I left my car for oil leak repair. I got my car back. It got overheated after 10 minutes drive. Somehow I got my car back without antifreeze. It never overheated before so I had enough antifreeze when I left my car. They said that it's a coincidence. Then, they put antifreeze and after that my heater did not work. They said that I can leave my car for another inspection and pay for it. I was freezing in my car for a day. Do not recommend this service. read more

4. DON'T TRUST THE MIDAS TOUCH!!! So, after being contacted by someone Identifying themselves as being the "Owner" asking me to email them the details, I did. That went nowhere! I guess they thought I would just go away...no such luck. MIDAS on 1501 S. Park St. Madison, Wi. 53715 IS THE WORST! They will rip you off. I put my 2004 X5 in for oil pan leak repairs and it came out leaking worse than it went in, from the differential that wasn't leaking when I gave it to them. To get to my oil pan you have to remove the drive axles which they did and repaired the gasket but, in the process, they damaged the right-side axle seal. Which created a larger leak than when I took it in. I took it back and they charged me $60 for a new diagnostic on the work they had done, then tried to charge me $1,000 to repair the damage they did but denied doing. This is the worse repair shop experience I've ever had. DON'T GO THERE! They will try to rip you off. read more

These guys were fast and efficient, and I didn't have to deal with my own brakes in my driveway while it was snowing. Do I feel a bit raw about paying $80 for a $15 set of pads? Well, yes, but I'm the lazy *** who didn't want to deal with his brakes in the snow in the driveway. $230 later and the car works right and I'm back to speeding to work on the beltline. Thanks! This shop is a scam and a rip off. I contacted Midas on or about 6/23/2024 to get a price quote for front and rear shocks for my 1999 Ford E150 van and was quoted a price of $1,200.00. Yep. You read it right... $1,200.00 to replace shocks on a 99 Ford Econoline van. Wow! Here's the deal. I'm a mechanic and I've replaced shocks on numerous vehicles. The Econoline is one of the easiest to replace. Just one upper bolt and one lower bolt on each shock... simple! Now, here's the break down: All four shocks less than $300.00. Installation for a do it yourself guy. 2 hours total. That's a savings of $900.00 plus tax. Wow! However, my hands are injured so I'm not able to do it right now. However, I contacted Blain's Farm and Fleet and they will do the job for $455.17, including parts, labor and tax. That's still a savings of $744.83 not including tax. So, actually about $750.00. The guys at the Madison, Wisconsin Park Street Midas are out of their freaking minds. Imagine that... $1,200.00 to replace socks... the easiest repair job in the world. I will never do business with this company and you should consider calling around before forking over your hard earned money to these crooks. They are ripping you off. I needed a new muffler but the dealer would only replace the entire exhaust assembly. Midas on Park Street in Madison said I only needed to replace the muffler and gave me an initial quote that was about 1/3 the dealer's quote. Brian, the store manager, sourced some cheaper parts, further reducing the price by about $100. That's service! read more

JUST WOW! We had a vehicle towed to Midas via AAA, having no experience previously we went with the recommendation of the tow truck driver. During the week of Christmas the team at Midas went above and beyond to fix our old van, even sourcing some scrap parts. Not sure how they were able to do this all so close to a holiday but they did and their work was excellent! Brian was great to work with and we are brining in another vehicle today! Recently, I moved from the southwest to Madison, and having pretty much only used family friends for my car services for the past 4 years, I was cautious on trusting someone new to not gouge prices and add things that were unnecessary. I went in for an oil change and coolant flush on a neighbors recommendation before winter and right away was met with some great customer service from everyone in the building. I knew I needed new tires when I went in, so when they recommended that I was not surprised. I agreed and what I was surprised by was the final bill that I got! To say it was reasonable is an understatement - they even replaced a broken clamp on one of my hoses and let me borrow a loaner car overnight - for free! He educated me on a few other things that I tend to neglect, but did not push any product or service and was very polite. The cherry on top was that after I got home and looked over the receipt, I noticed that they put a coupon on without even mentioning it! Overall, I felt everyone in that building was very helpful and explained each process thoroughly so I knew what was happening. I felt like they were very honest and forthcoming with what needed to be done and what could wait a little bit. Even though this place is corporate, the gentleman named Jonathon helping me made me feel like I was at a family owned mechanic and that's something you can't teach! I enjoyed the genuine conversation I could have with everyone in the building and this experience pretty much exemplifies the kind of professionalism and warmth that I was searching for. My friend and I had stopped at a gas station to get air and the pressure gage seemed to be way off. We decided to just cut our losses and go to Midas. Felt a little embarrassed to be taking care of air, but they did not give any indication that this was out of the ordinary. They had us immediately pull up and proceeded to check and fill each one of the tires. My friend didn't have the air caps, but he explained the importance and where to read the actual tire pressure you should fill to instead of the one on the tire (turns out it's in the door). He gave us new tire caps completely free of charge and sent us on our way. Incredibly nice people. read more

