Visiting Denver for a few months and needed an oil change before driving back east. Everyone I talked to at Midtown (Scotty and Jeremiah) was SUPER friendly and were able to get us in the day of. Definitely a pricey oil change ($177). Inflation? Labor? Local spot? Who knows but they got the job done. They gave us a list of all the other items that could be fixed on the car (nothing urgent) which was really helpful. I have a 1985 VW Vanagon, A total nightmare to get through the Emission Process, 1st off the Emission station couldn't shift it, and/or get a completed the test... after 4 failed attempts they banned me from the station and sent me on my way, having me go to a different testing location. I finally found one that could get it through the test after many attempts.. IT Failed! was thinking it was the Catalytic Converter, which for this van is about $1,500.00 to be Carb compliant in Colorado... Was given Midtown Auto's name, I called them, they got me in to check it with a gas analyzer, (many shops do not have them) within a couple of days I got the news.. They adjusted different areas on the motors, gas air Etc., replaced the throttle housing (No Charge except labor). I had also mentioned the Emissions inability to shift the van and get it through the testing , so they adjusted the shift linkage also. Then they took it to the emission station, and got a passing test for me! What a relief !! These guys were professional and friendly. My only charges were for labor, It was so worth it, saving me the headache of finding a station to get it through the testing process, after the repairs. It runs and drives great! The most expensive oil change I have ever received. I was also told I needed $1500 worth of work on my car. Finally, they wanted me to come back in 3,000 miles for an oil change. We can go at least a 5,000 miles between oil changes. Such scammers. read more

Really can't say enough about this place. Ladies, you know its a gamble when you walk into any repair shop. In my experience, many try to over-charge me thinking I don't know anything about cars. I lived down the street from Midtown for two years. I'd walk past their shop with my dog and they always stopped to pet him (Dakota, the husky!) and referred to him by name when we walked by. He would pull me so we could get to their corner--he loved them. When my Honda needed some help, I decided to check them out. I've been back ever since. I like to support small family business, and given the good reviews, I took my recently purchased 2016 Nissan Rogue into Midtown Automotive for its first oil change in my hands. I dropped off at 9 AM and was told they'd call me when it was done in 1-2 hr, possibly earlier. After 3.5 hours, I called them and was told they were just finishing up. They charged $102 for a synthetic oil change, saying it was required for a Rogue. To my knowledge, synthetic oil is not required. My Nissan Murano ran fine on 5w30 oil for over a decade and never has anyone done a synthetic oil change, especially without communication. Between the shocking price and 3.5+ hr wait time, I would really not recommend. read more

I would give this place a million stars if I could, seriously the best experience I've ever had with a mechanic. They are super helpful, genuine, and friendly. They don't try to upsell or hide any fees, which if I feel like is always my main issue when trying out a new mechanic. We stopped by here in a pretty unique situation. I was traveling with one of my bands that was 3 weeks deep into a tour around the country when the van needed repairs. These guys were extremely accommodating of our situation. We came by first thing in the morning and they serviced us immediately, knowing we needed to get to the next city asap. When we told them we didn't have the budget for the full repairs, they tried to figure out what repairs would work with our budget and still get us on the road safely. They ended up going out of their way to give us a free oil change, washing our windows, and even gave us a leftover pizza they had from lunch. Nick's best friend has a '79 VW bus and swears by this man so when I needed an oil change and all around look-see at my Audi before driving it all the way to California I decided to take it here. The owner Scott may be the nicest mechanic I have ever met. He remembered me from my phone call and called me by name as soon as I walked in, even though we'd never met. Once I was there I went ahead and asked that they look at my car because there was a weird sound coming from the front passenger tire area. Turns out a CV axle boot had blown. (Look at me using words I don't understand!) Jeremy was the mechanic working on my car and he was awesome at explaining what was wrong and showing me the fix using parts. The quote was exact and they fixed it that day which was awesome. Do call ahead if you plan on stopping by. These guys REALLY go the distance for you. Up in Lone Tree, you got your slick dudes in slick matching overalls, in Wash Park, you've got your guys listening to the latest band-you-know-nothing-about, but here.. Here, you've got a family owned, operated group of hardcore mechanics who really know their shit. Today was about the fourth time I've taken my vehicle there, AND I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO TAKE IT THERE! I returned from a business trip and my car wouldn't start. Kind of a suck welcome home, if you ask me.. Anyway, I call these guys and I'm freaking. "DUDE!" I say. "DUDE!", "CAR, clicking! NO START! HELP!", "Canyougetatowtruckintoaparkingstructurecausemytruckisstuckandparkedand.." and they're all like, "No worries dude. Can't get a tow truck in there, but I can get two dudes in there who will get your vehicle running, we'll limp it back here, fix it and even drive it back to you." Shortly thereafter, it's good to go. I've had cars worked on, all around the world. I've seen good, I've seen bad. I've even traded a case of Budweiser for an alternator replacement, (I'll write about that later), but I can and will honestly say that these guys are worth it. They're spot-on, trustworthy and fantastic. Really can't say enough good things about Midtown Auto. All my vehicles will be taken care of by these guys. read more

