Mike's is a friendly, locally owned place in downtown Fruita. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed the chicken strips with some fries. They have many different dipping sauces to choose from and one sauce comes with certain orders. Mike's also has great chicken sandwiches and several other choices to choose from on their menu. Everyone who works here is friendly and welcoming. read more

When I ordered, I was told all the helpings were generous...and they were not lying. Two full chicken breasts on my sandwich with as many fries as could fit in the box. The food came out quick, everything tasted fresh, and left nothing up for desiring more. read more

If you like fried chicken, it at Mike's! We have been visiting Fruita to ride for years and finally tried Mike's today for lunch. It was fresh, delicious and filling. We had the 3 piece tenders with fries. The tenders were juicy and large. It was like eating 3 chicken breasts. The fries are thin shoestring fries that were tasty. Don't listen to the negative reviews that complain about what they don't serve. Appreciate a restaurant that focuses on what they do well. We will be back! Next time I plan to try the pulled pork. read more

Big fan of this place. Family run business with great food. I have tried the fried chicken dinners, the sandwich, the deserts, and those sides are amazing. The chicken is great, made to order and juicy. All of the staff and owners are super friendly. I read through some of the negative reviews and pretty sure many of these people never ate their food. Try them out and support small business in a small town. read more

Mike’s Famous Chicken - Delicious fried chicken, coleslaw and JoJo Fries. - Chicken Shop Near Me - Fruita, Colorado

I heard a lot about this place and decided to try their "famous" chicken! I was not disappointed! My go to is always chicken tenders whenever I order chicken, so I ordered chicken tenders they are big and ordered sweet potato fries as well as coleslaw. They were al delish! My friends ordered the pickle juice marinated chicken (I don't remember what they called it) and she let me try some and it was tasty! I don't go to Fruita much but whenever I get a chance to visit there, this is one of my fav places to go. read more

Mike’s Famous Chicken - Chicken tenders with coleslaw - Chicken Shop Near Me - Fruita, Colorado

Food: need to work on tastier sides and a few options that are a little healthier. Service: Everyone needs to smile and have a welcoming attitude. Not everyone seems enthusiastic about customers arriving. Ambiance: put more fun signs and funny stuff in the walls. Music? It's sort of blah. How about a grilled chicken salad or a chipotle chicken wrap, or a chicken veggie bowl with rice? Also, maybe a veggie option (save the chickens!) Fruita gets a lot of visitors who mountain bike, hike and raft, and they want healthier options. Less bread and potatoes and fried food, more veg and variety. You've got the Mike theme going for you, just step it up a little maybe? read more

I really dig this new place... a couple recommendations from some local fried foodie aficionados * Get a local'z night with $.50 wings. Or $.25 wings with regular beer price$ * And double fry everything. Company policy #1: nothing leaves the kitchen without the "crisp test" * Crispiness: use the Tik Tok thing where they scrape the fried food with a knife to hear it's crispy and crunchy. PS: I'm not a Karen, I just want you to have a bussin fried chicken place in this highland valley. read more

Visiting from California!! This is definitely one for the books. Chicken is amazing. Super fresh!! Owners are very friendly. Welcoming. Five stars!!! read more

MUST STOP! MUST TRY! This little family owned spot is very tasty! It's not a light lunch but every element of our meal was freshly house-made and delicious! We got the Chicken Parm sandwich & the boneless pickled thighs that were deep fried. In both cases the chicken was moist, flavorful and beautifully cooked. The sides - coleslaw & French fries, were equally as tasty. There were several other options I'm excited to try the next time including their bbq pork sandwich. The service is excellent, everyone was so friendly and sweet. We were welcomed with a warm and friendly smile. They really made you feel like you were home. Can't wait to stop by again soon!!! read more

What a rip! Don't waste your time or money (that's all they want)!!! This place is almost always "out"'of their "famous" chicken even on Thursday and they are only open on weekends!!. WTF? Their chicken sandwiches are all over priced especially for being the "only" food available most of the time. Service is lame and atmosphere is basic at best. You'd be better off getting gas station junk! So sad. Fruita deserves better! Stop acting like a tourist trap and bless the community! How disappointing can you make chicken? Come burn your money and see. Negative 3 stars read more

This is my family's favorite! The hot mess is to die for and the chicken sandwiches are huge! The service is amazing they so fun and nice.

Great Boozy Shakes and great people!! Cocktails are delicious!! Every time we have been here it's been solid!!