The folks at this Midas, in particular Scott, are a joke. They quoted me $1,600 to for what should be around $400 or so. Quoted 8 hours of later for what should be a 2 hour job. When I confronted him, he then said it was 4 hours of labor (I guess he realized he was caught). He was also going to try to charge me for an oil change, even though I just had one 2 weeks ago. There was also a random charge of $9 for "shop supplies" on my diagnostic service charge. Naturally that charge came without explanation. All in all, STAY AWAY and take your car ANYWHERE else. read more

I have heard good things about this shop. I had a bad experience at the east side Midas many years ago when the repairman tried to sell me something I did not need. That was over 20 years ago so I decided to give them another try. See how long it takes for a bad experience to wear off! Was it really worth the hard sell to have to wait this long for me to come back? But they did a good job for me. No hard sell, in fact just the opposite. When they could have they were polite and helpful. The man at the front desk was excellent. He is an example of the sort of professional that I want to help me for maintenance work. They did take longer than they said it would. It ended up taking twice as long as they first quoted me. So I was disappointed in that. Still the time was not terrible for what I had done. I went into a Midas store this morning because I had a broken door handle on my car and bad brakes. When I asked about how much it would cost to replace the door handle, I was told something around $350 bucks--a seemingly absurd amount for a plastic handle. I told them that I would not pay that much to get it replaced, so the person in the store started trying to barter with me. It was still much more expensive than I anticipated, so I told them to forget about my broken door handle and just fix my brakes. They called a bit later to give me an estimate. The guy told me to fix up the brakes, it would cost about $600 and he'd throw in the door handle for me because he felt bad and "can't have me just climbing in the passenger door". He also said I had essentially no front brakes, so getting them fixed up was urgent. With that said, I thought that I'd have to pay the $600 to fix up my brakes, and they were just throwing in the door handle to try to sweeten the deal. When I arrived to pick up my car, the guy working the desk slid my receipt in an envelope and promptly answered a phone call so that I could not talk to him. For this reason, I didn't look at my receipt until I got home. When I did, I discovered to my horror that they charged me $199.60 to replace my door handle. I never consented to pay a penny to have them touch that handle. I agreed to the estimate solely because I thought that amount was what was needed to fix my brakes, and those brakes were desperately needed. If I had been told that they were charging my $199.60 for a plastic door handle, I NEVER would have agreed to that. I feel like I was robbed. This was completely unprofessional and dishonest conduct. TLDR: Employee was unprofessional, dishonest. I feel like they robbed me. read more

I took my ageing Ford Taurus for a rattling noise to this Midas and had an excellent experience here. Dave was really, really nice. I really like how they don't charge you any money until they know what's wrong. I decided to get an oil change while I was there, and it was such a relief not to get the pressure-filled sales pitch that I've experienced at places like Jiffy Lube. I am generally a bit of a wimp and make my fiance do car stuff as I'm afraid men will try to rip me off, but I would feel totally comfortable going to this Midas by myself. read more

