I brought my car to this Midas for oil changes. Later, I found out the oil drain pan had an oversized drain plug installed and needed repair. Midas was the only shop that serviced the drain plug during that time, and they were the ones who found the issue. Despite that, I was quoted more than $800 to pay for the repair myself. I am now having my dealership inspect and repair it, and I have to pursue reimbursement through the appropriate consumer complaint process. I came in ready to be a loyal customer. They had been told the owner died & his family was moving very slowly; as an unmarried domestic partner there wasn't much I could do until I knew where I stood with them. By the time I collected the vehicle the contents had been looted: a portable jump starter, a pair of terra-cotta planters, a set of bungee cords and a large Trader Joe's tote full of car care supplies and terry towels were taken. When you take your car to Midas for any kind of repair, they ALWAYS call you back with a laundry list of repairs they recommend being completed. In the end you make the necessary repairs, you have a bad feeling about the repairs you did not make, and their charges are extremely expensive, Why go to a auto repair shop that makes you feel worse than when you came in and you are 100's or 1000's lighter in the wallet? I'll explain below, but the TL;DR is they tried to charge me $2K for service that my car didn't even need and straight up lied about the status of my brake pads and rotors. In 2024 I noticed my brakes were grinding, so I took my car to a Midas in Burlington MA and they said I had to get my whole brakes, calipers, and rotor system replaced. It had only been 20,000 miles since the last time I replaced the pads, but I do live in the city so maybe that was reasonable. They replaced them, but they put in a faulty rebuilt caliper and my brake light came on. I live in Malden so I took my car to the one in Malden since I didn't trust driving it back to Burlington. They noticed the faulty caliper and said my car wasn't drivable so they would replace it for free. The Subaru specialist tech said that we had "Never seen a faulty caliper before in all his years." They "replaced" it and sent me on my merry way. A couple of days pass, my brake light comes on again. I take it back to Malden Midas. They check it out and tell me that the one they put in was faulty too. Sure, the thing the "Subaru specialist" said he has never seen in his life happened twice in a row to my car... I don't believe for a second that they actually replaced it. But they took it in again and fixed it for free and all was good. A year later, my car has put on an extra 16,000 miles and I notice my brakes starting to grind a little, so being vigilant and not wanting to have to replace the whole system again, I take my car back to Malden Midas for the "free brake pads for life" deal. I thought it would be a quick, easy, and free, fix. I explained why I thought they needed to be replaced and then I went to work. I got the inspection overview at work that said my brake pads were worn to 5mm in the front and 3mm in the back and both the pads and my rotors needed to be replaced. This was in addition to a drive belt that was torn/fraying, an unnecessary brake fluid exchange, and some other cosmetic issues that all totaled to over $2K. This panicked me a little and I thought, ok my dad is a mechanic as a hobby, I will just take my car to him to replace the pads and rotors and then I'll probably sell my car since if it needs $2K worth of work every year it's just not worth it when I live in the city. So I buy new pads and rotors at AutoZone, and take them up to my dad's. We take the tires off and lo and behold the rotors are exactly as thick as the new ones, and the front brake pads were only worn down by two millimeters compared to the new ones!!! They were nowhere near 5mm like the inspection said. And the driving belt wasn't torn or frayed whatsoever. They just straight up lied to me, probably because they thought I was a young girl who is dumb about cars, to try to syphon money out of me for no reason. I will never go back there. read more

I always come here for a second opinion whenever the dealership tries to sell me some overpriced service. The brake warranty is great -- lifetime on pads and two years on rotors -- and they have never failed to honor it. Exhaust repair and replacement of muffler on a 2017 Ford explore. Expecting these professionals to know their job and to ensure replacement parts are identical to original, but that wasn't the case. The tale pipe on the replacement muffler doesn't (doesn't even come close) match original factory tale pipe, and it's obvious. If both mufflers had been replaced then I wouldn't be complaining about it, but they weren't. Shame on them for not making sure part matched, making me aware of the variation, and me for not checking until a week later. My 2nd complaint is their the need to perform services without my permission, and why are you doing factory scheduled maintenance when I never asked for it? They Charged me $131.98 in parts and another $141.00 in labor for "Factory Sched. Maint.". which I never asked to have done. My 3rd complaint is the cost to have (1) tire pressure sensor replaced. Sensor cost $68.00 (expensive) and they charge $104.66 in labor and additional $87.22 for a TPMS Diag costing me @60.87 just to place (1) sensor for a total of $260.87 to replace on sensor, now that's s a rip-off. They are no better than "Sullivan Tire", but that's story another time. . These guys are worst than a Doctors visit. They tack on other labor costs for each type of service you have done (labor cost for exhaust and if you have brake work on same day, a difference labor and so on). It cost me more than $1,100.00 for less than 8 hrs ($137.50 per hour) of work. Stay away for from MIDAS and SULLIVAN TIRE. Avoid them and go a local repair shop. You'll get better service! read more

My car needed a 2 axle wheel balance - service tech broke 10 lug nuts claiming that they were put on too tightly. I was responsible for payment which was over $90.00 for something that was not wrong originally when I brought it in. Previously serviced by multiple technicians who replaced new tires without the need to break lug nuts so I was not satisfied. Service, overall nice, but communication was not great. Waited all day for the car to be fixed and had to call to check in on it. I understand they were busy, but expected a bit more for an easy job. They provided a quote for extra services which was nice, but was not the correct diagnostic of another problem so went to different mechanic for repairs. read more

