Hard to beat a place this friendly and professional. We recently got a car after moving to the area, and we weren't sure where to take it for regular service. As soon as I called to make an appointment, I knew we were going to stick with Advance Tire. They don't rush you off the phone, they answer questions and provide helpful advice. I dropped the car off for an oil-change and headlight-replacement appointment this morning. Just before I dropped it off, I misjudged a turn and jumped a curb, popping the passenger-side bumper out a bit. When I picked the car up -- the crew at Advance finished less than an hour later -- I told them what happened and asked if they might have advice on how I could fix it. The owner came out to my car in the rain and popped it back into place. To be clear, the bumper was entirely my mistake, I just wanted to make sure I had a good idea of what I was getting into before trying to fix it on my own or take it to a body shop. But the folks at Advance insisted on helping out. It's a little thing, but that kind of care goes a long way towards earning trust. We'll definitely be back -- hopefully just for routine maintenance! Quick and Easy! It was almost the end of the month and I had completely forgotten that I needed to get my car inspected and Advance Tire came to the rescue. I called ahead of time to make sure they were open and get a gauge on the wait if they had any. Upon arriving I handed them registration and car keys and I waited for maybe 10-15 minutes. Over the past 40 years in the Boston area, I've had good service at many tire places (Sullivan, Firestone, etc.), but several years ago I brought my car into Advanced Tire for replacement tires and I had a whole new experience. Not just very experienced folks-- at the desk, and in the shop; but really friendly, thoughtful, understanding folks. I'm in Brookline, with several major tire places just walking distance away, but I am always happy to drive the extra couple miles to Advanced Tire. Rick is the talented manager, but I've had excellent experiences with everyone who works there. I hate writing reviews like this, but I hate more when garages pull crap like this. I've been going here for probably 15 years. I've had a few sets of tires done here and I know they're way more expensive than the tire warehouses. I pay the premium for convenience to work and they have generally done a decent job in the past. I also like to keep it local when I can. The past few jobs have been real trouble for me though. A month ago a brought a car in with a nail in tire. All the construction in Cambridge has been killing my tires. Cambridge really needs to do something about the garbage those workers leave in the street. Anyway, Advance said they could patch the hole so I dropped it off. A few hours later they called and said the rear tires had very little tread left on them so they could not patch it. I knew this wasn't true. I had around 10K (2-3 months) left before they would hit the wear mark, but I said, "screw it" and decided to do it early. The wear was even across the tire. I knew the tires were still good and they still could have done the patch, but whatever. Today they took it to a whole new level though. Similar situation. I dropped the car off to repair another nail hole. They called a few hours later and said there was not enough tread on the tires for a patch. I got pissed and said no. These tires are less than a year old and have 25K on them (rear). I know the tread is good because they were checked when I had the front tires replaced at a warehouse 2 weeks ago. They have ¼" to the wear bar. They're half-way through their life. Complete and total BS. They called 5 min later to change the story and said they couldn't do the plug because it was too close to the side wall. I don't believe that's true because I've had nail holes repaired in that location before that have held. I took the car back and paid for the oil change. I attached photos to this to show the tread is fine. Not brand new, but perfectly acceptable and safe. It's too bad because I've used this place for years and they're very convenient to work for day jobs like tires and brakes. I need to find a new convenient garage for stuff like this. read more

Amazing customer service. I don't throw that word around lightly around like they do on "The Bachelor". I took my car in today because I kept getting a low tire pressure warning on run flats which is unusual. Turns out there was a nail in it and they didn't have my specific tire in stock. Usually not the end of the world but I was about to leave on a 500 mile round-trip. Advance Tire had a used but perfectly serviceable tire in my exact model and size that they lent to me *for free* while I went on vacation. Yes they installed the tire for me for free. Let that sink in a second. I mean what company does stuff like this? They ordered a new tire so when I get back it'll be ready. I appreciated that they fixed my flat tire and the broken sensor first thing in the mornning when I brought it in. However, i do not beleive the indiviudal I