I had an sudden breakdown and was able to take my car in immediately for them to look at. Jonathan was friendly, nice and honest! They did an amazing job fixing everything that was wrong and expedited a part overnight to speed up the process. Hopefully my headache can save another poor soul the hassle, and the money. My fiance's 2010 Nissan Murano broke down in the middle of John Nolan on a Friday afternoon. We suspected the alternator and had AAA tow it to this Midas location, as it was the closest partner option with our coverage. Midas confirmed the alternator needing to be replaced Saturday morning. Jonathan shared with me the cost estimate for repair: $940. My father in law informed me an alternator repair wouldn't be that expensive so you could imagine my shock. But we only have one car between us both and need it for work, so the repair had to be done. I gave the okay to Jonathan for the repair and hung up. I immediately called my father in law, then two other auto repair shops and was reassured each time that $900 was way too much for this repair. The most expensive quote I could find was for $700. I called Jonathan back and said thanks but no thanks, I found the repair cheaper elsewhere and made plans to tow the car from his garage on Monday. I received a call back from Jonathan no more than 20 minutes later. He had done some "price matching" and could offer me the repair at $650 instead of his original $940 quote. When I asked why the reduction, he said he found a cheaper part with a shorter warranty but it would still do the trick. I appreciated his honesty and agreed to his garage doing the repair. I even agreed to 2 new tires for the front because they needed to be replaced and Jonathan had been a pretty straight forward guy to work with so far. The main issue (because initially quoting me at $300 more than the actual price isn't my main issue, ha!) came when we paid. I asked if our AAA 10% discount had been applied to our over $900 bill with tires now. Caleb informed me that the discount probably wasn't applied because Jonathan did so much "price matching" to get me a competitive price. I told Caleb to chat it over with Jonathan because calling overcharging (or gouging, whatever you want to call it) "price matching" is a joke. Caleb said Jonathan would call and follow up. Four days later we had heard nothing and tried to reach Jonathan 3 separate times but he had "alot of meetings that day". After threatening to contact corporate, I got a call from Jonathan. He said no discount would be given because he price matched so low. He said his manager supported his decision and there was no wiggle room. I asked for his managers contact info and after following up I was basically told the following: yeah I don't know why you were priced so much to begin with. My research has the average price at $700 tops. We will be refunding you the 10% on the parts of the alternator, so $35 total. After bringing to his attention the hoops I had to jump through to get the money rightfully mine back, he extended the 10% to the tires as well. Thank you Midas for your dedication to customer service and doing the right thing. You will never get my business again, not even if all four wheels of my car fall off in front of your building and no other repair shop is ever open again. I would rather walk and take the bus than be lied to and robbed from a corporate business. read more

Not honest at all. My car was leaking oil for several days, and I brought it in to Midas to get an estimate. They quoted me about $750, telling me the problem was that oil was leaking out of the car in 4 different places. (Several gaskets, I don't know the exact names). I told them not to work on it yet, and they questioned me like it was a no-brainer. I took it in to a local shop for a different estimate, and they called me later that same day. They said the problem was "obviously" a rusted oil filter, and nothing else. The final price was $18, and they must have been right. Since then there has been no oil leaking out of my car. read more

I went to this Midas location once for a simple oil change, and I would discourage anyone I know from going here. The service was slow, but above all they botched a simple tire rotation by not properly re-fastening the bolts, and let me pull out of their parking lot in a dangerous vehicle. The experience started out shaky when I emailed to book an appointment for the oil change. I'm relatively new in Madison and this place was nearby, so I thought this was a good chance to get to know them. If it had been a better experience I would have probably made them my go-to shop. In the emails I mentioned I had a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation, and when I got no reply I finally called to make the appointment. When I got there the employee I talked to (I think it was the manager) seemed annoyed by the coupon and only accepted it after muttering about how he wishes the corporate office would stop issuing coupons like that. I understand if he doesn't like the company's policy, but that's something to discuss with the office, not something that should be taken out on a customer. His location was one of the three Midases listed on the coupon, so there shouldn't be any question about accepting it. After that things seemed to go normally, even though the service was quite slow (took about an hour and a half, much longer than I expected). The worst came when I pulled out of the parking lot after the service was finished. When I pulled onto the road my front end started making a rattling noise, so I pulled over and looked at it. They had failed to fully tighten the bolts on the two front tires after the tire rotation! They were lose enough that I could turn them easily with my fingers. When I pulled around the block and explained what happened, the employee acted like he didn't believe me, and after going out to check, he muttered under his breath that he'll get someone to tighten them fully. There was no apology or acknowledgement that they had done something wrong, and I waited about 10 more minutes before someone came out to finish tightening them. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, because from chatting with some of the people in the waiting room this place seems to have a handful of loyal customers. The poor/slow service is forgivable and could be chalked up to a bad day, but failing to check the bolts after a tire rotation seems like just plain carelessness, and it leaves the car in a dangerous condition. I can't trust this location, and I would warn anyone I know against going there. read more

