All Micro Centers are great places to get electronics, but this one in particular has excellent service. The employees are passionate and knowledgeable, and the prices are competitive. This store is well organized and well stocked, and when shopping for computer parts and other electronics gives online retailers like Newegg and Amazon a run for their money. And if you're looking for computer specific items this place easily outdoes Best Buy. Micro Center might be one of the last brick and mortar computer stores left, but it remains a very competitive place to shop and as a result I always shop here first. read more

Since moving to the Philadelphia area in mid 2007 I have spent over $5,000 with Micro Center. Whether I am getting a large purchase or a cheap sync cable, they are the place to go. The staff has always been friendly and informative, the prices are very good for the most part (especially compared to other brick and mortar stores) and their return policy has saved me a lot of grief over the years. There aren't many Micro Center stores relative to the other Big Box outlets and office supply stores, and I am always glad that I live in one of the markets where there is one. read more

They've got most everything you'd need for IT, albeit at brick and mortar prices. When I must have something immediately (i.e. can't wait for Newegg), I'll come here. They DO have just about the best prices you'll find on processors though, on or offline. I got a DFI Blood Iron motherboard there for fairly cheap because the box's corner was smashed. It's cool even to just browse around because of their huge selection (though I have to come with a purpose considering how far it is from me), and the employees, while usually very busy, seem to be knowledgeable (except general PC sales, where I had a guy talk down to me about how RAM affects performance (incorrectly)). The mid-90s computer industry logos (Lotus, I think there might be a Packard Bell one) still in the front windows are hilarious in their datedness. The prices are great if you are an avid PC devotee and the inventory is well-stocked. The apple sales rep was very snobbish however and gave off an air of affected ennui. The other staff were friendly and helpful. I would come here if you are a PC user and head to Apple or Best Buy for your Mac essentials. I am giving 3 stars because of the service from the PC/peripherals staff. It would be zero stars for the unknowledgeable and rude Apple "expert" but he's just an exception or "outlier" as they say in stats. read more

I would never buy from this place again. After spending well over $1,000 on a Lenovo laptop with a warranty in place AND their so called Premium Support, what was their answer to a problem with my battery? Leave the laptop with them for 2 days so they can "verify and diagnose" the problem before they'd even think of replacing the battery. How senseless is this? Does anyone have the luxury of leaving their laptop (which is my primary business tool) with them for two days? As far as I am concerned this is just a policy to put off customers and avoid them having to purchase a battery. They have something for everyone , a PC and an Apple section, individual parts to build your computer from scratch, or pre built and clearance machines for sale. With a stacked up inventory, excellent customer service and prices that make it feel like black friday everyday, this place is an electronic enthusiast heaven. They also offer extended warranties and support on their products for the risk averse peeps. With an easy store pick up process and deals galore , i don't see a reason why this place wouldn't thrive in coming years. read more

Got some great customer service when I stopped in yesterday... Had to return some printer ink that I had received in the mail (Christmas gift) that had already been used... Yeah, some jerk apparently bought ink, took it home, opened up the packages very carefully, stuck their used ink in there, and sealed the package back up... All to save $65. Great place! This place really has EVERYTHING you may need! What I really love about Micro Center is that you have everything you need there and in stock. You don't have to wait for shipping and not know what you'll be getting. Especially if you have to return something, there are no return shipping fees you have to fight for or any of that non sense. Their return policy is flexible and great! The staff there were very knowledgable and super helpful! These people actually know what they are talking and are glad to assist about unlike other stores. Went in here for the first time in a while this past Friday. I was expecting to just check out some computer cases for an upcoming build, I ended up walking out with half the components I needed for a new PC. I cannot express how thoroughly knowledgeable their sales team is. I made another visit last night and between the two trips, I spoke to 3 different sales associates. Each time, I asked very specific questions and always got very thorough and clear answers. I was even educated a bit on RAM frequencies, the amount of platters in hard disk drives, the latest processors and mobo sockets. Not only did I learn a thing or two on my visits, but I truly felt that the sales staff understood my needs and was concerned about saving me some money. It's particularly easy to overstep that sweet spot of price for performance when it comes to PC building. They understood me and helped me achieve it. All things considered, their inventory is great and their prices were better or competitive-to online prices (after factoring sales tax). I even had to return something last night and that went EFFORTLESSLY. I even learned that certain open items could be returned the same way as unopened item. This place is absolutely great, especially for someone building a PC but good for just about anyone looking for Mac/PC computers, accessories, video game consoles, cameras and just about every little related knick knack. In a world of online ordering, it's amazing to actually be able to walk in to a store that's going to have what you need. Most electronics retailers have very little computer selection, especially beyond name brands, and good luck trying to find parts at Best Buy. You can walk into Microcenter and walk out with everything you need to build a computer. They have a deep selection of computer parts. They also have virtually any type of cable known to man. I bought a rare type of video cable there a few years ago. Not only did they have it, but the salesperson I asked knew exactly what I meant, where it was, and then remembered they had a returned on for half the price. They have a large Apple section that sometimes has discounts on macs, and has specialised accessories. They frrequently have deals and sales that beat online bargains. I bought my TV there for $800, when no one else was under $1000, and got $100 off my 360 shortly after. I've also seen them selling CPU's for well under online prices. Of I've also seen things that were overprices, so as always, caveat emptor. The biggest downside is that their salespeople work on commission, so they can sometimes get pushy toward making a sale, or warranty plans. They at least know what they are talking about, which puts them leaps and bounds past other stores. read more

