Some people have a phobia about going to the dentist. Myself? I have an eye doctor phobia. My vision is...bad. Very bad. Approximately every third prescription (every third year) I dance perilously close to the maximum prescription strength for contact lenses. Thankfully, technology stays one step ahead of me so I have yet to face the day when contacts are no longer an option. In any case, when your uncorrected vision is such that the very top line of the eye chart (is that an E?) is a struggle; going to the eye doctor can be...embarrassing. However, when your uncorrected vision is as mentioned above, a yearly trip to the eye doctor is a non negotiable. If you want to see clearly...which I do. The staff at Kirschner Vision is always polite and the care I receive has always been top notch. Each visit includes opto mapping where they scan and take pictures of your cornea, lens, and all that good stuff. The best part? The scan approximates a prescription based on the measurements it takes. If you are only looking for reading glasses this probably doesn't matter much. For someone like me, it saves a ton of time and anxiety as the doctor flips between lenses and tries to ascertain just how little you can see. Dr. K. can look over my pictures for any abnormalities and then have an idea of how much my prescription has changed. Sure, we still play the "Which is clearer game?" but it takes a fraction of the time. Something I very much appreciate. When it comes time for choosing new specs, the ladies up front have always helped me select the best glasses for my budget. Kirschner carries a decent selection of frames in a number of price points. I've splurged on majorly speedy frames (awesome insurance paid for everything) and I've purchased frames from their least expensive frame options (no vision insurance--ouch!). I can say at I've always been treated just as well regardless of how much I am spending. I've never had someone try to upsell me. If anything, the associate assisting me in choosing my new glasses helped me meet my needs in the most economical way possible. My only complaint about Kirschner Vision is that your wait time tends to run about 30 minutes past your appointment time. Still, it's a small annoyance in an otherwise excellent practice. read more

This place has lost it touch when it comes to eye care especially customer service. I just needed a simple prescription corrected and just needed for night vision only. The service has lacked and doctors seem knowledgeable, but it's the management and the $$$. Not about customer satisfaction. I have been patient with them for years when they are off on prescriptions and they know that. But, they refused to correct my glasses and I had to request a refund because then they wanted to charge me more for fixing my prescription. Make no sense. read more

I went for a contact lense exam. I waited over 20 minutes beyond my appointment time to see the doctor. I then waited to order my contacts. I was dealing with Nancy at this point. She said to be patient as they have a new computer system. I asked for an invoice before she rang my credit card. Should could not provide this. She then said to me my total was over $700, which wasn't correct. Things got messed up in the computer. She then said to "I can see by the look on your face that you are annoyed." I didn't say anything about the fact it was taking so long. She said I could leave and she would call me after she fixed my order in the computer. They used to give you a free box of contacts if you orders a year supply. They no longer do that. I ended up ordering on 1800 CONTACTS for cheaper than what I would have paid if I ordered through them, without using my VSP insurance. That's how much they are ripping customers off. Everything was great. I ordered my contacts after the trial. I did have to call 2 or 3 times to make sure they had the right prescription. Thought everything would be ok. Got my contacts recently and looked. They gave me 2 boxes of the wrong prescription!!! And of course I prepaid. I sent an email and I am still waiting to hear back from someone Very disappointed. When I first met Nancy, she was not nice. They are going through a transition got many of the same ol' excuse. Our systems are changing and waiting. I used to have Dr. Wilson, but a few doctors have left. I had lasik done through this office. Their pricing isn't the best either. Just like anything else, you have to do your own research and due diligence when working with this doctors office. I'm sure they get paid a pretty penny, so expect things to be a bit higher. Also, they overbook too, like any other doctors, so you will wait. The doctors are knowledgable which is what you pay for. Ask questions! They also handle my kids as well. This place could be one of the best places, but as many have noted the customer service is a bit sketchy at times. The ladies sometimes like their chairs don't stick, and it's attitude too! They hire snooty people at the reception. Good help is hard to find, but what I will say, is that the doctors are very good at their job. And, just watch the pricing especially with Nancy :) She's an old pro, but for me I've been wearing glasses for a long time. Do your homework, or just go to America's Best or 4 Eyes. My son had a vision appointment, and I had to bring my two other children with. It was a Friday afternoon and it had been a long week. The moment I walked in with 3 children the dirty looks made it clear that my two other children were not welcome. My daughter had a meltdown, and no one could look me in the eye. The doctor took my son and did her screening and never went over the results. The eye doctor was very condescending, my daughter was acting up and told me how she would "punish" her child if he was acting up. She never went over the results but did give her opinion on that. She sent me to checkout and that is when I found out my sons vision had changed. I feel it was very unprofessional the whole experience. You shouldn't see children if you can't deal with them. I will never go back there again. I took the prescription and bought glasses elsewhere. read more

I went to this independent optometrist after years of exams with other group optometrists. I was looking for a better experience with my vision and a more detailed exam. I found everything I was looking for in Kirschner Vision. The staff was professional and friendly. I was given a thorough pre exam. One new piece of advanced equipment allowed me to forego the dreaded dilation. Dr. Peter Kirschner was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. After years of exams with others, he was the first to mention cataracts. They scheduled an appointment for me to see an ophthalmologist right there in the office. I first met with Dr. Lisa Wilson who I feel went over and beyond to make sure I was given the right examination for my eyes based on my unique circumstances. In the end, I met with Carmille Barnes who helped me pick out my glasses and provided excellent customer care just lie Dr. Wilson. Girls up front are usually kind, and they have a very good selection of frames. However, i will never return to this store. they are quite underhanded and at times deceitful. they will find ways to add on to your final bill after you think youre finished with all the charges. they figure out what is covered by your insurance, then find a way to make more off you. i thought it was just me being a little too sensitive the first time, but the second time was worse - so there will be no third chance, theyve taken enough of my money. Verified ahead of time that my contact exam was covered by my insurance. At the very end of my exam (where they still didn't seem to know which contacts would work best) they tried to charge me $65. For the exam... that they said was covered. Some guy came out to say the same thing the lady was telling me but in a more condescending tone. Obviously, integrity isn't an important part of their business. I would steer clear of this place. read more

