I used them for shredding 70 lbs. of paper. It was done in two minutes. You can shred up to 175 lbs. for $75 and watch them do it for your own peace of mind. It's near Midway Airport by Pulaski off ramp and 41st Street just off I-55. The owner Alan was very nice and accommodating for my small shredding job compared to their huge operation of recycling. HIDE YOUR JEWELRY I am very disappointed to be writing this review. I've used Midway Moving in the past and always had fairly good experiences. However, my last move resulted in two diamond rings missing from two separate houses along the move route. I noticed my engagement ring was missing the evening of the move after the movers had left. I immediately started looking everywhere for the ring thinking it might have fallen out of my jewelry box - I searched in the carpet, in the bathroom vents, under the sink, etc. I did not want to accuse anyone of theft; even though the thought did cross my mind, I decided to give the movers the benefit of the doubt. However, when I spoke with my mother two days later she told me her diamond ring also went missing the day of the move (my parents' house was the original destination of our move). At that point I knew I could stop looking for my ring - I knew it was stolen and so was my mother's ring. I've had my ring for three years, and I've never once misplaced or lost it. My mother has had her ring for over 32 years, and she has never misplaced or lost it. It's too much of a coincidence that both of our rings would go missing the very same day - much less the same day Midway Movers were in both of our houses. I called Midway Moving to report the issue and was told I would receive a call back after they "looked into it." As of today I still have not received a response - not even an "I'm sorry." I am heartbroken to think of how hard my husband worked to save up the money to buy that ring for me. Aside from the money lost, the ring also had sentimental value - it was the ring my husband held in his hands when he got down on one knee and proposed to me; it is the ring that was blessed on our wedding day. This company is terrible! Do not trust! I had two guys come to move my stuff. They were very kind but extremely slow. It took them around three hours to move my stuff which would have taken me and my husband maybe an hour. The apartment contained only big items left when we hired them. They also started to yell at each other during the move and then started to get a disagreement and made me feel very uncomfortable! So I called the company during the move and they responded great and opened a case! But when I called back saying that my furniture was scratched they started to not answer my phone calls. I emailed the lady that was in charge of my case seven times and she never responded! I called di times and each time they said I would hear from a manager within 24 hours! And I never did! When I finally got a hold of someone then explained how to file a claim. I filed it and waited for them to ask for photos, I called and called waiting for an update and email a few more times. I finally received an email saying the claim was denied. No explanation! I emailed Vince one more timing saying how upset I was and no response. Don't use this company. This is a review in regards to their shredding services. I was doing some cleaning out this summer and had lots of papers to be shredded. In doing a search for a safe place to do that Midwest came up. Because I was off I was able to attend one of their regular shredding days outside their place of business. It was incredibly easy and the gentleman there was very friendly and welcoming. And a bonus was that he held off using the shredder to allow another woman time to get her child to come over see how the shredding truck worked which I even thought was kind of cool to see. And you could actually see your papers getting shredded. It would be really great if there were even more shredding times in the after work hours. Let's start by saying this is the worst company I have ever used! They do not deserve any stars from me! It took them 8 hours to move a one bedroom apartment to another one bedroom apartment and one of the buildings was an elevators building! I originally ordered 2 guys to do the job and about 30 Minutes before my scheduled time they asked me if I wanted to add a guy for $27 extra and ensured that it would be a faster move, little did I know that this move would take a whole day! Upon arrival the guys all were complaining that my job was not a small job and that they did not have room on their truck for my stuff (there was already someone else's stuff on the truck when they arrived). After taking 4 hours to move my stuff to the truck it took them 1.5 hours to make it to my place when it only should've taken then 40 minutes tops! After they finally made it to my place they argued about the fact that they thought it was best to move in the front door. The front door in fact was too small to move the couch and large items in. One of the guys snapped at me and said "well If you want it to take a longer time to move then we will go through the back." Ok, well my furniture did not fit and he broke the lamp in the lobby so of course they had to go through the back! Then one of the guys insulted my apartment and said "these boxes aren't even going to fit in your new apartment." Ok I'm not paying you for your opinion, thanks! The guys also offered to use some of their materials at no change but later told me "these materials are not free and ordered me to unpack them instantly." I tried to ask questions to understand why he now wanted to changed me and the worker (Luis) decided to yell at me to the point where I felt threatened and that he might attack me. He even called