Excellent selection of computer parts. Sales people are hit and miss, but generally more knowledgable then best buy. Online ordering is the way to go, though it always seems to take the sales clerk a few minutes to physically locate my order (maybe this should be organized better?!?) The absolute worst is the returns desk. The shortest ever waited is 20 minutes and its the ONLY place in the store that does returns. I think the main problem is this is the same desk where computers are taken for repair, so you're returning one little item and have to wait behind someone going over every little thing with their system. They have a electronic registration that customers use to check the machines in, but if it's even used it's worthless as everything has to be verbally reviewed. Suggestion: allow returns in an additional location, such as the pickup desk or the apple sales desk since its always empty there. The returns is such and issue that I've dropped a 5 star rating to 3 because of that and only that! read more

Micro Center is one of those places that has something for just about everyone whether you are hobbyist,/DIY'er, computer geek, electronics wizard, or just someone who wants to get a computer or computer parts. The store's layout was fairly logical and well labeled. I originally came to find a deal on a clearance sale motherboard, which unfortunately they were out of. But they had a plethora of Intel and AMD mobo's on the shelf. It was pretty overwhelming, really. And they had a clearance section where they had refurbs and returned products/open box products that were discounted. They were actually pretty good deals. I looked around some more, looking at sound cards, graphics cards, SSD's, hard drives, and cables. Their prices were actually pretty reasonable for a bricks and mortar store. So much so that I was mightily tempted to buy some new components. But I resisted. If you need computer parts and can't wait for an online order to be delivered, or if you want the insurance/safety provided by buying at a B&M store and being able to return something in person, this is the place to go. read more