I think this place is alright if you're a man. As a woman, these guys did everything they could to rip me off. I was suckered in about 4 months ago with the free oil change for customers. I thought, I will be loyal to these guys. So when my oil needed changing again, I took it there. Not only was I dinged with a $50 bill (for an oil change?! you have to be joking) but I was told my brakes were on their last legs, my tires were bald, my struts were broken and leaking. All in all, the estimates came to over 2k. So I took it, on Thanksgiving day to my uncle's house, who is a mechanic some 100 miles away. Turns out, my breaks are fine, a little worn, but nothing to worry about now (not like the ticking time bombs that Midtown informed me I was driving around with). My tires are not bald, having, in fact, taken them to Goodyear to get snow tires put on for the winter. Goodyear said NOTHING about having bald tires. My tires are fine. As for the struts, yes I need new ones, but the estimate my uncle gave me (that any reasonable mechanic would expect to pay at a retail shop) was HALF of what the kind fellas at Midtown suggested. Basically, labor costs are outrageous, they will sell you any and all parts they can, even if they have to duct tape them on the car, the "shop supplies" are ridiculous and mysterious considering everything else is perfectly itemized. Bottom line? Ladies, DO NOT GO HERE. And any friends of women, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

There is not time enough to describe how AMAZING the folks at Midtown Automotive are. We were in town from the Springs to check out an '84 VW Vanagon and on a whim went to Midtown for our pre-purchase inspection. They were incredibly thorough, honest, informative and efficient. Not very many people have the experience working on such a unique vehicle but they didn't blink an eye. Whether you have an older vehicle or any vehicle at all, you will be able to relax when taking your vehicle there and know without a doubt what capable hands your auto will be in. The owner and all workers there give you the feel of being family (not surprising as the shop has been passed down through the generations) Let me put it this way, we live an hour and a half south of the shop and are going to commute that distance just because of how wonderful of an experience they gave us. In summary, no matter the vehicle (especially Westys- they specialize in them and can do EVERY manner of service/upgrade) GO TO MIDTOWN! They are truly the best. I had two experiences with these people. First was for an oil change. Turned out to be not so simple. They called me and told me that I had a leak and it would cost $120 to fix. Not realizing I said ok, had the car fixed, no issue. Second time I had an issue with squeaky breaks. I took them here and they called me up several hours later telling me I needed all new breaks front and back, new rotors, new break fluid, and a few other things. Cost, over $1100. I had 1 thing done, which was the break fluid. I took the car for a second opinion to my dodge dealer in Golden. When they looked at the car they told me my rotors were fine, and the squeak is due to low cost aftermarket break pads. I had all 4 changed. Cost me $400. These people saw my NY plates and tried to take advantage. They are highly unprofessional. They will tell you that there are things wrong with your car and act like it is an immediate fix so that they can rob you of your money. Do NOT Go here. read more

