Cool deco. Atmosphere didn't match, though. Popped in on a Sunday around midnite after a show at Majestic to finally check out the cool place I've been hearing about. We did 'a spin' to check out the layout of the small space. Saw a menu on a table in the back, so took a seat to peruse before approaching the bar. A girl approached us and asked how many were in our party. We answered just the two of us. She asked if we'd move to seating in a different area. I'm guessing we were accidentally in the "VIP" section. Ok; we're just havin' a look at the menu and we'll move..but she stood there and stared at us. Oh...NOW? Right. So we take 4 steps to a table in the proper area in the near-empty bar. At midnite. On Sunday. We browsed the menu as pop hits from the 90s blared. I didn't see anything that tickled my fancy enough to drop $13 in mild discomfort. There's other places to get a drank, even on a Sunday. I'm aware this was A Spot a while ago. I guess the hip crowd moved on and it's currently in an awkward stage of its lifecycle. As others have said, it appears to currently be Any FunTimes Bar, USA with more interesting decor. I'll try again someday to see if it's moved into a more mature phase for old fuddyduds like me... and to see if the burger's as good as I've heard. read more

Have been here a few times and unfortunately this last visit was a disaster. We were having a great time until my girlfriend tried to take a selfie at the bar. For no reason, the bartender, Justin, abruptly told her to "sit the F... down B....". We were floored by this and just received a second round of drinks when my girlfriend decided to make a statement and looked at Justin and poured her drink out in the drain area at the bar in front of her. Justin then asked us to leave and proceeded to complain to security that the drink had been thrown all over him and claimed he was assaulted. At this point we were shocked and demanded to have security tapes reviewed. After 15 minutes, the security staff came out and fully supported our story and openly stated that Justin lied about what had happened. I fully understand bartenders have to deal with all types of personalities but taking it to a point to lie to police about what happened is never acceptable. Security and police took a completely different stance when they realized he had lied about everything and offered to have management discuss this with us. The shocking end to the evening was when we were asked to not return. Not that needed to be communicated because we clearly decided we were not. I was just shocked that management accepted the fact that a staff member used that language and knowing he blatantly lied but still would not offer a simple apology. What an amazing place for cocktails!! Located inside the Joule Hotel, it was mentioned reservations were recommended although we went shortly after they opened and I noticed a few walk-ins at the bar. Still probably worth making a res online via Opentable. The host stand is directly when you walk in the hotel off to the left...underneath a neon "cocktails" sign. Super cool entrance and we walked down a few flights of steps to the entrance of the bar. The atmosphere was incredible and we were seated in a perfectly situated booth in the corner of the room. Our server, Kelsey, was amazing...she had a great personality and provided excellent service throughout our entire evening. They had a great cocktail menu and selection of other fine spirits. Being a lover of an Old Fashioned I ventured out a little and ordered the Caribbean Old Fashioned which is made with rum instead of whiskey. It was absolutely fantastic!! I absolutely love the vibe of this place. First of all, it is located inside of the Joule. The entrance is just past the door, so you don't have to walk through the lobby. You go down their retro wall papered staircase to a downstairs lounge that looks like it is straight out of the 1930s era. It's intimate, yet plenty of bar seating and a lounge area in the back. The decor is sexy with dim lighting, and great music. The bartenders are outgoing and friendly and were dressed the part. I loved watching them mix different drinks. We were there on a Sunday where there is special pricing around the $8 range on some drinks, however this would be a great spot to go on the weekends as well. Of course street parking is probably easier on a non-weekend evening, but there are garaged througout the area, or you can valet at the hotel entrance. There is a small menu from CBD Provisions next door if you are hungry. This would be a great place to bring friends for a downtown cocktail experience. read more

Stayed at the Joule six years ago but didn't make it to MR. In town this past weekend with husband and had to try. I think our bartender was Haley? She was great. Beyond great. Loved the retro cocktail menu and vibe. After having a yummy drink each, we asked about an unfamiliar bottle on the shelf and she brought it down for us to look at - Last Ward 2009 rum - told us the story behind it, and we shared a shot (husband and I). Another great bar has been added to the Dallas cocktail scene! I came here Saturday night with friends and was immediately impressed by the decor, lighting and ambiance. Basically, it is everything you had hoped for in a downtown Dallas bar but had not received. It is mysterious yet sophisticated with its' midcentury modern design, dark lightening, and art deco styling throughout. Aside from the great atmosphere you will find that the layout is very accommodating with seats situated around the bar and numerous tables throughout (yes you can bring a group!). My friends and I were lucky enough to grab three seats at the bar with drink orders almost immediately taken! I thought for being a rather new cocktail bar that the service was great! Our bartender not only took our orders right away but was quick to offer any suggestions on what to get. Feeling hungry? WOW what a great find in downtown. It's entrance is a bit hard to find being inside the joule down a flight of stairs that are located in the left side of the lobby coming in from main street. The vibe is kind of preprohibition mixed with a bit of hipster flair. Small bar with limited seats but worth the wait. All of there cocktails are just amazing. Each one we tried had so much depth, flavor, and aroma. It was a truly unique experience. We talked with the bar tender and he recommended we try the slow drip coffee concoction with Jameson. It was not on the menu and utterly fantastic. Defiantly worth the$4.50 that it costs. We will defiantly be back. read more