dispatch as if I was arguing with him when all in all I was trying to communicate with him to understand what was going on. After finally finishing the job the guys charged me $1100 for a one bedroom move! What???!!!! I didn't hardly have any furniture and the move should not have taken that long, my quote was for about $500! While I realize that this was an estimate the total more than doubled when it was all said and done!This was the worst experience I have ever had with any moving company and I will never suggest that anyone use them in the future!!!! Furthermore customer service was no help in trying to make me at ease about the situation, I could not even receive a proper call back to resolve the situation! The reasons my move from Hyde Park out to the burbs near Schaumburg could have gone wrong were countless: 1) Pouring down rain the entire time 2) Tight-narrow twisting stairs to my 3rd floor vaulted ceiling walk-up 3) Large-cumbersome WHITE leather furniture pieces... I could go on and on, but the fact is...NONE of that mattered when it came to George and team's dedication to providing STELLAR service across the board! They showed up on-time with a plan of action, that was nothing short of phenomenal. From the large furniture pieces to the numerous runs of box after box of shoes (my better half owns a veritable shoe store in their closet) - there was not one second of complaint, hesitation, or unwillingness to do what it takes to get the job done (all of which I experienced with a different moving company on the move in to our condo). I'm a hard customer in that micro-managing is something I'm unfortunately prone to do (minor control freak tendencies) but the true reflection of my comfort level with what was going on was that I indeed ran errands for a bit! Seems small stakes but for me that's MONUMENTAL - they really put me at ease right away and after twiddling my thumbs while they nailed the service for awhile...felt comfortable enough to multi-task! Even to the point of correcting an assembly issue on one of the guest beds that was created by the initial delivery team (quick stop off at Menards and George had us all set!) - I can not say enough about the night and day experience, even in an adverse situation these guys really WOW'd me from start to finish! If ever we move again, I can tell you my first call will go to the Midway team - the amount of stress that was relieved when I could firsthand see the commitment, patience, and extreme care they were taking to ensure a damage-free move was completed was worth every penny spent and then some! I wanted to give Midway Moving five stars since I had a great recommendation for them, however the crew fell short of my expectations. PROS: They moved everything safely and efficiently from my old apartment to my new one, with no visible dents or scratches. CONS: The movers were scheduled to arrive between 9:00am and 10:00am and I got a call from the front desk that my visitors checked in at 8:38am. They came up to our apartment around 8:50 to begin work. Granted this wasn't a huge deal since both my roommate and I were ready to go, however they set the starting hour as 8:30 (i.e. when we start paying them) even though they weren't scheduled until 9:00 and they didn't actually start working until 8:50. One of the men used my bathroom during the move (he didn't ask my permission, but again not a huge deal). I only point this out because not only did he leave the seat up, but he missed in several places and it was honestly disgusting to clean up. After about two hours Dwayne let us know that they had one more trip to make down to the truck. We said that's great, and waited for them to return to our unit. After 15-20 minutes had gone by and none of the movers came back, we decided to call the Midway Moving office and see what was going on. It turns out that the crew had already started driving to our new building and didn't tell us that we should also leave. I got a call from Dwayne with a bit of an attitude where he defended himself that there was no way we were waiting 20 minutes for them, and that he thought we knew to meet them at the new building. We arrived at the new building to see that the movers had been sitting there since we needed to get our keys first. Communication would've been key here so that we were not paying for the movers to sit in the driveway. At another point during the move, Dwayne made it a point to tell me that there was no way that we were waiting 20 minutes for them - this was an unnecessary comment and it left a bad taste for the remainder of the move. During the move in the new unit, the movers put furniture in front of outlets and we ended up having to move furniture after they moved. For the couch for example, they could've asked which way we wanted it facing so that we didn't have to move it again. The move concluded at about 12:50 (I checked my phone for the time), however Dwayne put down 1:00 as the end time since they "needed to get back to the truck and that would take time." In the past, the movers that I've worked with don't round up both at the start and finish of a move and consequently have the customer pay more. I said that I wanted to inspect the truck before signing the final papers, but he asked that I sign them when we were still in the unit (i.e. acknowledging that I'd inspected the truck even though I hadn't at that point). Overall, I would not use this crew again nor would I recommend them to a friend. read more

