Mikado West really is as good as it gets. I have eaten at the restaurant for several years and never have I been served a bad dish. Today, I was blown away when I happened to get the second delivery order in a row to be missing ginger (not that big of deal regardless), I called the restaurant to let them know... not only were the employees quick to get me through to the manager... but the manager **hand delivered** the ginger to my door. This type of management and concern for customer service is unfortunately rare in the industry. I am beyond impressed and thank Mikado! I will recommend your restaurant anytime. read more

Boy where do I start with this one? We had pick up from Mikado and ordered a few rolls and maki rolls. When I got home the maki rolls were actually cones, there was no ginger and the big roll was missing half the toppings like tobiko and the sauce. When I called to inquire they put me on hold and never returned the call. They eventually answered a few days later and I sent photos etc. They never offered a thing to compensate and I wasn't overly impressed, hence this review. So expensive for what you get read more

I frequent all three locations of Mikado. It is consistent in quality and service. One of the better sushi restaurants in Edmonton. Nothing fancy or particularly unique but reliable for a quick dinner out. Glad that I made a reservation for our group of seven tonight would have been waiting a long time otherwise. Food: Mikado has excellent tasting sushi, good selection of drinks. Price: Price is higher than most places, but I suppose that is because the quality is a grade higher in food. Service: West: Pretty average. I have been there twice, and the West Mikado service kind of sucks. They do the bare minimum. I made reservations and the first thing they say when you come in is - "You have until 8pm, there is another reservation after you." And then the waitress comes the least she has to. Never filled our tea, and then took FOREVER to actually take our credit card so we could pay. Mikado is a great restaurant, but if you want good service DO NOT go to the West Location. I have been to the Downtown location and it leaps and bounds better service-wise. read more

I have been to this location many times and I always have a good experience. The sushi is always fantastic, and the service is consistently friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. Having said that, I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers that I find the prices a bit high. It makes Mikado a nice place to go for a special evening but not exactly a go to sushi place. I do highly recommend this place for a fun girls night out or special dinner, especially if you get one of their private rooms. Those are really great. read more

I have been to this Mikado location multiple times as my husband and I both love sushi. We even went to eat here when our daughter was two days old!! Have always enjoyed consistent food quality and fast service. The ginger sauce served with the chicken karaage is SO delicious! It isn't super cheap, but definitely makes us feel like we've had a nice dinner out. Can be a little noisy even when in a "private room" because the dividers are just free-hanging, not solid partitions. read more

Get a private room. The public area has shaky tables since they are all connected and one diner being inconsiderate can ruin it for everybody. I left without eating the first time I went in without a reservation, for the above reason. The food is good, not extraordinary. No reason to really go back. Service was acceptable. We decided to try Mikado for lunch as we had not been there in a few years since IT Sushi opened in Spruce Grove. We left feeling disappointed. We ordered the Mixed Tempura- which was great! Spicy Tuna Roll- bit into a bone and there was too much rice around it. Brad Roll was the same, way too much rice. Spider Roll was HUGE, you couldn't even bite into it as the nori was tough, we ended up picking at the filling as well it had a huge glob of cream cheese in it-bleh. The Lunch Sashimi was great. Kids both had the California Roll and again way too much rice. We asked our server why there was so much rice around the rolls and she said because most customers like a lot of rice and next time we come we need to ask for half rice... say what? I have never heard of that before. Anyways, we will not be going back. Sad because Mikado used to be so good. read more

One of my first sushi experiences. Our group had a private room which was separate from the rest of the restaurant. This was nice as we were able to converse in peace. The food was quite good and had all of your usual sushi classics. This experience has opened my eyes to the world of sushi and I will definitely have more in the future. Mikado is a chain of Japanese restaurants in Edmonton. There are 4 locations that I know of and I have been to three, and of the three I have been to, this one is the best. The restaurant is modern and airy with wood beams everywhere and quite a few sectioned off private rooms. The servers dress in traditional robes and the place is very clean. The menu can be a bit more expensive than other japanese restaurants in town, but I find the quality of food makes up the difference. I have never received a piece of sushi here that appeared less than fresh (if its fishy smelling, think twice!! This is from someone who has had first hand experience with sushi food poisoning!!) and I always enjoy the specials menu. The latest thing I tried off their specials menu was a "green roll" with avocado, asparagus, chop chop scallops and a herb dip. It was fresh and delicious!! I think they should add it to their regular menu as I have been craving it since! This place can get very busy on weekends around dinner time, but the wait is usually no more than 15 minutes at peak time for a table. read more

