Last Saturday we went as a large group to experience what Michiels was all about. When you come into the main doors you are greeted by a normal Wisconsin bar scene with televisions and ample seating. When you would like to dine the dining area is not too large. However, they make up for their lack of seating with their use of the space. They put tables together for our party of eight and it worked well. The salad bar was a delightful Wisconsin supper club salad bar. It was offered with every dinner. The salad bar was delightful with nice greens, fresh veggies throughout, some delightful sides, and finally their two options for soup. Everyone at our table had the seafood soup. It was well made. A rich creamy base with an ample amount of seafood and potatoes and a few vegetables. Once dinner arrived, we had one who tried the surf and turf, lobster and tenderloin. Lobster was tender, juicy and served with butter. The steak was cooked to medium rare, though I asked for rare. Other steaks at the table were a 10 oz. Tenderloin and a 12 oz. Tenderloin and a 16 oz. Rib eye and a petite prime rib. Another had a full rack of ribs, and another had the walleye and the other a creamy chicken dish. All of the steaks were a fraction more than what we ordered. The med rare I ordered was more medium. The rares at the table were more med rare etc. take that into account as you order. As sides go, the garlic mash was a hit. Good portion size. Very tasty. All in all the meat was real and delicious. With all of the meat glue instances out there, it was good to have an actual cut of meat which wasn't manufactured. Desert was great as well. Lava cakes, sundaes, etc. only complaint, they didn't have cheese cake though several were told they did and wanted, but we shifted to lava cakes and were not disappointed. Michiels has earned a future trip for me. I will return. read more

This hidden gem in Menasha will exceed your expectations. The food was great, especially their soup and salad bar. Sunday brunch is a great deal with all the breakfast favorites, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and a homemade herb creamy gravy (also great on their fresh biscuits). The bar area is comfy and large. We had an old fashioned. They were both on the weaker side. The salad bar is terrific. Small but everything was fresh and replenished often. I had the perch. In my opinion it was too breaded. The fries were piping hot and good. My husband had the seafood platter and said the scallops were rubbery and the shrimp were decent. He said the haddock was very good and would return for the all you can eat haddock. We have been here before and will return but stick to the sandwiches. The party melts are excellent. read more

We came here last night for dinner. My brother and his wife seemed to rave about the quality of food here and I was like LOL. It is incredibly small and very noisy inside. We were greeted immediately and seated relatively quickly, but the food was horrendous. I went with the haddock and fries. It was basically three pieces of the Gortons fisherman fish sticks right out of the deep freezer. Fries were dry, burnt and inedible as was most of the dish. The server was quick and efficient, but their food quality is on par with most Wisconsin bars. Skip it if you're looking for a meal. read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner tonight. We sat at the bar and the bartender greeted us immediately. She was very attentive. I ordered the Cobb salad and my husband had a flat bread pizza. He said the pizza was very very good. My salad, not so much. The chicken breast on the salad was the smallest, driest piece of chicken I've ever seen. Very small, very dry. There was also a pile of dark crumbles on the salad that I had to ask the bartender what it was... both hubby and I tasted it but couldn't figure out what it was. Bacon. Way over done. We have eaten here before, in fact I recommend the coconut shrimp! I won't be ordering this salad again. I was very disappointed to see no chicken sandwiches on the menu. But with the chicken breast's being so tiny and dry I can see why. We will be back though and give them another try. read more

Food is terribly bland, added salt and that didn't help. I can make better food at home. I don't why people patronize a restaurant that is overpriced with horrible food. I guess the patrons like horrible bland food because there were plenty of fools in there wasting their money or perhaps they don't know what high priced food should taste like and be prepared. I would NEVER chose to go there, I was invited and someone else paid for my meal. I certainly wouldn't have paid for it. Only ate a couple of bites to be polite. Their Sunday brunch was fantastic - big salad bar (including hot bacon dressing!), 2 soups, breakfast foods, broasted chicken & fixings, tenderloin tips, and several desserts. Salad bar and bacon dressing were very good. Soups were over seasoned. My wife's tenderloin was just so so. Both ours and others in our groups baked potatoes were way over cooked looked like old ones reheated yellow inside dry and hard awful. My haddock was ok but was not firm like haddock is was sort of watery more like cod. Stir fry shrimp was way over seasoned friend ate the well done shrimp and pea pods rice and rest just too strong. Two stuffed chicken breasts again way over seasoned. We had 9 people and took awhile to get food we didn't complain just accepted as this is what you get. Waitress was good and very busy. Comfy local pub with many regulars. My favorite is the mango avocado salad with salmon on spinach. Nicely presented, large portions. Friend had large pizza, lots of toppings, generous. Seemed that they were short on servers, with a large table taking a lot of effort in the back. read more