I love the salad with chicken. I have never had a salad with so many different additions to it. The boiled eggs and the beets are just great in this salad. I have had this salad at least a dozen times and it never disappoints. My son had the 2 piece fried chicken and he said it was great too. If someone has a problem with the packets of salt, pepper, ketchup, etc. they should just go to some fancy high $$$ place. Mickey O. read more

The chicken is good but they need more side selection. Have at least beans, and potato salad on the menu at all times

The chicken is over breaded and lacks flavor. Sides are not much better not bad nothing great.

This place is worse than a gas station joint. RUDE staff and borderline Obnoxious Price were so bad I can't see how a family could afford to go there Food was bad DRY Chicken, Soggy Fries, sides were bland, only good part was the Coors beer they couldn't mess that up NEVER again. I'll go to City Market and buy a whole chicken that has some taste and moisture to it read more

I heard mixed reviews but I was in Fruita and needed a to go option so we tried it. First of all, the only options for chicken tenders is 3 or 10. Three was not enough and 10 was way too much... and very expensive!!! So I was expecting this famous chicken to blow my socks off and I was sadly disappointed. The chicken was very tough and chewy! Every piece was like that it was super disappointing. For the sides and the price we did get 3 choices which is good for the money. The fries could've potentially been good, but just a few minutes in the box made them all soggy and floppy. The green beans were just ok but the side salad was the best thing we ordered. I think they are still new and getting things worked out so I hope they can perfect the chicken and crisp the fries a bit. Also, for a famous chicken joint it would be nice to have more sauce options. read more

The place is dark. The food is underwhelming. Cornmeal battered chicken. Not exactly what you think of when craving fried chicken. Was like gas station food. Staff was rude. When I mentioned a $15 chicken sandwich seemed expensive, staff said you don't have to come here. Very Disappointing. Will not be recommending to anyone. read more

Tried Mike's Famous Chicken in Fruita. They have more than chicken! My husband got the rib special, and I got the fried flounder! Both were really delicious, we were impressed, and the service was outstanding! Sometimes, they have hamburgers, which I will have to try! We highly recommend Mike's Famous Chicken!! read more

I wanted to love it. I love fried chicken, but here they only have fried tenders and fried wings. I would love a fried whole chicken meal. We ordered jojos potatoes and they were good but soggy...way better the next day in the air fryer. Coleslaw and green beans were good but the chicken tenders were stringy and chewy. The favors were good, the people were delightful, but the chicken could be better. read more

Had Mikes cater an event for us last week, and was extremely pleased with the food quality, as well as the great communication they kept up with us until the event! Good job to Jaime and the crew!! read more

I had the Cajun wings. I asked for extra pepper. They were supposed to sprinkle the wings with Cayenne pepper. Well, I didn't taste any flavor at all. No salt. No pepper. No seasonings at all. They were very nice people but no flavor to their wings. read more

The Restaurant is clean which is why I took a chance on this place. The name "Famous Chicken" gave me an impression that there would be pieces of chicken (Chicken breast Chicken Thigh, Chicken legs, Chicken wings) Not the case so I ordered the chicken chips and coleslaw. My husband ordered the six piece wings and biscuit with gravy. Mine was very good, and since six wings isn't a lot of food he was glad to help me with mine. An odd thing for me was that my $13.00 order of chicken chips came with no dipping sauce. In order to get sauce for this large portion of chicken chips be prepared to pay an additional 50 cents for each small container of sauce. For a moment I thought perhaps the sauce must be really extraordinarily special. Nope just a regular little container of sauce. It seemed a little odd that I would have had to either dig for change or use my card to charge 50 cents if I wanted more sauce than the one small container I purchased. read more

Love this place and so happy they opened a shop in Fruita. Their chicken chips are so good and their jojo potatoes are so yummy. The hot mess was my favorite and had large portions of the brisket and coleslaw. The bbq sauce was delicious and I would love to buy bottles of it. On top of that the staff was so friendly, always checking to make sure we had what we needed and enjoyed the food. read more

I've been waiting to try this place out for a little while now. I followed the building process on Facebook. Today was the day I was able to stop by. Place is a cool "dive" or at least I would call it with a modern twist. Staff was very friendly and nice. After I placed my order took about 10 mins but was smoking hot. The size of the chicken strips were HUGE. They give large portions. The chicken was very moist, tender, and great. Being from the Louisiana were we love a little spice. I wish a little spice was added but still perfect as it was. The Sweet Carolina sauce was on point and great. For the regular BBQ sauce I wish they would make their own cause I know they could come up with something a lot better then pre-package stuff. By far not a complaint though cause everything from start to finish was amazing. I will definitely be going back and if you get a chance I highly suggest make a stop yourself. You won't be let down!! read more

So delicious. The only down side is that everything is so good there are too many yummy things it is hard to decide what to get. The Chicken Chips vs the Mother Clucker is a hard decision that is only matched by the Jo Jo Potatoes vs coleslaw decision. read more

Mike’s Famous Chicken - two girls eating hot dogs - Chicken Shop Near Me - Fruita, Colorado

Awesome fried chicken and the sides were amazing too. Secret: they have a chicken and waffle not in the menu.