I hate moving but Midway made it the most stress-less experience possible! Even when we faced with issues problems that most companies would just give up on, they came up with a solution. For example, the new place we moved into had smaller doorways than standard, and they made the pieces fit without damaging anything and getting it done, all in the time they quoted us at. if you need an office move or personal move, I would HIGHLY recommend Midway. The guys were good movers, but they should be taught to be conscientious not to force things into tight spaces, although it was well meaning. I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint against this company. Do NOT use them. They will arrive late, take an exceedingly long time moving your belongings, and then will be completely callous when you express dismay with their service. Here are my issues with Midway: Midway Moving & Storage, Inc.'s ("Midway Moving") arrived at my former home, loaded my belongings, and then unloaded those belongings at my new home. However, Midway Moving's rendering of these services requires a rating of ZERO stars... alas, 1-star is the lowest rating I could give. The quick and dirty: the movers were (1) exceedingly late in arriving to the job - they were over 4 hours late; (2) physically incapable of moving my belongings due to the movers' physical ailments and the fact that my move was their second job of the day after a very long and tenuous day of another moving job; and (3) exhibited extremely poor customer service. These three issues will be explained in detail below. 1. Late Arrival Midway Moving was scheduled to arrive at 1pm but did not arrive until after 5pm. Because they were so late, the company sent a third mover but charged us for this extra mover rather than attempt remedial measures that would make up for its tardiness by sending additional movers free of charge. 2. Physical Inability to Complete the Job on Time and Within Budget Despite informing Midway Moving that we were moving from a third floor apartment with no elevator and that we had items in our first floor storage unit, Midway Moving sent movers that had visible physical ailments. One mover was an older man whose back was curved to such a point that he could not stand up straight. I often observed this mover rubbing his back and complaining of his back issues. Midway Movers then required these fatigued and aching movers to strap my belongings onto their backs to move down three flights of stairs, resulting in greater physical effort and time expended. I have hired other moving companies in the past and none of them have used these arcane and physically debilitating methods to move my belongings. 3. Poor Customer Service When we complained to the manager, he expressed disinterest and a lack of empathy. He also did not make any attempt to resolve the slow service and severe lateness. Because the movers were so late arriving and were slow in moving my belongings, it took them approximately 4 hours to load the truck and then another 4 hours to unload. The movers themselves complained of the amount of work, moved slowly, took cigarette breaks, and all the while, we were on the clock. The movers also explained the poor and fraudulent business practices of Midway Moving in the midst of complaining about the amount of work. The movers described that Midway Moving has frequently informed the movers the morning of that they had a particular moving job to complete and Midway Moving frequently sent less than sufficient workers to complete the job so that the customers would be backed into a corner to order and pay for additional workers. One of the movers also described that they were informed of my particular job just an hour before they arrived and that they were already running behind on a very large job that very morning. They were physically tired when they arrived to my home to move my belongings. I was moving from a two bedroom apartment. The only large furniture items that they had to move were a bedroom set. I also had multiple book boxes. This was not a large and overly-strenuous job. The movers did not finish at our new home until after 1 a.m., disturbing our new neighbors in the process. Because they did not arrive at our home until after 5pm and because we took the day off of work to handle our move, we also could not hire a new moving company. The estimate was for approximately $400. When they arrived, that estimate increased to approximately $650. By the time they finished, I paid $881. From the mouths of their own workers, Midwest Moving conducts business in a manner that is both fraudulent and below industry standards. I advised the manager while speaking to him over the phone of my severe dissatisfaction with the service and outlined all of the above issues during the beginning of the job. I asked him what could be done to resolve this already dismal situation. He simply replied that he could pull the workers from the job but that we would still be charged for the drive and other fees that had already been taken out of my credit card account. Midway Moving represents the epitome of terrible service and their cursory response to my legitimate complaints (both on the day of the job and later to the BBB) is further evidence of why you SHOULD NOT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