A great place for Japanese food. We went for lunch today and the bento box meals were amazing. The sushi was very fresh and the tempura and teriyaki chicken was excellent. The dressing on the salad was also very good. Our server was very friendly. The portions were a good value and large, guaranteeing leftovers. This is the best Japanese food I have had in Edmonton. We've been coming to the west end location for several years now. The food is always good as well as the service. The only issue I had was that we showed up and the girl at the front counter offered us a table, so long as we were finished by a certain time because the table was reserved for that time. Really??? So what your nicely asking is that would I mind slamming my food down as fast as I get it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great restaurant but there are more subtle ways to hurry your guests up without telling them to hurry. read more

Well, been craving sushi since moving back to the Edmonton area...finally stubbled upon Mikado. I'm a big fan of the stand alone rolls so I ordered a red rose w/salmon and the dynamite roll. Nicely prepared, presented and looked delicious. They were very tasty, with nothing being overpowering. The only thing I can't get on board with is the price, 2 rolls and before a 15% tip...35.70...maybe it's the economy, maybe it just costs more to get good seafood to Alberta...for me, a fine line between quality and overpriced. I don't wanna be one of those Vancouverites...but even at the best sushi places down there, the rolls are close to half the price...just sayin' read more

I used to like going to this Mikado in the west end, but I've noticed that in the last few visits, the portions they serve have been noticeably smaller, the wait times for the food to come out are longer, and the service superficial and less attentive. The Chirashi bowl that I often order is usually filled to the top with good helping of sashimi and rice, but on the last few visits they've been really stingy with the fish and even the rice! Big ceramic bowl, yes, but it's only half to two-thirds filled. For 28 dollars, you'd think they'd be a little more generous! When people go out and eat, they want to get their hard-earned money's worth. I wonder if they've changed owners at this Mikado, because it isn't as good as it used to be. When I went with my girlfriend and her little boy at around 2 pm on a weekday afternoon, it wasn't busy (there were only three other customers there), yet we still waited for about 15 minutes before a server came to take our order. "Where is she??," we kept wondering. After we ordered, we waited another 15-20 minutes for our food. Kinda sucked. And this just didn't happen to us. At the table beside us, a lady told her companion, "I'm ready to order, if I can get somebody to come." The food itself was good, but like I said, too little for your buck! My recommendations for the owners of this restaurant: try to be a little more generous with the portions, and speed it up a little, with more attentiveness to the customer. read more

I booked a reservation three weeks in advance for 10 people. I show up with 4 small children early for my reservation because the lady I spoke with stressed the fact that they will only hold the table for 15min after the reserved time. When I give them my name they have no reservation. They tell me there is no reservation and there is nothing they can do. The lady also proceeds to ask me if I'm sure I booked at the West location. He then asks for my name the reservation would be under so she can call the other locations. The staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. They made the mistake and tried to pass their incompetence off on me. They provided no resolution without much concern. I will never go back here and I recommend if you value service not to go here either. read more

First time experiencing Mikado's and I got to tell you it was a bust. While the design and decor of the restaurant is indeed well constructed and fits very well the plating is not. I also found very little variety in sauces, you have Soy Sauce and Low Sodium Soy Sauce... Yay? The pricing of the plates here is a little to much and you get to play the guessing game as to how much your dish costs until the bill comes. Finally my biggest gripe had to be the service, why? I didn't have the best experience here and they were present only 2 times during my stay and when I decided not to tip said hostess, she decided to give me a lecture about it. I will not be returning in the near future, bang for your buck? not really you can find other restaurants very similar at a much less costly price and enjoy yourself all the same. read more