Took my son for an eye exam today for the first time at this location. They took us in right away. Didn't know what to expect but I can say now that they have the best staff ever. They adapted to my son, everyone was caring and had the best equipment for his needs. Everyone that saw him here were excellent. Very happy about coming here and will for sure come back! read more

DON"T GO TO KIRSHNER VISION GROUP, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU, JUST THE $ YOU WILL SPEND!!!! The visit with my doctor in February was good. I ordered a new pair of glasses later this year. I wore them home and immediately realized that I had to lift my head to to see out of the near vision part of the bifocal lens. I thought this was odd because I've worn bi-focal glasses for over 30 years. Then I thought that maybe I needed to give the new lenses an adjustment period. At the 3 week mark of lifting my head, I called the office and explained the situation. I was told to come to the office when it was convenient for me and they would take care of me. So I went last Saturday and unfortunately they were short handed and unable to assist me. I understood, not a problem. I was told to make an appointment, which I did, for the following Wednesday. I went to the office today for my appointment. I explained the situation to the tech, who reviewed my chart and checked my glasses. I was told that the glasses were ordered as prescribed by the doctor. I said that I was not disputing the doctor's diagnosis, but felt that the measurement for the lenses was incorrect. I further explained that I was wearing last year's glasses which just happened to be the exact same frame as the new glasses and I don' t have that problem. Apples to apples. She then said that was all she could do and I had to make an appointment to see the doctor. Seriously?! I had to come back again to be understood and my problem addressed?! I live in Chicago. This is Homewood where I used to live and returned to Kirshner's because they had done a great job with my vision needs in the past. Now I am angry. Not because of the problem with the glasses, but because I could have been told this over the phone when I made my first call. Or first visit. So I have to go back AGAIN in the hopes that my doctor will listen to me and address the problem?! My dad was an optometrist/former president of the Illinois Optometric Association, and guaranteed he is rolling around in his ashes with the incredibly horrific way a patient is being treated. The staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. I had to have retinal photos done and every step was explained to me. That was a first for me. I have been a patient of Dr. Paul's for at least 20 years. He is personable, tells corny jokes and is very good at what he does. I needed cataract surgery two years ago and he recommended a very excellent surgeon. At the time of that exam, Dr. Paul would not just give me glasses and send me on my way knowing that I needed the surgery. He explained that glasses would not help me at this point. So, I reluctantly had the surgery and am I glad I did. I didn't realize just how blind I was. Thank goodness for Dr. Paul. I recently went back for my check-up and he is still just as wonderful as ever. However, my cataract surgeon has retired sadly. Dr. Joffee was excellent as well. So, if you need an eye doctor, I highly recommend Kirschner Vision Group. read more

I was so impressed with Dr. Kirschner and my whole experience here. The receptionist and staff were friendly and I was taken on time. I regret that I don't remember the names of the other staff who helped me, but everyone I encountered was great. Dr. Kirschner is top notch. He was happy to answer my questions, and even went over the retinal images with me. I learned a lot and he put to rest the concerns I had about my vision. Dr. Kirschner has years of experience and also stays up on the latest technologies to help his patients. You will be in really good hands! My visit was covered by VSP, and all told I paid $200 less out of pocket than at the last place I got glasses, under the same vision plan. The associate enumerated each cost and I felt I was billed very fairly. He also knew exactly which frames would be flattering on me and helped me find one I really liked. Dr. Paul is great, but we have been billed wrong the last 2 times we went to get our eyea checked. My husband is still waiting for a refund cause he was overcharged and didnt even get the contacts he ordered. No one has called us back. We like Dr. Paul, but we cant continue to go to a place that doesn't know how to accurately bill our insurance or doesn't care when a customer has a question or problem. It's too bad. read more

Dr. Kirschner did a normal/good job for the exam, but for the last two years I have had an awful experience with the women working here & will not return. The woman working are rude, talk down to you & are pushy to sell you over what your insurance covers. They hide their most reasonable glasses (on a small spinner in the corner) & didn't tell me that had glasses under $200. The woman told me the lenses covered by my insurance wouldn't work well with my prescription being so bad & advised me to upgrade my lenses. When I told her I didn't want the more expensive lenses, she was rude and walked away to help another customer for 10 minutes. Do not go to this practice unless you want to spend hundreds over what your insurance pays for & be treated with disrespect. read more

The doctors here are wonderful And they genuinely care about their patients. However, ordering contacts from here is the most difficult task I have ever encountered. Last year I ordered contacts to be delivered to my apt and told the receptionist my address. I later found out that the shipping vendor did not deliver to my apt even though I asked the receptionist prior if they could deliver to me and she said it would be fine. So I had to drive 30min to the nearest facility to pick them up. After last year I learned my lesson and decided to pick up my contacts up from the doctor office. I went in and saw the doctor in November and after three weeks called to find out if my contacts were in. I ended up getting in a fight with one of the receptionists as she told me there was an ordering issue and my contacts were not in. She proceeded to tell me that she would "do me a favor" and give me some trials for free. I was pissed bc she was not doing me any kind of a favor, she was just covering her ass bc she screwed up the ordering. Now it's almost the end of December and my contacts are still not in and all they keep saying is they are sorry and keep offering me free trials. This is completely ridiculous especially bc they had no problem cashing my $240 check for my contacts but I still have yet to receive them after almost 6 weeks. Needless to say I won't be coming back after all of this. read more