On Tuesday afternoon I got a call from a sales manager (Charles) at Midway Moving who told me that the truck I was expecting on that Thursday morning would NOT be here until sometime the following week. It did not matter that I had contracted for the move six (6) weeks earlier and paid a big deposit. It did not matter that the Midway dispatcher had already called me to confirm the Thursday arrival. And No, there was no discount because they would miss their confirmed date. I'm not clueless. What mattered was that this sales manager could get a NEW customer's revenue if he redirected the truck that was supposed to be mine. And he must have assumed that there was nothing I could or would do about it. The customer's only recourse would be legal action and that wasn't going to make the truck arrive in 36 hours. The man did not even say he was sorry. He acted like he was rescheduling a car wash or tree trimming. It was absolutely no big deal to him. My impression was that they do this so much they are immune to the consequences to the customer. He also told me that showing up a week late was considered being "expedited." If your moving dates are very flexible and you don't mind last minute changes, then never mind. But if you need to be out of one place and/or into another on the agreed upon date(s) then I recommend you continue checking Yelp for companies with customer reviews that say the mover keeps their commitments. Also, check other websites (including Twitter). I only looked at Yelp. Now I know that a wider search would have given me more information about the business practices of Midway Moving. read more

I have used them twice before with good results. But this time, they needed to move me twice. Out of my place, into storage, then a month later into a new home. Broke the leg completely off my couch. Put two gashes on beautifully refinished antique dressers that were i pristine condition. Broke the ladder back off an antique chippendale dining room chair. All crew members pointed at each other when I pointed out something broken. "Hey man, I don't know how that happened. But we'll take care of it", they said. Well, they don't take care of it. Midway refused to pay a penny in damages, saying that the there was no way I could prove that THEY did the damage. Believe me, my stuff was in perfect condition. So I've used these guys a few times already for cross country moves. They got 2 stars because they never lost my stuff, but each time I used them something broke or got scratched. And even though each time I used them I payed for the insurance plan, I never saw a dime. They would say, "Oh, we'll have someone come out and weigh the item to see how much you will be reimbursed, but never once did they have someone come out to do it." I will not be using them again. Depending on the crew they can be pretty slow and careless, like knocking stuff into walls when moving it out of the apartment. If you want your things broken or some lazy movers then hire them. We hired them because we obviously needed our things moved to our new house. The day of the moved they were 45 mins late. The older man was trying to negotiate a "tip" before he even began to move anything. They forced us to sign the documents or they would not be able to move our items. Since we needed to be out by that day we signed the document not expecting our things to be damaged. The movers were not able to get our furniture in the house, they shattered our tv stand, damaged our leather couches, and still wanted a tip. Even after we gave them a tip, the gentlemen left and called us a few minutes later and said we never gave it to them. We filed claims for all our items and all we got was $55 for damaging the leather sectional, not getting our items in the house, and shattered tv stand. According to them, we signed our "bill of arrival" and no claim was called in at the time of accident. This company DOES NOT care about their costumers.DO NOT HIRE THEM!!! read more

I have used Midway Moving multiple times and each time has been a good experience. Setting up the move with Martha was simple, reliable, with no issues. Someone called to confirm details a few days before the move, which was good. On the day of the move, the guys did a great, quick job. When the guys arrive to load up the truck with your stuff, let them know up front if you want them to shrink wrap your furniture or not. These guys are great! I had a bunch of stuff to move from Chicago to NW Indiana, and even though I probably could have (eventually) got it done myself, I'd heard good things about Midway so I gave them a call. They worked with me to find an off-peak time to make the move as affordable as possible, which made using them a no-brainer. The real shocker was the service! Wow, I had no idea how much work was involved! These guys took care of everything, made sure not to track over my floors, covered all railings, etc to make sure nothing was damaged, and literally couldn't have made it any easier. And my stuff arrived precisely when I'd requested. In addition, they kept me posted all along so I knew what was happening. They had plenty of extra packing materials--which I ended up needing (even though they didn't charge me for most of what I used!). In addition, they were really flexible and conscientious with some boxes of files I realized I didn't need moved--they suggested I use their shredding service, and my lead move made sure to bring me the destruction receipt on the other end of the move. I had originally contracted MIdway for moving and I cancelled them as I had friends that said they would help and I rented a truck. Ty Porter who was who helped me set it up was very professional and couldn't of asked for anyone better to help. Moving day comes and first thing in the a.m. while I am moving a TV I re-tear my rotator cuff and down I go. I called Midway Moving and explained the situation (through tears) and they put in an urgent request and I get a call 20 minutes later from dispatch to tell me they have a 4 man crew that will be at my home in 1 hour. The crew shows up on time, explains the time limits they are looking at, and start to go to work. The crew was professional, friendly, during this time of COVID19 they wore masks, and I could not have asked for anything more. The cost was exactly what the estimate was for and finished on time. I used Midway Moving for three residential moves during my twelve years in Chicago. The most recent move was the big one - probably