away or I'd lose access to an additional discount from their supplier. It was pathetic and obvious that they were trying to scam me. I told them I don't make snap decisions when spending $10,000-$15,000 and got another quote. They assured me I was getting a great deal and said other companies wouldn't be able to come out before winter (this was early October). Henson Robinson came the next week and said the furnace shouldn't have been condemned, but it was due to be replaced (it was from 1989 so I couldn't really argue with them on that). Henson Robinson quoted me at $4,560 and refused to provide a quote on the AC because there was absolutely nothing wrong with it and they felt unethical even providing a quote. They replaced it the next week, in and out with zero issue, very polite and courteous employees, less than half the cost. I called to cancel my membership with Mike Williams. I was told by their employee Liz that only one person, Lewis, could do that and he would call me back. A week later, no phone call. The next week I called back. I was told the same thing. I told them I would see them in Court of Claims if I'm charged again. I had to call back a week later because they STILL had not called me back. Spoke with Liz again who put my on hold to "see if Lewis could cancel it". I sat on hold for 15 minutes listening to the world's worst country "on hold" song on repeat before Lewis picked up the phone and then immediately hung up. I called back and got someone named Katie. I tried to explain the situation and while I did, she put my on hold mid sentence. I hung up and called back AGAIN. I got Liz again who said "oh it was cancelled five days ago. So they could have told me that all along but decided to punish me for cancelling my membership apparently. AVOID THESE DIRTBAGS! Clearly the "membership" is a ploy to try to sell people new furnaces/AC units they don't need. They won't even let people cancel their memberships without trying to milk them for one last month. I checked around and this appears to be the common experience with people who use Mike Williams. I highly recommend avoiding doing business with this company. Clearly their inspectors are incentivized to act like pushy salesmen by creating immediacy and trying to scare people into making snap purchases before gouging them by charging 2-3 times what other companies are charging. As always, Mike Williams' crew sends a text to let me know they are on their way (and this includes a picture of the technician with their first and last names, so I know exactly who is coming). Daniel and Ron were professional in their appearance and demeanor, were friendly and had appropriate answers to my questions. If I could give Mike Williams negative stars I would. I live in Panther Creek and 3 or 4 of my neighbors commented when they saw a Mike Williams van in front of my house. They conveyed that they believe these guys are crooks and after my experience with them I could not agree more. I signed up for their monthly service contract when I had 2 new water heaters installed to save money (at this point I cannot even tell you the amount). In any event, each time they came over (spring and fall) to do their check, they came up with literally thousands of dollars worth of stuff they claimed should be addressed. I know enough to know that most of this was bullshit and overpriced and did the work that really needed to be done on my own at a VERY SMALL fraction of what they quoted. But, believe it or not, that is no the reason that I am posting this review. This morning I called to cancel my monthly service contracts. I was told that I had to provide a signature in order to do so, because they are registered with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That sounded very suspicious but more on that in a moment. I ate the complete inconvenience of driving over to the office on Clear Lake drive in Springfield. When I arrived I (probably a little heatedly) spoke about the ridiculousness of having to provide a signed document to cancel the contracts. The woman at the counter (don't know her name), just stuck with the mantra -- it is because we are registered with the Illinois Department of Insurance. When I pressed, she slid the window closed so she no longer had to talk to me. Wow, talk about poor customer service! In any event, I just got off of the phone with the Illinois Department of Insurance and there is fact no such requirement. Oddly, I can't file a complaint with them because Mike Williams is not an insurance company. In fact, IDOI doesn't even understand why Mike Williams is registered with them. My supposition is so that they can give their customers the bullshit story they gave me in the hope that the inconvenience will cause them to delay or forget about cancelling. I will also be filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as there in fact are laws (mostly as a result of similar practice by health clubs) to prevent businesses from doing what they are doing. You should check out the writeup on Mike Williams on the BBB website. There you will find that they have a rating of 1.5 stars. Hold onto your wallet! Every time one of their cologne drenched technicians comes out, it's going to cost you a bunch of money and they're going to try to sell you contracts in addition to the repairs you need. Every time they do one of their periodic, contracted maintenance checks, they are going to recommend $1000 or more of work that needs to be done. I had one technician tell me my furnace was on its last legs, and that was five or six years ago. I haven't had anything done to it and it is still working fine. and I don't know why the district attorney has not investigated this business for their questionable business practices. So disappointed in MWilliams ! I've used them for the past 12 years against my better judgement ! They installed a new furnace / air conditioning unit 4 years ago in January turned my heat off and said I needed a new one instead of using my common sense and get 3 separate estimates I felt pressured to go with them that day !! As my heat was off in January ! 