Please note, this review was started a few months ago and finally completed today.
This shop is small and dated but relatively clean. There are no signs for prices listed anywhere in the shop. Basically, you bring it in and she takes a look at it and gives you a price which should've been a red flag.
I was pleased with my initial visit. I had a pair of slacks from Macy's shortened for about 12 dollars plus tax. I was happy with the work. Several months later, I brought another pair of my slacks purchased from Express, a pair of my husband's slacks (Mens Wearhouse) that were ripped and a blazer for him. The initial consultation price for my slacks were agreeable. I wanted to shorten the slacks again as I am petite. I also wanted the legs to be brought in (tapered) so that it would be more fitted. The pricing to repair my husband's slacks was also agreeable. All was good until she told me the price for shortening the sleeves on my husband's blazer. She told me that since we were Hmong like her, she would give me a "Hmong" discount. Instead of the normal price for shortening the sleeve of a blazer, it would be about 40-45 bucks with the "Hmong" discount. We thought it was ludicrous but since we wanted to get our clothes altered asap, we decided to just go ahead with it.
When I picked it up about a week or two later, I took a quick look at the items before taking them and leaving. At home, upon closer inspection and after wearing my slacks, I noticed that only the back part of the thigh was altered. The excess fabric was not removed and left the back of the thigh area looking unnatural and bulky. The legs was not tapered. The pant's hem was also not done properly as well. Instead of cutting excess fabric off, she left the excess fabric.. leaving roughly 2 and a half inch at the bottom. It was way too wide. I had to undo it myself and cut the excess fabric off.
My husband's slacks were fine for a couple months and just ripped again recently. I looked at the blazer and noticed right away that the work was pretty shoddy. The buttons on the sleeve of the blazer were also stacked upon each other.. seeming as if she didn't take too much time or effort into it. It was not worth 40-45 dollars (Hmong discount)!
I brought my slacks back to her to fix several weeks later as I had gone out of town. Michelle refused to fix my slacks, wanting to charge me more to unhem my slacks and then charge me for doing work she had initially agreed upon (taper). So I said forget it.
The sleeve on my husband's blazer was terribly sewn, so I asked her to reinforce it. The buttons on the sleeve were stacked on top of each other as well. So I asked her to remove them and space them out properly. Initially she claimed that that was how the buttons on the blazer were. I had to point out that she had to shorten the sleeves and it was her who stacked the buttons on top of each other.
End note, I refuse to go here again. Like the previous reviewer mentioned, she does not follow directions. I did take a look at my initial pair of slacks when I asked her to shorten it, the sides are coming loose. Really? read more