dealt with was honest. First: they charged me $130 for repairing the tire (new sensor and inflating tire) and putting on car. Was this a fair price? I live in western Ma - in Northampton the same product and service cost me $60) Second: The person I dealt with was somewhat adamant that I needed 2 new front tires. this contradicted the advice I had been given and subsequently reaffiremd at another tire shop that the tires were fine for now. Third: They told me I needed two new sensors. I brought it to my local tire shop which replaced one bad sensor and charge me $60 less then half what Advance charged per sensor. The fix turned off the warning light. I think someone less experienced then myself would have been overwhelmed by the salesman and seriously ripped off. As it is I feel taken advantage of but given that I was visiting in Boston I consider it to be the price of having to go to a place I didn't know or trust. I used the reviews to choose to go there which were generally good. I hope by posting this future customers can be forewarned. read more

We were having a minor issue with the windshield wiper fluid for the front windshield that we wanted to get fixed last minute before a long road trip. Normally going to the car repair shop is a nightmare for me, but Advance Tire made this process easy and convenient. My car was making a grinding noise, so I dropped it off in the morning, within a half hour I received a call diagnosing my problem, and my car was available for pickup by the end of the day. The customer service was great. They did not try to sell me on anything I didn't need, and were very fair in their pricing. Their office had proper markings to allow for social distancing, and all the workers were in masks. They do inspections as well! Said they could not repair screw in my tire. Saying the screw was too large in diameter (more than 1/4 inch shouldn't be plugged). They never removed the screw to measure its diameter. When I got the tire home I removed the object and it measure definitely less than 1/4 inch. They dont have the expertise to repair a tire correctly. But they have a way to sell you two new tires and also at $35 each more than retail cost. Maybe they should be schooled on Tech Uni Seal Patch/ Plug combo. Its been used for years now. After my recent experience with Advanced Tire I wanted to take a moment and leave a 5 star review. My daughters (100000 miles plus) car was in need of AC service and new tires. Car barley made it to shop after few stops to allow belts to cool and stop smoking. They are dishonest in their business practices with owner/owners who lack integrity. ‍ Who would have known that there was a trustworthy and compassionate tire garage in Massachusetts, let alone in Cambridge? I drive full time for Uber and Lyft one night at around 3am, I hit a curb so hard that it cracked my wheel. I didn't know it at the time so I got home with no problems the next day I wake up early to drive but my signal light shows that my tire pressure is low so I fill it up and take customers. After doing only 1 trip the light comes back on and so I decided to find a tire shop. Thank god I found ADVANCED TIRE in CAMBRIDGE I walk in and I get offered coffee and tea. I tell them about my problem they tell me that my wheel is cracked and that the air is leaking also that my tires are worn out. So what I expected was for them to keep my car for a few days until the parts came in and they fix my car. Right? isn't that what everyone does? Nope, not these guys first they understood that I use my car for work and so they rotated my tires and then the UNBELIEAVEABLE happened they went to the back got a used wheel and a used tire and slapped it on my car and told me to go and keep making some money. *MINDBLOWN* When I asked about the payment they said to pay whatever I could pay now and not to worry about it too much because they have a "low pressure" payment policy in where I could pay once the work was done, so that meant I had some, time more importantly I had a working car. It would have been great if the story ended there, however, the next day after they had just hooked me up with one of their tires, I blowout another tire driving in Everett *Note to self don't drive in Everett the potholes are incredible* So I throw on the spare tire that was in my trunk and call them the following day letting them know what happen. To my surprise, they respond by saying come bring the car in today we'll get you back on the road. At that moment I knew what it felt like to be treated like you are a part of a family. This little tire shop in the middle of Cambridge truly is one of the only places I've found in where they REALLY treat you like family. So once I get to the shop everyone is super welcoming they already were expecting me, 20 minutes later they got my car back like new with a new wheel and new tires. I didn't know how to thank them enough. So I asked for an oil change as well. I was so grateful for their help and consideration that asking for an oil change was the only way I can think of paying them back for their