Perhaps I like this place better than I might, because I'm just not that conversant with the all-you-can-eat culture that pervades much of this country (but not where I live, so much.) I've been to Mikata twice now, and was surprised to enjoy it both times. Perhaps it's partly the novelty factor, but I actually enjoyed most of the food. Is it fine dining? Certainly not. Is it Chinese, or Japanese? No, not really. But it serves up an assortment of foods that, if generally not very healthy, are tasty, freshly made, and endlessly plentiful. It's busy enough that trays are constantly coming out of the kitchen, and the sushi guy is always busy making new rolls. And their stuffed mushrooms are delicious. This is the typical, all you can eat, buffet style Asian cuisine. Most often the food served at these buffets is a large variety and mediocre. At this place it seems that there's just something off in the preparation. In other words, the pizza or sesame seed chicken looks correct and has mostly the correct taste, but it just isn't quite on the mark. This buffet is no different. The taste was ok and the food was edible but you left not feeling satisfied. The salad bar was especially poor. Your options were iceberg lettuce and black olives. If you wanted a few more items such as mushrooms you could walk over to the grill area. I did not try any foods from the grill nor any sushi. Most foods were over cooked or dried out from being left out so long. Desserts were offered. The best option wad the ice cream although there were pastries, Apple pie?, and fruit. For $13.95 I think there are better choices out there. The price is significantly more if you enjoy the crab legs. If you want a big variety of food or have a bottomless pit for a stomach this might be for you. read more

After reading the reviews I had my hopes WAY up there. They have everything you can thing of, sushi, fried foods, the typical Chinese food, and oysters. We went specifically to check out the sushi and oysters. We went around 3 and the price was fine 19.99, we sat at our table and our server sat down 5 plates for us. Iv never been to a buffet where they give you plates at your table but with covid an such I'm ok with that. Masks are required as expected. The fist thing we did was fill up our plates with sushi, the rice was a little dried out and tough. We thought maybe it would be fresh as it's so busy but unfortunately it was not. The rest of the buffet was fine, nothing was hot or tasted fresh it was all just... warm, room temp and if it was fried then it was soggy. Went to Mikata today after not eating here for over a year and a half. Should have stayed away and that's what I will do from now on. They have signs everywhere stating masks are required. I was good with that especially as this is a buffet situation. Unfortunately there were several people up at the buffet tables with no masks!! Not one staff member said anything to these people. When I spoke to the cashier on the way out he insisted that they require that masks be worn at all times except when seated and eating at your table. This is not what I saw happening at all. Needless to say I will not go back there again. There is a reason for rules at a buffet and these people don't enforce any of them. I am so done with this place. Place was dirty dark and dingy! Food was cold and hard like it's been sitting too long. Food trays were empty and had to wait for more food. The ceiling had mold around the vents and some ceilings tiles missing. Bathrooms were very dirty and toilet paper on the floors with tile missing on the floors. Wonderful buffet. Incredible selection. Delicious sushi. Excellent food. I love oysters on the half shell and they have them on ice on the buffet. They also have giant mussels, cooked on the half shell. The baked salmon is sometimes a little over cooked for my taste, but the baked Swai or Bassa is a yummy whitefish that just melts in your mouth. For dessert be sure to try the green tea ice cream. I found a FLEA in my corn and when I notified the waitress she picked up my corn (that i had already bitten into) with her hands and stuck her fingers all over and argued with us that it was not a bug and the manager did not do anything to resolve the issue, we were still expected to pay in full. For what it is, this place is exceptional. I'm a fairly large person and know my way around a Chinese buffet, having once closed down the old "Canton Train" buffet back in the late 70's. But I digress. I'll start where all reviews of Chinese buffets should start - the cheap sushi. This place offers cheap sushi and it is exceptional. It's probably not "fish" in the traditional sense, but it's colorful, there is a wide variety, it all appears fresh, and appropriately soaked in wasabi and soy, it's delicious. From there, there is a hibachi grill, which I did not partake in as every buffet expert knows the key to a good buffet experience is getting as much in as quickly as possible. I can't be bothered to wait for someone to whip up a hot meal when there's 30 different hot(ish) experiences that I could be rapidly filling my feed hole with while I wait for the 3 pounds of sushi to tell my brain I'm "full" when I damn well know I'm only $4.73 into my $17.99 expenditure . Leave Hibachi for the amateurs. Otherwise, there's something for everyone. There's some barbecue-like food for Northern Florida folks who don't know what barbecue is. There is a crazy seafood bar with crawfish and mussels for the West-Coast Floridians who don't know what salmonella is. And there's, of course, Chinese food. A ton of Chinese food, served the same way I like my women, hot, cheap, and easily accessible. The wait staff is attentive and have the most important parts of the job down - they stay out of your way and bring you plenty of napkins. So, if you are willing to brave the fats and tats of your fellow humanity, this is a great way to spend 2 hours on a Tuesday. 5 stars! read more

