Calumet City, IL Location - Midwest Eye Center's customer service really sucks. They do NO follow up. When you call in they try to rush you off the phone or push you off to another number that no one ever answers. When your provider tries to call in to renew a prescription they don't respond. I have been without my prescription eyedrops since March of 2024. It's November 2024. My provider has tried to reach them multiple times but no one responds and I never hear anything back. This is a horrible location for Eye Service. I am looking for another Eye center that handles their business. I was there 10/31 and was told that my prescription would be called in for a 30 day supply. It's 11/1 and that prescription still has not been called in, knowing that I have been without since March of this year. I called in this morning and was quickly transferred to a different area that did not answer. If I get Glaucoma now I am wondering will I have a lawsuit case I can pursue. I usually go to the location in calumet city, but thought I'd give this place a try since they're all booked. And this was the biggest mistake EVER!! I'm currently in the 2nd waiting room and I've been here for almost two hours. This is completely ridiculous!! as for the only other review this place has...I completely agree on giving this place zero stars. read more

I thought the staff was friendly and particularly the one member I had at the front desk was very competent to say the least. My doctor however Dr. Brenda Simon seemed preoccupied and less attentive, and that's what really counts. I would have rated this below average if it weren't for the wonderful and friendly front desk worker. read more

Totally rude and condescending, within 5 minutes of my visit I said I would reschedule at a later date which will NEVER happen. This place was absolutely terrible. I had to sit for a whole hour before I was even seen and even then they took forever. I felt like I was being rushed and the doctor herself was undermining at every turn she could. They belittling me with her words and not considering how I felt about the situation. I had my eyes examined on 5/05/2011. I received the official prescription that day but did not purchase my frame or lens. I wanted to explore the Internet and review the on-line optometrists. Obviously, there is a "HUGE MARKUP" in the optical business! Their Mokena office is closed on Wednesdays. Therefore, I called their main office in Calumet City on 8/17/2011. The company policy is NOT to provide their patients with their PD (Pupillary Distance) measurement UNLESS the frame and lens is purchased at any one of their locations. I must either locate another optometrist who will provide that information or "estimate" the measurement by myself or with the help of a relative. I was not informed that the TOTAL prescription information was NOT given to me when I left their Mokena office in May, Be that as it may, this firm is conducting its public business in an unethical and "perhaps" illegal manner. The eye exam was paid in full with insurance. Yet, the paid prescription was NOT complete nor was I informed of this "hook." Please call them first and ask if they are going to require you to buy your frame and lens from them. If you want to explore the Internet as I did; and perhaps, save a "very substantial" amount of money...my aviator gold metal frame, single line bifocal lens and shipping for under $40; then MIDWEST EYE CENTER S.C. is NOT for you. read more

I wish I could give this place negative stars. I'm here for a routine exam with my 5 year old for kindergarten. We've been here 90 minutes with absolutely NO ONE has apologized about the wait or tried to make us uncomfortable. Not a coloring book or crayon in sight. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I have been a patient here for several years - Calumet City office. After An exam I left a very sentimental item there. They said when I called they would hold it for me - would place it in a drawer. I explained I'm in a wheelchair & would have to take a bus there". They told me they would keep it for me until my next visit.ii when I got there they told me they don't hold things that long & it was gone. I said it was too nice for an employee to throw out. Therefore someone stole it. I said I wanted it back but if not I wanted someone to pay. I told them the date I called so they could see who worked the desk that day. They treated me very rudely. I waited almost 3 hours because I let everyone in the waiting room know what they did. They took everyone who came after me before me - I'm sure as punishment. I said the bus was picking me up at 10 am. They said you'll be done. I finished at 11:45 from an 8:45 appointment. Missed the bus, me Meals on Wheels, a maintenance tech & my medication - all of whom I told to come after 10:30. The office staff is ignorant, don't know their job & could care less about your situation. I spoke to the supervisor & she was extremely rude & told me the doctor said they couldn't hold the item. The doctor? I will NEVER go back. I don't want to be around stupid people. Yes, I threw a fit in front of the waiting patients & 2 commended me for it.i stand up for myself. This place will steal from you. If they have a policy saying they can only hold things for so long, that's fine. But I was told, given my situation, they would. Bye-bye Midwest. read more

This is the worst experience I've ever had in any professional setting. I would give zero stars if possible. Dr Simons performed my eye exam and afterwards I asked which eye got worse and she immediately replied with "I know you're trying to get a free contact prescription out of me" which I followed with "no, my eyes used to be different and then became the same and now one eye is different I would just like to know which eye..." just the amount of disrespect in that place is beyond what I've ever seen in a professional setting. The receptionist was talking shit about another employee that "doesn't have her life together" with another employee the entire time I was in the waiting room and kept my ID for 20 minutes and said "oh I didn't even see it there" on her desk right in front of her hand because she was too busy gossiping with the other employee. I walked out of the appointment without finishing it after I was accused of trying to scam a free contact prescription and the doctor was so rude to me. I don't see how this place is not closed down yet and she has yet to be reported. She needs to lose her job title. read more

Had to take my son for his first eye screening and he was nervous. Front desk did not greet me as we walked in, she was unfriendly each time I experienced contact with her. Also, the technician who did his initial screening was cold and made my son feel very uncomfortable. She did not know how to deal with kids apparently. She treated my child like he was an adult patient and even made him feel like it was his fault when he couldn't read what she was asking of him. She was more concerned with her Dunkin Donuts coffee going cold. The Doctor that we saw was very nice and thorough as was the woman who helped us order his glasses. I hope someone from their office reads my review and takes the appropriate training actions with their employees who need it. read more

Terrible. Waits are excessively long when there is no one in the waiting room. Doctors are NOT friendly. Had to go back twice to have correct prescription and to obtain my own medical records they want to charge $50 fee. Insane. read more