I searched for parts online, priced them, checked for compatibility with my overall rig - it was a long and tedious process and in the end, I was still nervous that maybe I hadn't chosen the best components. So, I decided to go to micro center and see if they could offer any advice. I spoke with a parts specialist who had a lot of experience building computers. I have him my parts list, we talked about what I was looking for, and together we picked out each part for my new rig. It's good to know that there's still a market for the DIY'er, because a world where our PCs are prebuilt and stuffed with what the manufacturer thinks you should have sounds like hell... or one run by Steve Jobs, same difference. It's reassuring that there are enough folk out there fixing and building shit themselves for a retail store to dedicate a good 1/8 of their space to just computer components. Not perfect though, we still do live in a world driven by sales numbers and consumerism to the umpteenth degree, and MC isn't free of these binds by any means, they have to pay the rent and staff like everyone else, while still having to compete against the plethora of e-tailers who cut margins down to enough to pay Jose in a warehouse to shove shit in a box and throw it out the door [Words of the manager at MC, embellished a bit for flair]. I've no problem with a sales pitch, hell, I expect it. Radio Shack tries to sell me cell phones when I'm picking up $2 soldering items, it's everywhere. I do have issue with sales people pushing out bad information in order to make a sale, and while I expect that of Best Buy and the like, I was hoping a place catering to geeks everywhere would be more inclined to know what they're talking about as their demographic might be a bit more informed. No such luck I guess. As we mentioned, they have all sorts of tiny doodads and one-off items 99.9% of the population would never need. I was looking for a dual-molex to CPU 8-pin adapter as my 380w PSU only had a CPU 4-pin cable. No problem, get the adapter, discard the one that came attached to the PSU and we're gravy. A sales associate asked if I needed help locating an item, and when I told them what it was I needed, they proceeded to ask what system and what sized PSU I was using. Reluctantly, I told them the specs, and then had to sit through the diatribe of how they knew 380w was nowhere near enough to power the motherboard and CPU, no less the rest of the components inside the PC, and I should be at least running a 500w PSU yada yada yada. During my search for the adapter, the SA had walked off twice to look at the specs on the mobo and grab me a cheap-ass 600w PSU, you know, to guarantee I'll run the system with no issues. How many people have you duped into buying shit they didn't need? And what is this, 1999? Buy a bigger PSU than you need so you can run at the lower rungs of efficiency and thus use more power than necessary? Also, a shit 600w PSU will not sustain that during peak load, either, and I'm certain my unit is much cleaner at 380w compared to the one they suggested at 600w. Ever smell burnt electronics? Because they wanted me to. It irked me that they didn't try to help me with what I needed. Fine, I'll search for myself, go pester other customers. It really got to me that instead of using their energy to assist me, they then tried to peddle piece of shit items to sate their quotas and guarantee what I'm doing is stupid and a waste of time. Go there for the parts, just be wary of what games some of their SA are playing with you to fatten their wallets. read more

The employees are nice most of the time, except for two experiences where they gave an "ugh how could you not know this", and a "oh my god just choose something already" attitude. I really enjoy MicroCenter. They fit right between Best Buy's populist computer strategy ("Don't fix it! Pay us to fix it! Or better yet! Throw it away and buy a new one!") and local computer shops incompetency ("Uh. We're too small to keep computer parts around. I guess I could order that for you on the internet and charge a 30% markup.") They are open until 9 unlike local computer shops but have actual computer parts unlike Best Buy. It's the best of both worlds. On top of that, they offer competitive prices on par with the internet (try that local computer shop) and have pretty friendly sales people (try that Best Buy). The only problem is that it's out there and not centrally located but I'm willing to go out of my way in this case. read more

Prices are pretty good here at St. Davids Micro Center, and the Micro Center chain runs some deep discounts on accessories and run-o-the-mill laptops to get you in the door. I even got a $100 discount for signing up with their credit program, approved on the spot. Hereby beware of the add-ons. These salespeople are commission-based, and when I went in with a $700 budget, I spent $1000 because I bought into the argument that I just had to have a new everything or else I would become irrelevant in a year and a half. Guess what, at the pace of technology moves I was getting ready to upgrade within 2 years anyway, so I guess in retrospect I should have stayed under budget. I did not overpay for the product, but I overpaid for my simple needs for a simple word processor/mp3/DVD player. Now if you're a gamer or are into HD TVs this place is like a museum and you will never want to leave but sorry, they close at 9PM! Bottom line, I would return here but will avoid being reeled in to buy more than I might soon need. I have never seen such a good selection of computer products at other retail stores and they don't appear to be running out sometime soon. So I can always come back for some more good stuff when it goes on sale! I like the customer service desk and was pleased with their ability to reprint my receipt from over 2 years ago when I was having some insurance issues. Despite my good fortune where I was concerned, you ought to always photocopy a receipt you get from this store, as they have used invisible ink on the original receipts it will fade on you well within a year (which can be rather inconvenient on a big ticket item if you should later have a dispute with the retailer or manufacturer or insurance company). read more

This place is HUGE and has almost everything you would want if your a builder or business person. There is just so much cool STUFF to get for anybody who's a tech head like myself. Computer parts, doo-dads, cabling, small tools which are useful in a pinch. And even speciality area's for Apple products and video gaming centers as well. It's like a mini mall with nothing but tech products, and the staff is fairly knowledgable and can point you in the right direction without much effort. Some of the stuff is priced slightly high, but the majority is fairly affordable and they are probably the most likely shop to help you with a more technical, obscure item in a pinch. Considering there arent that many Comp USA's in the area any longer or any real large computer stores any more, this is probably the best corperate solution available anywhere and it's heavily recommended! read more