4 years later I still regret my decision as I feel like I was cheated and had to take a loan out for this over 15,000 dollars ! That also included a new Goodman air conditioner unit which I have numerous problems with it just stopping ! Had Mike Williams Plumbing come out awhile back for a leak I had on the pipe connected in my shower. Was already paying on the year for the Membership. They said it was cost around 400 bucks due to it being cross threaded. Which was not true... I ended up fixing it myself. I called back in January to cancel the membership. The secretary/call center said they would put in the cancellation, but never did. They finally sent a text saying to send a hand written letter to cancel. I was charged an additional 100 dollars for the next 5 months of service. Do not recommend. You are better off finding a reliable local contractor or watching YouTube videos. Don't be scammed, look for another company that gives you a fair price for an honest This is the worst pluming company I have dealt with in my 30+ years of living in the Champaign, Urbana area. I called this company for a water leak in a bathroom. They send their Bloomington plumber who came in late with no moisture sensor. His suggestion was for me to tear the floor and find the source of the leak. So I did that and found that the source of the leak is a pinhole in a copper pipe in a very easy to reach area. I called to have the same guy come in and fix the leak. He looked at the problem, then went to his truck for nearly 30 minutes to come up with the cost of the repair. To my horror, his estimate for installing two 1.0 ft pieces of copper pipe 1/2" and ¾", four joints, and a T fittings was $1,536.00 (see the invoice). Yes, one thousand five hundred and thirty six dollars. The job would have taken an honest plumber about one hour. Total cost of the parts at a local hardware store is less than $30.00. The first visit and the work were done during week days at normal work hours. His response to this ridiculous charge is "in a real world this is a very high charge." My recommendation to any of you not to call this company. What they will tell you is they charge $99.00 to send someone to look and the problem, but they charge by the job not by the hour. In my case, it would have taken about an hour to do the job, but that did not count since their motto is to rob you during daylight and much more at off hours. Also, do not fall for their membership fee scheme that gives you a discount. My job would still have cost $1,230.00. I am submitting this review on their website as well that claims a five star reviews. I am certain they will not publish it and very likely they did they publish other negative reviews (so much for honesty.) Rating on Yelp put this company's services as very poor at a 1 star. read more

I will state that my original review for this company was done when I was most upset with them and I should have allowed the company to respond but I was upset and I got on board the only way I understood to get my feelings across. So with that said, a representative of Mike Williams Plumbing called me earlier today and told me that they would forward my concern (the letter I sent them) and that they would shred my check I sent them ($50) for the remainder of my contracted service with them to come out at designated times to verify my plumbing and HVAC are all running within expected guidelines. So Kudos to a company for stepping up and at least acknowledging a wrong and trying to mitigate the issue. I hope that they at least train their employees to not go for the jugular on day one and be honest with options. read more

BEWARE: Mike Williams ripped me off. They overcharged me by hundreds of dollars when my AC went out yesterday. All it needed was a hard start kit (which is $10 by the way). They charged me $350 for the hard start kit. They told me they were going en a deal because they normally charge $450 for this $10 kit. Then they charged me for a completely unnecessary thermastat, when mine was still working. They sold me a $570 thermastat, promising it was the best around. I just saw the EXACT SAME thermastat on sale at Lowes $70. That's $500 more than what it cost! Even after paying for labor, the total price should have $500 less than the almost $1,100 they charged me. I can't express how angry I am about this rip off and how disappointed I am in the company for taking advantage of people like this. My father in law was a member of local 137 for 40 years. Mike Williams sent out a mailer for half price on a furnace cleaning and safety inspection. I had just purchased the house so I called them up and scheduled an appointment. All this turned out to be was an inspection. There was no cleaning of my furnace unit. The technician drilled a hole in my furnace and showed me that the coils were full of dust. Everything else was working properly. When he was done with the inspection he tried to sell me a membership. Saying if I purchased the membership today I would get a discount on parts and $1000.00 off on a new furnace. To me it was like a salesman trying to sell a timeshare. I told him no thanks and asked him if he had plugged up the hole he had drilled in my furnace. He said he had. When I went downstairs and looked, he had not plugged up the hole he had drilled in the furnace. I ended up patching it up myself. The entire setup was dishonest. I will never use Mike Williams again, nor do I recommend anyone else use them. To unclog a bathroom sink with a plunger in minutes cost nearly $200 because of the way they "structure" their project prices. Further, I