Staff is super friendly and provided great recs! +Mixed and match of cheese and charcuterie 5/5: Our server recommended some soft cheeses and less salty meats, and everything tasted delicious! + NY steak 5/5: Wow, I didn't have much expectations of an $18 steak but it's one of the most well-seasoned steak I've ever had. This place is SUPER pricy for what you get. I'd go next door to L'Appart, if you can. -Oysters: HH oysters are $2 each. Each oyster had many shell pieces. Oysters were good though. A bit inconsistent though, 1st plate came on a bed of ice but the 2nd didn't. -Bolognese: I think the pasta was over-salted, but the sauce was pretty good. Depending on who is making the dish, you will find yourself with different portion sizes. My friend that showed up after me got about double my portion size. -Pesto: This was tasty, I loved the little twisted pastas that held onto the sauce well. -Cheese and Charcuterie plate: The cheeses were tasty but for a plate of 5, maybe needed a few more than 2 almonds and a dollop of honey. I got a glass of cab, the ham & brie sandwich, and a charcuterie board. All was delightful, especially the sandwich. I got the tartufo (truffle cheese), Bermuda Triangle (creamy goat) and the jamon serrano (prosciutto adjacent) for the charcuterie board. All in all, a wonderful vibe with great music. The bf and I came on a weekend night and basically stuff ed our faces full of bread and buttered goodness. FOOD: We tried the happy hour red, sparkling and white wines. All were pretty good, but my favorite was the red. We also tried: - ham and brie sandwich - I think this is the best HH deal. Sandwich is pretty big and filling! They give you a generous slice of brie too. - pate - I love pate and this was pretty good, but I wish they gave a bigger portion of pate. - baked eggs - I wasn't a fan of this dish (I don't really like runny eggs) but my bf looooved it SERVICE: Super friendly! There were two ladies running the place - one was taking orders and pouring drinks and the other was preparing the food orders. Efficient and food comes out pretty quickly. VENUE/PARKING: Really nice ambiance, small, dark and cozy - most of the seats are around the bar, with some small table inside and out on the patio as well. It's a quaint little spot in a little bit of a rough area in Los Angeles, and we were treated to some of the best of LA's transients' performances as we enjoyed our selection of 3 meats and 5 cheeses. If you have any questions about the menu they'll offer some great suggestions that cater to your personal preferences. The menu offers a nice selection of things to sip and nibble on. I'm a big fan of the charcuterie and cheese board they offer. We ordered the Saucisson Sec, Jamon Serrano, and Fincchiona Salame for our meats. For our cheeses we got the Midnight Moon, Bleu d'Auvergne, and Cana Di Cabra. All together it was a really fun experience and delicious meal. My favorite and most memorable was the bleu cheese, which wasn't as strong as some bleu cheeses can be but still had that distinct flavor I like. The board comes with additional jam, honey, etc that make for a plethora of different combinations that was really fun. The bread that was served with the plate was incredible, toasted perfectly. Made a great new discovery...pasta served during lunchtime at Mignon! Michael is the man with the magic pans at Mignon who dishes up weekday (and Saturday) pasta specials, that are so special, in fact, there's no menu...he just tells you what wonderful creation he's able to whip up. We were 3 for 3 trying Mignon's lunch offerings, having tried the baguette and burrata, the beet spaghetti, and the gnocchi. If you are the type of person that can subsist on a diet of bread and cheese, this is definitely your dish. The baguette is flown in from NY semi baked, and it was perfectly soft and warm, just waiting to soak up the olive oil and salt strategically placed around it. Add a touch of that soft burrata on top and you're in heaven! The beet spaghetti can't be beat. Cooked to an al dente perfection, with a dollop of real cheese on top (comes with goat cheese, which we asked to substitute for mozzarella), you'll be sad to see your soon to be empty plate. The gnocchi was another fine choice as it was as fun to eat as it is to pronounce. Like I said in my previous review, this is the best low-key date spot in town. Just make sure to sit towards the back of the place so the sad parade of homeless folks walking by the window doesn't bum you out. It's hard not to feel a little guilty seeing people down on their luck, as you savor an upscale meal paired with a nice glass of wine. read more

Mignon is such an adorably quaint and romantic wine shop. When you enter, the dimly lit ambience welcomes you to have a seat at the wine bar. The walls are adorned with beautiful pieces of art and lights. Their menu is quite expansive and features (diy) charcuterie boards. My only complaint regarding the charcuterie board was to perhaps have the honey served in a dish rather than just topping it in the corner of the board (where is spilled over). I can't recall the name of the wine I ordered however, it was a delicious sparkling red wine that wasn't too sweet and had the after taste of tart cherries. For customer service: The server was very helpful and understanding when asking for our vaccination cards as well. My partner is currently in the process of deployment and due to that, his vaccination card is being mailed to him along with his other belongings. Rather than declining service to him, the server/bartender listened to him explain how since he's in the military (and my partner showed him his military ID), he has to be up to date with vaccinations. Thank goodness for great customer service because we were able to enjoy the double date we were on. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a homey eclectic date! read more

Don't believe the haters... Mignon is great. It's small, quiet and cute. There is no kitchen, it's all out in the open and because of that, there is a limited, but very good menu. The happy hour is well priced and the food is AMAZING. Anytime I want some good pate or an innovative smaller sized plate, this place comes to mind. Last night, I came in right as they opened and ordered the baked eggs and pate with a couple of glasses of wine to share. It was DELCIOUS. Seriously. The idea that people are talking about the location being sketchy is just a testament to the fact that they are downtown amateurs and not very observant yelpers. Yes, this is one of the last stops that anyone not comfortable with downtown people should venture...but if you are that scared, perhaps downtown shouldn't be on your list of places to go. And parallel to that, any place with only enough seating for 20 isn't going have a crazy extensive wine or food menu. But the wines are solid and the vibe is worth anyone not getting to order from a huge menu. *rolling my eyes* This is a great date spot - platonic or romantic - as it's quiet enough to have an intimate conversation but not so quiet that you feel self-conscious. I have to say I was a little bit shocked and surprised on how small this place is. It really doesn't hold more than 20 seats but I would say it was full the whole time and night when I went here on a Saturday. I had a really great time with drinking and trying different wines that they were offering at that time. I found out that many of the wines get changed out quickly and very often so they can have variety. I think that is pretty cool and pretty trendy. But I can see how that can also work against a business. What if people like a certain wine and it's not on the menu anymore? The wines that I selected were all red wines. They are my favorite to drink and I love the flavor mainly of red wine. A selection of 12 different red wines to choose from and 7 that you can buy per glass. They even have one bottle that is as much as $100.00 and as low as $32.00. The seats are wooden stools and they are mounted onto the floor. So no way of switching or adding more in. There is no kitchen so they work with very little but the mac and cheese that we ordered was pretty good. It wasn't amazing but it was decent so I would probably go and order this again. Don't be afraid to ask for samples if you don't have an idea of what you really want. :) FYI: This place the sigh is really dimly lit so it might be hard to find so just look really carefully at different businesses. :) read more
