This is my review for them based on the fact that they are an authorized apple repair center. I scheduled an appointment online with apple and they had some availability sooner than the Genius Bar in Towson. My MacBook suddenly wouldn't turn on and it is only a year old so I needed someone to take a look at it. Went in and similar to another review, the tech said it looks like it might have water damage. He pointed to some of my greasy keyboard keys. Sorry, I eat and type but certainly didn't spill water on it. He tried a different plug to charge it. Tried to do a reset. Gave up and said it would be $650 to fix it by replacing some part inside. I was shocked. Saddened and shocked that my new computer was apparently broken and I'd have to spend even more money on it. I took it home and thought I'd get a second opinion from Apple themselves before shelling out the money. Took it to apple a few days later. The apple tech takes it in the back and brings it back out ten minutes later and it turns on and works just fine. All she had to do remove the battery and put it back in and do a hard reset. She said the computer installed an update and must have glitched in the middle of the update causing it to turn off. She ran a diagnostic on it and said the computer and battery are working fine with no issues. I was so relieved and thankful. Bottom line, if you need assistance with an apple product, just take it to the Towson Genius Bar. This place doesn't know what it's doing, doesn't bother to try and just wants your money to repair what isn't broken. read more

I came here on Monday to pick up a new computer that was ready after I ordered it in less than an hour. I was immediately helped, paid for my computer and left. When I got home and opened the box I realized the computer was Much Too Big! OMG, this laptop was 17-1/2 inches and about 10 pounds-- I felt like it was crushing my lap! I brought back the new computer the very next day and was able to return it with my receipt. A nice salesperson helped me select a more suitable replacement from the display machines. I love my new computer! The only downside: you will pay more at Microcenter but I think it is worth it for the seamless customer service and for not having to endure going to Best Buy. Traveled to Maryland for work and I forgot to pack my laptop power cord. What can you do when you have to work the rest of the week and you have maybe 2 hours of battery life left. First thought go to a big box store like Best Buy but they did not have a power cord that would fit. The guys at Best Buy did me a solid and said head to MicroCenter it is 10-15 minutes away. Back in the car I go and make my way up 695 which is no picnic. Get to the store and this place is just one huge computer store. I cannot believe they do not have a part that anyone could need. They directed me to the aisle I needed and said they would have someone meet me there to assist me and do you know what, that's exactly what they did. The salesperson listened to what I had to say and what I needed. He had a couple of solutions and explained them to me and then we took the one we agreed on and made sure it would work. I had a great experience here and if you need anything for your computer this is the place to go! Wish we had one in Raleigh. read more

I love Microcenter and definitely prefer making the trip here versus online retailers, but my last few trips have left me feeling pretty neglected as a customer. I'm pretty convinced nobody actually checks open boxe returns because in my experience only a minority of them functioned (processor with globs of thermal paste on pin side), and "complete" was not always as stated. I can no longer trust any open box items here. That was fine until customer service started dropping for me. I checked their website everyday for 2 weeks for the new Ryzen chip to restock. This was to avoid wasting a one hour drive. The site would say 5 in stock, then turn to 0 when added to cart. 3700x: 0, 3900x: 0. I called customer support 3-4 times to see if I could get an ETA on restock "We don't have any, and don't know when". I finally managed to catch a 3800x on the website which was my 3rd choice and reserved it. I walk in and Im met with a wall of 3700x's at the processor shelf. I pull up the website: "0 in stock", customer support: "we have none", in front of me "48 in stock". 3900x's actually out of stock and still no ETA. Manager is called to see if anything can be done about website, NOPE. I ask to cancel my online order to not keep that 3800x tied up. Customer service sends me to knowledge bar, who sends me to internet pickup, which has no worker, I check out and ask the register, who says he can help me at another computer, but basically couldn't be bothered to. It feels like the only actual time someone wants to help you is to put their stupid sticker on your product to tell the system "hey look I helped". Highly disappointed in how customer service has fallen here. read more

I wouldn't by any means call myself a techie but I do love technology and this place feeds into my love. I'be purchased a ton of items here as well as used their help desk to get some things fixed. Follow up from their help desk could be better but I have no complaints I've taken two work computers here and they have always fixed them within the budget we needed. Purchasing items have also been a breeze, the staff is knowledgeable and honest which is nice when I'm spending hundreds on technology. I also like that they have a good selection of everything. Not once have I come looking for something and they didn't have it. They also price match which is nice, once I find something I like I know I can get the best price here. read more