was billed for a complete project even though my contractor finished it instead. When I inquired about a refund for the portion they didn't perform, it has taken MONTHS to pry an offer of a refund out of them -- which I'm STILL waiting for! Then they pressure you into an ongoing monthly service fee where they offer slightly lower prices on services, which assures that they'll keep you as a repeat, ripped-off customer. Mike Williams came to my house to check my air conditioner yesterday, Friday. They didn't find anything wrong. They charged me $75 for the call. I understand that. However, when I got home, the air wouldn't turn on. Nothing. I checked everything I know to check. Nothing. I called Mike Williams. They said they would get right back to me. I didn't hear from them. I called again on Saturday morning, no-one called me back again. (each time talking to someone). I called again at 10. Sara answered. She wanted to charge me $195 to get someone to my house to turn our air back on. I explained the situation. She kept interrupting me. She was rude, unhelpful, robotic, and then decided that no-one was available to come to the house. So now I have to pay someone else to come fix my air. Called Wednesday to get service for my A/C, was told I would be put on the list for the same day in case something opened up and if nothing opened then would be contacted to reschedule for next day. Received a call later that night that they clearly could not fit me in same day but that they also could not fit me in for Thursday but could schedule me for Friday afternoon and that would call me before they came. A Mike Williams truck will NEVER darken my driveway again. Had a maintenance policy with them that included spring and fall cleaning and checkup. My maintenance policy read that it covers incidentals (I know some about furnaces - the flame sensor costs $14 from Amazon and requires ONE 1/4" screw to replace it.) the chump came walking in with the furnace flame sensor and and invoice for $300 to replace it. I said I have the maintenance policy and was told it doesn't cover that- AND THAT WAS A DISCOUNT FROM A $350 CHARGE - I told him to go pound it and cancelled the maintenance. THEY ARE HANDS-DOWN CON ARTISTS. The original flame sensor is still good, has a dark spot on the sensor which is typical with use. Some people have their furnace maintenance policy because they are busy, not stupid. I bought a new flame sensor for $18 shipped and taped it to the furnace, it can be swapped in 10-minutes, NOT $350 IN LABOR!!!! read more

First for an emergency Sump Pump replacements when I was out of town (only place I remembered the name for) which left the basement underwater again less than 2 months later, and then recently for a gas leak. For the gas leak, they wanted a load of money but the leak was still there the next day. They were nice and courteous, but expensive. They were prompt. I had some issues with my furnace the day before Thanksgiving. I called and left messages for several companies. Mike Williams was the first (and quickest) company to follow-up on my call. They had a technician available in 45 minutes. The technician was prompt and professional. He diagnosed the situation and guided me through my options for addressing the issue. I'm quite sure I paid WAY more than I would have with most other companies. But, the quick response and resolution of the issue the day before a major holiday was worth the extra money. I called to cancel and was told I had to send a letter. Then they said they would wait two more weeks before they actually cancelled the service. Anything to make a buck. I have never in my life written a bad review about a company, because I believe in giving a company the benefit of the doubt, but I honestly cannot believe the nerve of this company. My husband signed up almost 6 years ago to pay a monthly fee of 20.00 in exchange for getting heating/cooling/plumbing maintenance checks. We used the service two times, but not enough times to make it worth paying a monthly payment, which we still did every month for 6 years. We used the service a month ago, they came and checked everything and said everything was fine. A. few days later, our furnace stopped working completely. I asked them to come check to see if it was something they did to it, and they told me it would be $200 to even check to see if the problem was caused by them (if they decided it was, I wouldn't have to pay the $200). So I would have to gamble dropping $200 for them to tell me they did not cause a problem? After paying twenty dollars a month for nothing for almost six years. I decided against even having them check and went with a different company. I told them I immediately wanted my subscription cancelled. This was on 10/5, she said I would have to send in a letter stating that I wanted to cancel before 10/10 in order to not be charged ON 10/15! -- I thought this was ridiculous and told them so in my letter that I sent in and that they received before 10/10. Today is 10/15 and I WAS STILL CHARGED the monthly fee. I called to complain today, and she told me that the person who checks the mail is not in today?! She also stated she would refund my money, but that she would have to send me a letter saying that I wanted a refund and I would have to sign it and send it back?! They clearly weren't happy with the letter I sent complaining and decided to charge me another month in spite. I relayed this story to both heating companies that I had come out for an estimate, they both laughed in my face, stating it's a known fact that Mike Williams steals money from everyone. It's no surprise they have their facebook reviews turned off. Also check out all the former employees reviews on indeed.com and how it was company policy to scam people. Mike Williams, it probably would have been good business practice to just cancelled my subscription instead of trying to take money from me another month, because I would have not written this review on every website that I could find. read more

