Stopped by Midway Grille to pick up a to go order while in the area visiting friends. Located in the Lowe's Food shopping center, it is easy to find and has dedicated parking spaces out front. The have a nice variety list of menu items from Apps, Soups, Salads, Sandwiches Burgers, Entrees, Kids menu and a selection of coke products, beer & wine. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean and inviting. I had the grilled meatloaf sandwich with sweet potato fries and a cup of soup of the day. The meatloaf sandwich was fantastic and the soup was hot and tasty, Definitely a place to stop by on future visits to the area. read more

I was a tiny bit apprehensive being that the restaurant is next to a grocery store for some reason, but it did not disappoint. Cozy and quaint with a welcoming vibe. Server was fantastic, and this is an obvious locals fav. The meatloaf is homemade and one of the most popular dishes. It was awesome!!! Great experience all the way around. If I had to pick one opportunity it would be that we found the desserts are brought in frozen. We decided not to get any. This is a must visit when in the area!!! Good selling!!! read more

The food was prepared well and tasted good. We went at lunchtime and got the blackened salmon and the hamburger melt, and both were great. Service was friendly and fast. We originally had patio seating but were assaulted by flies, and had to be relocated inside. Even though the place is small with limited seating, we got a table inside pretty quickly. Midway Grille is a small place located in a strip shopping center with Lowe's Food. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. I ordered the hamburger steak (medium rare) with mushroom gravy, wild rice and a side salad. Overall, I was well pleased. The spring mix salad was very fresh and delicious. I liked everything else as well. The only thing that could have made it better would have been for my entree to been cooked a little less. Service was average. read more

Shame on us for not trying this place sooner! Just because it's not in Southport or Oak Island doesn't mean it's not worth the short drive. Trust us--you'll be glad you did! We visit the area 2-3 times a year for vacation, and somehow, we never ventured up to this restaurant until now. Well, that's changed because not only did we love it on our first visit, but we also came back a second time in the same week! Everything we tried was outstanding, and the friendly staff made the experience even better. On our first visit, it was a bit busy, so there was a slight wait between ordering and getting our food. But it's clear this is a local favorite because shortly after we arrived, people were lining up outside. The restaurant is relatively small with not many tables inside, but there is an outside area and if you hit it at the right time when the sun is not beaming directly overhead, it's quite lovely. I was looking for a nice place to have a casual dinner with a new friend but being unfamiliar with the area, asked her for a recommendation. She said the Midway Grille is well known to locals and a favorite of hers, so of course I agreed to meet here. So glad I did. We both had the Ruben, on her suggestion. It was fantastic. The corned beef is chopped and the sauerkraut is incorporated in and then finished with cheese. Perfectly toasted and not too greasy. Served with a side of fries. Very good. It is clear this is a local hangout as it was packed at 5:30 in January with 30 degree temperatures outside. It's a small restaurant in a shopping strip mall but don't let that discourage you from stopping by. Great staff, very friendly! read more

Very good chicken sandwich ! We loved that they give you enough French fries to share . Kids meal was small but they kids Liked the amount of fries just wish it was more chicken strips . Tucked into the Lowe's Food shopping center at the intersection of Midway and 211 in Bolivia, this underrated gem is tops with locals from nearby neighborhoods. Lunching with some of those local regulars, it was apparent why they love Midway Grille so much. Service is warm and personal, and during my visit, flexible, as they worked to accommodate our ever-expanding party by manipulating extra tables and chairs in the small indoor space. The food is a cut above the standard "Grille" fare, and while there aren't too many gluten free options, the spinach salad with house made vinaigrette was fresh and delicious and completely devoured. Other crowd favorites were the Reuben and the grilled meatloaf sandwich. Onion rings and sweet potato fries were clear winners in the sides department. read more

If you are over 70 then you'll like the food. Overall, it's a pretty average spot all things considered. The service was OK. Our server didn't know what beer was listed but she brought us all the options to review. We also asked for recommendations on the menu and the server seemed a tad clueless on what the good dishes were. Her response was "a lot of people order that so I think it's good." We arrived just before 5 as I have 2 young kids. It's a small little place and mostly crowded from old people. Overall it wasn't a bad experience but I wouldn't likely recommend it to a friend. read more