Microcenter is great if you don't want to wait for Amazon shipping. There is not much mark up. It is pretty much the only place that you can get this kind of selection for computer parts. That being said, holy moly the employees here are dead in the eyes. They seemed miserable, disinterested, and sad. It was very awkward communicating with them across the board. I don't know if this is true of all microcenters but I strongly suggest that this location work on employee training/happiness. read more

I needed lots of stuff to reconstruct my one girl band portable speaker/amp and wireless mic set -up after I gave up my business due to Covid and jettisoned my very old equipment Ben at Micro Center on Joppa Road is amazing! I'm not a technical person so it was wonderful to have someone who knows about music equipment. He's Incredibly patient and smart, and listened intently to my less-than-techinical descriptions of what I remembered I used before. He looked up the schematics for my speaker amp to confirm the set-up, then got my purchase history so he was able to get all the cables, etc. that I couldn't remember, plus a great price on an iPad to replace my iPod that also went south. They are my go-to store for my Mac, too, and replaced my battery when I couldn't reach Apple stores during COVID. read more

We just bought a new Apple MacBook Pro in July of this year. We went back for tech-support because we could not reset our password. We've only had the computer for a little over a month and they wanted to charge us $40 to reset the password. You would think that there was a certain period of time where we had tech-support for no charge. Will never shop at this place again! I was trying to find a phone number to call and the only thing I could find was a chat. I wanted to call the manager and complain. Absolutely ridiculous! You can buy a computer out of the box or build it from scratch here. You can buy all the tools and parts necessary to do all kinds of computer surgery. And if you don't know how, you can buy books to make you smart so you CAN KNOW how!! And if you need help, they have smarter computer geek-type sales force to help out! Their customer service is poor and I found their techs to be lazy at best. I sent an email, with a list of parts for a custom build. Their website specifically states they do a custom build on request, so in sending them a list of 'exact' parts, I figured I'd be one step ahead of the game. I let the team know I was overseas 'at the time' and if they could give me a quote on the cost of the build. 'upon my return' I would come by the pay for the system (if acceptable) and we could move forward. What I received was a response from a team that 1. Did not read the email. They stated they did not do orders overseas. (WTF?) 2. Did not give me a quote, but instead, stated they didn't do orders over email. (again, WTF?) 3. Stated they did not have the items on my list available with the exception of the one item I requested. Instead of providing me an actual price of the item, I got a link. Placing Kurt's email directly in the recycling bin, I went to their website just for shits and gigs. What I found was every item on my list, minus the power supply, which there was an exact substitute for (just a different brand), and the Case. So, rather than showing good customer service and a little, fucking motivation, I was greeted by a lazy rep who simply couldn't be bothered to try to win over another customer. Sorry, but after that experience, you've lost my business and any recommendations from me. Today, I visited this Micro Center location with my father. We browsed computers for approximately 30 minutes while we observed 3 white salespersons stand around talking to one another & in my opinion not doing anything. Then we observed 3 sets of customers (who happened to be white as well) who were immediately approached & asked if they needed help. I admit I did get a little angry and so did my father who at that point started at the 3 salespeople who were doing nothing but talking amongst themselves. At that point, one of the salesperson said "Do you folks need any help?" to which we replied "Not anymore". It seems like African American customers are treated differently in this Micro Center location. Not only do I have a credit card at this store, I have purchased 3 computers and numerous accessories over the past 3-4 years. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Being a gamer and having been out of computer-building for quite some time, I was pretty nervous in getting the right upgrades. I came here as referred by a co-worker, and the staff was VERY helpful. I am almost positive that the one who helped me was named Will. He was very knowledgeable, and helped direct me to items that were within my budget, answering any questions and addressing any concerns I had. Simply put, the WORST experience in buying a PC I have ever had. The store clerk, Joseph Thon, was rude, dismissive and aggressively tried to push parts on me saying they were "the last ones they had in stock". Numerous times during our conversation, he just walked off and acted like he had better things to do with his day than discuss the purchase of a PC with me. He did not seem to have any other customers or phone calls to attend to. It felt like this was pushing me through every decision to be made. When picking out a case for the computer, Mr. Thon pointed at one and said "just take it already". I was honestly on the verge of walking out but was eager to replace my computer since it had just died that day and I work from home. It was a mistake. Upon taking the PC home I found that the hard drive I bought was not correctly installed in order to be identified by the OS and there was less RAM than I paid for installed in the machine. Later, I discovered that the fans on my GPU were not properly set up after the PC overheated because they were set to remain off until the PC reached more than 60 degrees Celsius. The computer is still under warranty but I absolutely do not trust them enough to seek them out for any reason ever again. I would sooner see that store burned to the ground than return even for a refund. I have since talked to several other patrons of this location. They told me they experienced similar dismissive attitudes and felt rushed buying other products (headphones, etc) from employees at this Micro Center. The Micro Center at 1957 E. Joppa Road in Parkville, Maryland seems to operate like a shady used car salesman. They know they have something you want and they take pride in abusing their customer base through underhanded and aggressive salesmanship. I needed my sealed/glued battery replaced on my 6 year old MacBook Pro -- which is a bit too tedious and dangerous of a DIY. Unfortunately, the Apple Stores were closed (due to COVID), so I wanted to find an Apple Authorized Repair Center: enter Micro Center. Appointments are probably recommended, but I just walked in knowing that I didn't need the computer back anytime soon. It was a bit of a wait before speaking with someone, but once I got it checked it everything was smooth sailing. The repair was done in a few days. I can't find anything wrong with it. I paid a premium for Micro Center to do it (versus an Apple Genius Bar appointment) - but there really wasn't any other option. read more