I have had various vehicles in for service and have never had any problems that haven't be resolved to my satisfaction. Second visit was a disaster. I had called on a Thursday for a Monday appointment. My needs were simple. I wanted a oil change an tire rotation. The only reason I chose Midas was because they can rotate your tires in a cris-cross pattern and the rapid oil changes places cant. I specifically asked the manager, Jonathan, if I could get in and out quickly and he said it would be no problem. Come Monday I bring my car in at the appointed time and they don't pull it into the garage for 15 minutes. They start to work on it in another 15 minutes and over time inform me that I need a wiper blade and a new air filter. I wait and wait and my car is just sitting there. I ask the manager why so long and they inform me that they are waiting on the air filter and it may take another hour. WTF 2 1/2 hours for an air filter? I asked the manager if he remembers my call and specific request and he just gives me a dull stare. I ask for an apology and he says ' stuff happens , ya know' Never again....... read more

My conversion van died at the entrance to the parking ramp when I was in Madison Friday night for the state boys basketball tournament. The entire electrical system shut down. My van was towed to Midas. The techs told me it was the alternator & they would have it fixed by 1pm on Sat. so I wouldn't miss the championship game and see our team take the gold ball home! I had no idea how I would get to my hotel after the Friday night game, but luckily, they gave me a loaner car for free! On Sat. I went to pick up my van & discovered there was something else wrong - the speed sensor was shot as well. At first they told me they couldn't get the part until Monday, but when I told them I had to get back for church in the morning, the Manager, John, took the time to call around & found the part 30 miles away. I went to pick it up in the loaner car and the Asst. Manager, Trevor, stayed after closing time to put the part in my van after I got back. They were SO nice and helpful and didn't charge me for half the labor. I was worried about being taken advantage of being out of town by myself, but they were totally upfront about everything, sincerely concerned about my situation and going the extra mile to get me back on the road. If ever I am in Madison and have a car problem again, I would go back there again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend this shop to anyone read more

I went to shop to get my brakes replaced and have them examine why my car rumbles when I turn on air conditioner. I dropped it off monday morning. They called me later that evening and told me it would cost around $350 for brake repair and around $70 for an inspection of the car to find out why it rumbles when I turn the AC on. I agreed and they told me they would call me the next morning. I didn't get a call the next morning. I actually had to call them myself around 5 pm that day to get an update on my car. They told me that the brakes were repaired and that my sensors on my car were broke, which makes it idle when it is not supposed to idle (this is the reason they gave me why it rumbles). They told me, however, the car is drivable if I wanted to pick it up from the lot that day. If I wanted to look into getting sensors replaced, he said he could give me an estimate the following morning. I said I'll wait on the sensor price estimate. The next morning, I was called and told that the anxle on my car broke while at the autoshop. They told me THEN that was the cause of the rumble and the car is now not drivable. I was confused because my car was drivable prior to coming there and they told me the day before that it was the sensors were the problem. Why did they tell me the evening before the car was drivable yet the next morning it wasn't? Why did they do a inspection and didn't see that the axle was broken the day before? Why did they tell me it was the sensors that were broken and now all of a sudden it's the axle? Too many questions and not enough clear answers for me. I didn't feel comfortable with them handling my car any longer. I had my car moved to a different repair shop to be repaired. The tow truck driver that moved my car told me this wasn't the first time he had to tow someone from there because their car came out worse than when the driver went there to get it repaired for.