We found this restaurant as we were arriving in Oak Island. Came here on a Thursday afternoon and were seated right away even though it was busy. The place is clean with friendly service. I ordered shrimp scampi and it was fresh and not too oily. Portions are good and prices are reasonable. My husband's burger was huge! Meatloaf is all angus beef and was flavorful. We needed a quick lunch today and decided to try Midway Grille for the first time. The service was excellent and the food pretty good! We tried the patty melt, reubens, and cheese fries. We were all ravenous when we arrived so I think we wiped this out in ten minutes. The cheese fries were excellent. Reuben was good, not a lot of meat, but plenty of kraut. Patty melt is your regular cookie cutter patty but the onions and grilled bread made it delish! I was sold on them when I saw their health score and it is comforting that they take pride in maintaining a clean kitchen. We will definitely be back. read more

After driving to the beach, we stopped at Lowe's to get groceries. We saw signs for Midway Grille and I immediately started craving a grilled chicken sandwich. My husband and I called in our orders due to COVID-19 we aren't ready to dine in restaurants quite yet. I did notice a nice patio area, that would be nice to eat and enjoy an adult beverage at. I ordered the grilled chicken club with sweet potato fries and honey mustard. My husband got the regular grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings. This gem is tucked between a pet supply store and the UPS Store in the Midway Commons (Lowe's Foods). Indoor seating can be a bit limited, but the patio is great in nice weather. My favorites here are the grilled meatloaf sandwich and the smoked, pulled beef brisket. Add the sweet potato fries for a $2 upcharge that is totally worth it. The sandwiches are generous - I typically take half home for later. The cost is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. Service is uniformly excellent. Entrees and starters are also available and the beer and wine selections complement the food. read more

Love love love this restaurant. Wish they were open on the weekends . My husband and I are new to the area and we are trying out all the area restaurants looking for our go to place. Being from the northeast we are really missing a local diner . Midway grill fits the bill . Nothing super fancy but just good solid food . My favorite is the grilled cheese prepared on a buttery garlic toast and the side of plain old ridgie potato chips , My husband really enjoys the meatloaf , we had the nachos one night and were delighted with the choice of chilli with or without beans . The restaurant is small and a bit noisy but we don't mind the close seating and chatting with our "neighbors " . There is outdoor seating as well: Service is quick and super friendly . Good place for lunch burgers loaded fries. As for dinner it may be a reach for this local spot. Sides did not taste as I would have hoped based on the price my green beans were from a can, and my mashed potatoes and gravy were not homemade. We went two days in a row. Yesterday I had a mushroom swiss burger, today the hotdogs. My husband had the hamburger steak yesterday and the meatloaf today. Yes they are social distancing. They are wearing masks and cleaning. What's scary is I paid $14 for two hotdogs, fries and a drink. We just moved from another part of the state and that meal would have been $6.99 including drink. I'm including my receipt so you can see. The meatloaf was sweet. We knew it would be. My husband felt the mashed potatoes were instant. But y'all they do have amazing hand cut fries. The hamburger from yesterday was good. The texture was like a frozen patty but not the taste. They assumed me it was never frozen, but they do receive the Angus beef as patties thus the texture.. I have to give this place 5 stars because for what it is, a basic neighborhood spot that is very casual, very local, it's great. I had their ever popular meatloaf sandwich. this comes on grilled garlic sourdough bread that is very much like Texas Toast. I also had their fantastic sweet potato fries. My dining companion had the meatloaf plate with mashed potatoes. While we both had basically the same dish and did not get the chance to try any other of their scrumptious looking sandwiches, since this was our first time here we can say unequivocally WE WILL BE BACK. I look forward to quick easy suppers with my partner who loves reuben sandwiches and will no doubt try Midway Grille's version. I look forward to trying some of their soups and salads- this is the food I should be eating so I will need to reign in the temptation to order their pulled pork bbq sandwich or grilled cheese or smoked pulled beef brisket. On my way back from Oak Island Lighthouse to OIB, wanted something light, fresh, thought about a salad. Stopped in at Midway Grille, was greeted very pleasantly by Sarah, I opted to eat outside. I ordered the BLT, with sweet potato fries, and a hazy IPA, Tori delivered all with a smile, it was PERFECT!!! Everything was fabulous, I recommend this hidden gem highly!