The store is like walking through a candy shop. So much tantalizing technology! If one is not careful they could easily lose control and splurge on the latest gadgets. Walking around saying "ooo" and "aaah" is a wonderful past-time if one isn't prone to overspending, but employee help is a real gamble depending on department. Walking around the laptop section, I stumbled across a man who asked if I needed any help. I told him I was looking for an ID card holder for my lanyard and he was more than happy to point me in the right direction. I couldn't find the lanyard, but that's ok, it's a tech store, ya know? IN CONTRAST walking through the computer COMPONENT section is skating on thin ice. I wanted to ask a question about my motherboard and how it should be replaced because my computer keeps freezing up. I trotted to the back of the store where the computer component section was and was intercepted by some, well, nerd who obviously liked computers very much. I asked my question about the topic stated above and responded in a very snappy, pretentious tone, saying, "You need to tell me the exact models of the motherboard, graphics card, and processor in order for me to help you." Listen to me rite here - I don't know much about computers which is my fault, sure. However, responding that pretentiously to a novice that's simply shopping around is not welcoming in the least. I'm sorry to say, but some workers are almost unapproachable due to this reason. It was like I was talking to the embodiment of the "PC Master Race" internet community. Needless to say, I did not return to that employee. It would've resulted in a big ol' honkin' headache. The store is like tech heaven and the prices are just about as good as most online retailers, but one needs to stay frosty before responding to employees. Go with the instincts: If they seem to wreak of snobs-syndrome when they ask "Can I help you with anything?" just say no and find someone who actually looks hospitable. Microcenter is a saving-grace for us geeks who remember the CompUSA days. It's great to have a brick and mortar store with completive prices and an amazing selection. And it's nice to be in an area where Best Buy isn't my only option. With that being said, THE EMPLOYEES HERE SUCK! Out of all the ones I've managed to talk to, only 1 or 2 seemed to actually be helpful or without some kind of condescending aura around them. I'm convinced that most of these guys are LITERALLY robots disguised as humans. Not an OUNCE of personality within them. I love micro center for their products but this is a review of their Knowledge Bar. I bought my fairly new (less than 6 months) laptop in because a key came off. I paid for the 2 year accident warranty because as they explained... If anything happens just bring it in and we'll take care of it. So I brought it in. I was told go to ebay and buy a key and do it myself. Are you serious?!? I don't care if it's only a dollar on ebay. I paid you to fix it! I have an Apple product and went to Apple's website, entered my serial number and was told my battery can be replaced for $129 at Apple store or any authorized repair center, which included Micro Center. I made the appointment there on Apple's website and arrive to be told they want to charge $170 instead and they don't respect Apole's pricing. Wasted my time and insulted my intelligence. I've had nothing but great experiences with Micro Center my entire time purchasing from them, until my most recent issue. I went with intention of buying a new gaming headset. I consulted with an associate through my entire experience and I was between two different pairs. One that was $130 and a Steelseries that was $250. I was on the fence with how expensive it was because I knew of the return policy on headphones. He convinced me to purchase the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro headset. This was only because he said to purchase the protection plan which would save me if I didn't end up liking the headset. Then I would be able to return for store credit, or I could keep the headset and right as my protection plan runs out in two years, I can return it for another one or store credit as well. I specifically asked him if there has to be an issue with the headset or will Microcenter take it back even if I'm not satisfied. He said there will be no issues returning if you purchase the protection plan. Well I brought the headset home and wow is it terrible. There has to be something wrong with this due to the way it sounds. I then brought it back to Microcenter to be exchanged for store credit (which again, I was told by a Microcenter employee who sold me the headset) and they would not take it back. Now I am forced to keep a headset that is not up to the quality that was promised. The manager who was in the store did not care one bit that a customer who has spent thousands of dollars at Microcenter is now just fully out of $300 due to an employee falsely informing me of the policy and how it should be used. Best experience! I went into the store to pick up a soldering iron and a few capacitors. I was asked if I needed help (always a good sign) and I explained what I was looking for . The gentleman show d me what I wanted (less expensive than home Depot) and also where the capacitors were. I ended up purchasing more