For 8 years all I have ever heard is that MicroCenter is mecca for computer nerds. I don't drive, so because it is not in the city, that has prohibited me from ever visiting. A friend needed to replace her laptop on a budget, so I suggested this place and we went out together. It's a 45 minute drive - EACH WAY - but we made the trek and got her a 'new' laptop. This 'new' laptop was riddled with so many issues it was almost comical. The most drastic was that the battery did not hold a charge. So we made ANOTHER trip to return it and get a different one. We decided to go with a refurbished different model, got that one home, and guess what? THE BATTERY WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE. How could you possibly completely look over and inspect a refurbished item and miss such a major issue? The second you boot it up Windows gives you a pop up window saying the battery is no longer holding a charge, for chrissakes! All of this would be just a little more tolerable if the staff wasn't so abysmal. The girl in returns/customer service is just a full on bitch, plain and simple. She has NO business working a job that requires interaction with the public. Even the manager I asked to speak to regarding the return of the SECOND COMPUTER was rude as HELL. Don't go here. EVER. Lots of PC and network components, printers, and other peripherals. But I find the sales staff here a bit iffy. They definitely push certain items over others and they'll always point to the "cadillac" solutions first (whether you need them or not). Some know their stuff. Others seem clueless. But better generally than the staff at Best Buy. As an Apple user, I don't wander in here much, although they do have an Apple department, and can even do some Mac/iPod repairs. I asked for help in the hobby section from two different people and the deer in headlights look was immediate. The staff cared more about getting their barcode on the product I picked off the rack because it appears they get a commission. The staff should probably know something as fundamental as soldering. It's an electronics store. Then there's the return/exchange line, which is intermingled with the computer service center. What a catastrophe. Maybe it was a bad day for them. I have a great time at Micro Center. This is what a computer store should be. Shame it's so far away or i would go more often. It's clean, Spacious and has plenty of variety. I think that is what being American is all about: being privileged enough to shop somewhere and having the 1st world problems of which ridiculously nice item to buy. I buy with the Micro Center credit card. Pay at my own leisure while building credit. I usually pay it off in a month. The employees are mostly computer nerds. I love that. People that actually KNOW what they are talking about. Unlike Best Buy and Sears where you have a guy just there for a check. I have one bone to pick with MC: those nerds I mentioned need to invest in some 2&1 Shampoo and conditioner. I was surprised to see so many of them had serious dandruff and dry scalp issues. This place is SO much better than Staples. lower prices, better selection. And they send an info packed newsletter of what is for sale often, not email. we geeky nerdy engineering types like to read. and, of course, talk tech. read more

It wasn't insanely crowded, there was plenty of available staff that answered all my questions, I never had to wait or feel like I was "bothering" them. I had never heard of this chain before. I researched Raspberry Pi and saw that Micro Centers were selling them with a free voice kit from Google. That kit is a $25 value. This is the closest Micro Center to me, an hour and 20 minutes away. I found a couple other things to do in the area and made the drive. I was impressed with the DIY aisle. I did pick up a Raspberry Pi Zero W for $5 (normally $10) in addition to my other items. I liked that I could reserve my items online. I was able to purchase and walk out with no longer paper receipt, it was e-mailed immediately to me. I poked around just a bit. It seems like anything one would need for a computer (or at least most things) is available here. They had a discount table with a couple items that looked intriguing. Prices on normal items seemed to vary from okay to expensive, but I didn't do a thorough scan of the store. read more

I wanted to like this place: it looks like a great store--a computer place that doesn't condescend to its customers! what a rarity--and most of the staff I interacted with seemed helpful and well-intentioned. This is a review of the laptop servicing I received. It's a simple story. Dropped my laptop off for warranty repair on a Saturday morning. Staff and receipt both indicated that I would hear from a technician by Monday. Monday came and went. I called on Tuesday mid-day to inquire. The employee I spoke with was surly but said he'd put a note on the file for my tech to call when he came in, supposedly that afternoon. The rest of the day went. No call. Wednesday came and went. Finally on Thursday at 4 pm he calls: but not to say it's fixed or give me any useful information, just to confirm that he understood the problem. He says he'll get back to me as soon as he has anything to report. I call the next day to ask for an update and let them know that I have to pick up my laptop on Saturday whether fixed or not; he tells me that he'll work as quickly as possible. Of course, I hear nothing more, and they haven't done anything (other than "run diagnostics") by the time I come in on Saturday afternoon. In short, they have my laptop for a week, fail to contact me when promised, provide uninformative and unresponsive customer service when I get them on the line, and don't fix the problem. The only positive is that they didn't damage the laptop. That's not enough to avoid a one-star rating. read more