Rip off. They tried to tell me my car doesn't take regular oil (which it does) to justify charging me $60 for an oil change. When I said I was going to go elsewhere because it does take regular oil, suddenly the price went down to $35. Right. Then they did an inspection and failed me on a safety check for "rust on the side of the car" and a "reflector that didn't work." I was quoted $1100 to fix it or have the inspection rejected. There is a small spot of rust on the side panel of the car. It's cosmetic, not a safety issue warranting a red R. I took it to another inspection station who said right off the bat the car was fine and they would have never failed it for a cosmetic issue and they didn't know what Midas was talking about because all the reflectors and lights were working properly. Always look up coupons for this place as I've pretty much always gotten a discount here. If you can't find a coupon, have them look them up for you if there are any. They are friendly and I trust them(which is rare for me when it comes ttar mechanics). They do it all here. Currently waiting for my inspection to finish. Lobby is really comfy and has a TV. Had a really great experience here recently. I took my car in because I thought that I needed brake work done. After taking my car for a test drive and putting it up on a lift, the technician called me in to explain what the actual issue was, which wasn't my brakes like I thought. The technician was honest and didn't perform any unnecessary work that I was fully prepared to pay for, if recommended. Dave, the manager here, is a good dude. I expected to pay for them taking a look at my car but he let me go with no-charge. I value and the honesty and friendly service that I experienced at this location, so I'll definitely be back. I have notice every time I come here and bring my car here something goes wrong with another part of my car, like right after a few months, every time I bring my car here they charge me an arm an a leg, and after everything they do the job is half ass and the Midas touch is more of a retard trying to touch me, Midas over charge for a simple stater for a Honda, they was asking me for $700 I was like that doesn't sound right? I asked around in various sources prices for part for the model of my car and call about 15-20 other car shop non which charge me more than $40-$60 for labor. My starter is around $100 plus $50 for labor, Should come out $150-$170 (with tip)with guarantee at a local repair shop. Overall they have stolen tons of $$ For all those times I have brought my car to this place, I might have to talk to my neighbor who is a private investigator for the Malden police. read more

Went to this place three times for the oil change and tire rotation for 19.99. First time they said tires didn't need rotation. Second and third time they claimed they did rotate tires but I knew which rims had marks on them and knew they were not rotated. Finally, the last time I went I got suspicious and checked the dip stick as soon as I got home and noticed the oil was dark brown and not the clear light brown that comes with new oil and wasn't even full. They didn't change the oil. I know this is unusual as I used to do this line of work when I was young. They may have just changed the filter and topped it off at best. I like going to this shop b/c it's super convenient. I get my oil changed here and so does my roommate. We've never have had any issue w/ the work performed on our cars but every time I've ever scheduled an online appointment to be called back to confirm, I've never gotten a call back... You have to get someone on the phone.... Just yesterday I stopped by the shop, after work, to schedule an appointment but they had already closed up shop and locked the door. I was there at 6:44 PM and they "close" at 7 PM so that was frustrating... They are trying to sell you as much as they can - like a simple 40 dollars turning to a 200 dollars job. However, the next day I could hear a repetitive noise coming from the front that's faster/louder as I accelerated. I took the car back and the guy said it was some heat shield or something on the undercarriage that was loose. Supposedly they fixed it. The noise NEVER went away. Not until I had my tires rotated again. Miraculously, the noise stopped. Leads me to believe that they'd simply not put the tires on correctly and had no clue how to fix their error. I made an appointment to have an oil change done this afternoon on Tuesday. I walk in right on time today. There's one person in the waiting room, plenty of staff in the garage. The guy at the desk takes down my info, asks for the keys, says no problem we'll do a free tire rotation too, it'll be done in an hour. I said great, thanks! I come back over an hour later and find my car right where I'd parked it. I go to the desk and the guys says "Looks like they haven't moved your car. They brought in at least two others after your drop off." He checks with them, comes back and says "Yeah, even though you had an appointment, they skipped over yours. Sorry." I asked for the keys and left. If you can't honor the appointment I made to do a routine service like this, you are not getting my business. Unbelievable. read more

I just bought my first car a few months ago, and it was time to get an oil change. Not knowing anything about the local mechanics and not wanting to get gouged for sketchy work, I took the advice of a few people on yelp and checked this place out. As it turns out, this Midas gave me a great experience. The guy manning the front desk was really nice, and we got into a conversation about NASCAR and his dreams of working on those big engines and how he ended up at Midas. In any case, they went to work right away on my car, checked the consumables for free and rotated my tires too. I don't have any other mechanic experiences to go from, but it's safe to say I'll definitely be going back. The shop is open till 8 on most days, and is very close to the Malden Center T stop if you need to drop off your car and pick it up later. read more

I would give this location 5 stars but it took them a LONG time to even look at my car, and by the time they figured out what was wrong it was too late to fix it and I had to wait until noon the next day to pick up my car. Luckily I live within walking distance of Oak Grove so that's not a big deal. I brought my car in to have my muffler looked at--there was clearly something wrong, you just had to turn on the car to hear a loud noise. They told me that eventually I'd need to replace the entire muffler, which would be pretty pricey, but they could weld the pipes together for now, which would hold it up for about a year. I was impressed they gave me the option for doing this rather than just saying I needed a $1,000 repair, and give me the chance to put money aside for a few months so I can replace everything eventually. read more