items and now I will definitely come back. I am big on customer service and if I am at least acknowledged I will be a customer for life. They make you feel like they really do appreciate your business. I love their 20 minute buy online pick up in store option. They also have a area where you can have your computer trouble shooted and repaired. But their low cost warranties, they replace or give value of product with no questions asked and super easily. Sometimes their products can be more expensive but they price match everyone including amazon! Their refurbished products are great value and I've never had any issues with them. I was very disappointed with the customer service in the computer parts department with the purchase of a new harddrive for my laptop. I informed the customer service person that I needed a harddrive that was 7mm in height. He informed me that they all are a standard size and that all of them will work. That, of course, is not the true. He really did not want to help me after that discussion as he thought I was wrong in my understanding that not all 2.5" hard drive are the same dimension. He informed me that I would have to special order the drive I wanted because he did not have anything that fit my computer in stock. Decent prices but I love it more so for the fact there's a legit tech storefront I can get to. Most shops that existed are long gone so there's been this void for tech ppl to sate our urges so once an actual storefront opened up kind of close to me, I was more than thrilled. Unfortunately, I rarely receive decent customer service from this location. The checkout agents are fab, the sales agents are abysmal. I waited approximately 12 minutes before two geeks caught up in a -- no joke -- star wars debate at the HDD counter. They both looked at me at various times throughout their conversation so they knew I was waiting, they just continued to converse as if I didn't exist until they were ready for me to exist. Once one finally broke away, I told SW geek #2 what I was looking for and he pointed in a general direction then turned away from me to continue talking to the other employee. I could've said something but I wanted to see just how long they'd have me waiting there before acknowledging that I was a customer who needed assistance. I then moved to browse through the wireless routers, considering whether or not to get a new one when I was approached by a helpful gent who asked me if I needed assistance as he could see me quizzically looking at the box of one particular router. He told me he wasn't very savvy so could not answer my question and went to bring me someone who could assist me better. I was appreciative but waited again, a considerable amount of time, then I was brought what had to be THE MOST obnoxious & condescending self-proclaimed "IT expert" I have ever met in my life. Being in the field for 21yrs and a legit techie myself, a good portion of the industry is saturated with obnoxious, condescending "know-it alls" so I have a mustered resolve for encountering them. He was so over the top and repeatedly stated how he knows everything technology, he legit said that. The question which prompted this pairing was something about the box of a router I was interested in, being contradictory or not explicitly stating something about the bands. It said one thing on the front but on the back it was absent from the technical specifications and I wanted clarity, in comes this moron who did not address the question at hand but went on and on about how he's some IT g*d, yet he works at Micro Center as a salesman - for over 10yrs (came from another branch location) ...I think he said 18yrs. Either way, dude you're at Wendy's stop puffing your chest and find yourself. To avoid the hideous sales people, I once ordered and picked up. I was 3rd in line at the online orders pickup, I waited 45 mins. I love to browse tech and will be building a new PC soon, perhaps I will make the 1+hr drive to the Rockville location instead for my non-essential parts. read more

I came to purchase a new computer monitor. I called and was told the store had the monitor I wanted in stock. When I arrived the store did not have the monitor . The customer service rep was NOT helpful at all, he brushed me off quickly. However Tom one of the supervisors came to assist me, he never left me until I had everything I needed. I appreciate him. Like with walmart I walk in there for one part and usually end up coming out with a shopping cart full of goodies. From time to time you catch an attitude but for the most part you get really passionate geeks who know their stuff! I was in the market to purchase a new laptop. I live very close to this store, so I'd always pop in after I got my nails done or ran to Burlington. This store has an abundant selection and a handful of mute employees. Yes, mute. I've wandered around this store on several occasions and not one employee has spoken to me. A simple hello would suffice. An acknowledgment of my presence. It seems like these guys just show up to work and stand. LOL. The last time I went, a younger Black guy in the computer section spoke to me. He showed me where the computer I wanted was located and explained the process of ordering it online and picking it up in the store. Thanks, lol but no thanks.