Nicely organized: Aisles of software, computer parts, large do-it-yourself section, complete systems (with commissioned salespeople), digital TVs, etc. Knowledgible, helpful in-store advisors as well as drop-off repair department. In terms of buying components to build a custom PC I used to consider this Micro Center a geek's paradise. Even though it's an hour and a half from my house I found it worth the drive to get what I needed. I bought enough parts to build two PC's, and had zero issues with parts performance, or recommendations from the staff. So I figured what could be different in buying a new laptop for my son. Well...EVERYTHING!!! We purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 in February for him to use for school. Even got a sweet deal to save some percentage off by opening a Micro Center charge card. After opening the box, setting up Windows, and installing some software, we felt pretty good about the sub $300 laptop...seemed like another great deal from Micro Center. Everything changed when we eventually plugged in the power supply. First plug in yielded a loose connector, and the PS was not recognized...and it would not charge the battery. So...I called the Micro Center tech line and was told the laptop is covered by a one year manufacturer's warranty, and that bringing it back to the store would be the best, and fastest, way to get it either fixed or replaced. Get in the car for another 1.5 drive, and that's where the fun began. Upon arrival I went to the service desk and was greeted by a rep, explained my issue, and he examined the laptop. I was told this was physical damage and would not be covered under warranty...and you know the weird thing...before I said a word he said "if you want to talk to a manager I'll go get one". It almost seemed like this was a problem he had faced more than once. Said manager came over...who might have been the 20 year old kid mentioned in another review here...and he backed up what the first guy said. Since it was physical damage, it wasn't covered under warranty. I could check it in, and they would charge me for the repair. Rather than bore you all with details...the ensuing next 5 minutes were pretty tense...but I can assure you no further physical damage took place there. Fast forward to what Dell did with their one year warranty...they sent a shipping label that was prepaid, fixed the laptop within 3 days, sent it back to me free of charge, and as of now everything is in perfect working order. Micro Center in one fell swoop lost a loyal customer...I realize that maybe at the end of all things the right thing to do was call Dell...but I think it is total nonsense to handle things at the store level that way. If they need revenue from lying to a customer in order to get a repair charge that is pathetic...and if the "management" doesn't know how to handle these situations then maybe they should educate themselves better. read more

Very disappointed with this store. Last June I bought a power strip and a Dell Latitude laptop. Over the last 7 months I have had many issues with them. First the laptop did not have any drivers installed on it at all! Nothing was installed except for the operating system so I couldn't even get online to download drivers because the internet driver wasn't installed. Then they downloaded the drivers, but the power cord didn't work at all -- and they supposedly test run everything!?! The power strip I bought worked, so I thought I was all set. Now I am finding that even though it is plugged in the power randomly turns off and on based on how the cord is positioned. Very disappointed with this store. I am not sure I will ever trust them with my business again. read more

Everybody there goes the extra mile to help you out- for example, let's say you're looking for a specific type of external hard drive and you ask somebody about it. Instead of just saying "it's over there" and pointing vaguely, they actually walk you over to where it is and hand it to you. The service department is great too, though the line can be a little slow. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and as I experienced today, will stay a couple minutes after they have clocked out to show you how to adjust the settings on your computer to get better performance. I frequent this place more than I should, but I love the fact that this store not only stocks computer and computer parts/accessories, it sells many other electronic products (like TVs and cameras). It's geek heaven. This place is my "local hardware store" for picking up cables, DVD media, ink cartridges, memory sticks, etc. when I don't have time to order them on Amazon. Their prices aren't competitive with the likes of Amazon, but I understand and am willing to pay the premium for the convenience (or instant gratification). However, I should note that their sale prices on some items are quite competitive, and I have purchased a desktop, a laptop, and even a 42" TV in the past. More recently, I built a computer from scratch for my son and found out that Microcenter's frequent bundle package pricing on computer components (such as CPU/motherboard combo) are even better than that of newegg.com.