help. I came to understand that if you claim to have a bad experience with the guys at this shop you should probably check yourself because you aren't that good of a person, to begin with. But if you come from a different place like me *I'm from New York City* and you are looking for some friends or even a friendly experience with some great people in a time of need, like getting your tires replaced, rotated or an oil change these guys treat good people with the service that they deserve which exceptional. I pretty much love these guys... Yup, they rock. They helped me out of a potentially scary situation. My tires were practically bald last winter, only noticed really when my friend and I fishtailed our way towards a church in Cambridge, and all I could do was apologize to my friend if I got him hurt. I'm a good/experienced driver, but man... My tires sucked. After our near crash into a place of worship, I picked up the phone and called advance tire. My dad recommended them to me, and they were really convenient to my home and work. I called and asked about a million questions about tires and what was expensive, what was good for snow, wrote down all the tires they had for my car (including the ones that it came with) and did some poking around on consumer reports. I ended up spending a great deal of money on a set of 4 Nokian tires. They seemed to have the most bang for their buck, in a manner of speaking. Less than a month after I bought the tires I hit one of those potholes almost car sized, on Beacon Street in Somerville. Shortly after I read the riot act to the poor bastard who picked up the line at Somerville DPW, I called and left a message for Advance Tire - 'get me one more of those tires!' I got it for free-zees! You get one free if you buy four... basically. I went back a few days later (cause the pothole also damaged my cooling lines - expensive night, lemme tell you!) and maybe paid $20 to have the new one put on. They have also rotated my tires since there a few times. They have always been in a good mood and helped me out as quickly as possible. They even gave me a card for the guy who does the autobody work for their personal cars, when they saw the damage that was done to the rear of my car. Nice guys. I like them. I've never done business with them before but the towing company recommended them. He was super kind, super calming, and was ready to help when I said my car was on the way. When my car arrived and they called right away to get all the information. They had my front two tires replaced within two hours of me having my car dropped off by the tow truck. Seriously - the best. I've been here multiple times, but the most interesting was when the sunglasses compartment of my RAV-4 wouldn't open. It was just stuck. (Turned out wax was clogging up the hinge.) Weeks after making this observation, I was driving on a hot day when HOT WAX STARTED GUSHING OUT (and onto me). Happy to find a spot I like enough to bring my car back to. I got an oil change, inspection, and belt replacement here and the guys were great. Very responsive, organized and communicative. They let you drop your vehicle as early as 730, which was awesome for me, and close around 530. The work was done quickly and for a reasonable price. I'm a young female and a lot of times places try to rip me off... here they did not do that, and I didn't even feel like they WOULD. Im confused on all of the positive comments from this place. I had a simple flat tire repair and they were great to communicate with. However, I ended up having to spend $200 at another place to get my tires rebalanced as it massively shook when I drove it and a broken tire pressure monitor. The tire rebalance was suppose to be included, I took the car back to try to rectify the situation and they told me it was a coincidence on both issues 3 days later. read more

Really great place with the most helpful people (thanks Dave!) I came in due to a flat tire and was told that I unfortunately had a cracked rim. I only recently found out that you're not supposed to tell a mechanic that you "know next to nothing about cars" but even after sharing that information, I still felt like I was in really good hands and could trust everyone there. Dave worked with me for upwards of 2 hours trying to figure out the best place to get my rim fixed, even bringing me into the shop and showing me where the crack was and how they determined what the problem was. Needed to get my state inspection done, and called around a few places. Advance Tire was super friendly and welcoming by phone, and even more so in person. The service was speedy and efficient, and the waiting area has a great magazine selection, coffee, and comfy chairs in front of a TV. These guys are just unacceptable. They *appear* to be friendly, but what I've experienced is truly unacceptable. This is my only review on yelp, despite having had the account for 8 years. Because this shop is just that unacceptable. I had some damage to the sidewall of a tire, so I ordered a new tire and got it installed at this shop yesterday. When