The chicken chips were great and the staff were friendly and hospitable.

Forgot pictures but the food was great as always. Had big Mikes pork and slaw sandwich, chicken tenders, hot mess fries and the potato wedges for our side. So grateful that they opened here in Fruita prices are reasonable and we will definitely be regulars . Oh yes and the staff is as great as the food. read more

The chicken is good, however the packets of ketchup, hot sauce plastic forks etc are more like corner cutting fast food franchise. When you have no waitress but shill for a tip anyway at the register is cheap and disgusting. You are a family owned business there is no $2 an hour waitresss, just entitlement.... read more

Amazing food! We stopped by for the first time after a couple of attempts where we missed closing, and we were not disappointed. It was a little weird being the only customers there, but I guess 2:30 isn't around peak hours. Chicken tenders were large and delicious, as were the fries and jojos (larger potato wedges). They have several very unique sauces. Not outrageously priced, and portion sizes on the larger end for sure (2 tenders per person was about good). We will be going back for sure! read more

Being a native to Fruita, CO most of my life, I was really looking forward to eating at this joint! Staff is super friendly and helpful, with a fun chill atmosphere! I got the chicken tendies, which were sub par... my fiancé got the pulled pork which was yummy. The only complaint I have is, that it's a bit pricy for the quality of food and drink you get. read more

Tried this place after hearing about it from a friend! Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The wings were amazing and the sauces were great. We tried the house hot and garlic parmesan, yum! The food tastes and appears to be cheap prepared frozen. There is bad thin crust that is greasy and over cooked. The fries are as well over cooked. WAYYYY over priced for all on menu. DO NOT waste your money. McDonalds tenders are much better! read more

I guess I should point out up front that I'm from the south where Fried Chicken is an art form. I moved to Grand Junction 15 years ago and I've been looking for something comparable ever since I moved here. Great Fried Chicken is a combination of two things, great tasting crust and chicken that is brined and/or marinated to tenderize and flavor the meat. Some restaurants also employ pressure frying (Colonel Sanders) and many Broaster Franchises like the markets here. I noticed both Safeway and City Market have pressure fryers BUT they never close the lid. Go Figure. Pressure frying prevents chicken from losing moisture although so does brining. Fried Chicken doesn't have to be so seasoned that it sets your mouth (or other parts of you) on fire (Popeye's). Some seasoning however is needed to flavor the crust and meat. So, Mike's most closely resembles to me Grandma's Fried Chicken in a Skillet. The oil has some hints of Crisco shortening and the chicken is essentially unseasoned except for a light flour coating with some salt. The pieces didn't seem brined at all, but were not "too tough to eat". Neither were they "tender and juicy". The Fryer Chickens they are using are on the small side, and the restaurant can't tolerate any waste (due to small volume) so you can only order a whole chicken or a half. They have tenders, but if you really want those, go with City Market. They don't dry theirs out. All in all the chicken wasn't BAD it just was definitely NOT memorable, either for the taste, portions, or tenderness. What was memorable was the price. City Market or Safeway gets about $10.00 to $12.00 for a whole fried chicken. You can order all the fixings there as well. Mikes gets $24.99 for a whole chicken order which does not come with any sides. As to the sides, the cole slaw was pretty good. Fries were shoestring and definitely overcooked. Also, they don't start frying until you order, so don't be in a hurry. This isn't "fast food"! The "dine-in" atmosphere was good. It was clean and spacious. It's a shame, because I think if someone here in Grand Junction or Fruita would go down South and learn HOW to create Great Fried Chicken, I think there would be a market for it. I do think that it would have to be EXCEPTIONAL however, to command $25 per bird. read more

This place was terrible, chicken was so dry and portions sucked. And don't forget the ridiculous price!!!

Awesome fried chicken. Very friendly service. Eat here often. Bbq is also very tasty. Favorite place in the Grand Valley.