Good Friday fish and the clam chowder which is part of their salad bar rocks. They do get pretty busy on the weekends, so their might be a wait to be seated. The bartenders make great cocktails and their desserts are worth checking out! read more

My husband and I went to enjoy some seafood and prime rib. They had no prime rib to start with. He ordered the ribs and i ordered shrimp scampi and 2 lobster tails. Oh I also ordered the onion soup. The only thing that was edible was the lobster tails. Everything else was terrible and we couldn't eat it. The ribs had so much seasoning he actually spit it out. I tasted the ribs and did the same. His potato was hard and cold. His onion soup he got off the salad bar was so salty it was inedible, same as the onion soup I paid for. The waiter asked how the meal was and I was honest and told him. He asked what I wanted to do and I told him I would like him to take the stuff we couldn't eat off the bill. That's when he got rude and said he would see what he could do. Attitude right away. He came back to the table and told us all they were going to take off was the 6 dollar soup. That meal was 100 bucks and we couldn't even eat it. I had to share my lobster tail so we both left hungry. We used to go here often when Monty owned it and it was great. Whoever he sold it to does not care. The place looks dingy and dirty too. It took forever to even get served and we were 2 of only 5 people in the place. The rudeness was unnecessary. Needless to say, we won't ever be back. 100 bucks for 2 small lobster tails. If you want a meal don't go here. It's outdated, bad service and the food wasn't edible. I feel like they pretty much stole my money. They made me give it one star to post but I would otherwise give it no stars at all. That's how bad it was. The blt's we made when we got home were awesome though. read more

If I would have read these reviews prior to going I would have never gone. We only go to restaurants with at least 4 stars. I can see why the rating is 2.5 stars. We other ordered a soda and they were flat. We do understand sometimes restaurants have "bar" soda where the soda is flat, but this also had a bad taste. I returned mine but my husband decided to drink his. Bad soda first clue. We decided to try the white cheese curds. Nothing special. We than both decided to get only the salad Bar at for lunch at $10 each. I asked the server for some bread or rolls and she said they only serve it at dinner. For $10? They had cream of mushroom soup. Probably the worst I have ever had. The roasted red pepper was ok. My husband had the liver pâté and he said it was gritty and chunky. The cold shrimp on the salad bar was soaking in water and were mushy. Pasta salad bland. Overall salad bar was a huge letdown. Will not be returning. read more

My son and I went to Michiels for 2021 Christmas Day dinner. My husband is a 60-year old 100% service-connected disabled veteran who was unable to accompany us due to a flair-up of a service-related illness. We were less than 15 minutes late for our reservation. I called them to say we were running late. When we arrived, the man running the restaurant appeared panicked and said loudly to the hostess, "We already marked them as a no show!" I told him I called and he irritatingly admitted that we had. It was clear the dining room was overbooked and he hoped we we would disappear. I had no groceries to make Christmas dinner for my family and no other restaurants could take us without a reservation. A table was begrudgingly set for us but the man smirked and rolled his eyes when I said my husband couldn't make it. Never treated so rude in my life. read more

I was at Michiels around 600pm on Friday April 20th, and ordered a Tenderloin and Broiled Shrimp. The Tenderloin was perfect, however the Shrimp were very mushy and nasty! I would never get shrimp there again! The portions were ok but over priced, the service was fair but the bartenders seemed a tad snippy. read more

My family waited 20 minutes before being seated or even acknowledged. The salad was okay but not huge but I felt safe with having to wear gloves up there. Very disappointed... I ordered a prime rib and a friend of mine order fillet mignon. Both were cooked under a skillet or in a oven and burned. Tough writing a negative review for a place we love coming to. Unfortunately, we have come to realization that making a reservation here is not worth it. They treat it like a walk-in and every time we arrive, we wait 45 minutes for a table. Nothing negative to say about the food or staff. Always busy and great atmosphere. We were hungry for lunch and trying to find something 'new' on our travels... stumbled upon Michiels. Wow- We are so glad that we did! GREAT service. Everyone was friendly (and it was busy). Daughter had Macaroni and Cheese (Kraft - but that's what kids like!) and French fries. Husband had the AYCE Fish/sandwich bar/salad bar. I had the AYCE salad bar. HOMEMADE EVERYTHING. Seriously. Clam chowder - wowza. Light breading on the fish. Smoked-meats on the sandwich bar (and not cheap meats!). I could go on and on... this place reminded my of 'The Northwoods' in Marquette (great restaurant that sadly closed down many years ago). Our tab - $34.77. One of the big things in WI is the Friday Fish Fry. Now I don't know all the details of how this originated, or why and all that, as it's my husband that is from WI, but I do know that I love almost anything fried. When visiting in June of this year, I brought my parents with me to meet my husband's extended family and friends that were unable to make it to our wedding last year. And they wanted to take my parents out to a Friday Fish Fry, but at a nicer place than the typical Fish Fry. And hence we ended up about 15 minutes outside of Appleton at Michiels Bar and Grill. Now for a group as large as ours, (about 22 I think) they were super accommodating, and the waitresses never once got frazzled with the various orders, or constant requests for more beer. They offer fried lake perch, haddock, scallops, whitefish and a seafood platter, all meals include potato, soup and salad bar, and clam chowder for under $15. In addition, they have pastas, steaks, salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and wraps. If you are wanting for American food, you most likely will be able to find whatever you want here! I definitely would recommend this place to any out of towners or even people in town that want to try a fish fry! It was fun! read more

