Came today with a couple of friends for the first time. Was greeted by three friendly people right at 11:30 when they opened. We sat inside. They got super busy as soon as we sat down we ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were a bit bland but tasted ok. I ordered the seafood pasta with garlic bread. It had plenty of scallops and shrimp and the sauce was devine! My friends had the haddock and said it was yummy as well. They have outdoor eating as well as a heated patio section. Delicious gem located along main area of this beach town. Parking lot kinda small as is the inside of this restaurant. There's a bar and seated area for dining. They also have a pet friendly outdoor eating area that has its own little alcohol shack. Every person is friendly and helpful. We sat at the bar. You can tell this is a good place just by the interactions of their employees. Ordered two drinks and the grouper fingers. One drink was a rum based that I can't remember the name of, but it was good. The local Bloody Mary was great and comes with a smorgasbord of garnish. We are talking fried oysters, steamed shrimp, pickled okra, olives, celery, bacon, pickled peppers! All were tasty. The drink itself was fabulous. I like it spicy with horseradish, but this was good without having horseradish. Would highly recommend. Might want to tell them to add old bay or tajin rim of interested. We came to Shagger Jacks around 7:30pm on a Friday night and surprisingly there wasn't a wait, despite their being a ton of cars in the lot. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and portions were generous. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, which is cool. The place was hopping, but settled down quite a bit by the time we ate and left. While visiting OKI we stopped in Shagger Jacks. Parking was a bit tight but we did end up finding a spot. We were greater by a friendly hostess who sat us at a high top table. Shagger Fried Oysters- crunchily satisfied my cravings for them. I seldom eat oysters, but I love them. These ones were plump and nicely fried, almost greaseless. The dip was of honey mustard, which was a good pair but I probably would have liked malt vinegar as well. Shout out to April, cheery and kind- the perfect personality to welcome us. Nice place for some good and quick food. We were seated immediately, and the food came out super quick. I had the mahi taco and the flounder taco. Both were really good. The mahi was probably a little better with the hot sauce. The black bean and rice side was just "ok". Nothing great about that. Everyone else at my table liked their food as well (chicken sandwich, bbq chicken taco, captures flatbread). Service was great. Our party of 4 had Monday dinner here. Very good food and service. It's summer so yes you will wait, we were about 30 mins at 730pm Monday. Grouper taco was excellent, lots of choices of non seafood too. While you wait outside they have a small bar which makes the time go by. This place is a win! read more

This place is a gem. Second time here. It's always so busy so we usually come during the late afternoon. Our waitress was so sweet! We got some appetizers and they were great! Bang bang shrimp was super good though I wish they were tossed in the sauce! The fired pickles were so good! Lightly battered so you really got that pickle flavor! I got the fried oysters. They were really good! Crispy with a great oyster flavor too. Not too greasy. It came with fries which were great! Well salted and super Cristy! They are skinnier fries. I finished the meal with a piece of chocolate cake and man was it good. Super moist and fluffy. The icing to cake ratio was perfect. It reminds me of lava cake without the chocolate inside. Second chances! I believe in second chances even though we rarely get them in our lives. So when we do, we should embrace them fully and acknowledge the rare gift of a second opportunity to change an emotion or thought , expression, perception or action. As an actor, I've always loved callbacks! Another opportunity to assess and showcase your talents for a particular theatrical production. As a father, it was great to have a second child and see if I could do better the second time around with discipline, time together and nurturing. As a friend, I have always welcomed a reconciliation with hopes that a friendship can flourish with a second chance after a falling out or disappointment which is bound to happen over a lifetime with someone. Sometimes second chances don't work out. I had a very negligent and absent father. After years of non-communication and a few years of therapy, I made an attempt in my mid-20s to reconnect with my father and create a relationship. Some people never change. He was as selfish and self-indulgent as ever and had absolutely no interest in me or my life. No regrets, but that second chance sucked! This was not the case when I recently dined at Shagger Jack's on Oak Island. It has become a running joke in my family that my daughter and son-in-law love that place, But my Mom and I hated it because we thought it was too expensive and the portions were too small. So over the years, I have always teased my kids about going there and always refrain from returning there to dine. Well it was just me and my daughter for dinner recently on Oak Island and when Daddy told her she can go anywhere she wants, she picked Shagger Jacks! I had a completely different experience this time than I did the last! Although the parking lot was packed, I found a space nearby and we got seated really fast at a nice table for two. The service was quick and courteous and although I remember the prices being high, in reality, the prices at Shagger Jack's were not that much more than other places on the island and that's just the way it is with restaurants these days; especially nice ones. We ordered green fried tomatoes as an appetizer and I was impressed and surprised at the hearty portion they brought and how delicious they were. Yum! Then our main meals came. I ordered the seafood pasta. My daughter was in shock because I usually only eat pasta with marinara sauce but this one came with a cream sauce. When the plate arrived it was overflowing with everything I love when it comes to seafood and pasta. The portion was so big that I only ate half and took the other home which was inhaled the following afternoon. Devon's sea bass dish was also delicious because I tried some lol. She was so happy to see that I was changing my mind about this place because I know how much she loves it. By the time we finished our dinner, the place had thinned out and we had a nice lovely conversation including how much we enjoyed the meal! My daughter loves it when she is right and I am wrong! And so I'm glad I gave Shagger Jacks a second chance. Easy to park, short wait for a table, lovely staff, quick but not rushed service, large portions, delicious food and walking distance to the ocean! I know my daughter has raved about the tacos there as well, so check it out. I would have to say at this point I am becoming a fan of Shagger Jacks and would definitely go back to try another dish.
