Seafood pasta
Lynne A.

Came today with a couple of friends for the first time. Was greeted by three friendly people right at 11:30 when they opened. We sat inside. They got super busy as soon as we sat down we ordered the fried green tomatoes. They were a bit bland but tasted ok. I ordered the seafood pasta with garlic bread. It had plenty of scallops and shrimp and the sauce was devine! My friends had the haddock and said it was yummy as well. They have outdoor eating as well as a heated patio section. Decent sized bar too. Customer service excellent! Parking lot kinda cramped when it gets busy. I will be back for sure!

Delicious gem located along main area of this beach town. Parking lot kinda small as is the inside of this restaurant. There's a bar and seated area for dining. They also have a pet friendly outdoor eating area that has its own little alcohol shack. Every person is friendly and helpful. We sat at the bar. You can tell this is a good place just by the interactions of their employees. Ordered two drinks and the grouper fingers. One drink was a rum based that I can't remember the name of, but it was good. The local Bloody Mary was great and comes with a smorgasbord of garnish. We are talking fried oysters, steamed shrimp, pickled okra, olives, celery, bacon, pickled peppers! All were tasty. The drink itself was fabulous. I like it spicy with horseradish, but this was good without having horseradish. Would highly recommend. Might want to tell them to add old bay or tajin rim of interested. The grouper bites - so not leave without these. You can tell they are beyond fresh and made to order. These are not frozen!! Overall a great experience that we enjoyed. Would return. Super super affordable and reasonable price!!

We have been here many times. We always sit outside. The service is always great. The food is always really good regardless of time of day.

Dog friendly, beach vibe. I got the crabcakes and hubby got the fried oysters. Both were good. Waitress was pleasant and attentive.

B.E.L.T (a BLT with a fried egg)

We came to Shagger Jacks around 7:30pm on a Friday night and surprisingly there wasn't a wait, despite their being a ton of cars in the lot. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and portions were generous. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, which is cool. The place was hopping, but settled down quite a bit by the time we ate and left. Pickle chips appetizer was a strong choice. Also ordered the B.E.L.T (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato) and it was on point! Kids meals were enjoyed as well. We would totally go back again!

Two tacos (grouper and shrimp) rice and beans

While visiting OKI we stopped in Shagger Jacks. Parking was a bit tight but we did end up finding a spot. We were greater by a friendly hostess who sat us at a high top table. There were various kinds of seating...outside, high tops, regular tables and bar seating. We had a couple of cocktails that were very good. The food was also VERY good. The blackened grouper was FANTASTIC. Best we've had in a long time!!! We also split a dessert that was very yummy. Highly recommend!!!

Crunchy and juicy and plump!! Shagger Fried Oysters.
Penelope M.

Shagger Fried Oysters- crunchily satisfied my cravings for them. I seldom eat oysters, but I love them. These ones were plump and nicely fried, almost greaseless. The dip was of honey mustard, which was a good pair but I probably would have liked malt vinegar as well. Shout out to April, cheery and kind- the perfect personality to welcome us. So the following day, we did more orders for take out. They had two long patio tables outside that allowed pets.

Fish Tacos

Awesome food! Caribbean Chicken is the stuff! Fish Tacos too. Burgers are big, beefy & tasty! Definitely recommend a visit.

The order was ready on time…read moreand all the extra stuff you'd want was already packed up (I.e. silverware, extra napkins, sauces, etc). The food held up pretty well to carrying out (that's not always the case). The portions were great and the kids meals met my kids' very specific standards! I would definitely recommend it as a man easy option for carry out food if you're staying on the island and can't be bothered to dine out like us (my kids wouldn't leave the pool!!)