My first visit here was back in '99 or so and still to this day I take my cars here for various repairs from oil changes to having them re-do all the wiring that was ripped out during a theft attempt. Each time I've been there they always have a car in some stage of restoration and over the years I've seen some very nice cars. It's a family business and the guys know what they're doing and will answer any question you may have. I had a bunch of work done on both my truck and car a couple months ago and as normal they did excellent work. The guy that's been at the front counter all these years is named Harvey and I believe it was the owners grandson who helped me during my last visit. For me this place is also very convenient - it's just off Colfax so if you need public transportation the stop for the #15 is just 2 blocks away A few days after the repairs I get a call from them and I wondered why they'd be calling me. They were calling to ask how the car and truck were running and if I had any problems - now that's customer service! read more

Midtown makes sure to let their clients understand everything that may be going wrong with their car. I moved fairly far from midtown and took my car to another shop recently. They did a terrible job (put me in danger) and then told me there was nothing they could do to fix it. Jeremiah took my car in and fixed everything quickly and even contacted the other shop and made sure everything was settled. He took a huge load of stress off me that he didn't necessarily have to do. This is only one example of him going above and beyond. If you are looking for a mechanic that's trustworthy, pick Midtown! My 'regular' repair shop had been less than stellar the past 2 times that I attempted to get work done. Not returning calls or emails to set an appointment, they quoted me $300 dollars less than my bill came up to be and the attitude was horrible on their side. When my 2nd car got a torn CV boot, I called Midtown since they were close to my house. These guys were amazing. They answered my call right away, made a same day appointment to drop the car off. I dropped the car early and they accommodated me without any issue. They called me that night with a quote that was in line with what I expected. Before lunch the next day, my car was ready. The fellow who cashed me out was so friendly and didn't talk down to me at all. I highly recommend this place based on service, cost of repair, wait time, and communication. read more

We were doing a cross country trip from LA to Tiffin OH to get our son's car to school. They got the car running again and we were able to complete the trip. I've brought my car here for a couple large jobs (brakes and timing belt) and found the prices comparable. Professional service and they always offered me a ride if I needed to leave my car. I trusted them with my car until recently. My AC was blowing hot air and I needed an oil change. They recommended a $571 Tune-Up (not including almost $200 to recharge my Freon and $175 headlight restoration also recommended.) Come to find out, after taking my car elsewhere, it was my a/c compressor not my freon that needed repair. Considering I know nothing about cars, my friend sent the itemized quote to her brother, who loves cars and also happens to be mechanical engineer... below is his response. To say the least, I will not return to this place. "Tell Erica to keep shopping, that place is totally trying to rip her off. Some mark-up on parts is expected, but it's good to do exactly what you did and check the prices v. what you can find yourself. Don't pay double. More concerning though is the labor charge. That's at least 4x what a tune-up should cost. And $45 for "shop supplies"?!? Do they use silk scarves for oil rags? There are several more things wrong with this quote. On a 2004 VW, the ignition curve and idle speed are programmed into the ECM, and there are no adjustments. The car also does not have traditional spark plug wires, but rather it's a coil-on-plug arrangement. Those go bad eventually, but don't need to be replaced as part of a normal tune-up unless there are issues with how the car is running, or a fault code that indicates they need to be replaced. The tune-up should be spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter only, and an hour of labor tops ($80 to $100)." read more

I went in and asked them to do an inspection, told them of three things another shop had discovered. Told them I was not going to fix the car if it cost too much. So they checked it and only one of the three things was bad, the other two were good. Really? OK, fix the one thing, I can afford that. But then there is a little something else, so since I'm into for that I say OK. Then the other two things had been misdiagnosed. Ooops. They needed to be fixed too! Well, I had one fixed, still went over what I could spend and wind up with a car with the ABS light telling me that the sensor is out. Went back, they wouldn't take care of their mistake. Then I realized that the bearing which they said they'd fix originally was still squeaking. I'm not going back. I don't trust them. read more

My impression of him over the phone was very professional however meeting him in person was very disappointing and insincere. I recently brought my car into this shop for an oil change and a basic check-up before I went on a road trip. Jeremiah was super cool when I dropped the car off, told me he would get everything checked out and call me with his recommendations. When he called, I was prepared for a full laundry list of crap that I would have to wade through to find out what I really needed to repair, vs. what I actually needed done.
