She provided excellent service with a smile, gave fantastic recommendations, and even offered us a drink to go. She was training a new staff person and her patience was evident. This is an unassuming little place with a great menu. Their Gouda grits are thick and cheesy, but for me their biscuits were the standout. I tried their midtown biscuits and they were 10/10. My husband, who LOVES chicken and biscuits got their Nashville Hot chicken biscuits, with a side of gravy to smother on top. He kept raving about how good it was. After dinner later that day (at an excellent restaurant) he said the best bite of the day was the chicken biscuit. Heck, that might be his favorite of the trip! Midtown Cafe is a cute place! When we arrived, we saw valet parking right up front which was so easy. My friend was already seated inside so we walked right in. Our server was very friendly and provided lots of suggestions. I got an unsweetened iced tea to start and tried a mini biscuit on the table. Eric R. ordered the shrimp and grits with fried egg after seeing it both on the brunch and lunch menus and was told it is the top seller. I got the mediterranean pasta and added blackened shrimp. From the moment we walked in to the time we left, it was about 30 minutes total, which is great if you're looking for a quick breakfast. While the presentation looked decent at first glance, the avocado didn't seem very fresh you could tell by the darker color. Fresh avocado should have a bright green appearance, so that was a bit disappointing. Flavor-wise, my breakfast was okay, nothing particularly memorable but still edible and satisfying enough. I made a reservation for brunch before I had to head to work because I saw they had gluten free options. I ordered the huevos tostada and it was amazing! It was such a large portion I couldn't finish it all the way but the flavor was amazing and I loved the green sauce that came with it. I couldn't finish mine, but ate over half of it. So, I didn't feel wasteful. The pictures speak for themselves. Try the hot chicken- flavorful and not salty like others I have tried. Their Gouda grits are super thick, but oh so flavorful. You may want a few pats of butter if you like them thinner. Sometimes the "old classics" get overlooked, so this is one time I'm willing to admit I was wrong. I was pleased that breakfast was available till 2pm, and the fried chicken biscuits were insanely good--crispy yet crispy chicken, luscious buttery biscuits. I'm still thinking about them several days later. My lunch buddy also loved her meal, the fish special of the day. Brunchin' in Music City!! We were visiting Nashville and my son and daughter in law suggested Midtown Cafe for brunch. Two great things were that they were able to make a reservation the day of which was great, and it was in walking distance of their apartment. We were seated immediately which was great. One con is that the place is small, but they have added mirrors to make it look bigger which really helped. The food was really good. I enjoyed the Midtown Breakfast that came with bacon, scrambled eggs and a fruit cup. The fruit cup had my favorites strawberries, madarin oranges and grapes rather than the typical cantaloupe and honeydew. There are too many choices for breakfast in Nashville and I was hitting analysis paralysis. In the end I went with my 10% discount from my hotel and went with Midtown Cafe - a very good call. Midtown is an institution (30+ years) in a city of institutions and it rightfully belongs there. I was a table for one so I headed straight to the bar. The very friendly waitress recommended the Green Tomato Benedict with a side of cheese (Gouda) grits which was a great call. The food arrived in a timely manner, piping hot and oh so delicious. And those grits! So delicious and some of the best I've ever had. No need to struggle over food choices - just go to Midtown. This place is absolutely a must, for anyone that wants excellent service (I recommend Makailah) and fantastic cuisine. Midtown Cafe was such a treat! We decided to eat here for date night before a show at TPAC. Having free valet & a shuttle to TPAC was so handy (pre reserved)! The food was incredible & the service was equally as good! We were impressed by how happy the staff seems to be working there & how much they all work as a team! Never once did we have to wait for a refill for a drink & as soon as we finished a plate there was somewhere there to take it. The food is high quality and matches the price point. The coconut cake dessert is phenomenal & I'd come back just for that! Our sever did a great job of setting the timelines to make sure we would make the shuttle & not have to rush through our dinner & even advised us what dessert to order or not order due to time!Everything about midtown cafe was wonderful & we'll def be back! It's not very big but it sure is good. I ordered eggs, bacon biscuits, and gravy and loved all of it. It certainly was super friendly. That café deals that enjoy and remember growing up with. I liked it so much. I tried to go back but they close at 2 PM in the afternoon as they prepare for dinner service and I arrived at 2:05 PM. There was no wait, but I did have to wait quite a bit for my server to take my order but other than that, the service was great overall. The food was great. Kind of didn't like the Reuben as the meat was very salty in my opinion but when we told the server, she was kind enough to replace it for us which was kind. This amazing place was within walking distance of our hotel. We did not have reservations, but had no problems getting seated right away. I loved the ambiance of this restaurant and the lighting was just perfect. I noticed that there was a small bar available with a great selection of bourbon. I decided to try the Caesar salad and Chicken Scaloppini. My husband ordered the salmon. His salmon was seasoned to perfection, the texture was great and the risotto was very good. My chicken was very tender and the flavor was just delicious! For dessert, we tried the Jack Daniels Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie. It was served with ice cream which made it even better. The service at this restaurant was excellent. This place was the perfect spot for a date night. There were a few groups of maybe 4-5 people, but it was not too loud. Overall, great dining experience.