Walking in to this 1920's era always brings a smile to my face! This Jen is located just inside the Joule to the left and down the stairs as you get transported to the 20's! Decor is fab low lighting, plenty of seating for a small place with a lounge couch, piano and staff in period attire! Very friendly and lots of fun! We went on a Sunday so not packed yet still a good lively crowd with a great Sunday specials. Great mix of different kinds of drinks from beer to the ever faithful old fashion. Music was perfect and my favorite as well the hallway to the extremely clean restrooms! With the food coming from CBD Provisions next door you really can't loose! I picked the Midnight Rambler for birthday drinks based on the description and reviews of a speakeasy atmosphere with a more mellow and laidback vibe. Maybe Saturday night wasn't the best night to experience that. We had no trouble pulling up in front of the Joule for free valet parking. Valet guys were super nice and didn't treat my casually dressed group any different than the couples wearing gala attire. Door to the Midnight Rambler was not hard to find - directly to the left as soon as you enter the hotel. We ventured down the stairs and the first thing I heard was MC Hammer. Really loudly. Not really what I was expecting. The bar looked packed and surprisingly, when we asked for a table for 4 at the hostess stand, we were immediately taken to a booth and seated. It took a few minutes for someone to come by with water, and he did not offer to take our order. The bar is decorated in a fun way and interesting to look at. We people watched after looking over the menu - it was definitely a hipster, young dallas nightlife vibe. There also appeared to be a wedding party trickling in with glowlight necklaces and such. Close to 10 minutes after we were seated, a server came by to take our drink orders. It would have been nice to have a drink sooner. I ordered the Rosay Rose, a sparkling cocktail, which was delicious and not weak. The rest of my party ordered beer. The conversation at our table consisted mostly of yelling and "WHAT?" due to the blaring music, so we decided to take our leave after one drink. Came here with some coworkers the other night for a team Happy Hour and it was a really fun night! The place looks pretty swanky and classy (cause it was) with a large selection of drinks. The cocktails are pricey but that's to be expected for a hotel bar in Downtown but the drinks were mixed well (and strong) so if you're ok with spending $12 on a good-sized cocktail, this definitely a hot spot you should visit. Sadly, it took a visit from my wife after work one night to get me into Midnight Rambler. Having used to hustling out of downtown via the DART, we 'rambled' on over to check out what the vibe was all about. An exceptional location located in the basement of the Joule hotel with a fantastic, warm vibe. Went early, so it was sparsely populated with folks spread around different tables, and the bar maybe 50% occupied. When I try out a new bar like this, I usually get an Old Fashioned to benchmark how and what they use to construct. I was not disappointed with the my OF as it was what I was expecting - with some dimension that really made me cock my head at an angle. Bartender was pleased with my reaction. Varied cocktail list - quite diverse and a solid emphasis on some really special rums that I will give a try on my next round. read more

This is a great/upscale bar open up late in the heart of Dallas, TX, 7 days a week, where high quality cocktails can run you about $13 each. I don't recall which one I went with but it was strong, delicious, and well worth it. The staff was very friendly/knowledgable and the vibe was classy so come correct here. I've been here a few times. I'm neither crazy about this place nor against going. The drinks are generally very sweet and I find are overpriced for what they are. The "plating" and decorating of the drinks is pretty but I want something that is tasty to drink that's not pumped with sugar-that is a personal preference, nothing against their menu or mixologists. Service has always been quick and friendly. Charcuterie is good. The garlic sausage on it really very good. The grilled bread is good. This is a really cool cocktail bar in the basement of the Joule Hotel. I am usually weary of hotel restaurants and bars since they're usually pretty mediocre, but the Joule was an exception! We had dinner in the hotel as well and we were impressed with both that, and the Midnight Rambler. The bar itself has a great atmosphere - dark, beautifully decorate in black and gold, with a huge liquor selection and a great cocktail list. I had the orange blossom special, which had gin, cucumber, lemon, orange blossom honey and housemade bitter orange soda. It was super refreshing, delicious and exactly what I wanted. There was also a pretty good happy hour menu with quite a few drinks under $10. I would've tried a classic daiquiri or tequila/lime cocktail if we'd stayed longer, but we just popped in for a pre-dinner drink. I'm not sure how many locals frequent this place since it is in a hotel, but if you're staying nearby it is definitely worth checking. Super cool and classy with great drinks. read more

