Drove to this small cozy place today and happy I did because enjoyed the experience. The waitress was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. My friend had the cat fish fingers with hush-puppies and fries and said all were delicious. I had the Cobia burger with fries and did not put any sauces on it because was delicious on its own (I did ask to substitute gouda for the American cheese since I don't consider American cheese, cheese, and so I don't eat it). This little spot tucked away in Rio offers some much needed variety to the restaurants in the area. We went on a Sunday not knowing they have an all you can eat buffet that day. Ordinarily I would shy away from a seafood buffet at the end of the week, but the fresh oysters were delicious and the proteins are cooked to order. That included fried locally sourced gator bites and fresh frog legs, which I hadn't had in ages. The fried green tomatoes were cooked perfectly with a cornmeal breading and a side of adobo corn salsa. Their cole slaw is the best I've ever had and each table has a caddy with 6 delicious homemade sauces to choose from for dipping. They also have a great selection of local beers on tap. Did I mention how sweet and attentive the staff were? You can tell they take pride in their food and didn't hesitate to tell me everything is made fresh in house. I came in with my family on whom on a Sunday afternoon. My wife decided on the buffet but I'm not the buffet type so I chose the blackened cobia sandwich. I noticed that they do have the same cobia that they use for the sandwich on the buffet but they make it fresh to order when you get the sandwich. For $18, it comes with a side of fries. The sandwich and the fries were both delicious and our service was great. I washed it down with a nice milk stout and called it a day. I went for their unlimited snow crab deal on Wednesday, and during my dinner they checked in at least 5 times. I never ran out of drinks or plates of crab. Mya and Sangeeta were our waitresses, they're so friendly and helpful and made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Went to Lightsey's on a whim and asked Siri for a recommendation for good seafood. Upon arriving on Saturday at noon, we were the only two there. Ordered gumbo and my wife ordered the chowder. Gumbo was average and really should be called a soup. The chowder was okay too. The hush puppies weren't completely cooked but I think that's the way they serve them. If you're not real picky about food and want seafood, this may be the place for you. Not cheap either read more

Great spot for lunch! I highly recommend the hushpuppies and trying all of their sauces, which are all made in house. I had the sweet potato crusted grouper and it was delicious. The portion sizes are great and really these are phenomenal hushpuppies - super tender and crisp and perfect with any of their sauces. The fries were hand cut too! Went there last night (Wednesday) to get their snow crab for $37 for 1.5 pounds. On the menu, under that item, it said "All You Can Eat Wednesday". Of course we thought that on Wednesday's, it meant all you can eat for that price. I got the bill and it was double what I was expecting. I asked the price for all you could eat and was told it was 60 something dollars. This is deceitful, and after stewing about it all day, I called and asked to speak to the manager on duty. The girl said there was none. When I asked when that person would be in she hung up on me. I called 3 more times and she wouldn't answer. There's a group of about 20 of us from Safe Harbor Marina that go there regularly. They just lost an enormous amount of business. Not only will our group never be going back, but we're spreading the word throughout our community. This is a terrible way to do business. Hopefully nobody else gets duped and then disrespected like I was. read more

What a very cute place with a very original menu for the area, people were very happy with this visit. I had the warm spinach salad that was amazing with Gouda cheese and bacon, and you can get any protein on top that you want. Next time I would try a fish protein. Great covered, screened in outdoor seating which is dog friendly. The server was friendly and quick and brought us our drinks and our dog a cold water without us even having to ask which was nice. We were the only ones sitting outside on a Saturday and there appeared to be only a few people inside was well. Despite this, it took a bit longer than anticipated for us to get our food. I wouldn't have minded the wait if the food was excellent but it fell a bit short. The hush puppies, French fries and blackened shrimp were excellent although one of the shrimp was not fully cooked (still grey by the tail). The accompanying coleslaw was a large serving. It was fine not stellar, think typical mayo based coleslaw. The sweet potato encrusted grouper salad was a large serving for the lunch size. That being said it was really disappointing. The sweet potatoes 'crust' was hardly a crust at all and fell off the fish. The papaya and mango in the salad were not fully ripe. The spring mix was about a day past its prime resulting in slimy pieces. It was under seasoned and underdressed and I just cannot recommend it. I think if you stick with fried or blackened here you'd leave satisfied. read more

We are always on the prowl for pup friendly establishments and Lightsey's did not disappoint with an extended play screened in porch with a full length alligator crawling on the roof near the entrance. Our dog loved the iced water bowl and cool patio floor. We have driven past a few times on our way to Indian Riverside Park and now we wonder why we waited so long to try it. This is the old Florida dining experience we have been waiting for. They have in house caught fish such as grouper, an array of sauces including a peach glaze and key lime and sweet blackened and a spice concoction all their own in addition to the usual suspects of tartar sauce, salt and pepper. Kelly, our server, could not have been sweeter and she personally had a hand in making fresh papaya and mango salad plus killer peach cobbler. Every dish is made to order with serious love and I suspect a few family recipes. I had the lunch portion of the grouper sandwich blackened without the usual brioche bun. Fries were serious as in a crispy layer of crunchy fried perfection. Grouper was spiced but not swimming in it and was that real butter I tasted? Because it tasted full of flavor with a hint goodness only real butter brings. I'm not normally cold slaw people because I hate mayonnaise but this has just the right tartness, almost like a vinaigrette with perfectly thinly sliced cabbage and carrot. Sweet tea accompanied my late lunch and it was a work of art. In a HUGE Ball jar with the tiny pearls of ice, sliced lemon wedges and honey sweet and plentiful. They even give you a take home sweet tea if you want. I had the smaller lunch grouper portion and it was very generous, I can't imagine how huge the full dinner portion must be. My husband had the sweet potatoes encrusted grouper with the fresh mango papaya and razor thin fermented radish salad over spinach and mixed greens. I had to help him finish as the portion on the salad was huge but so tasty we did not want it to go to waste. The grouper was very well seasoned, with the crisp coating and hint of sweet potato sweetness. So fresh. But the hush puppies, PLEASE add those to your culinary bucket list. Perfect texture, hint of sweet, fresh corn, fluffy warm inside. You will not get anything better anywhere. How do they do it? I've had Cock of the Walk's world famous Little Rock fried pickles and hush puppies and up until now I thought I had tasted the best. Lightsey's are better!!!! They love what they do here, the Southern hospitality is strong , attentive service, and with the laid back Rio location Lightsey's is perfect for locals and visitors alike. Oh my God what a find! Little place with BIG flavor. We split a pound of blackened shrimp with sides. The shrimp was so amazingly fresh and flavorful, that we ordered another pound. Both the hush puppies and the Cole slaw were great. They have several sauces to enhance your taste buds' journey, but the food was so good you didn't need anything extra on it. Our server, Kelly, was the kindest person! She was sweet, attentive and engaging. My only regret is not having room to try the peach cobbler on their menu, but that's what the next trip will include. read more

We tried Lightseys for the first time last night. I would give this restaurant 5 stars because the food was excellent and the atmosphere was really chill. However, the service was really slow. We finished eating and waited for 20 minutes for our check or for anyone to come back and just check on us. It looked like it was just the chef and one waiter working and both were doing their best to keep up but they were super understaffed. I ordered the half pound of Cajun Fried Shrimp and my bf ordered the Blackened Grouper Sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious and fairly priced. At the end of the day even where the service was lacking, the food made up for it and therefore 4/5 stars and we will come back. read more