Terrible food. I ordered the deep-fried scallops. They were served too brown and shriveled. They had corn-breading and an off taste. I ate two or three; I did not even have them packaged up, and I rarely waste food. My friend had the stuffed tenderloin which was nothing special, but not awful. Both of our potato choices were only ok: the French fries were soggy and the garlic mashed potatoes were bland and way too much garlic powder. We tried this restaurant because of a coupon and will not return. The only high point: an excellent salad bar. read more

Came here for Friday fish, and everything was pretty good. The music was a little loud, but it was live and fun to listen to. The salad bar was well stocked and good. The fish itself was really good. I've never been a huge fish fan, but I was told that I HAVE TO DO Friday fish. The fish came out well fried and seasoned. It was all-you-can-eat for a reasonable price. Since Monty sold to his brother its a rip off. Went with a discount from restaurant.com. When she came back with my $55.00 tab, $18.50 was added as a service fee! Just the 2 of us. When I asked, she said the website adds it so we don't have to add a tip. I call B.S. as never has happened anywhere in the past, including there. We are generous tippers, but no one will tell me to add 33% to the bill for 2 people with mediocre service. I would not recommend and will never go back. My sister and I had my mom's memorial brunch there March 25th. I could NOT have been happier with Jennifer or Monty. They were both above helpful. The food was great! We had approximately 50 people. I see one of the complaints was that they added a gratuity automatically. I was definitely ok with this because the buffet was hot and very tasty. I could not complain about the service at the tables, even though it was buffet. They all treated us very well. I was a bit surprised that they automatically added the same 18% tip on the bar bill ... which was way over 2x the food bill. That I had never seen before. But all and all I can say it was very good and we had my dad's memorial dinner there about 10 years ago and were happy then..which is why we came back. Very welcoming and great service. The food and service was good. We used an online restaurant certificate $25 off $50 and was charged 18% gratuity for a party of only 2. Our waitress basically told us that it was standard practice to charge gratuity when using the discount. I eat out often and know proper dining etiquette. I always leave a tip. So we gave this place a second chance after a poor experience 2 years ago. This was the last visit. 4 of us came for a birthday dinner and the tenderloin for 2 special. Worst service ever. They've never heard of a Moscow Mule, looked up the recipe but didn't have ginger beer. It took 10 minutes for 4 beers to be delivered. There were only two other tables. The.meal (steak, pasta and French Dip took 30 minutes). One person was served with no explanation that the other 3 meals would be there aoon. Server needed a reminder that a second beer had been ordered. Pas u a was excellent, the other meals were fair. Asked for boxes, waited 10 minutes while server chatted with another table. A member of our party asked him for the boxes and when he brought them he chastised us for being disrespectful and interrupting his service at another table. This is a neighborhood bar that wants to be a classic Wisconsin supper club but has a long way to go. Used to be our Absolute Favorite place 10 years ago. My how times have changed. The dishes and silverware at table and salad bar were dirty. The french soup was "muddy" and so salty. My two sons ordered all you can eat chicken and ribs, I ordered the stuffed tenderloin, my wife the tenderloin, and daughter had boneless wings. My tenderloin was Amazing, the boneless wings were good. However my wife's tenderloin was very tough. The boys ordered more ribs, the second order took almost 30 minutes and was so cold in the middle we had to send back. They ordered more and were all but scolded because it was all you can eat chicken and ribs not just ribs ? My boys said the chicken was bad, I tasted the chicken and it was very chewy. When I mentioned this to our waitress she had the audacity to question me and stated their chicken is always good. They did knock $10.00 off the bill, thank you. But there are too many other nice restaurants in town now. Will miss this place the way it was in the past, I still have my memories. read more

