We wanted to have some sake and asked for help. Their sommelier was very helpful and recommended the Snow Tiger Yuki Tora which is unfiltered and looks like milk, but it went beautifully with our food. We started with Edamame which had a perfect char. The grilled Avocado was a pleasant surprise with the char flavor and great spicy sauce. You get a spoon to scoop out the avocado and it's sliced so it works with chop sticks. By the way everything is great for sharing which gives everyone a chance to try the wonderful menu. Then we attacked the main menu. The Wagyu Nigiri, the must have Bluefin Tuna Crispy Rice, Crispy Spring Rolls and I drank the juice with the Hamachi and Lemon. Now it's time to figure what's next! spicy Tuna roll, triple tuna roll, the incredible Wild Mushroom sizzling rice bowl and it is sizzling! We're nearing the end! The Unagi and the Black Cod couldn't have been any better. It melted in our mouths. Think we're finished, we saved room for dessert! The Miru-Ishi and Black Sesame Mochi. We're finished! Maria was a great server and was very attentive!

Before that, I…read morechecked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao sze chuan was way too expensive! So I decided to try Shang Noodle, tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's a little off the beaten path, down a short flight of stairs and a block down. As soon as I walked in, nearly every seat was taken. The place was lively, energetic, and a bit boisterous, but in a good way. I figured that was a good sign that the food was good! At first, the host wanted to seat me at the bar, which I politely declined. I noticed a small single table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No tude! My server was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken. The pot stickers were a little small, but very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce, which paired nicely with them. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was generous, and the char-grilled beef had great flavor. A few of the noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall it was still enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable considering the portion sizes and location. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead.

Szechuan chicken wings arrive perfectly fried with a restrained heat that complements rather than dominates. The place was rather dimly lit, which actually made for a nice dinner-time ambiance. It's relatively small inside, so the fact that it was busy led us to just take two seats at the bar. The service at the bar was fantastic and, while the bartenders were quite busy, they were very good about repeatedly checking in on us. I ordered the chicken shio ramen, and my wife ordered the kimchi and fried chicken ramen, which the waitress/bartender told us was the most popular. Both of these dishes were absolutely incredible, and both were large, but not overly filling portion sizes. It was $17-$18 per ramen bowl, which isn't cheap, but it's also not too expensive for being right in the middle of the city. This is my new favorite ramen place in Chicago, and it comes highly recommended by me for anyone who is wanting to try it!
