I came in today to grab an order for the office. The line to order was long, and inside, there are tables, so you can also sit down and eat here if you would like to. Ordered for take-away and while waiting I had a large cucumber drink which was delicious! I ordered for my friends and they had come asada burritos, quesadilla, tacos, and much more. I also got the fresh chips for $1.00 and in this fridge by the cash register, they have sauces that you can buy! So delicious and very fresh. I always been curious about this spot after taking my cars to auto shops in the area for years. Never really thought it was an active store because it's hidden, but after today's visit, I found it does get busy. Today I ordered a fajitas platter, a couple fish tacos, and a chili rellano. The fajitas were packed with chicken and you get the side of beans and rice (and fries). They also give you chips with the meal. The fish tacos were standard, but good, ok for $4. Really enjoyed the chili relleno, and might get it in a meal next time. Overall, food was good, and I was surprised how nice it was inside considering the location. My only issue was that they seem short staffed and take longer because of this. read more

Mikasa is a small Mexican restaurant just off of Valley Blvd in Walnut. For a first time visit, I ordered a Chili Relleno Burrito, Deluxe (Wet/w Red Sauce) and my friend had the Mikasa Omlette (Ham, Onions, Tomato, Bell Pepper, Cheese) with beans and rice. My burrito was medium, average sized. Just enough portion to satisfy your hunger but not large enough to where it really filled you. The filling and ingredients were fresh and melted, the red sauce gave it nice moist flavor. My friend really liked her Mikasa Omlette and it definitely looked good sized, along with all of the grilled fillings and melted cheese. The meals came with a small bag of chips and a plate of both hot and mild salsa. They do also sell separetely, large bags of tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole. For being a small restaurant, their have a lot of variety of menu items. If you are looking for a hidden place, that is quiet and does not get too crowded, this seems like a nice place to have breakfast or lunch. Constant to go pick up orders. I ordered in advanced through yelp and got their chicken taquitos. I was craving some rice and beans and their rice and beans definitely fulfilled my craving. My order was ready for pickup earlier than the estimated time. They packed a side of guacamole and salsa fresh. First time visit for my mom. My mom ordered soup to go shortly before closing and brought it home. We live about five minutes away, so it was eaten right after purchase, which makes the timing important. Later that night she became very sick and experienced vomiting and was unable to sleep. Because of how quickly the symptoms started, I called the restaurant the next day to let them know so they could check the food and be aware in case something needed review. I called and asked to speak with a manager. I was given the runaround about who the manager was, and only later was told the person I was speaking with was the owner. That lack of transparency made the conversation more frustrating, as I was trying to report a food safety concern and ensure it was taken seriously. I explained who we are, what was ordered, and what happened, and asked that the food be checked. I was persistent in getting my point across because I felt the concern was not being acknowledged. The response was dismissive and felt hostile. I was told their food is "ALWAYS GOOD" and that it "MUST BE" allergies. During the conversation, she stated that I could say my mom has no allergies just like she could say her food is always good. I was not asked questions about timing, symptoms, or the order, and no effort was made to document the concern, offer follow up, or provide any resolution. I understand restaurants may not be able to determine the exact cause of an illness. However, how concerns are handled matters. Transparency, documentation, and willingness to review the issue would have made a difference. Sharing this experience so others are informed and so the restaurant can improve how customer food safety concerns are handled. read more

Sometimes some of your best meals are found off the beaten track. Such as this place. You could easily drive by and miss it off you're not looking. Butt once inside you place your order, sorry down D wait for your Ford that comes out surpassingly quick and it's piping hot. Can I just tell you that the Al pastor is seasoned perfectly. Full of flavor and the carne asada tacos that I ordered we're just as delicious. Personally, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the SGV. Everything I've tried at Mikasa has been delicious. I love coming here for their flautas and that green guacamole salsa is to die for. I had been wanting to try Mikasa for awhile now, but did not get the chance to until this past week. Due to the weekday lunch rush, I phoned in my order before arriving. (Prior to placing my order, I scoured their website and menu to try to decide on what to order. There are so many items on the menu that I love and want to try, but had to decide on 1 item.) I almost passed the restaurant (while driving on Valley), and there is no street parking allowed. The parking lot was packed, but I was lucky enough to find one last parking spot at the front. Some cars were even double parked! Deluxe Carne Asada Burrito (1/2 Red and 1/2 Green Enchilada Sauce) includes a small bag of chips w/ salsa $1 Small bag of chips Agua De Melon/Melon Aqua Fresca I was greeted immediately as I stepped inside and boy were they busy! On the table, in front of the register, I noticed a bag of chips and decided to get one bag. It was such a nice deal of $1! They were so fresh and perfectly crispy, can tell that it was fried from their tortillas. When paying, I did not notice there would be a credit card surcharge of 3%, until after I received the text for my receipt. (FYI for those just in case!) The Deluxe Carne Asada Burrito w/ Enchilada Sauce came HOT, so hot that the styrofoam container was warped by the time I arrived back at my office, which was only a few minutes away. I did not know that a small bag of chips and salsa were also included with my order, but I do not regret purchasing the extra bag of (very fresh and delicious) chips! The Agua De Melon was so refreshing as well! Everything in my meal was the perfect comfort food that I expected. I do wish that there was a bit more carne asada ratio compared to the rice, and also wish that the carne asada was a bit of better quality - some pieces were a bit too chewy and inedible. Other than that, the flavors were delicious! Overall, I would most definitely come visit again and cannot wait to try other items on the menu, especially with reasonable menu prices. Came in expecting a solid Mexican meal, but honestly, it missed the mark. The fries were soggy, even though we asked for them crispy. The menudo was bland--needed extra sauce and salt just to give it some kind of flavor. The steak was dry, thin, and chewy, and the eggs were cooked wrong--we asked for sunny side up and got over hard instead. The rice didn't taste like Mexican rice at all--super bland and forgettable. Even the chips and salsa were off. The chips were overcooked and tasted a little burnt. Service was decent, but the food just didn't hold up. Not somewhere I'd return to anytime soon. read more

The restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall joint that is tucked away in a very small plaza next to a few mechanic shops. I arrived here for lunch yesterday with coworkers and I was blown away by the meal I ordered. I ordered a deluxe chicken burrito with red sauce which also included a side of chips, dip, and salsa.