Our waiter and the staff were all friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout the evening. We started with the fried shrimp appetizer, which had far too much breading and overwhelmed the shrimp itself. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside but undercooked and doughy in the center. My husband and I both ordered the OKI Surf & Turf. The crab cake was the standout of the meal--flavorful and well prepared--but the filet tasted more like a sirloin than a tender filet. My mother-in-law ordered the scallops, which arrived undercooked and had to be sent back. While the kitchen quickly corrected the issue, the scallops that came back had a weird texture. We also had a Caesar salad and a garden salad. Both were fresh enough, but neither was particularly memorable. The garden salad included Asiago cheese, which overpowered the other ingredients rather than complementing them. $3 extra for each salad-- not worth it. The atmosphere was beachy and casual with tons of young families. The bar had an older crowd but fun. I would suggest that the bar should have a frozen drink machine or blender for frozen drinks. Overall, the service was great and the staff worked hard to make our experience enjoyable, but the food was disappointing and not something we'd go out of our way to return for.

People, passions, skills and caring are artfully combined at this outstanding intimate, charming and embracing gem of a Craft Bar and neighborhood fine dining experience! From reading/sampling the (creative does not do it justice) beverage menu, a diverse, succinct and dazzling offering of culinary knockouts (we sampled three) and the gracious hosts, we were... overwhelmed. We live in Tucson AZ and have frankly traveled in most states in this great country and journeyed to scores of nations across the globe. RARELY have we found a place that genuinely earns A BEST of THE BEST of Local Kudos. Loco Jo's does that and even more! But be advised, if you are looking for "same ole same ole" or "just like we had at ________" please do not seek it out. One final note, we really scoped out the room, tables and barstools. We were amongst folks who really were equally as discerning! Thank you Nikki & Chuck!

Outdoor seating is available. Small tables inside and bar seating that was full. It seems the bar is a big hit. After reviewing the liquor menu, I see why. Some really good ones available. We were seated near the entrance at a small table. The server brought us water and took our orders after a few minutes. We ordered beef dumplings as an appetizer and we both ordered blackened ahi tuna tacos medium rare. The tacos come with chips and salsa. Our appetizer arrived fairly quickly and was great. As we were finishing our appetizer, our tacos arrived. From first glance they looked really good. Then everything kind fell after that. The flour taco shells were cold and looked store bought. The cheese was also similar to the store bought shredded Mexican blend. The sauce tasted like mayonnaise and ketchup mixed together. They use way too much purple cabbage with a nice portion of ahi tuna. The taste was ok. The cold shell and cheese kind of stole the flavor from the tuna. The salsa provided had a strange smoky almost chipotle flavor. I think. It left a strange aftertaste. We wanted to give this place a try. Not sure we'll be back. Our server was good. She was attentive and smiled. We still have her a cash tip that was pretty good. The restaurant has a great vibe and has a lot of regular customers, as evidenced by everyone greeting each other as they entered. Overall, I think three stars is fair. I recommend giving it a try, but not for tacos.

The Lowdown: Amazing ocean views, reasonably priced drinks, friendly locals mixed with tourists,…read morefun entertainment, and an all-around great beach bar atmosphere. Our girls' trip to Oak Island continued with a stop at The Lazy Turtle, and it definitely lived up to its name--in the best way possible. Parking is located across the street, and even though the place was packed the night we visited, there was still plenty of parking available. We didn't order any food this time around, but the drinks were reasonably priced, poured well, and exactly what we needed after a day at the beach. One of my favorite parts of the evening was the crowd. It was such a fun mix of locals and visitors, and everyone we met was genuinely friendly. It's one of those places where people actually smile, strike up conversations, and make you feel welcome. The entertainment was... memorable! The DJ was wearing a parrot on his head, so naturally I was expecting nonstop Jimmy Buffett, flip-flops, and full-on island vibes. Instead, he surprised me with a completely different playlist--but honestly, it worked! The crowd was having a great time, and so were we. They also tossed out free T-shirts during one of the games, and somehow I managed to snag one! I may or may not have celebrated like I'd just won the lottery. Between the ocean views, the lively atmosphere, the friendly people, and my unexpected T-shirt victory, The Lazy Turtle ended up being one of our favorite stops on the island. If you're looking for a fun, casual place to grab a drink, enjoy the view, and soak up the Oak Island vibe, this one is definitely worth checking out.