What a mysterious bar right in the heart of downtown. I had to remind myself I was still in the city of Dallas because I didn't know the city can pull of a cozy little joint, like this. Located underneath The Joule, Midnight Rambler is not your ordinary bar. It's a mix of class, mystery and a "speakeasy" feel. It's one of those bars that is spread via word-of-mouth. You're not going to see its name literally in the outside world - not that I have noticed. If you enter through the main entrance of The Joule, take an immediate left, and follow the dark staircase that leads you to a new, hidden world. I only knew about this place because I had a date, who lived only a block away, take me here. We just came in for drinks. If I were to ever drink, which is rare, I'd drink a Stella Artois. They didn't have it. Upon looking at their menu, they supply a lot of brands not a lot have heard of, but they are surely top notch quality. The bartender suggested I get Mama's Lil Yella Pils, and it was amazing, and had a similar taste to my go-to beer. This is coming from someone who doesn't drink much. The bartenders really knew their stuff and can mix up a kickass beverage. They were very entertaining to watch and talk to. These guys are not your ordinary bartenders. As far as dress code goes, it may be nice to dress it up a little to blend in with the scene. Although I've spotted a few people dressed very casually, which is totally okay, I personally feel the need to dress up because it just feels right for the atmosphere. read more

So cool! We headed to Midnight Rambler following a Chris D'Elia stand up show at the Majestic, and headed downstairs where a glorious bar awaited. Reminiscent of a prohibition era bar, the Midnight Rambler is not a very large location but certainly fills you with a feeling of undeniable coolness. Get on the list for a table, trust me...while standing at the bar and watching the mixologists (can't really call them bartenders) swirl, slap and juggle cocktails is entertaining in and of itself, you will be waiting a long time for a drink. The servers are much faster, although I suppose you do miss out on some of the flash that is a crucial part of the Midnight Rambler. Be sure to try some of the more interesting cocktails, and be prepared to be pleasantly surprised that the mixture of ingredients work excellently together. Definitely check this place out, and dress well. We were a little casually dressed and I felt that I could've looked better. A great bar, and one I will gladly be back to. read more

I went to the Sandoitchi pop-up at Midnight Rambler, and it was a blast! The service was personal and everyone was so friendly from the minute we showed up. The space and music were great, and the servers were attentive and funny. I had the 5 course pre-fixe meal with cocktail pairings and each course and cocktail was so flavorful, inventive, and surprising. Greeted by a dj spinning vinyl, you know instantly that THIS is where the cool kids are tonight. Zach the bartender is easy on the eyes, a pleasure to talk to and quick with the drinks. Get out of your box and try a pho shot. Or drink the "hogo-a -go-go" punch allllll night - a refreshing rum based drink with hints of nutmeg, hibiscus and falernum. Maybe something sparkly? Try a Sonic Boom with bee pollen, brandy and sparkling wine. You are guaranteed a creative and unique cocktail as Midnight Rambler delights in being artisanal and of the times. They also do classics well, like an old fashioned or daiquiri. My partner appreciates their beer selection and he's a picky son-of-a-gun. After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to stopping by for a drink... I was a little disappointed. The cocktail menu seemed lacking and they were "out" of the first drink I ordered. I've been to other speakeasy type cocktails bars with pretty extensive menus of different concoctions. The waitress was courteous and knowledgeable but I probably would've had a different experience had I sat at the bar. I enjoyed the music that was playing, however, it was difficult to hear considering that many of the patrons were not "speaking easy". After a few rounds of drinks, my bf ended up ordering a mojito since most of their original concoctions did not seem that appealing. The Midnight Rambler is the exception to the mediocre hotel bar standard. Great for a date night as the setting is dimly lit, cozy, and has a cool retro lounge vibe. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate after my fashion show and had a great time! There was a dance contest happening so the place was packed but still manageable and a lot of fun. We ordered two gin cocktails - a 1000W Thumper and Gin Martini. Although the service was pretty slow (granted the bar was very crowded) the drinks were definitely worth the wait! Even though I've lived in Dallas for 2 years, I'm still shocked that for about $10 you can get expertly crafted, delicious cocktails. We'll definitely be back. read more
