Went to Mikado for dinner before a show at the Ardmore Music Hall. I usually read reviews before picking a restaurant - this time we picked because it was close to the venue and we wanted sushi. We ordered 2 special rolls and 2 regular rolls. My special roll had over twice the rice that was necessary and minimal fish. I ordered food to be delivered to my house. The site said it would take about an hour to arrive. After waiting the hour, not before, I was notified that the delivery was cancelled -no explanation given. I was advised to call the restaurant which I was unable to do because they did not answer the phone despite 3 attempts over a 30 minute time span. When I finally got through to them, the rude and clearly incompetent person-claiming to be the manager -which I doubt -had no good reason for the lack of delivery. service. We were craving Thai food and came here on a whim after having passed many times on Lancaster Ave. The restaurant was super quiet on a Wednesday night, which was exactly what we wanted after a long start to the week We started off sharing a miso soup, which was plenty large to share. My wife enjoyed the Seafood Drunken, which had a decent amount of seafood. It was advertised as spicy and was a good amount of moderate heat for people who like spice. I had the Pad See Ew, which I could not find on the menu but they said they had it when I asked. It was exactly what one would expect and in fact too much food to eat in one sitting so we brought it home. We finished the meal with two moji balls (one vanilla one green tea) which was a nice conclusion to the salty meal. Service was attentive and bathrooms were clean. Had a sweet, parent date at this lively little sushi spot in Ardmore, PA. This Japanese-Thai fusion restaurant was a great half-n-half to satisfy our cravings--two entirely different vibes, their menu mixes spicy and fish sauce of Thai food with the fresh fish of Japanese cuisine. The flavor fusion is the perfect solution for the indecisive folks like me. In fact, it is so half and half the two sides of the store look entirely different with completely different vibes! The staff was great. They were attentive and sweet. The sushi chefs were absolutely amazing. I was taking a little video of the set up when the one chef said "hi, Instagram!" and they all perked up and smiled and waved. We ordered the papaya salad and tom yum for appetiser. It could have been much more spicy as we were expecting with authentic Thai food. For mains, we got the sashimi deluxe for two and the spider (soft shell crab) roll. The sashimi was chosen by the chefs and we definitely had our faves (basically everything from the middle). Next time we will order individual hand rolls/nigiri of the ones we liked. Taste-wise, I would say it's 3/5. The staff was sweet and for me the star of the show--the people made it 5/5. And for this overall I give it a 4/5. read more

We came here with friends on a Saturday night. I am so glad we made a reservation because it was quite packed. The seating is so cute! At first look I thought it's Japanese style seating where we have to sit on the floor. However, after a close look I realized it's a chair that's below the floor level. I have never seen a restaurant like this, I love it. We were all pretty hungry so we ordered appetizers. I got spicy tuna canapé. Let me tell you, this is the best thing I've ever had for awhile. I love the crunchy rice part, I can't wait to eat it again. For entree, we got spicy chicken noodles, again, delicious. We have an amazing experience here. Also, please keep in mind it is BYOB. I was surprised when it said voted best sushi place in Philadelphia. However I don't like sushi or sea food so I went with the Thai options. I really wanted to try the pineapple fried rice with chicken but I could order it on grub hub. Not sure why everything else is listed besides that and on lunch menu it's not listed there either. So instead I got chicken and fried rice with a side of dumplings and edamame. The edamame they gave you a huge portion you can share with people. The dumplings I wish was more then just 3 but were good. The chicken and fried rice was not what I would expect but in a good way. I hope to eat at the restaurant as it is near where I work. They should have more pic listed on their website but thankfully grub hub had pictures of the dishes. I like to see what it looks like before I buy so I know what I am getting. The worst is expecting a dish your used to to get it made totally different. I've been loyal sushi and sashimi fan to Azie Villanova however Mikado is closer and owned by the same restaurant group- so figured try it out. Tonight I ordered the Chirashi, which is the chefs choice a fish and toppings on top of sushi rice. Hands down the freshest well prepared sashimi i've had on the Main Line Sushi rice was moist and well seasoned- just enough