I've been here 2 times now. The first time was really good food wise but this time it was almost inedible. I had the sea food stir fry both times. On Friday (the 2nd time I ordered it) it was the saltiest thing I've ever had. I get stir fry isn't without some sodium but my GOD! I got down a few bites and I just couldn't! Packaged it up and thought maybe I'd try it later and my taste was off. Next morning? Nope. Yuck. Whole thing in the garbage. That's $16 down the drain. My husband had the fish and while he did say it was ok he also said the breading was really bland and he's had a TON of fish fries. The salad bar was ok minus something I couldn't identify (my husband said it was a pasta salad although I didn't see any noodles in it) I think I would pick another place if you're looking to spend a few bucks on a Friday night. The food is average at best. The perch was poor. They use a coconut breading that completely overwhelms the taste of the fish. Another of our party had the seafood platter. Good value for the price, but again taste underwhelming. The nice thing about Michiels is the atmosphere. You are able to truly enjoy your time, and have a nice leisurely dinner. I went in with high expectations, the sign had a steak and lobster tail for $25, it must be a classy place to dine and enjoy a cocktail. I went in and had sat at the bar with my girlfriend and her mother and her friend. We sat down at the bar. The bartender greeted my girl friends mother and then my girl friend. Leaving me out of the picture. She got my girl friends mothers drink, and my girl friends also. Then she asked who was paying... Her mother had left a 20 on the counter. She then turned looked at me and smiled, and stood their and smiles. Then with an irritated voice asked if she could help me. ( I just wonder why she treated me so different from my girl friend and her mother, I clearly walked in with them, and sat with them in a group. I do have dark skin, and my girl friend and her mother both have fair skin, but why should that matter in the first place.) Then I asked if they carried corona, I have never been to this bar before and was just asking. She responded saying yes rudely, and asked to see my ID. When she never asked my girl friend or her mother. (Who never been to this restaurant as well.. Even though my girl friends mother lives down the road.) I gave her my ID, and instead of giving it back to me, she through it on the counter top by my coaster. This is when my girl friend had noticed something. I explained to her what had happened and the way it had made feel, she had calmed me down to give them a second chance. We ordered our second round of drinks.... We had moved to the fire located a few feet with in the bar. At this time the bar tender was standing by the wait staff door talking to two younger ladies sitting at the end of the bar. My girl friend knew one of the ladies... She also knew that she used to/still does work at this restaurant. They were not dressed in uniform, so she assumed that she wasn't working. My girl friend went up to the bar, ordered the nachos, and order of 10 wings, and then paid. The bartender then brought us plates and dip for our nachos, but our appetizers were not brought out at this time. About 7-9 minutes had past by. My girl friends mom went up to the bar and ordered a quesadilla. Then the bartender brought her out a plate and dip. And had told us she was getting a waitress because she's busy at the bar. ( Not to mention their was about 6 people at the bar including the 2 girls she was chatting with.) She walked up to the bar went back to talking to the two girls. 13 Minutes later my girl friends mother gets her appetizer. And the waitressed had asked me and my girl friend if we were waiting for something. My girl friend had said yes nachos and wings. The waitress then said ok and went into the waiting staff doors. About 8 minutes later the food came out. My girl friends mother was almost done with hers. We had mentioned something to the waitress after we ordered our drinks, she had explained that our food takes longer to prepare. We left it at that and enjoyed our drinks. When I went to take a sip, I had a hard chunk to my lip, I put the bottle in the light thinking it was a piece of lime from the lime wedge. It looked strange in shape. I took it off the bottle and placed it on the table. As soon as this happened my girl friend had saw, she exclaimed Is that a finger nail. I took a closer look, and yes it was a cut finger nail on the side of my neck of my beer bottle. That was it, and the last straw. We put on our coats, and walked out. Her mother stayed behind to tell what had happened. The bar tender said "oh my can I get you a gift card" and my girl friends mother replied "no thank you, this was horrible service, over priced food, and drinks. I will never come here again." Was there this past Saturday, 10-28-2017. Bar was full when we arrived around 5:15. 3 of us in total. Bartender made good drinks after she caught up. (when busy and 1 bartender that likes to talk, 2 would be better). In the past 10 yrs, we have been here at least 20 times if not more. Ordered the rack of ribs. Always good and fall off the bone. Something was different and couldn't figure it out. Had no taste. Told Jenn about it to let kitchen know there is no flavor. Took them home and Sunday I put them on the grill with my chicken I was going to cook. Added a lot more bbq sauce and WOW.. great ribs. Wish I would of asked for extra bbq sauce when I was there... that is what was missing. They weren't fall off the bone done and not even close to the sauce like usual. 10 mins on grill, more sauce, problem fixed. Other then that, great meal had by the other 2. Next time I will ask for more bbq sauce and am sure 4 if not 5 stars will be selected! Other then that, salad bar is one of the best in NE WI.
