Totally Underwhelming. Decided to try this place Sunday. While it was clean and had a lot of room, my only concern was the pastries. I got 2 things, a $4 donut filled with blueberry-peach filling, and a chocolate croissant for $4.50. The donut was lousy, I threw away about half of it. There was something about the dough's consistency I didn't like. The chocolate croissant was nothing special. Just your run of the mill chocolate croissant. Not sure if they even bake them there or get them from a vendor. I could have gotten an exponentially better donut at Beiler's at Reading Terminal Market, and a much better croissant at Artisan Boulanger Patissier. One and done. read more

Only open on Saturday mornings , huge line out the door every time you go, and totally worth it. They have everything you could ever want - loaves of bread, donuts, pastry's, pizzetes, croquettes, avocado toast, tea cakes, cookies, etc etc etc. Their loaves of bread are unique and delicious. My favorite is the porridge bread. Never thought "porridge bread" would be on my short list, who am I? I usually say I am going to get a loaf, and I leave with a zucchini pizette, chocolate chip cookies, a pastry, and whatever else catches my eye because I have no will power. Already a huge fan of their dark chocolate brownies, I've returned to Mighty Bread Co several times to sample some of their other baked goods. Be it the donuts, blondies, breads, or cakes, all have been delicious. So much so that Mighty Bread Co has quickly become one of my favorite bakeries in Philly. One of south Philly's gems! You may wait in line, but everything from breakfast to lunch to coffee is well thought out, fresh, and just good. Staff is always extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and the whole bakery has a fun vibe. Highlights include any of the breakfast sandwiches, and of course the fresh bread. Sometimes it can be hard to get a table, but there is a park right down the block with plenty of benches and tables. Would highly recommend! read more

This place is insanely good. Line out the door sometimes. The bread is world class, incredibly consistent, beautiful. Been making a trip here for years. Also the prepared foods, especially the occasional special, are top notch. So why 4 stars? This is a 5-star place! Well, I have to send a message to the chef! There is one class of pastries that is inexplicably all wrong: croissants. The croissants at mighty bread are over baked, undersalted, not-buttery... I don't really know what's gone wrong. Maybe they are using rye flour which is just not appropriate for croissants? Since this is a place that approaches perfection, this is just crazy. I urge them to bring the croissants (and "danishes") into competition with the loaves! (Had croissants at Matines out in mt airy and they were awesome recently). I think the same can be said of the donuts. Great ingredients, but just the wrong proportions of stuff. read more

I bought the three cheese loaf of bread here and it was AMAZING! I cannot believe I have lived just a few blocks from this place for years and never tried it. I will definitely be buying all my bread from here going forward. This is some of the best bread I have ever had! I cant wait to try brunch here some time. Went here for the first time yesterday since they opened up their dining area, and quite simply: it's exactly what you want in a neighborhood cafe/bakery. Good coffee. Relaxed counter service. The bread is to die for (but we all knew about the bread already). Good pastries and baked goods. A nice variety of simple dishes at great prizes. Adorable little street (can't wait until it warms up again, we'll be out on the patio weekly). Cute decor. Staff was very nice and friendly. This is the kind of place Philly needs more of. Places where you can get counter-service food at reasonable prices while maintaining a high standard of food. They've nailed this concept on their first try. Best bread ever in my life. Their sourdoughs are phenomenal, as well as other bread menu. Anything related to bread are amazing but other kind of bakery that's not bready are not always the best (well it's BREAD company after all). My go-to are olive and everything sourdough. I normally don't do avocado toast because it's basic and I can do it myself but their avocado toast is very delicate with all those herb and the perfect boiled egg -- totally worth trying. Ps. they only have regular coffee which is basic but cost the same as craft latte, so you might wanna get the bread and hop on other caffe. read more

Friends raved about this place. Come on, it's just bread right? I'm generally not impressed with bread, but this place I am impressed by. Party had various things but I tried the kale focaccia which was amazing. So delicious, done in air fryer for a couple minutes, o.m.g. I love meat, don't understand how something can be that good without meat but I'd definitely go back for just that. Friend got kale salad which was alright, little heavy on the dressing. Fiancée did the asparagus danish which was good. Tomato pie is an interesting east coast thing I've never had before, like a pizza but without toppings just light tomato sauce. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! In 2018 or 2019 I started going to Mighty Bread. No fuss or line just great bread. I took a baking class in an intimate setting with Chris and 4 or 5 other people. Snacked on a beautiful spread learning about the history of bread and how to make it. We left the class with starter and a packet of information. I followed feverishly on social media when Mighty Bread would be open. Over time their spread grew and remained amazing and seasonal. I no longer live in south Philly but returned to have lunch in the expanded cafe. So proud that mighty bread has stuck to its roots and increasingly becoming better and better. No idea how Chris does it with a growing family, tech job and thriving cafe and bakery. read more

A fantastic bakery/cafe hidden in a really quiet area. Perfect spot for brunch on a chilled Sunday. The cafe was full and quite crowded when we got there, but servers were friendly and quick to clear the tables for us to get seated shortly after we ordered. I had a vegan hoagie on ciabatta bread. Of course, I took my time to relish it, but face the facts. My teeth are kinda old and I've had plenty of work done over the years. Not kidding, my jaw is still aching after 72 hours. All of the loaves in the display case looked equally crusty. In retrospect, the red lentil soup might have been a better choice. I thought I would really like this restaurant. This morning I go in to get a coffee and a donut to sit in and they ask for my vaccination card. No problem! Then they ask for my id... no problem either. I sit in the front next to the register. THEY DONT CHECK ANYONE ELSES ID. I'm the only African American in the restaurant. Can you imagine how I felt? Then when I asked why you guys lied. I WATCHED YOU NOT CHECK ANYONE ELSES ID. So I guess in the south Philly coffee scene you have to be white to be treated white. I will never come here again and I do plan to make signs and stand outside of the establishment to inform everyone of their racist practices. read more