sweetness and rice vinegar. Bonus - tamago Japanese egg omelette.was added. Originally, we got take out here for my birthday. Everyone in my family ordered food from here and liked it, except for me. I got the chicken teriyaki, which was sadly cold, dry, and tough. It was so inedible I could barely cut through it. The second time I came here, was 4 months later with my family, in-person. Perhaps, I thought, that their in-dining food would be more fresh than their takeout. A fictional hope of mine. I ordered the chicken teriyaki again, in hopes of giving them a second chance. I frequently Mikado and it's usually very solid. Tonight, that was the case. Today, I came in to get some sushi with a couple of friends of mine. The waitress, Ashley came over quickly and took our order. I decided to try the cold Thai tea. While it took a little while for the drink to come out, it was pretty good when it came out. It was fairly creamy, but also had a nice tea flavor. The actual food itself here is very good and I am actually a bit surprised to see all the negative comments regarding the food. I started off with the calamari salad, which was great! The lettuce and vegetable toppings including cucumbers, tomatoes and shredded carrots were all great and the ginger dressing was superb. While the pieces of calamari I got was great, there were only a few and the rest were just small fried pieces. When it comes to sushi, they gave a large variety and they were very good. Tonight, I had the Philadelphia and California rolls. The rice is good and the insides are of very good quality. The salmon and cream cheese were especially great! I also had the chicken teriyaki! It was beautifully played with a flower on top, it was very nice. The teriyaki was also great as the chicken was tender and moist while the teriyaki sauce took it to a whole new level. The side of green brand was also nice. It was so big, I had to bring most of it home! My only concern was that it took a while for our drinks to come. However, once I had my appetizer I felt a bit rushed when the entrees came out very fast. Also, Mikado has nice seating options including some tatami tables! One of my favorite Thai restaurants as I was growing up was located on three Main Line. It was my first Thai restaurant ever and I remember my first time trying Thailand signature fish as well as a fried soft shell crab fish. That was more that 20 years ago and the experience still lingers in my head. When I came back from living and working abroad, I was ecstatic to find the Thai restaurant still there, although it was now combined with a Japanese restaurant. Now... down to my review of the food. I ordered the Dragon Roll and Pad Thai. The Dragon Roll was ok, but then again, I have never had a bad Dragon Roll before. Pretty hard to mess up grilled eel and cheese on rice... maybe. BUT... The Pad Thai was disappointing and is an insult to Thailand's signature and most popular dish amongst non-Thais. The flavor was almost bland and the chicken was so tough. I don't even want to go into deep detail because of how disappointed I am with the dish. Oh Thai Pepper, how I have missed thee! Haven't been here for awhile since I moved south but came back for a visit and had to come here. The interior of this restaurant is really well done. It's very pretty and elegant and would make for a good place to take a date. Service is great here too This is a half Japanese/half Thai restaurant do you can order either or both! I have never had the Japanese so can't comment on that. My go to here is the green curry with chicken but I have also had the Kai Himmaparn, the pineapple fried rice, and last night I had the spicy chicken noodle (also called drunken noodle in other places). Both the spicy chicken noodle and the green curry are very spicy but in a good way. Everything I have had here is excellent and I have no complaints. I honestly think you could order anything on the menu and it will be top notch. Parking here is not the greatest since it's right on Lancaster Avenue but you will find a spot since it is more than worth it. Happened to try this place while walking around Ardmore. Was surprised to find out that this was 2 restaurants in one (Japanese & Thai) with the two rooms having each aesthetic, which did look nice. We ordered both cuisines. I would say we left, unimpressed. The service was prompt. The Peking duck was good, but not actually prepared how Peking duck is usually. It came with tortillas on the side. The curry was odd in that it had whole grape tomatoes in the dish--wouldn't say I've seen that previously in Thai dishes. Seemed oddly placed. The curry was OK. Maybe a little bland. the eel bowl was as described, but I've had much better at other places. We were unsure if it was the eel itself or the large rice to eel ratio. I would say other than the not Peking Peking duck, the flavors were dull. The Thai tea was solid. Wouldn't really return, however learned after the fact they are known for their sushi. read more