I left, I specifically asked: did you check the air pressure on all tires? The answer is an affirmative "yes my friend you have nothing to worry about". Driving home later that night, the TPMS came on. I used my tire gauge at home, jesus christ, it was off the charts. The maximum on my gauge is 60 psi, and it stayed there for 2 full minutes while I was releasing air before it came down below 60 psi. So the pressure when I left the store has to be way above 60. Just to remind you, my car recommends 33 psi and I don't think the maximum pressure for the tire is much above 40. I brought it into the shop the next morning. The mechanic did not even apologize. "Oh we normally use this gauge and it's working fine; when we installed your tire we probably used that other one which was faulty". He checked, and it was indeed way off. I want to emphasize, *he did not even apologize*. When I asked whether that kind of extreme pressure would do damage to the tire, he said "trust me I can drive anywhere with that car now and it will be safe". I asked again, on what extreme pressure would do to the tire, he said "oh now let me say it for the fourth time, since you don't trust me: it's perfectly fine. If there's any problem again, just come back". No, I will not go back, and I urge you not to either. The only reason I chose this shop was that I had to go out of town on 3.5 hours highway driving two days later, hence I really need the job done quick. Imagine what would have happened if TPMS did not come on. read more

Take a look at my review history and you will see that I have NEVER written a negative review and usually only use yelp to highlight businesses I love. Unfortunately, I've had an experience at Advance that has forced me to break my years long streak. The experience was so weird and random, I honestly feel like I'm being pranked or something. TL:DR They don't call until 15 minutes before closing. I rush over to get my car. Manager freaks out and yells at me, compares me to his mother, nuns, and other "annoying women." Turns out, I even made it on time. I dropped my car off for an oil change. They said they'd call me when it was done. I waited around. At about 4:45pm, I was called and told that my car was ready, but that they close at 5pm, so I'd better be there in 15 minutes. I told them I would leave work now but I couldn't promise I'd be there in 15 minutes, maybe 20. They offered to leave my car unlocked with the keys inside. I said I wasn't comfortable with that. They said they'd called three hours ago and left a message. I said I had no record of a missed call. This whole conversation was happening through one guy while the manager told him what to say, so I asked to talk to the manager directly. He basically started yelling at me, refusing to accept that he'd perhaps not called me or misdialed and implying that it was my fault I didn't get the call, telling me that I was depriving him of time spent with his twins, telling me I was treating him like he was "retarded," comparing me to his mother/teachers/nuns, telling me that was a rude, sarcastic, "annoying woman." All the while, I kept saying, well, "I'm on my way now!" To which the manager replied, "Well I hope you get here by 5pm otherwise you'll just have to wait until the morning" and then, "I'll wait but only so I never have to see you again which would be an early Christmas present to myself." I was literally running down the street as he yelled at me on my phone. I am not kidding. As it turns out, I got there at 4:57pm. There was another customer there, and as soon as the customer left, he laid into me again. I couldn't believe it! He said he never wanted to talk to me again and yelled at me to leave the store. I was honestly too shocked and too unaccustomed to fighting with strangers over literally nothing that I didn't even know what to say. I started laughing because it was so bizarre. I am still reeling from this interaction. I have worked in service industries and come from a small business family, and I honestly don't understand how I triggered his anger so intensely. It was really disturbing because he'd been so friendly when I'd come in before, both this time, and when I'd previously gotten $300 worth of repairs! It was like the spirit of some maniac had taken over his body. I could understand it if I'd actually been rude, but I really hadn't been. I was frustrated that I'd been given so little notice, but basically I was just begging for them to stay open 5 more minutes so I could get my car-- though it turned out I didn't even need that time. I even asked him to point to what I've said or done and he said that it was my "tone" and that was that. I honestly feel like he and I were not experiencing the same reality. The manager has made it more than clear that he doesn't want my business. If you are a customer who wants to be treated courteously, not have your time disrespected, or if there's the slight chance you might accidentally trigger with your "tone" his issues with his mother or nuns or whatever... he may not want your business either. read more