I'm going to say upfront here--I have a love/hate relationship with buffets. I love that you have the opportunity to sample all these different kinds of food with cost not being an issue. On the other hand, the food is not usually that well-made, you have to really keep your portions in mind, and there are usually an inordinate amount of babies seated around you. Mikata is a pretty typical buffet in those ways, and there's nothing really interesting enough to make me want to return. Best buffet I've been to in quite sometime. Everything was hot and fresh. The sushi was good and had a nice selection, not just kani in every roll. Hot and sour soup was made well and the baked white fish and baked salmon were both very tasty. The peel and eat shrimp bar also had crawfish and they were packed nicely on ice but the ice was covered with plastic wrap so the raw bar was cold but didn't make it wet with melting ice. My friend took me here to have a buffet style diner for around ten bucks. While I was serving myself from the buffet I put a cluster of snow crab legs on my plate( you know the kind you buy frozen from Sams club) anyway they charged me ten dollars more for the crab leg. When I said I didn't realize it was more for crab legs the management got very nasty and raised his voice and said: to bad you ate crab leg now you pay :$24.99 !!!!!! The food was ok but the manager ...., please I was going to bring my family back Saturday but for one crab leg, I will never go there again!! Absolutely disgusting. I can feel the food poisoning already. Don't waste your money, time or appetite. The last time we ate here the experience was favorable, but tonight I am truly disgusted and annoyed that I had to pay money for the experience we had. The place is filthy to begin with, we should have walked out when the rude waitress set dirty plates down on the sticky table for us to bring to the buffet. I let that go. I should not have. We should have walked out right there but we gave it a shot. I went to the restroom before heading to the buffet line and it was absolutely filthy also. No paper products whatsoever and no working hand dryer. Gross. At the buffet many of the food items are totally uncovered and not behind a sneeze guard or anything and others are literally on top of other items. I figured I'd be safe having hibachi since it's prepared right there. Nope. The area is filthy, both sides of the counter, the raw meats and vegetables look like they've been there all day with some also uncovered and I witnessed one of the employees take his mask off, cough in his hands, and go right back to preparing food. The little bit of food we did have was cold and pretty gross. When I attempted to speak to the manager about the situation I was met with aggression and was told that I was just looking for a discount. Then he had three phone conversations while I was standing there. Again, I should have just walked out but I stayed and paid the bill as he's telling me he was going to call 911 if I walked out. Food is good for the price if you're dining in but not worth it if you're taking out since you can't take seafood or sushi and it costs the same as the buffet. Not worth it. Ive been there 4 times. I am a fan Chinese buffets but I am very critical of the freshness and temperature of buffet food. i watch staff closely to see how the keep the line clean and stocked. I like their selections, and the food is decent. I have had much much worse here in Florida. Ive stopped in for lunch every time and have not been disappointed , not once. Supposedly hot food was room temperature. Fried chicken wings were dried out, I was not able to bite into them. Vegetable omelet also was only room temperature and tasted of rancid grease. White fish; room temperature and it tasted bad. The only thing I was able to eat was the fried rice, which also was room temperature. My husband was only able to eat cantaloupe and orange wedges.Then, I was ill after we got home. Will NEVER go back there! The health department needs to check this place out! What a shame! To make things worse, kids were running around the buffet tables, and yelling, and nobody on staff intervenes at all, or seems to care that the kids could run into people and knock them over. read more

Mikata buffet has a pretty large selection of choices. But quantity does not equal quality. I was pretty turned off by most of what I tried. Full disclosure: I've never been the biggest fan of Chinese buffets. But I can tell you that I've had better. The sushi in the back and the oysters on the side did not look fresh at all, so I avoided them. What I mean by that is that the oysters and the fish had a matte, colorless look to them - they lacked the saturated color and glossy sheen of a fresh piece of fish. I did enjoy their steak and peppers, and salt and pepper chicken. Everything else, even the green beans and broccoli au gratin, had a strange aftertaste. I love veggies...but I know that they aren't difficult to prepare. The green beans were just funky and that freaked me out. The service was friendly and attentive for a buffet. There were several waitresses on our side of the restaurant, constantly filling glasses and attending to patrons. But the food was forgettable, and I probably won't go back. read more

My wife and I joined a couple of friends for dinner at the Mikata Buffet on US Highway 1, Saturday evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the vast array of beef, chicken, pork and seafood sautéed and stir fried dishes offered to choose from. The serving dishes were refreshed often, giving you another taste of your favorite dish hot right from the kitchen. You can also create a hot bowl of Mongolian Beef filled with crisp vegetables that you pick along with a variety of sauces to flavor for a perfect dish. People filled the seats as soon as they were empty. The staff was attentive and courteous. Mikata Buffet has something for everyone.