Meh...I don't do much here besides Teriyaki, not a sushi or seafood person. I haven't ordered in a while and had some last night, it was pretty disappointing. First off, I was told my order would be ready in 30 minutes. I assumed they were slammed, but still got there in 20 minutes as I didn't want my food sitting around. Sure enough, my food was waiting and would have sat another 10 minutes had I not left early. And the restaurant was empty, just a couple tables taken. Off to a pretty bad start... Secondly, it is expensive. For 15$, you get rice, a chicken breast and a handful of greenbeans. Maybe I should have ordered off the lunch menu which includes soup, salad and California roll for 12.50. Not sure what the deal is on the dinner menu, or why you can't make a platter for chicken teriyaki dinner, but it seemed like quite a rip off compared to the lunch offering. I ordered the mixed green salad for another 6 bucks to round out the meal. Nice size, but wow, the ginger dressing was junk! Runny like a vinaigrette, no texture to it...good ginger dressing is thicker, like it was made out of a bunch of delicious fruits and vegetables. I wondered if I got the wrong dressing at first, but it did have a gingery taste. The chicken wasn't hot and barely had any sauce on it...I like to dump my rice in there and let it soak up some teriyaki, but there was barely enough for the chicken. We just moved to the area and found this restaurant by accident while out exploring. We were surprised how high the quality was and by how much we liked it. It is not the best sushi restaurant ever, but VERY solid, especially for a local neighborhood place. As a fellow South East Asian foodie, this restaurant gets my approval. Not only the food was good, but the service was excellent and the atmosphere, interior design and more were exquisite. The food is a healthy mix of Asian fusion, and an interesting twist towards Thai-Japanese food. We came here on a whim and stayed because everything was amazing. It's a little bit on the pricier side, but with how fresh the seafood, meat, salads and more were - it is truly understandable. Not only is the food cooked so well, but the plating is so well done. Highly recommend this place to people interested in Thai food, but also have a nice hankering for a roll of sushi, or two. Definitely coming again! read more

The chicken was a little over cooked and dry, but the noodles were decent. The flavor was a little tangy to my taste and I definitely had way better pad thai chicken some place else. Their pseudo-traditional tables are a trip, too - you might be tempted to remove your shoes and kneel at the tables, but there's actually a depression for your legs. It's not a huge place, so if you have a large party, I'd call to reserve a table. NOTE: Seems like they also occupy the space of their former neighbor, Thai Pepper, so that should help as far as space is concerned. Average sushi, not amazing sushi. Average priced too, I thought. I ordered ahead bc I had a tight timeline to keep. Food was ready when I arrived. Tried to charge me more than they were supposed to for the food I ordered. Finally corrected the price, I pay cash and go to take my bag of food and the woman took food out of the bag. She mumbled that they made the wrong food and went into the kitchen. It would have been nice to know before I paid for the bag. She came out six minutes later with replacement items. After I left and was enroute to work I noticed that there were no utensils or napkin provided. I called back and spoke to Sasi the manager who insisted on interrupting my every sentence even when I asked her twice to stop. They don't give out utensils according to her. Also she said that the incorrect food was my fault for not communicating well enough. ('Entree x with a combo of soup y and app z' was not clear enough to specify a combo.) when I mentioned that I had already paid for the bag of food when she began removing items from my bag Sasi insisted that it wasn't my bag even though it was presented to me at the cash register and I paid for it. Several times while we were on the phone she ignored me to speak with other employees in the background. There was no apology whatsoever or acknowledgement of any mistake on their part. Four of us met at the restaurant Sunday evening, and we brought with us a bottle of red and white wine. We first ordered crispy tofu (with an accompanying sauce) as an appetizer and it was delicious. We've enjoyed this spot for years - mostly the Thai side. You can choose to sit in one of the two rooms (Japanese decor, or Thai) but the menu is open on both sides. We love the basil fried rice, the pad Thai, and the sushi. Kid friendly but a quieter spot so perhaps not for the rowdier kids. read more
