I am not one to write reviews or even speak up most of the time but I recently asked Midas in Brookline to check my diagnostics since I worked nearby and my engine light had come on. I did NOT give them any permission to perform any work on my vehicle. When I went in to get my keys they said it wasn't ready and I was confused. Long story short they replaced a sensor without notifying me of price or asking. I also didn't know I would be charged for the diagnostic test or I wouldn't have brought it to them in the first place (My mistake not knowing diagnostic price but shouldn't he have let me know?) I have my own mechanic that I trust that does all of my work so I was only going to see what was wrong and if it was ok to drive. Next they tell me my rear breaks need replacing and it shouldn't be driven...at this point I just wanted my car back so I could go home and he said they are removing the sensor and putting my old one back in??? He offered me %20 off and a free oil change but I felt so taken advantage of that I wanted to cry so I will not be back. Just be aware that they might try to do things without permission. read more

I took my car there for a leak. And a loud noise. The guy who was there supposedly fixed it, but the next day it was still leaking. I paid over $500. The next day I called them and brought the car back in, they claimed it was misdiagnosed and they will fix it, no charge, but they still did a half ass job. They changed the water pump but never replaced the timing belt. And the loud noise is still there. They over charge and don't do their job properly. I'm never going back to Midas again. read more

The staff are friendly and good at explaining things without talking down to you. Prices are standard, and on a couple of occasions they've done minor work for free. I didn't even use their services this past visit, but I have to write a review for this location, because the guy who works there (I think also in the photos) is so wonderful. I pulled into the Brookline Midas to see if they do inspections. They don't, but the man who works there ever so politely directed me to a gas station nearby that could do it for me. The gentleman was so respectful, generous and polite in ensuring I went to the right place to get the service my car required, I knew I would have to return to this Midas to get whatever car services I'd need in the future. My car was making a high pitched squeaking sound. I didn't think it could be my breaks since I had the dealership where I leased my vehicle install breaks just last November. My friend recommended I check out Midas in Brookline since she recently had a good experience and felt she got a fair deal. Keith and Harry both diagnosed the problem immediately and without even lifting my car into a bay, they could see both front and back breaks were in need of replacing. I couldn't believe it!! I had spent over $700 last year just on my back breaks. They took my car in and told me to come back in a few hours. They were nice enough to show me how the last breaks were installed incorrectly and suggested I go back to my dealership, with the Midas diagnosis and invoice, to try and get some money back. The pricing was so fair and the customer service was prompt, professional and friendly. I would not hesitate to bring my car back here in the future. read more

I just moved to the area and was looking for a place to get my oil changed. I've had luck at other Midas places, so I figured I'd try this one. It was a so-so experience, and I might consider going back. Location: Difficult to get to - it's on a divided highway and coming from the city I had to pass it and turn around after 1/2 mile. Service: The man at the desk told me it was his second day on the job, which was evident because of the difficulty he had using the computer. It took a very long time for him to pull up my appointment and enter my info, which was frustrating. The oil change itself took about 35 minutes, which wasn't too bad. The waiting area was fairly clean and spacious. After the oil change and complimentary service check, though, he took little to no time to explain the results of the check. There turned out to be several areas of concern for my car, but unlike other experiences I've had at other Midas's, he did not take the time to explain these areas of concern. (My car has 200,000+ miles on it, and I'm rather car-illiterate, so I really appreciate it when someone will explain to me exactly what I need to know about what is going on with the car) Price: Average price for an oil change - I think I paid $22 or so. On the whole: Fine, just not what I expected/hopes for from a Midas. read more

A local inspection station told me I had a bit of a loose front suspension on my passengers side. So I went to Midas the next day, since they're open after work hours (it is nice that they are open until 6:30pm). Expecting a simple fix for my front suspension, I would soon receive a laundry list of things that "absolutely" needed to be done or else I would fail inspection. The bill? $2,5000 dollars. I ended up taking it to a local shop. They fixed the front suspension issue (new tie rod) and gave me another inspection. And guess what? I passed. How much did I have to pay? $175. So that's a $175 (local shop) to pass inspection versus $2,500 (Midas), who told me that I NEEDED to have every single one of their repairs done. You don't need to be a math expert to see that they are completely screwing you over. I also didn't appreciate the comment the mechanic made to me when I told them I needed to think about it. "Lemme guess," he says "You need to clear with the wife right? Right?" That's right folks, totally would've gone with this horrible deal but the damn WOMAN was getting in the way of our transaction. Why else would I be hesitant? The fact that they would use these scare tactics when tears are coming down my face, trying to get me to sign up for a credit card with 20% APR to pay for HALF of the cost, and even trying to say "well paying $2,500 to fix an old car is better than using it for a new one!", just shows you how callous, and horrible, and dishonest these people are. I'm glad I was able to compose myself and instead of completely ruining my financial situation, I got a second opinion. And saved me $2,325 and a brand new, blue inspection sticker. These people are rude, ape-like, crooks that are trying to get a few extra pennies while they slowly wait for death. And they don't deserve your money. read more

I called Midas this week after I had to have road-side-assistance jump my car. I was away for Christmas and let the car sit for 12 days, so I wasn't sure if it was the battery or just the cold temps and extended time it sat without being started. Even though I called just 30 minutes before they were closing, Joe insisted I come by to at least do a free battery check. Sure enough it was a bummed battery (only providing 193 CCA when it should have been 550 CCA). In the end I was very pleased with my experience at Midas, and happy to report I haven't had any issues starting my car since replacing the battery. Harry is awesome!! Super friendly and personable. My only mistake is not coming here sooner. I dropped in a little before 3pm on a Saturday during LDW and explained my brakes needed to be checked out. They did an inspection and got back to me to confirm both front and back brakes need to be replaced. The shop closes at 6pm but they were able to service the car! If I had gone to a dealership they would've taken over three hours to do this and charge so much. read more