the final one with Midway - getting me out of Chicagoland and into Rhode Island. I am quite happy with Midway. All three moving crews were prompt and friendly. They worked hard (sometimes a little too hard, with a junior crewmember pulling off heroics that made me fear for their safety and my stuff). But all told, aside from very minor issues (some chipped paint on a doorway here, a cracked tote lid there), they got the moves done efficiently, my possessions safe and sound, the residences on both ends in unscathed condition. They were smart about packing stuff and weren't fazed by disassembling furniture as needed to cope with tight stairwells in third-floor walkups. Some extra commendations for the long distance move: I paid for a normal, ostensibly 7-10 business day, move to the east cost. A dispatcher found space for me on a truck where someone was doing an expedited move to NYC. I had to hustle to get to the east coast in time, and when I rolled up to the new house on a Saturday evening maybe 55 hours after they picked up my stuff, they were waiting there, ready to unload. How sweet is that? Note also that my stuff was personally driven and delivered by the guys who packed it on the same truck they packed it into. I went into the move worrying that my property would be stashed in some lot or warehouse, transferred between trucks, and maybe even tendered to a sketchy mover on the Rhode Island side. The move was far more "white glove" in this regard than I expected. I'm deducting one star for general low-level "shadiness" I've seen among many moving companies. For the big ticket long distance move, the salesman offered an aggressively lowball quote. When I tried to have him help me understand how the lowball quote would turn into a final price (if the poundage was higher, which it was, and if I needed some final packing help, which I did), he got a little cagey. The price ended up being right where I thought it would be - a whole lot more than the quote. Also, in at least two of the three moves, the foreman of the crew approached me or my significant other with a negotiation to "round down" on the billable packing labor or materials in exchange for heavy tips. I find this sort of thing irritating. I can imagine a world where salesmen give customers honest quotes, the office pays its movers well, and the movers report the billable facts to the office accurately. That would be a much nicer world. Midway did a horrible job moving my condo. The crew showed up smelling like marijuana which should have led me to cancel the move but I didn't have enough time to reschedule so unfortunately I let the move go on. They destroyed my dinning room table and broke the glass on my living room table. They we're unable to find one of the feet to my elliptical trainer and they insisted that it never had the foot. When I went out to examine their truck the missing foot was underneath one of their pads. Midway did an absolutely horrible job and I will never use them again nor would I recommend them to anyone. read more

Do not use them! they wouldn't even pay for damages per their coverage guidelines which were slim anyway. 40 cents on the pound. I had an expensive heavy couch and they wouldn't give me anything for the tear in it! They broke so many items and wouldn't cover a single thing! STAY AWAY read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! Do not use this company!!! Arrived late, took way too long to move, and broke numerous items. Also, didn't wrap any furniture and everything arrived scratched, dirty, or broken. I called the next day to request a credit for all the damages (because they say they have insurance for this) but they denied my claim and no one would speak with me or tell me why. Can't say more about the guys from Midway Moving. We called them in a last minute attempt to get our sofa hoisted over our 3rd floor balcony when our movers couldn't get it up the stairs. They came out within 2 hours and had the sofa upstairs and set in a matter of minutes. They were extremely professional and a life saver! Big thanks to Abraham, Brian and Jeff! read more

They were truly amazing and made a stressful situation a whole lot less stressful than it would've been...I've used them before but this time I had to move on the fly...like 48 hr fly. They arrived on time had to deal with some crazy crappy weather at the end of March (hail, rain,snow, wind) parking was impossible (Lakeview) nearly a block away 15th floor. I needed the boxes loaded in a certain way because I was moving to a temporary place and putting the rest in their new storage facility. They even had to return the next day due to my goofy building rules (same crazy weather). They finished quickly, the building engineer was quite impressed with how great they were in comparison to other companies. Later I had to go to the new storage facility to retrieve some things and they were very accommodating even fed and entertained my daughter while John helped me unload and reload boxes. Midway has been a great help at a really stressful time for me...will be using them again and recommending. read more

Do not use this company! Half of the reviews are 1 star now that I'm writing this review I should have read into them. I was given a quote which the sales rep included the storage fee for 3 months later to find out he did not include the storage fees and I had to pay extra. Also, if you want to go to your storage for something they charge you. Hidden fees with this company! Once I received my items, my desk is has stains on it, my dresser drawers are broken and an item of mine is missing (it was a large pack of toilet paper.) I know not that big of a deal, but it's kind of ridiculous it's missing! Not a good experience with them. read more