If you don't read this carefully it's your own fault. I have never in my 62 years on this earth encountered such a scam company. Just moved to Springfield from California. The basement sludge pump was backing up. Obviously this is not a pleasant problem. Mike Williams sent out a technician. He had me flush the toilet and then stated the pump needed replacement. He never checked to see if the power outlet was good. He never bent over and removed the lid and rubber gasket to check the pump. He never examined the pump or anything close to a normal service call. Never even bent over to listen or do a visual check of the pump. He then said let's go up and he would sit down and make his recommendation. He went out to his truck and brought back a binder with "PowerPoint" type preprinted pages for every type of plumbing problem. He turned to the sludge pump presentation page. My estimate was $1200 or $995 if I paid them a monthly fee and became a member! I told him in my gut something felt wrong and told him I would get a second estimate. He said that will be $69.95 and was polite and left. I called Snells Plumbing and they came out. The technician said let's first check the power and the breaker panel. All power outlets were good. He already did more than the Mike Williams technician. He then got down on his knees, got out his socket wrench and removed the cover and rubber gasket to visually look at the pump and catch basin. He said there's your problem! The pump was clogged and had toilet paper clogging the float which was preventing the float to rise and trigger the pump. Cleaned it out and told me to go flush the toilet and run water in the tub. Everything turned on and problem was solved. I asked how much I owed him. He said they'd send a bill for $67 dollars. He was here for 1/2 hour and solved the problem. Mike Williams came out and charged $70 to lie and deceive the customer. The final Mike Williams con job was this. I called and told Mike Williams Plumbing what happened. I demanded they refund my check. They said only if I would sign a letter that they mailed me. The letter came and they continued the con job. Twice in the letter it stated I agreed that they had addressed my issues. I only had one issue. You tried to scam me and I wanted my check for $70 refunded. The final paragraph of their letter stated that I agreed that I understood the language in their letter. This was not written by a lawyer. Their con letter was just meant to scare you into not writing a honest review of their scam service. Then the check never came. I had to call and ask why. Finally my check was returned. Yes, they finally addressed my concerns. I caught their con job and demanded a refund. Yes, I finally got a refund. Refund stolen money. In their mind that's great service. It's a shame that someone who is new to Springfield or is unfamiliar with how a service call should go could be ripped off like this. I fear for the elderly in this community with these guys running around town. Whenever I now mention Mike Williams Plumbing to anyone who has lived here for more than a week or anybody in the business, you get the same response. Stay away unless you've got money to burn and enjoy a good con job. When the carnival comes to town expect Mike Williams Plumbing to close up shop for three days. They will all be working the carnival trying to get you to throw a basketball thru a hoop that's smaller than the ball. In case you still haven't got the point I'll ask you this. If your car won't start and the mechanic just looks at your car from 100 yards away and says you need a new engine, what would you do? I wish you could give zero stars. Look at my other reviews. I never Yelp anybody. I wouldn't Yelp if there was a hair or booger in my food. Mistakes happen, get on with life and don't be a snowflake. Had Mike Williams come out to service a boiler last week. Used them because they had previously serviced the boiler when last homeowners lived here. It was like pulling teeth to get someone to come out even after two appointments. Charged me $70 dollars to turn the boiler on, then said he found a leak on the pilot light tubing ( flex tubing had to cost no more than 6 dollars and it took 15 min to repair) they charged me $395! Next day i got home from work only to have a house that smelled like gas, called Mike Williams up at 3:30pm, they wanted to charge me 180 dollars for an after hours call after they were just out the day before and the leak was likely from their repair. After an hour of arguing they finally sent someone out 3 hours later. Guy shows up, his gas leak detector is basically out of batteries and hardly working. He says he can't find a leak, but would just call the gas company in the morning to be on the safe side. I called gas company in am, they come out in 30 min,. Sure enough they find a gas leak at the exact location Mike Williams has made the repair. Called Henson Robinson and they sent someone out that night complete repair was done for 1/3 the price. I would never ever ever recommend Mike Williams, customer service was terrible and i just got the sense they were scamming me the whole time. Had a sewage backup and looked up 24 hour plumbers. Called Mike Williams and was told by dispatcher that they would be calling me back soon. Waited an hour and called again. Dispatcher had no idea why I hadn't been called and told me that would be calling me within 15-20 minutes. Waited another hour and finally decided to call another plumber. Thought for sure they would call me the next morning. Nothing. As I have shared this story with coworkers, all of them have said they have not heard good things about this company. read more