Originally I was very impressed with this location only due to the reviews and the way I heard the service manager to speak with customers on the phone. But after having my tires rotated and having an issue with the rotation I was given misinformation and had to end up taking my car to the dealership to get it rectified. This review is long overdue. I needed to figure out what was wrong with my Mazda and why my suspension was making a terrible noise. When I brought my car in, I was given a competitive estimate and detailed report of the problem. I scheduled my appointment for the next morning and within a day I had suspension tightened and my front wheel bearing replaced which unbeknownst to me was a much more serious issue than the noise from my suspension. Went to this place as indicated by an acquainted of mine. Unfortunatelly my expectations were deeply frustrated. I had a problem on my steering wheel. Before doing anything, I had to sign a paper saying that I agree to pay $39 for an inspection. After arguing, I signed in the expectation that my problem was going to be solved. After 30 minutes, they came with the result. "You better change your car because fixing the problem will cost you more than the car value". Then they came with the estimated costs to change everything. This is ridiculous..... Ok, the car is old, but please..... be professional. After receiving the diagnostic, I had to pay $39 dollars after no service done. I was almost robbed. Will never come back and advise everyone to avoid this place. Recently had my front strut assembly installed and had a transmission fluid leak that was resolved. These guys are honest and they know what they are doing. If you are not happy, they are not happy. you might walk in feeling stressed because of your car, but you will leave with a big ol' smile on your face knowing that Harry is there to take care of business. Service wasn't super fast, all told probably 45 minutes. They have a large waiting room so it wasn't too bad of a wait. Staff was very cordial and friendly. After coming in for an oil change in to look at a problem with our air conditioner, we were given a wildly high cost estimate, at which point we found another mechanic to go to. Upon picking our car up, we were billed very high for cost of labor (for them to confirm what we told then was wrong with the car) and then were presented with two different invoices that didn't match up, and were charged an inexplicable extra $30, which was blamed on the computer. I have visited this location several times now for my car repairs. I continue to be impressed by harry and his staff. I have heard the way he has spoken to other customers, as well as his staff and he is nothing short of professional and honest. This location doesn't come off as just another shop out to take your money. I know this because I sat in the waiting room listening to how harry approaches every customer and car, makes phone calls for better parts pricing, and ask his technicians in detail about the cars they are working on. This shop may not be the cheapest, but it's definitely not over priced and well worth it to not pay for things you don't need. They will honestly tell you when you don't need something or if it can wait until later. In the last year, I have saved hundreds of dollars from dealer estimates for the same repairs. There is a reason why this place stays busy, it's because they are trusted, honest, efficient and explain things for you to understand things that other shops won't. The other day my car broke down in the middle of the highway and it would not start at all and I ended up getting it towed. I had friends told me about the great service at this location and that recently this place had a new set of crew in place. Without hesitating, I gave them a call and spoke to the manager Harry there. I explained to him what happened and he offer some suggestion on what maybe the cause of the problem. My battery was bad or faulty and my alternator is no longer functional. He assured me he would take a look at it thoroughly and find out. I ended up towing it there and after a few hours he explained to me that I had bigger problems than originally thought. I needed new battery, alternator, timing belt, and a new water pump. My car is over 100,000 miles and the timing belt was almost deteriorated. If it snapped it could have destroyed the engine. Luckily Harry and his team caught it in time. Within a few days my car was back up and running and working great. Grateful for him and his team on getting me back on the road so quickly. I would definitely be back with any other future issues. I originally went here because I had a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation for, I think, $21.95. I've kept going back because this is one of the only oil change places in the area I don't feel like they're trying to rip me off by telling me I need unnecessary things done to my car. I did need my rotors and front breaks replaced last year and they took me back and showed me the parts, what everything meant and explained my time frames and the costs. I went home and researched everything on the internet and they were exactly right(I did need the work and their costs were pretty good). I called around to some other businesses and priced them out by Midas came out on top. I got a free estimate at another place where a bunch on con men tried to convince me that my car needed $1,000 of work that seemed completely bogus to me! When I went back to midas, they remembered me and gave me a discount for the break work. I just went back for my regular oil change and love when they not only give me their regular great price, but I show up without an appointment and they get me in and out pretty quick. Not to mention they go through the check points on my car and give me a clean report instead of making things up to try and get money from me. Will continue to go out of my way to keep going here for my basic car maintenance. read more

I left work for exercise class in Brookline right as it was turning dark, and realized that my front headlights seemed dim. By the time I got out of class and tried to turn them on, they were completely out and it was dark - it was nuts. I quickly googled and found Midas in Brookline - called them at about 6:10pm and explained the situation. Even though they were closing at 6:30pm, the person on the phone said not to worry and to drive it right over! Both guys stayed late, until 6:50pm, past their closing time, and never complained about it.They had the headlights and changed them out for me. They were soooo nice and really helped me out of a jam - otherwise I would not have been able to drive my car home. Great service, very fast, and so wonderful to take extra time past closing. I don't write many Yelp reviews but with the service I received from Midas of Brookline, I had to. It was unfortunate that I had to come here to replace my alternator, battery, and tire pressure sensors all at once but Harry and Keith made it bearable. I came here on a Friday evening with multiple car issues. They stayed till 8ish, about 2 hours past closing time to make sure that all the work on my car was done. While many places would have just said come back tomorrow, they made sure everything was done. The team went above and beyond and for this I am very thankful. Great job guys! read more
